Can we all just pause to appreciate Doug's complete transformation into used car dealer salesperson?
Yeah. Of a janky modded high mileage and transmission swapped ferrari too. Crazy. Eat your heart out Ed Bolean.
@@ruvindap66he's really getting down that strategy of talking about values but without mentioning a price. The only thing he's more adept at and that is talking up his own very specific supercars.
I kinda disagree friend, there is no "complete" here... Doug reviewed 4x 2024 brand new car in the last month, still 25-30-40% of the videos are brand new cars depending on the month.
@@EternalGoldenBraid I feel like Dougs always kind of had the brand/business first mentality about him. Not necessarily a bad thing, you gotta make a living somehow and Carrera GTs aren't cheap.
I think he said he worked at a porsche dealership before his RUclips got big
Doug, the kind of guy who calls an electric wheelchair a one person EV.
It's also technically correct. Basically anything that moves using an electric motor is classed as an "electric vehicle" and it's the reason EV fire statistics are so high. When your neighbour's knock-off e-bike he got from Wish inevitably self-combusts, it counts as an electric vehicle fire.

Hopefully not 250 percent.
The F430 is still one of those Cars that still looks timeless (The Design of course).
I have never driven a Manual Swap, only an original Manual and they're surprisingly not too difficult to find here in Germany and especially Europe for some Reason.

@@rsplines12u ever seen his redesign of the F40
I never rated the 430 much at the time: when it was new it felt to me like a failed attempt at making the Ferrari 360 look a little bit newer, with added angular design cues from a Hyundai Coupe of the time...
And I hate hate hate the rear lights design where it looks like theyre almost about to fall out of the rear of the cars. It took way too long for Ferrari to give up that design "feature" :(
Gotta admit: Apart from the tail lighits, the 430 has grown on me though... I wouldnt call it timeless but it still kind of does look contemporary still.
@@rogerwennstrom6677
I do agree, i felt the same way when it came out, though instead of the tail lights i feel the "early LED daytime running lights" don't looks so good anymore now. Same is true with the Audi R8 but i still prefer both their Looks

All the stoage open buttons don't work unless you have the key so you can keep the roof open when parked and everything is secured, including the trunk.
Exactly, and Dougie D would be the first to complain if they all worked with the key off because then he'd claim there's no lockable storage
... but its the same with the Coupe, so still a bit quirky ;)
@@RaphaelLacosteis the functionality the same as the Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus?

Sometimes he gets bamboozled and complains about the most logical things. With a convertible, you don't want much stuff unlocked without the key in the ignition, especially when it's from the era without proximity key.
Pretty sure the OFF button on the climate control is to turn on/off the air conditioning 👍
Thats what I have always thought too. Theres no way that it does literally nothing.
yeah i think that's what it has to be. my car has it labeled "A/C" pretty clearly so the label's certainly got that italian flair but i think that's the most reasonable assumption. Some cars have A/C on by default at all times so maybe that's the reasoning behind calling it "off"
You can turn a/c off but having fan operating.
That is especially useful when driving a convertible in not-so-warm weather and you’d rather have warm, instead of cold, air blowing into you 😂
Yes. Does he do any research before bloviating about the vehicle? He's even worse than Alanis.
That off button is for the AC compressor
ahhhhh now that makes sense. cause i sure don't see an A/C button
Exactly. If you want cold air, the off button has to be depressed. If the off button is not "on" it just blows air. Hence, it actually has a function!

Thanks Doug. A master Ferrari Independent near me said a manual f430 is the closing chapter of the Ferrari era before the computers took over. The official Ferrari main dealer in my city who’s senior mechanic recently won Ferrari mechanic of the year told me “the manual f430 is the best road Ferrari, its handling, feel, engine sound, steering and its straight forward to work on. In the workshop amongst all the engineers it’s our favourite of all Ferraris” and added… “hell, even the paint quality is unequaled”. I’m fortunate to own a manual coupe and am of course biased to agree because it’s amazing.
This is THE car that forever made manual transmissions obsolete. Swapping it is blasphemy!!!
@@charleydrummond8789 Nah. This isn't blasphemy. This is making a great sports car even better. All the people who've driven a manual or manual-swapped F430 agree it's the better version of the car.
Also, there's nothing obsolete about a stick shift on a sports car of all things. A lot of people want manuals back on these things and think the move to paddle shifters was a mistake. And that's cause you're driving a sports car to have fun and be engaged with driving. Is flicking your pinky to shift more fun and engaging than rev matching and heel and toeing? Why care at all that a paddle shifter is tenths of a second faster when you're mostly gonna be driving a sports car on the road, not on track? And heck, even on track, ESPECIALLy on track, a manual is so much more fun.
@@GlassOnion23can the F430 got an engine swap with Ford Transit Van?
I have never driven a ferrari so I can agree with you that the F430 is probably the perfect ferrari but one look at the 458 and I just think to myself "This is what a Ferrari is all about."
My parents got me a drive in an F430 spider for my 18th birthday and I've lusted after one ever since. Beautiful, visceral, LOUD. Just an awesome experience all around.

5:12 In my opinion I like the key with the start button. It makes starting the car more of an event and keeps the familiarity of lock, acc, and on.
I am good friends with the owner of this exact model and have been fortunate enough to have driven it before the gated manual was swapped in. This car has an absolute presence like no other car I've ever seen. The exhaust note is superb, whether you're in the driver's seat or outside the vehicle. While the exhaust is loud, I personally feel that it just adds to the head-turning power that the car has in a good way. The ride is amazing, and when I put my foot down and the nose rose up and the car squatted slightly on the rear axle and started howling its way toward 60 mph, the sheer happiness generated by this process is indescribable. From the outside, the car is absolutely gorgeous, and sitting in the driver's seat is what I imagine sitting on the back of an Italian race horse would feel like. Ferrari scored with this one for sure. If I could afford this car, I'd have it in my garage before you could say "quirks and features."
buttons dont work without key in so you could lock car with roof down
Excellent review. Thank you Doug
A manual-swapped modern Ferrari? That's sick! It's sad that they dosen't make these cool manual Ferraris anymore...
Seriously, if they did then it would sell, even if just to collectors.
@@volvo09If the Sultan of Brunei wanted one, Ferrari would probably build it for him…
Cool is in the eye of the beholder, but for me the idea of anything other than a proper manual transmission in a sports car is mind boggling.
I can’t possibly dislike this enough. THIS was THE car that made manual transmissions obsolete!!!
@@charleydrummond8789 Well, manual conversion kits for the F430 are selling like hotcakes, so, no, not really.

Has anyone else notified Doug is slowly getting less and less detailed in his reviews? I used to love the 40+ minute reviews where he goes so in detail
He explained it quite a few times why he trimmed his total video time a bit, one of which was briefly discussed in his latest Cars and Bids livestream. Longer run times tend to get a bit less views in total. Doug also took Saabkyle04’s videos as an example, saying that eventually, some of Kyle’s extremely-detailed in-depth reviews gained less views and a similar trend also happens to him.
Oh yes, since selling out

What a good combo. I hope the buyer enjoys rowing through the gears with the top down on every sunny day.
You keep saying transmission swap, but the transmission doesn’t get swapped.
Thank you. Adding a pedal and shifter/linkage/etc and updating the electronics/tune isn’t swapping a transmission.
Correct me if i'm wrong but they don't actually swap out the F1 transmission right? Just the mechatronics for paddle shifting to be replaced with the manual shifter. So no actual transmission swap is happening.
Yes
It's nice to see someone covering the key when recording a video for the public. Especially on a car as expensive as this.
Nice to see the use of a 'Doug Chair ' for pratical, indoor car reviews.

Doug, you’re the Top G, we love you and your reviews!
The F430 is and always has been my favourite of the modern Ferrari’s. I like a lot of the models that followed but the F430 is the only one I would actually buy.
The fuel door and all the other buttons can probably be operated with the car in the accessory position. So you better hope the battery isnt dead. You can still run the accessories when out of fuel
I love these cars, they still seem kind of old school but look so great. Really aging well.
i love the A-class on the back!!
Dang it Doug.... now people will try to get into this market too lol. The F430 is the bargain of the century, and 6 speed conversions are commonly available. You can do the conversion and keep the original parts to revert back to the paddles if you want to. I bought a F430 spyder in Canada for just over half the price of a 458 spyder. Although the 458 has a higher redline, the F430 has more charm to it and the perfect amount of power to have fun every time you take it out.
I had one in f1 and I regret not getting the manual when I bought it every day
What about the GT version of the Ferrari F50? When's that review, and the Mercedes CLK-GTR and Porsche 911 GT1?
At least Doug already did the Lamborghini Diablo GTR now that was badass.
F50gt is a 1-of-3 race car, so it’s doubtful but I would love that!
I've always wanted to see him do a CLK-GTR, such a wild looking car

11:30 Old school Italian ergonomics means window switches on the dashboard. Next to the radio. This was a Ferrari Car & Driver was testing against AMG's SL65 of the period and the windows switches were NOT next to the radio. Same price but the Mercedes was clearly in the 21st century.
I think this is such an underrated color combination for a Ferrari, especially a convertible one. The Metallic grey with the red interior and red calipers is such a beautiful combination.
Could be all those buttons that require the power to be on in the car are like that, so the compartments are not accessible to anyone when the car is parked with the roof down.
Lesser cabrios like fx. a Miata lets you lock the glove box and the compartment between the seats with the car key - and the remote opener for the boot and the fuel door are in the compartment between the seats, so you can in effect also lock those.
A beautiful classic 🤩
God, I’ve been thinking of selling my gated 430, but this video and the Ferrari movie put that on ice. Can’t wait for spring to get it out again and roll those miles on.
3:56 apparently a major failure point in the transmission is the potentiometer that is used in the automated manual transmission, it's a costly part that is constantly on backorder by Ferrari, I saw one youtuber who had this problem and converted his f430 to manual for this very reason.
Doug, we love you Doug
Nice spec. I'd like to drive one some day.
Also the electronic glove box release(and the others) are that way for security. If you parked with the top down no one can open your glove box, storage, or fuel door
One important design element is that the f430 is the last convertible Ferrari with an engine view. From what I can quickly recall the 360 spider is the only other model with an engine view, those before don’t and those after is all folding hard top

Pls make a vid about who to buy what hybrid/EV 🙏
Like isn't a plug in hybrid more efficient on long trips too wn they say it can travel like 700 miles?
Doesn't that OFF button turn on or off the compressor, so that you can deactivate the power-sapping compressor belt?
an amazing car designed by Frank Stephenson's Team, love the mix of modern and analog vibe of this car ;)
@Doug Demuro Doug, you have been making these videos for a long time now. I especially enjoy watching the ones of cars that are too expensive for me so I will never be able to own one.
I was wondering about your doug score charts. Does a massive database exist publicly so we can see all the cars vs each other? Maybe a google doc or something?
My dream! Manual gearbox rocks!
This was always one of my favorite Ferrari’s lookswise. With the manual swaps available I’m gonna have to put it on my list.
How is the clutch for the conversions? Do they still need to be replaced every 15k miles? Is there any good aftermarket clutches these cars can take to increase milage between replacements?
When Doug says "a couple of revs" he's not kidding.
The stamped f430 symbol on the wing mirror is like the f40 stamp only being on one side of the f40 spoiler - it’s a nod to the fact that enzo ferrari apparently didn’t want to see the symbol going backwards and not forwards
My dream Ferrari. No matter how old it will be. I still want one.
greatest car I ever owned was an F430 spider (Red) with f1 - so much fun
11:45 does the off turn A/C off? meaning that when it's on it runs the a/c compressor etc but when it's off it doesn't

Hi Doug. I'm not sure if you've reviewed this car yet but with all the electric cars coming ouit I would love to hear your take on the Vinfast VF8+ EV. I know you like Quirkey cars and this sure looks like it could be a fun and interesting review. Hope all is well. Thanks! Joe D
Love my 430. I haven’t done the manual swap, but I’ve driven both a stock manual and a manual swap. Personally, I really think the F1 transmission is underrated. Yes, it’s a little sluggish from 1st to 2nd, but that’s about it. And it’s only “sluggish” if you’re thinking of it like a normal automatic. But the reality is it’s not really shifting any slower than 95% of people would. And in higher gears, it’s just as fast if not faster. The little kicks you get are great too, much more exciting than a dual clutch. Now that the manual swaps are getting easier and more affordable (it’s about $10k and you can DIY), there should be no reason to value the stock manuals so much higher than the F1 autos. Seriously, the swaps feel exactly the same, because technically it is. I considered the swap, but I think I’ll keep the F1 system until it craps out one day. Also, you can make these cars sound epic… go to my channel and listen to any of my newer videos… New exhaust sounds awesome.
The idea of F1 manuals being sluggish is so over done. Maybe the 355 with an F1 is sluggish, but even if the 360 it shifts faster than a human.. and is very mechanical feeling. The F430 is more crisp, but still mechanical. The new stuff while widely fast is kind of video-game-ish to me.
@@matthewpizzi8263 complete agree.
The turn signal light was like that on the Mini Cooper S I used to have.
Fantastic example of one.
Normally I like a rambunctious exhaust, even straight pipe on some things, but for me part of the theatre of an F430 is the way the exhaust sounds from factory.
If I was the buyer, I would account for an exhaust swap. Not that this one is bad, it's just a preference I suppose.
The inconvenience of glovebox and front trunk is the result of some security - when you park with the hood down.
I'm confused, he says the glove box, etc., works when the car in in accessory mode. But then he says they won't work if the car isn't running? If you ran out of gas, could you not just turn the car to ACC mode to pop the fuel door? If the battery died, that would be a different issue since they have an electric motor to open.
This has to be a modern day classic. It’s one of my dream cars. And it’s wild still looks so modern.
Doug, I know this is nitpicking, but it's not really a "swap", it's a conversion. You use the same transmission, you just remove the parts that do the auto-shifting and substitute them with shift rods or cables depending on what kit you use.
DDE doing a few gated Ferrari and Lambos❤
Seeing that these models are getting manual swaps. Makes them a lot more desirable for me.
I do like modern cars with DCT or a good automatic. But there'll always be something special about a true manual, 3 pedal, shift it yourself car.
Use launch control a few times and the F1 gearbox will detonate lol. Also, some say that you can never be seen in the last model year Ferrari when the the new one comes out.
Doug's covered by dream garage now..

It’s actually good that it’s not letting you open the glove box, when it’s not running - when you leave it roof down, no one can get something from it just passing by.

Love that you name the manual 430 as your third favorite Ferrari behind the F50 and F40, but then you have the Scud at the end with a higher (the highest) Doug score. The Scud is the better car.
Manual swaps are becoming popular, might be a good business to set up. Most new car owners are buying autos, but the type of buyer for a bit older sports car wants a manual, as it is more engaging and even more reliable. I wonder if its doable to any car, even if they were not offerrd with manual in the first place
LITERALLY the only Ferrari I’ve ever wanted. The manual swap makes it even more appealing to me 😍
