I appreciate that he is restoring it to factory specifications. It’s the right thing to do, and no genuine car was sacrificed in building the spider. This build is a fantastic reward even though it cost a bit of money. It was worth it. I hope you enjoy the car, or the profit from the effort. I however would be more tempted to sell the black one to pay for the expenses, and enjoy the prime example instead of worrying about profit. I’d be more about the experience and owning the best example as long as I didn’t lose financially.

I've lived in Czech Republic for my last 8 years, and the car market is horrendous in here, scammers are everywhere, and if they sniff foreigner, they'll try to screw you even faster and curse you while doing it. When a country only applies mild fines to used car dealers for changing the km of a car (when in the most of western Europe it's a criminal offence with jail time if needed), they have their fun left right and centre. And it's not just to cars, but the automotive sector is shadier than the centre of a black hole.

Amazing car this one. :) Did you ever thought in installing a Forza Componenti exhaust valve controller on it so you can open them and close like you want?!

Sadly, companies like this get away with this too often. There was a VW T4 specialist in Germany, who often sold defective and dirty parts online, the auctions always told you to call, and when you called and they said the part is still there, they often sent you one that looked the same but had a different part number and in case of electronics didn't always work in your car.
Some people did do a good deal on personal pickup though, sometimes they had some stuff they hadn't sorted through going for cheap, and so their online reputation stayed just ok-ish.
They then tried some kind of investment scam though, went bankrupt, apparently didn't have enough money to pay off the debtors, but suddenly a lot of the "lost" inventory showed up on another Ebay-account from the person who ran the shop last time, and it seems he is back to his old shenanigans, again with enough (fake?) review praising him as a source for used parts.
Its guys like these, and other "retro" shops that always buy up reproduction runs of spare parts in bulk and then sell them for double the factory price, that give small shops a bad reputation.
With the larger ones you know that they are shit anyway :D

    Hi Scott
I think you did the right thing, even though its a bitter situation, least you got the parts out of it you needed, is the engine itself still the original ? or is that in the spider now ?
Regards Mike AKA MEC from MEC-TEC

It’s nice you’re not naming the scammers. Now they get to scam other people without them knowning :)

If you want the push button doing I’ve got a prototyping resin kit that I’ve used for doing similar buttons etc for ex military aircraft , I’d be happy to make you a mould etc FOC and you can go off and play with the resin from there or I can get red pigment easily enough , the resin is the easy bit , only problem really would be meeting to cast the button ( casing takes 30 mins at most with this stuff ) , I’d not have it shipped and if I were you I’d not want to let it out of my sight

The silver start button looks great, I would laser etch the button a ferrari symbol and paint it red or keep it silver.

The Fayette start switch actually looks as if it is better quality than the Ferrari switch

That’s called bait and switch.. and here in the USA it’s illegal. He baited you in with a deal..and since you went, he switched the deal up.. and since you drove the long distance you felt obligated to buy the parts instead of going home empty handed.

On a smaller scale I was scammed in similar way for VW Corrado parts back a few years ago. When people have rare and scarce parts they often get multiple offers and that messes things up.
