Predator is a true masterpiece :). You gotta give credit to Arnold for making the phone call to Stan Winston for creating the awesome creature design of Predator we know and love :) I miss you Stan Winston :( RIP .
I'm fairly sure that the red suit was just to shoot the 'invisible' version of the original predator and was never intended to be the final look of that predator. The actual predator at this stage was basically just a bug man, they had to shoot the cloaked version in red because they needed the opposite colour to the jungle that they were shooting in, in order to chroma key it out.
the old desgn may look a bit ridiculous, but at least in my opinion, if i found something that look like that in the middle of the jugle that would be a very very diferent story
