My brother has worked in the restaurant and fast food business for ages and he will not eat at fast food places or restaurants….period. The only fast food he eats is if he prepared it.
What I have learned. Before even parking at a restaurant, drive around back and observe around the back door. Door open? Screens? Deliveries of food outside? Piles of trash? Dirty house keeping? Keep driving!

Haven't eaten at any of these restaurants in over 10 years. After I saw the guy drop chicken on the floor, pick it up and put it back in the fryer, then try to lie when I complained about him doing that. It wasn't my order but I cancelled mine.

Our local Mexican restaurant was shut down for serving meat that has been left unrefrigerated for days.. the health authorities found rat droppings on in the kitchen utensils etc… and one of my mom’s favourite Thai restaurant was fined for breaching food safety guidelines.. we stopped eating out now.. home cooked meals are safer..!!

Dude. Not only is running water on what probably was frozen pork from a garden hose is potentially unsanitary considering what may be in the water, but also, the water from an irrigation system leading to the hose would be over 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The pork would already be in the temperature danger zone by the time it's thawed out. Not to mention adding the outdoor temperature in the equation. Not meat should ever be thawed in warm water and be over 40 degrees before cooking. That's when bacteria grows. That's completely irresponsible and extremely dangerous to be serving people food like that. Everyone who works in the culinary industry knows that! I did some basic culinary education and worked in a BBQ restaurant for seven years and this is probably the worst thing I've ever heard of or seen.

My dad and I started chatting with him and he told us he used to live in Westminster, & would do frequent plumbing jobs at Asian restaurants. He pretty much told us to stay away from them. He would find trays of raw meat sitting in backed up water on the floor, etc.

I stay away from them places as well as the convenience stores pretty much any business ran by foreigners. Not only do they mistreat and don't like our people but they have altars sat up in their businesses to keep the people coming back/draining the money out of the community. Most people look right over the figurines and mistake them for cultural decorations. If they don't have thier altar out front it's in the back.

I've sadly worked for two Chinese owned restaurants and the owners never ate the food out of the kitchen. They always made their own or brought it from home. They had roaches and mice, prepped food on the floor, left pools of water standing, soaked rags in a smelly bleach bucket instead of back to the cleaning services, no hand washing, cross contamination, no hats/hair nets, food and utensils dropped on the floor and being served or used, and that's just surface issues. Many Chinese restaurants only do minimum like prep meats and veggies but all the sauces and specialty items are purchased and heated up under the claim of homemade. That's why so many Chinese restaurants seem to taste the same at least in the US. The Chinese way is minimal effort for maximum profit even if it risks killing customers.

I used to service commercial kitchen fire suppression systems. I've been in thousands of restaurants. The ONLY clean kitchens are in hospitals, daycares, and nursing homes.
According to a family friend who owns a Chinese restaurant in the U.S., DO NOT every order any of those so called "Sweet and Sour" and/or deep fried meat dishes. He claims that those dishes tend to be made from the poorest and cheapest quality meats they can find. Instead, order the steamed and healthy dishes (if there is such option on the menu) as those tend to use the freshest and better quality meats.
Unfortunately that's a main dish that people go for. Most people going to Chinese restaurants aren't going for a steamed dish, even more so if you're getting takeout.
Stuff like this is common in many parts of Central America, South America, Africa and parts of Asia besides China, yet many Americans don't stereotype non-Chinese cuisine but choose to hate Chinese in general. They tend to realize that just because one McDonald's in New York City had to shutter due to unsanitary conditions doesn't mean all McDonald's restaurants are bad; but blame every single Chinese restaurants are too filthy to eat at just because of this one Chinese restaurant that messed up. i thaw my frozen meat by submerge it in hot water inside basin, cver the basin with something (towel, another basin, plastic wrap) and its gonna be ready in 20-30 mins. i heard that in mainland china its common for ppl to clean meat outside on running water, which is unsanitary for restaurant level
All the workers are handling the food properly and washing their hands when the inspectors are there and as soon as the inspector leaves, everything goes back to usual. No washing hands, sneezing on your food, putting the food back on your plate after dropping it on the floor etc…There’s no such thing as a clean restaurant, only acceptable at best. I One way to filter is to walk down the back alley of the restaurant to see how clean it is and usually in the summer they have the rear door open. You can take a peep inside. I walked down the rear alley of a bakery once and saw all the baked goods that just came out of the oven on a trays all on a trolley at the rear of the bakery in a filthy room with the rear door of the restaurant open and flies everywhere. In the front of the bakery, people were all lined up to buy those goods without having any idea what’s happening at the back of the bakery. If you’re only in the food business to make money, then you should not be in this business. There are other ways to make money. Food business, you are risking people’s health if protocols are not followed. On top of the money, it should be a passion to serve good and clean food to people.
I was there one time because someone recommended it and they are popular because they stay open late for the casino and club customers for a late bite but this is totally disgusting. I am so glad that I didn't get to eat anything because the chaos between a customer and the manager got racial and loud, so we left.
they must have hired the cooks that just off the boat or plane that arrived from China, those kinds of food handling practices do happen in China which they thought could do in America and not get caught. Was at the Korean market/restaurant Zion cleaning up oil from the hood vents a little past midnight working for an kitchen hood/vent cleaning company. Was surprised to see many pots filled with soup/food to the top at most if not all the restaurants in Zion with no lids on. This would be like a rats buffet paradise. Chef here. This is completely normal way to thaw pork. We do this in Mexican restaurants too. Maybe not outside with a hose, but same. Not a big deal, especially if you're going to cook it in a wok. Those things burn up to 700+ degrees. Roaches and vermin on the other hand is a big NO NO. Need to clean that place up to pass inspection. Key to a good Chinese restaurant is to see who is eating there. If you're surrounded by white, walk away. If you're surrounded by yellow, stay and mellow.
Go check the quarterdeck in ft.lauderdale up by the beach. I had to repeatedly battle a roach from crawling onto my plate to get my lunch while sitting in a booth. That's when I just got up and left

That's true about them not eating their own food except the rice. I used to eat at a Chinese restaurant years ago. I was talking the the owner/waitress and she was telling me she was getting ready fora big Chinese dinner party in the large meeting room next door. She was rushing in and out of the the large room, and when I went to the buffet counter I looked inside the large meeting room that she was preparing. The food in there was beautifully prepared, and laid out on a huge table. It was like in a magazine of gourmet food. The food looked way better than what was on the buffet (in retrospect the buffet food looked like slop in comparison.) So needless to say I stopped going to the restaurant after realizing I was paying good money for their slop. Reality is a hard pill to take sometimes.
I swear i have almost completely stopped eating out. Completely unclean, expensive ah AND doesn't even taste the same. After doing uber eats for a lil bit, i swear i have seen the dirtiest crap ever and the smelliest. I can count with 2 fingers which restaurants are the cleanest. No it won't. That meat is not being kept at a safe temp, like 45 degrees. It's probably outdoors for several hours. The bacteria and dirt from the hose adds to the danger. Plus the flies. Heat doesn't kill everything.
I keep hearing about this same story over and over but yet when I lived in Florida and reported the same situation even took photos of what I was witnessing on a daily basis and sent it to the State of Florida and nobody ever showed up and the guy is still in business this was the Taffy shop on Clearwater Beach he thaws his meat out on his air conditioning condenser outside. Lol, if you think this is bad, go to an indian restaurant or indian run franchise and watch how they prep their food(i've lost count to how many times ive gotten food poisoning). I've never gotten sick from any other places except places owned by indians. That being said, just because one restaurant does this, don't group them all up together. I've worked in a few successful asian restaurants and none of them do this; a good indicator is if the manager of the place knows decent/good english chances are its clean compared to a place that knows very little to no english.

I've sadly worked for two Chinese owned restaurants and the owners never ate the food out of the kitchen. They always made their own or brought it from home. They had roaches and mice, prepped food on the floor, left pools of water standing, soaked rags in a smelly bleach bucket instead of back to the cleaning services, no hand washing, cross contamination, no hats/hair nets, food and utensils dropped on the floor and being served or used, and that's just surface issues.
Many Chinese restaurants only do minimum like prep meats and veggies but all the sauces and specialty items are purchased and heated up under the claim of homemade. That's why so many Chinese restaurants seem to taste the same at least in the US. The Chinese way is minimal effort for maximum profit even if it risks killing customers.
The risks associated with eating out nowadays has become too great. Trusting restaurants to do the right things apparently not working.
It's no different than in the past. All restaurants do these kinds of things, not just Chinese.

I used to service commercial kitchen fire suppression systems. I've been in thousands of restaurants. The ONLY clean kitchens are in hospitals, daycares, and nursing homes.

According to a family friend who owns a Chinese restaurant in the U.S., DO NOT every order any of those so called "Sweet and Sour" and/or deep fried meat dishes. He claims that those dishes tend to be made from the poorest and cheapest quality meats they can find. Instead, order the steamed and healthy dishes (if there is such option on the menu) as those tend to use the freshest and better quality meats.
Unfortunately that's a main dish that people go for. Most people going to Chinese restaurants aren't going for a steamed dish, even more so if you're getting takeout.

Stuff like this is common in many parts of Central America, South America, Africa and parts of Asia besides China, yet many Americans don't stereotype non-Chinese cuisine but choose to hate Chinese in general. They tend to realize that just because one McDonald's in New York City had to shutter due to unsanitary conditions doesn't mean all McDonald's restaurants are bad; but blame every single Chinese restaurants are too filthy to eat at just because of this one Chinese restaurant that messed up. To put it simply: "a Chipotle restaurant re-opened after meeting sanitary requirements" == "that place is fixed now. Let's eat there. Not all of them are bad." but "a Chinese cuisine restaurant re-opens after meeting sanitary requirements" == "I ain't walkin' in there and eat no filthy food again. Y'all gotta be trippin'!" Now, did I speak the absolute reality of how typical people in the USA and all other westerners think?

What do you think that says about their mindset? My uncle used to own a bakery 3 doors away from a Chinese restaurant. Whenever I used the back entrance and have to walk pass their back area, I had to hold my breath or I would puke.

i thaw my frozen meat by submerge it in hot water inside basin, cver the basin with something (towel, another basin, plastic wrap) and its gonna be ready in 20-30 mins. i heard that in mainland china its common for ppl to clean meat outside on running water, which is unsanitary for restaurant level
All the workers are handling the food properly and washing their hands when the inspectors are there and as soon as the inspector leaves, everything goes back to usual. No washing hands, sneezing on your food, putting the food back on your plate after dropping it on the floor etc…There’s no such thing as a clean restaurant, only acceptable at best. I One way to filter is to walk down the back alley of the restaurant to see how clean it is and usually in the summer they have the rear door open. You can take a peep inside. I walked down the rear alley of a bakery once and saw all the baked goods that just came out of the oven on a trays all on a trolley at the rear of the bakery in a filthy room with the rear door of the restaurant open and flies everywhere. In the front of the bakery, people were all lined up to buy those goods without having any idea what’s happening at the back of the bakery. If you’re only in the food business to make money, then you should not be in this business. There are other ways to make money. Food business, you are risking people’s health if protocols are not followed. On top of the money, it should be a passion to serve good and clean food to people.

I was there one time because someone recommended it and they are popular because they stay open late for the casino and club customers for a late bite but this is totally disgusting. I am so glad that I didn't get to eat anything because the chaos between a customer and the manager got racial and loud, so we left.
they must have hired the cooks that just off the boat or plane that arrived from China, those kinds of food handling practices do happen in China which they thought could do in America and not get caught.
In China how they deal with raw foods and sell it, I mean look at how they do butchering and handling meat products in china right on the streets and they still sell the meat or sea food in unsanitizing areas of their shops.

Was at the Korean market/restaurant Zion cleaning up oil from the hood vents a little past midnight working for an kitchen hood/vent cleaning company. Was surprised to see many pots filled with soup/food to the top at most if not all the restaurants in Zion with no lids on. This would be like a rats buffet paradise. Been avoiding eating out at Korean restaurants since then

Chef here. This is completely normal way to thaw pork. We do this in Mexican restaurants too. Maybe not outside with a hose, but same. Not a big deal, especially if you're going to cook it in a wok. Those things burn up to 700+ degrees.
Roaches and vermin on the other hand is a big NO NO. Need to clean that place up to pass inspection.
Key to a good Chinese restaurant is to see who is eating there. If you're surrounded by white, walk away. If you're surrounded by yellow, stay and mellow.

That's true about them not eating their own food except the rice. I used to eat at a Chinese restaurant years ago. I was talking the the owner/waitress and she was telling me she was getting ready fora big Chinese dinner party in the large meeting room next door. She was rushing in and out of the the large room, and when I went to the buffet counter I looked inside the large meeting room that she was preparing. The food in there was beautifully prepared, and laid out on a huge table. It was like in a magazine of gourmet food. The food looked way better than what was on the buffet (in retrospect the buffet food looked like slop in comparison.) So needless to say I stopped going to the restaurant after realizing I was paying good money for their slop. Reality is a hard pill to take sometimes.
They were thawing the meat outdoors because they had just captured It outdoors.

I swear i have almost completely stopped eating out. Completely unclean, expensive ah AND doesn't even taste the same. After doing uber eats for a lil bit, i swear i have seen the dirtiest crap ever and the smelliest. I can count with 2 fingers which restaurants are the cleanest. It's really disappointing and disgusting and so damn expensive.

No it won't. That meat is not being kept at a safe temp, like 45 degrees. It's probably outdoors for several hours. The bacteria and dirt from the hose adds to the danger. Plus the flies. Heat doesn't kill everything.

I keep hearing about this same story over and over but yet when I lived in Florida and reported the same situation even took photos of what I was witnessing on a daily basis and sent it to the State of Florida and nobody ever showed up and the guy is still in business this was the Taffy shop on Clearwater Beach he thaws his meat out on his air conditioning condenser outside. They serve hot dogs in Polish sausage and stuff

Lol, if you think this is bad, go to an indian restaurant or indian run franchise and watch how they prep their food(i've lost count to how many times ive gotten food poisoning). I've never gotten sick from any other places except places owned by indians. That being said, just because one restaurant does this, don't group them all up together. I've worked in a few successful asian restaurants and none of them do this; a good indicator is if the manager of the place knows decent/good english chances are its clean compared to a place that knows very little to no english.
