After just a few weeks with my new to me cheap Tesla Model S, it finally broke. It seemed like it would be a straight forward fix, but because everything on this car is electronic and driven by computers, it added a few days time to what should've taken a few hours! Plus I fix my Mom's Italian SUV and install a fresh set of @bilsteinUS PSS9 Coilovers on our Turbo Porsche Cayman Project!

no Tesla tires???
Door trim clips should be replaced every time you remove the panel per Tesla. Also, note the SRS pressure sensor in the middle of the door. In order for it to work properly in an impact, all of the open holes need the round stickers replaced every time you remove them.
@@blodg1 Rubbish, I've had my drivers side door trim off at least 5-6 times and the clips hold fine
Who puts $80 tires on a BMW.... Screw your "Priority tire" and screw you... Bet those tires wear out VERY fast...
I used your code for some tires for my Gladiator. Out the door it cost $509, which was $100 cheaper than the set I got a couple years ago.
You had mentioned in the last video, they slim jammed into the car at the auction house, they probably broke that regulator at the auction house by pushing down on the window assembly to reach in with a pocky stick to open the door,
If putting a doorman window regulator is your biggest problem on a Tesla, that’s a deal.
Hmmm very interesting idea. The definitely slim jimmed it. When I talked to Rich he said that a few years ago people were replacing regulators with used ones as well before these parts were available.
@@Samcrac best thing about an older Tesla is available aftermarket and used parts. So many haters though - it's wild! I'd venture to bet 95% has never actually owned a Tesla. That's fine with me as the used market stays soft.

Sam, you're in my top 5 automotive RUclipsr's. It's because your car repairs are straight forward, honest, and genuine. Every repair may not be "by the book," but they work and you're transparent if it's a cheap fix or if you let the stealership take you for a ride with no lube.
Never seen your mom , but I sure do miss your stepmom
IKR, is she okay, I'll volunteer to stop over and check on her, cheer her up a bit.

Thirsty. And lame.
We need more stepmom fixing
Stepmom was an xnxx goat, real ones remember
Sam, just 10 years ago I was terrified of buying an old Volvo thinking that it’ll bankrupt me. After your encouraging videos I got into Audi’s and with a proper vw audi scanner they’re very easy to own and work on. Few years later, I just picked up a 958 cayenne turbo that I’m doing a full bottom end rebuild on. Thanks for your videos!
i bought an audi recently and the 8 speed cvt in it is starting to feel laggy when pulling from a stop, how do you recommend i continue?
@@crazy38438 speed and CVT are oxymorons. CVT does not have gears, hence the name; continuously variable transmission. In either case, start by checking the obvious, check for leaks, make sure the level is good, while checking the level, see how dark the fluid is, give it a sniff too
man if the v10 is one of those E60 M5 it would be awesome
It's more likely to be a 2006 S6
@urosb82 i didn't know Audis had a v10 on those... they make more sense for the price.
No E5 going for $1900. It has to be an Audi.
@coreymoyers look he said you would not believe... and thats the v10 that sounds the most unbelieveable to me. But yes those VW make way more sense
Probably an AUDI S6!!
Nice of you to help your Mom Sam, but I was really hoping you could help your Step Mom again. She really ought to have a regular spot on this channel, imo.
You know sam, that’s one of the things i like about your channel….. while other channels loose interest and basically disappear be it for vacation, or whatever you don’t do that… you always have fresh content you don’t try and show old stuff and i appreciate that!⚡️👍🏿😀
Bro, your videos are gold.
M5 V10 definitely
That is my guess as well
My thoughts exactly
but can only afford gt radial tires ...
Or Audi S8 V10
I just don’t think he could get an M5 that cheap. Even with the issues which are legendary. I vote for Audi.
Either an Audi S6 or S8. One of my favorite Audis
At 5:32 Sam looks like he's been smoking his surname
It's because for some reason he does videos with bears stubble. Smart guy, I don't know why he wants to look dirty.
as he's working on this thinking of the days when door handels were mechanical and virtually never broke. then saw the guy crawling through the window and started shaking my head
The fact that the interior door handles don't work without 12v is actually a bit concerning.
@@zingbat4Its like the Cadillac XLR back in the day, they use a primary electronic opener, but there is a mechanical override for when you don't have power to the doors
VW/Audi handles from the 80s broke a lot
@@zingbat4All teslas have backups for the door handles. If outside the car and the battery is dead, there are jump points where you can start the low voltage system. In this generation of the Model S, “If Model S has no electrical power, front doors open as usual using the interior door handles.”
The door wasn’t entirely assembled before it was all fixed, so that’s why any handles may not have worked.
@@zhorzhas always exceptions. that's why I said "virtally", which means Almost entirely
Tip: If your window stop moving and is down, press the button to raise it while closing the door a little harder than normal. This may fix your problem.
Hook at the end… I like it.
Keep it, the Tesla fix common easy issues series will pay well.
4:55 man... thats just the silly straw i got with my cup from 2010! who you foolin!
Mighty car mods and Samcrac both modding fuel pumps in two days. I’m here for it.
Regulators!, Mount Up!
lol!
You are going to get used to taking those inner door panels off, when you are fixing door handles. My advise, keep an extra wiring set (flat type) as well as a couple of spare gears with you (along with the proper wrenches to fix it) in the car at all times. I have the exact same model (I recognized the Tampa SC) and had the two front doors fail on the SAME DAY! It will happen. The rear doors are harder, but there are a few tricks to make it easier (like fooling the door to keep the window higher (when the door closes), so you can access the bolt). May also want to keep an extra air suspension shock on hand too.
I bet its a VW Phaeton. That's the only thing I can think of that would be less than $2K and still not worth the price.
Weren't phaetons v12?
@@y0usef Some Phaetons were W12's like their cousins the Audi A8L W12 sedans. Audi S8 (D3 gen) is a V10 sedan so that might be the car he got.
@@y0usef They were a W12 (essentially two VR6 together), but they did make a V10 TDi although not sure Sam would go for a Diesel?
I think he had a phaeton a while ago, so I can't be that
Well. Some could say the same for a few bmw.
A broken window regulator on a door that's been jimmied open and a consequential blown fuse? That's not bad.
Was about to go to bed; guess my bed can wait 🎉
That’s exactly how I feel when I begin watching this guy’s videos, everything else can wait.
The Stelvio and the Giulia are both beautiful cars, the Quadrifoglio 🍀 ones are awesome fun cars with the flat plane crank 510HP Ferrari V6 ❤
Cheap V10 sedan? Could be a BMW E60 M5, Audi S6 V10 or Audi S8 V10. Fun times! 😁

Love your videos, Sam! Love the way you seamlessly integrate your sponsor's messages. Usually I fast-forward through the in-video commercials, but the way you do it is extra-clever. Kudos! Nice job on the Cayman. But good luck getting that Tesla working right. I guess we'll see more of that one, eh?

@@themidnightwillno he meant Stepmom, (watch some of his old videos)
actually thats a very straight forward fix for the window issue... apart from having to climb through your window😂 but if you did it again, its just a bust fuse, and you'd have some, and leave your door open.
I'm guessing an Audi S6 or S8? That would be unbelievably cheap for a Lambo derived V10

10:53 dorman? hope you remembered how you did this fix, you'll be doing it again in a couple of months.
Can't be any worse than parts from tesla.
I thought the same thing , but 5 years on my window regulator from Dorman still going like new.
@@Emilthehun proof a broken clock can be right twice a day.
Every dorman product I ever bought failed prematurely. First it was VCT solenoids for my Ford 5.4L 3V. Then it was a tensioner pulley (bearings didn't last a year) then I want to say alternator but not 100% it was a dorman.
@@muskokamike127 yes exactly. But then again I wouldn't buy cheap components that actually matter. A window is not essential. I've learned my lesson with a cheap hub bearing that last only a year and left me with 3 wheels only 😂
Those old scizzer lift window regulators sure worked great and had much less problems. As far as the V10, maybe an Audi S6?
It’s a Tesla. It’s broken when it’s comes from the factory.
As an amateur mechanic and tinkerer I have found the Model S to be pretty DIY friendly with accessible fasteners and it generally seems to have been designed by engineers who don't hate mechanics as opposed to some German and American cars that I have experience with.
I don't even own a tesla but there is a manual door release
In this generation of Model S, the interior handles work normally with or without power. You may just have to pull it a bit harder for the cable to engage lol
I used to hate sam crac but now i look forward to his videos. You grew on me.
Interesting perspective, got me thinking!

Also Sam: Window goes down - The Windows goes up
Jajajajaja you are the best Sam Love your videos 😂
I think that block of switches on the drivers door for the windows is a Chrysler part....
Started off as Mercedes and then Chrysler started using them when Mercedes’ owned them.
Best thing about this guy is.... not his cars. They are rubbish. It's his huge plot of land that I really love. It's a massive farm with plenty of trees and chickens, cows, sheep... He needs a few giraffes, elephants and horses.
It's a different type of pleasure to be able to race your Porsche on the grass and knowing all that grass is yours and no one is going to shout at you for driving on them! 😆😆😆

i can only guess its an Audi S6/S8. theyre notorious for being unreliable, yet somehow, theyre still rediculously cool.
The headline could have been shortened to 'My Tesla Broke' - seems very common.
FYI to save climbing in the window next time, the front door will open if you pull the interior handle all the way, this uses the manual cable release which will work when there is no power or a fault with the actuator

tesla engineering never fails to disappoint
A simple blown fuse and a window regulator failure on a 10+ year old, 100,000+ mile car sounds good to me. You say it as if it’s a massive problem.
Truth be told, my ICE cars never had a problem… except for when it spontaneously caught on fire that one time. Wait…
@@blewis42002 I can understand if you have no design or mechanical engineering experience that it must be difficult for you to recognise poor design decisions and poor build quality. It's ok. My question is how does Sam not be covered in sweat working on these cars this time of year. It's been ridiculous hot and humid.
So a fuse blows and you cannot open your door wow😮
There's an emergency door release, he just didn't use it.
@fishsticklunch fair youtube drama then cheers
@@fishsticklunchI think it's funny people think it's a Tesla only thing. The Cadillac XLR had an electronic door release with a mechanical override too, I even remember a story of an old guy dying in his driveway in one because he tragically couldn't find the door release
@@fishsticklunch Yeah, just what you need in an actual emergency, the need to remember the correct procedure to open a door! 😀
@@steviejc666 Not really, I mean if it's an actual emergency and you can't open the door - you then have to know and/or remember how to open the door if the door won't open. It's excessively complex design, and therefore objectively sh*t.
Your next car you should buy is a vintage Datsun 510 68 to 72 2 door. You'll have years worth of things to fix and refix.

He replaced the fuel pump on the Alfa and the turbo on the Porche.
You say that as if it had major issues. It was a window regulator and a fuse. For a 10+ year old car with 100k+ miles that was sitting at an auto auction for how long, honestly I would love to take this.
11:48 The pizza car still lives lol
Been using priority for about a year now. Running their tires on 3 of the 7 cars. Great tires at a better price.

Ivan from Pine Hollow Diagnostics “Dorman window regulator, place your bets now” 🤣
Using a Dorman part is a great way to learn the lesson about by once cry once 😂
I subbed because you seem like a reasonable person. I drive a 5L F150 which I love but I also wouldn't mind a used EV like a Tesla. Trying to park a large truck in the city is not fun and I'd rather save it for long hauls. Thanks for documenting this adventure.
5:38 *Me after I go to do any type of work on my car, and forget I'm in Florida
Any of those Doors that Lower the Windows upon every Door Opening and Closing, are going to have Window Motor Issues... That is why they are designed that way.. Same for Door Seals on those Windows.. Windows being loose or rattling, are going to also be an issue..
My dad has a 2017 Tesla model S he has had to have his window regulator changed out several times because as you are well aware Tesla enjoys using plastic instead of metal like other car manufacturers
@Samcrac 10:50 you really need a cute little rooster as side kick again, there are so many freakin ants near you.
The rooster will clean that up nicely for you!
That Tesla is a great buy for a mechanic like yourself, but not for someone who needs to hire a mechanic.

Sam, that was probably the most enjoyable video that I have seen from you! Thanks for sharing your adventures!
I've seen a few Tesla that are slammed and stanced so old Teslas have officially moved into the clapped out Civic column.
Ruh Roh I think Sam is catching the Tesla bug. Good job catching the suspension issue. That's super common in these and I think they should have revised the design.
As a stelvio owner(2020 ti sport) the low battery issue becomes a problem when it starts throwing finkicky electrical codes for random stuff. The fuel pump is definatley a first year issue for them
As you were crawling through the driver's side window, I think I actually caught a glimpse of the SamCrack!
My God that was scary
Samcrac standing over you looking down at you as sweat drips from his forehead.
Sam, all the shirts you wear in this video are a dark color. Get some light/white colored shirts, should help working in that hot Florida sun.
Man: I'm tired just watching him work on this maze. Did anyone tell him the battery pack replacement cost will total the car?🤣
Rich has pointed out that cells can be replaced and balanced most of the time
Comparing going from a regular car to a Tesla, to going from a blackberry to an iPhone is a perfect analogy. It’s night and day, and everything else seems old in comparison.
I love the strategie of shitting on your brother to segue to a sponsorship lol. Classy
Sam, I suggest you don't mess with car fuel systems or brakes. Just ship the incorrect parts back.
Open the fuel cap makes less difficult to remove or put back the fuel pump.
If you pull the inside front handle further back, door would open - that’s an emergency opening for the front doors
I just greased up my 2001 4Runner window regulators. Still running perfect with fresh grease.
You fixed 3 cars in one video, amazing!!!🤣🤣🤣
Aftermarket part support is probably the biggest reason I wouldn't fool with a Tesla. If you ever get in a fender bender with one, it could easily sit in a body shop for a full year waiting on all the parts to repair it.
climbing through the open window instead of opening it with the inside handle is... a choice.
The last thing you ever want to do is have your Italian moms car that you worked on catch on fire... you will never be forgiven.
You'd think someone would have figured out how to make reliable door handles that work every time by now.
I'm hoping for the day when Sam gets a good purchase and all he needs to do is a service and a detail.
One of the best videos you have released lately. Many thanks🎉
