What made Predator so damn cool!? His cool mask and hair, his face without the mask, his cloaking and neon green blood, and of course, Kevin Peter Hall and his mannerisms and movements.
also sounds he makes
I didn't know Robert Downey Jr. worked in Special Effects
MrMeeea dumbass 😂
LuckySpoonPlays 23 😂
Analfabetule
bien joué mea
ROBERT DOWNEY JR WAS ABLE TO BUILD THIS IN A CAVE! WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS!
I think it's safe to say that Predator wouldn't be the classic film it is today with this thing.
Agreed
Without you mean??? Depends on how you look at it.
@@ahhgea Nope. If this cancelled suite was used .... Predator Yautja would be nothing but a b/c grade film. An alien will defiantly have superior tech if travelling to another planet !
@xtrmst_01 i've wondered this too. i think it could've been awesome.
@xtrmst_01 Prey was pretty good.
Predator IV: The Most Epic of Splits
Predator nearly ended as B movie
It still is a B-
movie; an epic/brilliant B-movie
I'm agreeing with you, dumbass.
I think this person meant B as in the Bee movie.
There's no Bee's in the movie. it's about aliens.
Wrong, the movie is about a predator, not aliens.
I'm glad they got the Predator design revamped after this. The original one looked like those tokusatsu monsters.
Like Van Damme said 'I look like a superhero'
It would be so good to have more stuff like this and longer.
Check this out: ruclips.net/video/4xCYwDNXlSQ/видео.html - Balázs
So cool you guys linked me what i wanted 4 years later love it, thanks the new video was worth the wait!
Dude in the interview looks like an exaggerated Brad Pitt....
This design belongs in Power Rangers not Predator lol
Imagine a crossover ...
Or Star Trek :D
@@vladimircokorilo8105 Take it back! Michael Westmore would never design something that looks as stupid as this!
Yeah fuck power rangers
come to think of it the original Predator design looks a bit like the crustacean aliens in "District 9" just with a different head
The actual suit (not the red cloak) actually looks pretty cool. Maybe not the right fit for this film, but it'd be a nice design for another film.
It was horrible. Like a monster design from 50s. Really outdated. Stan Winston Predator is to this day way ahead of everybody. Even modern Predator designs still can't match this perfection.
They used the design for another film indeed, but I don't know the title of the movie.
It's now canon in the predator franchise as a specie named Amengi which had enslaved predator planet that was home of an older relative of yautjas known as Hish until one of this badass primitive predator started a revolution against amengis and they won.
The head and the body doesn't match, but I think the head was cool, the body was just a typical monster body.
@@kavehaghayazdi2576 The amengi backstory isn't cannon btw.
Due to timeline inconsistency, the amengi backstory states that the events were only a thousand years old which is WAY too young in terms of years for the yautja.
In predator 2 we can see a t rex looking skull and AvPR we can see triceratops skull, plus a neanderthal skull in the trophy rooms so the yautja as a speices are atleast millions of years old.
2:52 Van Damme's lobster head crashes into tree. Van Damme is stunned. Van Damme says to himself "how embarrassingly clumsy. hope no one saw that."
20 years later 1 million people see it on youtube, and laugh.
THE END
TrOllinM4sTEr Was the tree cloaked?
Actually it was intended. They took this shot and made him cloaked during this scene. I think they wanted to show injured creature running away and bumping into things on its way. You can watch it in Behind the scenes or other archived stuff.
TrOllinM4sTEr lmfao😂😂😂
Franek Kimono i like trollins version better
TrOllinM4sTEr haha... yes indeed we're all laughing. lobster suit looks like monsters from ultraman
2:00, That rear shot of the invisible Predator pulling Hawkins into the Jungle as the Predator while cloaked is still in the actual film isn't it! Must be one of the rare shots from the original design, that was left in the movie i think!
Yes, I believe so. And it looks like at least a couple other of the cloaked shots are of van Damme’s performance.
The final version of that shot in the film looks different and he looks more humanoid there like Stan Winston’s Predator. I think they used some compositing to replace Van Damme’s outline with Kevin Peter Hall.
So Van Damme was actually the one who finally convince producers to change the Predator suit....
No it was Arnold who brought in Stan Winston. Thank God. Pity they didn't at least give JC a small part as a Russian soldier or something.
Van Damme didn't need a small part after he was fired. He went straight to Bloodsport.
@@Diggy22
Bloodsport aka the greatest story ever told about the strongest man who ever lived
G Miyata you need to look into Frank Dux closer man...
@ Lol
Jar Jar: Predator!!
Crab people, crab people
taste like crab
talk like people
The surface will once again belong to the crab people
Lobster Man
A.k.a. Jordan B. Peterson.
Lol south park lol
UGH! Lmao!!!!!!!!!! Them boys could SHOP for sure!
He's a lobster lol
Can't believe I never heard of this before. Hilarious!
lol, i'm kind of glad Van Damme rage quit leading to the remake of the suit -'J
Didn't Stan and Jim Cameron brainstorm and come up with the "new" head (Mandible design) on a flight to Japan?
David Halver yeah, after Van Damme quit they realized they had to redesign the creature
David Halver yes, that's a fact! James Cameron suggested the mandibles for Predator look to Stan Winston on a plane flight from Japan. - Dimitar
Stan Winston School Worked with Jim & Alec on "Battle beyond the Stars" and it was so clear that both of them were extraordinarily gifted and talented.
+Thorus Zwolf Fuck yeah, I just imagined right now what the film would be like if they'd stuck with the 1st attempt.... Not good. Why the hell would they want Van Damme anyway, for a role with no lines (not that he good with lines), no face exposure (not that he has an attractive face), and no martial arts (not that...you see where this is going)? Would have made a lot more sense to cast Van Damme as a marine, and then get some other (cheaper) guy who would be just as good for the Predator.
Z-Zoidberg??!!
Steve Johnson could be Robert Downey's stuntman. Seriously, at the begining i was like"Tony Stark?"
I though the same thing!
The costume sucked, but the concept designs and the miniatures looked pretty cool. Sure it looks like a poor man's "Alien" with glowing eyes, but I could TOTALLY see this creature in a low budget Canon-produced B-movie starring some of the D-list action stars of the 80's and early 90's.
The red suit was for the special effects shows of the creature using it cloaking device. which makes up a substantial part of the film. it wasn't how the alien would actually look when visible.
David Knowles
I know that. Hence why I said the "concept art and miniatures" where you could see the creature's actual colors.
Sorry misread your comment. The red costume would ' nt have looked out of place on the original Star Trek
Or Sesame Street, lol.
tylerdurden3891 If only Jim Henson designed the Predator.
I never get tired of the Predator backstory. :o)
Lol JCVD In a rubber chicken suit with a mantis head. He was still new at that time and already knew this was a bad Idea.
this alien was so old news for its era.It belongs to a star trek episode.
Okay, all you CGI experts … your challenge is to take key scenes from Predator and replace the Predator with the original design, then release it on RUclips as Hunter.
***** Did you ever manage to do this?
Awesome!
Cool
is it finished?
Dude, it's been 2 years. You *have* to do it.
Jean Claude Van Damme's life plays out like a Greek tragedy. The actor whom no one takes seriously, happens upon a legitimate career for a while only to piss it away in cocaine binges, then loses his family and does straight to DVD films that are all garbage. Then, later in life, manages to string together some decent films only no one takes him seriously enough anymore.
I wonder if he was so athletic and a martial artist, why do coke? And why it didn't had a huge effect on his body?
Fame, and because coke affects the mind, not the body.
well nobody knows who the fuck you are that's for god damn sure
Dennis P. just the way I like it.
Johnny Blaze It's the only choice you have.
if they went by that look the predator wouldn't be as iconic as he is today
because Van Damme has a great heart he wont fight best friend and doesn’t like being negative role on a movie 🎥.
The guy laughing made my day🤣🤣🤣🤣.
Woah. I cannot believe I am seeing this. Woah.
Wow, the first mark of the Predator suit looks funny as hell....
omg JCVD in an Alien costume fighting Arnold, that would've been a fucking cool movie!!!
Hontoni Arigato Doing the splits and roundhouse kicks? Lol
@@southlondon86 ctfuuu
Thank you Van Damme, you saved predator from being this goofy looking thing.
So, now we know that Iron Man was shooting the Predator with JKVD as main actor. Awesome!😋
As silly as this thing is, I kinda want to see it come back as another species. With modern techniques it would probably work, maybe as a hero species fighting the Predators since it doesn't really look like a threatening monster.
I think they did reuse it in part in the movie “Predators” as one of the other species being hunted on the game reserve planet.
Apparently it’s now the “Amengi” species in the Predator universe
Steve Johnson looks like a mix of Robert Downey Jr and Patton Oswalt.
I actually like the design. Maybe it should've had an appearance in one of the sequels as another species or something.
They did use it for the NECA Alpha Predator figure where the Alpha Predator is actually wearing it's head as a mask and wearing it's body parts as armour. They gave the species name for the original design "Amengi"
The body was okay, but the head couldn't have been more generic. It's just a giant bug head.
@@robonaught This original version also appeared as homage in 2010 Predators movie.
That's a neat idea
@@canalreplay wasn't it that thing that ran after the bait?
The one in the left looks like Tony Stark
LMAO
Thats we need make more movies like this with practical FX, the stories behind this are priceless and NOT a cold conversation which setup on V-ray is good
"Just off a boat from Brussels"! Makes it sound like he landed shortly after The Mayflower haha. To be fair we had planes back in the 80s ;)
The expression is still "fresh off the boat", though...not "fresh off the plane." That's just...how euphemisms work
we all love seeing and hearing backstage insight about the creative process of our favourate movies of all time :)
keep up the great work
OMG! That other suit needs to be released as a full movie!! This is GOLD! Predator: The lobster returns!
The predator was literally the best sci-fi creature of the eighties The predator came across as being more powerful than a bear but yet smarter than humans.
Yet is outsmarted by humans in every movie
@@kluneberg8952 there's only one predator movie
There's three.
I love this behind the monster mask stuff!!!
Holy shit, that footage of the red early Predator is HILARIOUS... THANK GOD they changed it
i actually like that insect design. i would have not work in terms of offering arnold a believeable enemy but is still cool. it was used many years later in predators.
Laugh all you want, but JCVD is a blessing to this world.
So cool and interesting. I knew the cloaked predator looked different because of the design change but this is still so fascinating to me.
Thank God for Kevin Peter Hall and the new design for the alien suit.
1:00 Man, does that original head remind me of the aliens from _District 9._
wow they should used van damme as a soldier a french mercenarie coulda been a nice addition..
a belgian one then :)
A missed opportunity

lol tony stark haha
The line would've been "GET THE LOBSTA !"
How does this comment not have more thumbs up.
That design looks so funny!
The film looks AWFUL! Then legend Stan Winston steps in and comes up with a monster design in just 24 hrs and the PREDATOR alien is still a classic today. Another PREDATOR movie is being released for 2018. RIP STAN WINSTON you're an absolute LEGEND!
I swear, this guy has made amazing practical effects for so many great movies.. Predator, Aliens, Terminator, Ironman, Jurassic Park. This guy is as legendary as the guy who did the SFX for The thing movie.
I know right! Without Stan this movie would not be a good classic as it is today, Stan Winston is a hero without cape, RIP legend.
I really love predator =), best thing ever made
You deserve more likes for this comment!.
Are you feeling it now Mr. Crabs?
This original design was eventually made it's own species called "Amengi". The NECA Alpha Predator figure wears the head of one as a mask.
This is hilarious! 😂😂
This costume looks like some movie prop from the 60's when they shot the original Star Track series with Shatner lol. And Van Damme looks so miserable on that photo :-)), honestly I don't blame him.
SolAlbus lmao!! you mean the slow lethargic gorn shatner fought? yeah i see it!!
The insect design was pretty cool actually.
the actual monster design was really not bad, pretty cool looking... I think everybody is thrown off by that red costume, not knowing it's just a stunt suit, like van damme thought too
daleva187goligo So cgi was added to the actual red suit?
@@24ozz no cgi it would be practical
Ahhaah...i can magine van dam so angry in lobster suit😂
Thank God this costume and Jean Clead were thrown out of the production.
Three cheers for coming sense prevailing!
that was one of the funniest videos I've ever seen in my life. also, Predator has always been one of my favorite movies.. thank God it didn't end up that way.
They should now have this version of predator and have it battle the other predator just make it taller and a tiny bit better looking
Very interesting footage and story!
Original Predator movie (and story) > EVERY movie with the word Predator since then.
Great sci-fi!
that red thing that was supposed to be the Predator is just golden, I had a laughter choke.
Yes, and you're clearly dumber than Van Damme or you just didn't listen. That red suit was *never* meant to be seen in the movie. It was just used for the cloaked shots - some of which actually remained in the movie. Watch the scene of the cloaked predator crossing the tree log Dutch has set a trap on with a burning fire. It's clearly the old predator suit used for that shot. The real original Predator suit was never tested because they couldn't get it to work.
Thank god that wasn't the predator we got at the end
Love how the original design eventually turned into the amengi that had enslaved yautja
I thought I saw RDJ there for a second! Ahaha
Jean Claude Got Damned
It looked like a goofy monster from Power Rangers lol. Cool seeing this old footage but I'm so glad they changed the suit.
I heard, first, Van Damme couldnt handle the heat inside the costume and then he choose to quit; then some people said he didnt like to be invisible and his face wouldnt appear and then he started to pretend it was the heat and passed out a lot of times. Anyway, Kevin Peter Hall could do the job later a lot better
And meanwhile, Jean-Claude has said in interviews that he really didn't feel safe in the digitigrade leg rigs. Funny how the 'new design' disposed of them.
JKC40 Uh, he's not wearing them in the footage shown above.
It would be cool to see Van Damme play as an aging Predator.
this has given me numerous ideas for a project i have been working on
Definitely Kevin Peter Hall is not the one that is using the invisible but JCVD.
Muppet Predator! i feel a whole new sub-franchise coming on.
Steve Johnson Is So Handsome, He Look Like Tony Stark and Benicio Del Toro:)So Glad They Took A Different Route On The Predator. Great Story.
so true
Phillip Bathory 😂😂
Timber ShaRay he looks like a hipster douche, especially waving his vape pen around.
why do you capitalize every word?
Looks like Robert Downey Jr
That design is so cool
And yet he still looks more dignified in this lobster suit than he did in the Street Fighter movie
It was a shame that role didn't go to Dolph Lundgren. He would have been a perfect Guile.
He was coked up that entire movie
My first thought: This is Tony/Robert sitting talking about the first original Predator.
This is hilarious! 😄
Predator is the most well design villian ever. Equipped like Batman & scary as hell.
that look cool man i like it
Can you ask Steve if he knows alpine I love it lol
Robert Downey Jr explains to us how Zoidberg could've been the popular one.
Levi Skardsen dude you said Zoidberg
I didn't know *Tony Stark* made *Predator*.
-BETMARK-
is that your signature lol??? dis is youtube mayne
Very interesting
Just think of it like this the final product was so good it carries itself even to day
Next: I want Alien vs Predator vs this "Kungfu Reptile" Hunter.
That was hysterical..
Cool info... back in tha day Predator was tha shit!
So maybe because of Van Damme's lack of professionalism, we actually got a revamped good Predator.
I wouldn't call it lack of professionalism as much as i would call keeping quiet while someone ordered me to jump around like a fool in a lobster costume a total lack of *balls!* Movie actors often challenge directors, you know, they're not plumbers!
Van damme at least played a part for which he was not credited at all.....All the stunt scenes of camouflaged predator jumping off trees, dragging the hawkins dead body circling around dillion and ripping him apart were all the scenes which jean claude van damme pulled off. Kevin peterson was big but he was not that agile and quick for which the actual footage of jean claude van damme was added in the final picture....also he was a body double of arnold..
He was being hired to do something he doesn't want to do..
yeah he didnt liked the thing in the beginning... So whats the big deal even the people making the film didnt liked that and showed dissatisfaction....that was the whole idea behind revamping the whole predator creature costume and diversifying it... Which created the better final product.
"Lack of professionalism?" If I was in Van Damme's shoes, stuffed inside a bright-red lobster suit in the middle of the steaming jungle looking like a complete putz, I would have straight up MURDERED John McTiernan. Van Damme was amazingly civil when you take everything into account.
Marvel alt universe where Tony Stark makes his bones designing movie monsters
