    I think you'll fix this Scuderia way under budget!
    Regarding the broken stud, easiest way is to center punch it and drill it out slowly with successively larger drill bits, then retap it. If you use reverse drill bits, it may pull out the stud in the process of drilling. If you do damage the original threads, can repair the thread using a time-sert. Wouldn't use an "easy-out" type remover, because they tend to snap, and they can't be drilled, have to be ground out. You'll be hating life if that happens.

    You can use a welder to biuld up the broken stud and then weld a nut to the stud. the heat will help release the stud from the inner wheel well. Then you can use a wrench to turn the nut and the broken stud wil come out. Does not alway work the first time as for the Hub, same thing. you will have to replace the stripped bolt but it is stripped so it is trash anyway. Keep up the great content. Cheers!-

    Hey Scott, as for that broken off stud you can weld a nut to it and take it off that way. If you can't get a welder just buy some reverse drill bits and drill a hole in it. Sometimes it may just come out from using a reverse drill bit. If not after you drill the hole install an easy out and you should be able to get it out. I hope that helps. As for your shock, I'm sure the reason why it's expensive is because of the titanium spring. Obviously the spring looks like it's in good condition. Just replace the shock cartridge only. Just be careful when taking that spring off. It is under a lot of pressure and can kill you. Just use a spring compressor.

    Your only option with the sheared stud is to very carefully drill a 4 to 6mm hole in the center about 8 mm deep, warm up the area with a small butane blowtorch and then insert the most expensive easy out you can find for the size hole (the cheap ones just deform) use a T-Handle tap wrench on the easy out and push into it while turning it out. If I was nearby I'd pop in and do it for you. You do great work BTW.

    For removing the sheared bolts it is best to clean the end of them and weld on a washer and nut. Or just a nut works too. This blasts the bolt with heat and the newly fastened nut allows you to undo it. Always let the weld cool down almost fully before trying it and be prepare to reweld it a few times. It will work, its the only thing that works for me anyway. Drilling out is never easy and more likely to wander off and damage the frame.

I was thinking we need to look under the car to see what sort of carnage might have occurred, but then when it would not steer, you jacked it up for a look see. A car like this is a scavenger hunt for unavailable parts that are way too expensive. It adds a whole layer of satisfaction when you overcome the beast.

    On MAN trucks we had to get a conversion file online from Munich, calibrate the throttle, brake and clutch just to 'accept' a new door mirror / window switch part number!

Machine / grind down so it looks proper. Done. Just use the same aluminum alloy and it will be as strong as stock. Aluminum blocks and heads get weld repairs all the time in very high performance motors where replacement is extremely cost prohibitive

    Main power switch is always missing on scud. You have to use a hex-key. Don't know why ferrari left the switch (plastic) out on the scud but the hex-key works as you also discovered.

    Use a cobalt drill bit and then a extractor to get the sheered off bolt out. Don't use titanium bits. They are only titanium coated and are useless. Must use cobalt.
    Edit: You'll need to grind the bolt flat and use a center punch and make sure you drill the center of the bolt.

    An easy and cheap way to get tbe sheared stud is a smaller diameter left hand rotation drill bit and drill it out it actually works well

    Have you thought about the 'old weld a nut on the broken stud trick', Scott?

    • @Ratarossa
      @Ratarossa  Год назад +2

      Its really sheering off flat, would be very difficult to weld

    • @ingresswizard9044
      @ingresswizard9044 Год назад +2

      @@Ratarossa Scott you should be able to build up that stud to where it is not so flat. Once you have built enough clearance up then you can weld a nut on. Doesn't have to look pretty just good enough to break the stud loose.

    I don't drive any more, but even when I did, I never fixed my own cars. Nevertheless, this is one of my favourite channels on RUclips. Scott does such a great job -- both with the cars, but also with his videos.
