Awesome colaboration Scott .. Congrats on million views you definitely deserve it.. very glad Barkaways manage to find your 308 problems..
Happy Holidays and hopefully next year we see the F-40 project build !
I clicked on the link thinking... Why would he send a 308 Peugeot to a Ferrari specialist lol
Once you consult an actual expert like Ian, you always wish you'd done it sooner. What an absolute Champion he is
I couldn't agree more, the amount of stress that car caused me. Having said that there were many more problems on it that got fixed in the process
I have to say I got a bit choked up by this video Scott because of the community spirit on display here between Ian and yourself. It would be wonderful if Ian’s enthusiasm and knowledge could help your BBi project.
Ian is a lovely guy, always happy & smiling. Not many would have taken on this project and worked on it in his own time. I truly am very grateful and if anything I hope this shows over UK owners how good Barkaways are.
@@RatarossaIan is well known and respected in the Ferrari world, but I've found this to be quite common among some of the Ferrari indies, they are petrolhead who work on cars😊 esp
I remember working at a tech in a USAF electrical equipment lab and would get stuck. I'd eventually have a collegue come over and see what I had missed. He'd usually spot the problem right away. And I'd do the same for him once in a while. We seem to get blinded from time to time, yet there can be so many possibilities that it can be quite helpful to have someone else with fresh eyes have a look.
100% agree, i'm not afraid to say I totally missed this one. Pleased it was a simple fix and very refreshing to not be struggling with trying to work it out now .... and having a running car that I can actually drive is fantastic
LET THE BLOKE FINISH HIS SENTENCES!! I could listen to passionate people like that all day and you practically interrupted his every sentence.
Calm down, you will have a stroke 😂
Yes, Ian deserves ultimate respect, but Scott is just a regular guy who sometimes gets excited and forgets. Go easy on Scott, he's simply just a nice guy. I'm glad that Ian could help him out.
I am SO glad you got that sorted. You could just tell it was going to be a simple fix, but glad it's done now and you can find it a new home.
It was going either way a simple fix or a very difficult engine out job .... so despite kicking myself for not finding this, i am very relieved it was simple and now sorted.
A++ for Ian @ Barkaways - hopefully Scott can finish this 308 project.
Agreed
Ian is spot on, italian mechanics is usually bombproof, it goes for Fiat, Alfa, Maserati, etc. Its the electrics & plastics that’s sometimes frail. Engines, gearboxes, rear diff’s, they last forever. Thats where the germans still got a lot to learn!
Cambiocorsa & selespeed gearboxes laughing at this comment
A “ bomb proof Ferrari “. Oh my days I’ve heard it all 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Re the blue concourse car: My dad's best friend, David Gatehouse was the boss at Huddersfield Garages during that period and it's likely that he ran that car. I may even have been in it as a kid as he'd often visit and take me for a spin. I always used to get in the Ferrari motor show stands as a boy, happy days.
That what i love about RUclips you find out and hear these fantastic stories often linked to the cars and the history. when i started the BBi series it was heart warming to find out all the historical details from the ferrari driver who delivered it to past owners.
The BBi is the pride of your collection.
Ian is the Jedi Master of Ferraris. Stunning 308, love the blue.
Ian's reaction when he saw you car was the same reaction when I sold my Caterham to him ( he bought the car for his son ) ......His son had to remind him it was an ex race car and not a concours Ferrari. Seen his 308 at Salon Prive amazing car. Genuine Ferrari enthusiast and when I get mine I would have no hesitation to take it to Barkaway,
Ian’s 308 looks stunning in blue!👍👍
Can I just say that Ian and Ben at Barkaways are amazing …… their commitment to customer satisfaction and their knowledge is outstanding ……. And Ian’s 308 is probably the best in the world and a testament to what Barkaways can achieve.
Totally agree 🙏🏻
Iain Tyrrell's workshop is in no way inferior and I would hazard deals with more historically significant Italian sportscars. Not taking away anything from this shop at all, his 308 is stunning.
I could listen this conversations for hours
Plug wires! I bought a '41 yacht a few years ago that wouldn't run and needed two new 454s. apparently the "marine" mechanic routed the wires wrong because the factory had the two engines swapped (one spins CW and the other CCW). When I realized the issue, I put the wires where they belonged and both engines fired. Its been a good boat since.
I bet that felt bloody good when you figured it out and it was a simple fix
Yeah I was a superstar on the dock as that boat hadn't run in 10 years. @@Ratarossa
That is a Video For Keeps to anybody works on Ferrari's. Many bits of knowledge. Cheers Mate
brilliant video and Barkaways is the only one of 3 specialists i know that really give a crap about the cars.
So nice to see you and Ian in the same video. He is a Ferrari legend and I’ve been following his channel for many years. His 308 RUclips serie just shows how meticulous he is. Stunning car! Is outstanding to see you discussing about a Ferrari, that really boost the community!
Thanks very much. Ian is a genuinely great Ferrari great, so happy to have him help on the 308.
That blue color is just beautiful
Honestly i'm not a fan of blue normally but Ian's car is jaw dropping stunning. I would 100% have a blue 308 after seeing his.
So happy for You that this one is sorted out, especially after the backblow of the crazy expensive ecu. 7:26 "That's foward motion, isn't it?" made me laugh so hard (and all of his curses in the beginning too). We love You, keep up!
Glad you hooked up with barkaways they could help you loads with questions on the bbi restoration
Very glad you sorted out the problem and, what an amazing workshop Barkaways is! They even have an extremely rare Alfa Romeo Giulia SS of the early 60s (or at least is what seems to me on minute 22'12"). Only a few hundreds of them were built at the time and a lot less still survive nowadays.
Happy Christmas Scott!
couple of things from my very amateur restoration knowledge, those pipe clamps are what should be on any car, you shouldn't use jubilee clips on fuel hoses. The "double ear" clamps are what's supposed to be used. Also to protect alloy cases, I use ACF-50..stays like a film, but stops alloy and bright metal oxidising..
I love a scarlet 308... possibly the prettiest car ever (thank you Cannonball Run!), but I love the fact Ian was "brave" enough to go for that blue. What a stunning car! 🤩🤩🤩
Yes a bold move that 100% paid off
This guy really knows his stuff
What a knowledgeable gentleman... Well done to Ian and all the team at Barkaways.
Never a fan of the 308 however, the blue 308 is a shocker! Fair play to Ian and massive respect, his work is beautiful. I must admit, I do like the the grey 308 as well... get the bigger wheels ;)
Totally agree
Bravo!!! I like Barkaway's They're really into Ferraris for real like Ian Terrell.. Not saying you're not! 😂 But it's always great to collaborate with some greats. Scott enjoy your Holiday 🎉🎄
Brilliant stuff! I'm so pleased the 308 is running again. Well done Ian and Barkaways. Speaking of which, his 308... Wow! Just wow! What a perfect beauty, and what an inspiration for you with your own gorgeous BBi. One day, yours will look like his!
Great to see the car getting back to the way it should be. All of us have mis-wired a distributor, it happens. Glad it was an "easy" fix. Can't wait to see the garage update and the plans for the future. I'd imagine you already have a buyer lined up for the BBi and several other cars to get rolling on your F40 project.
You folks need to check out Jared Pink from the questionable garage.. he made a holley fuel injection setup work on a 308.
Ians a lovely man
Ian's Blue is a Beauty
Dude, you never cease to amaze me. Thank you for the smiles bro!
My pleasure!!
Good to hear it turned out to be a simple fix
very good indeed
What a nice bloke Ian is. Brilliant you have fixed the issue with the car. Its great when skills are shared and no doubt a big relief to you. Will look forward to seeing how this one is finished off. Merry Christmas
I'm so glad u bought the BBI I truly love it on your channel and pray u never sell . I enjoy seeing it
Thanks so much
@Ratarossa u r welcome have a blessed weekend and I a happy Christmas and new year. Jesus loves you all Romans ch10 verses 9&10
That is a stunning 308, I actually really admire your grey one, and think it’s an amazing base for a rolling restoration. This is the sort of Ferrari I’m in search of 😊
The resto on the blue one is great but I actually prefer the grey.
I am amazed at his knowledge and love the blue! It suits it nicely as well as the grey. Cheers!
This is one of the best videos , enjoyed every minute apart from the adv bit , if the Porsche is on sale then I b interested
Scott, the Blue is lovely and very smart however, the silver/grey is my preference. I’m pleased that your issue wasn’t serious and has been sorted out. I’d have pulled my hair out trying to solve that issue. Only Ferrari could make both banks with the same covers! Ridiculous to think that’s how they did it. I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year from 🇨🇦
Thanks buddy. Happy Christmas to you and yours
Give yourself more credit… You do so much great mechanic work on Ferraris, it is an inspiration to those of us who thought we could never attempt such efforts. Humility has its place. Don’t give it up too easily 😉👊🏻
Glad you figured it out
Sometimes we’re just too close to a project and need the perspective of someone father away to see the forest through the trees. Glad it got sussed, hope it nets you some well deserved funds!
Totally agree, this one stumped me. Please it ended up being something simple though
another great video!! Maybe after our 458 project a 308 one would be fun!! We are currently getting close to moving towards body and paint on our 458 spider.
Smashing story. So simple yet so foxy a problem. Solace knowing the electrics, all the new/ish parts, etc. are now bulletproof.
It had to be a simple fix. The sigh of relief I can now breath that its finally solved though its great
Must say what a really nice guy Ian is from Barkways after taking the time to explain the faults on camera 10/10 to him for his efforts..
3000+ hours ,starting with a good car? Amazing result.
Stunning car
Ian's 308 looks amazing in that blue colour, I am so glad that he managed to get your 308 figured out, there is no shame in having an expert fix your problem, and if they put the valve covers on like that, well if you didn't have the manual how would you know it was wrong. I like that silver car also, with a good poliish on it, it would look good. Whoever gets that silver 308 will be lucky after all the work you and Ian put into it to fix the issues. I am enjoying the builds you are doing as you switch between them. Keep up the good work, glad you have a new garage to do some work in compared to just at home.
Thanks very much for the great comment. Glad you are enjoying the videos.
The number 1 to go to for any Ferrari problems
Fantastic content throughout the year. Looking forward to your escapades in 2024
What a sharing of a wealth of knowledge! Think of the amount of time that would have need spent trying to figure that out without Ian! Great job Ian! Appreciate your help.
Love these guys at Barkaways. Great collab! More of these please
That blue 308 is marvellous, makes me miss my 84 qv, also blue (albeit a bit lighter shade), with black interiors. I always prefer non-red ferraris 🙂. I still regret selling, of course!
Seeing it in the fresh, jaw dropping stunning. I will be selling mine to fund other projects but know I will regret it
excellent vid dude, and the simplest things catch us out,. that is always why it is best to start with basics
Isn’t it amazing how so often it is something basic that can drive you nuts. I’ve made that cross wiring mistake myself, so I guess I’m in good company. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I knew this would either be something simple or something very bad. In one respect I'm very happy it was simple and easy to fix.
Since Jack has yanked more heads than Henry VIII, I’m surprised he didn’t notice it, but then again, it WAS Jack, so….nevermind😀
That is a lovely deep blue on that 308
Its stunning.
It's probably because of my age but I love the 308?328/288 body style.
It's timeless, it looks as good today as it did back then.
OMG, I love this Guy. Ian, you are a legend!
Thanks, great video. I am Really disappionted i did not hear Ian’s blue beauty car purr… even a contrast between the two!!!! Great job to you both, but that blue is jaw dropping
happy you got it going
That blue is stunning!
Trust me ... its even better in the fresh.
Put the engine in already and rip 😂😂 Awesome episode, love your content.
Hell Yeah! Cheers from Texas!
The 308 is still one of my dream cars, glad it is sorted
Hi Scotty, don't be too hard on yourself. Sometimes it takes a fresh set of eyes to work through an issue. I would've done the same too mate. It is a bit silly the way they numbered the covers and an easy mistake to make. Glad she's ok now. It really needs a good long drive once it's properly sorted.
Anyways, have a Merry Christmas mate.
Cheers.
Thank you buddy, its not easy the crazy thing is cables were correct at plug end just wrong in dizzy cap. Happy Christmas to you to !
Wheeeeew - glad the gray 308 engine is sorted and running well now. 🙂
Loved that Scott 👍🏻
Fantastic video. Sometimes you just have to admit defeat and call on a specialist and that can be a hard pill to swallow. Please consider doing a few more videos with Ian. What a great conversationalist.
real glad you got that sorted and Ian obviously knows his stuff and so good that he is willing to share his knowledge. Please please stop leaning on that brand new paint of the BBI you really dont want to damage that finish before its finished Merry Xmas to you and your family mate
Haven't been wet sanded and polished yet.
I am currently restoring my very low mile 25yr old vehicle. Restoration can be so infuriating, never mind the availability of parts. So, this situation with the plug wires doesn't surprise me in the least. Personally I am almost completed, nearly there, and that seems to be the sticking point. Good luck on the BBI Scott, I so look forward to you completing it and sending it on to a new owner for a substantial cheque. I swear if its not a closed course its too dangerous to hazard pottering about the highways and byways.
I’ve been collecting and restoring old Pontiac GTOs and Firebirds for 45 years. My parts collection over the years is pretty plentiful, and what I don’t have on the shelf I can get relatively easily. I just picked up a 1968 Chrysler 300 a few weeks ago. Ummmmm Parts for this thing are pretty scarce! Like a nice lower Rocker molding for the passenger side. None around worth buying, and no repops anywhere. Chrysler emblem for the trunk lid. Upholstery is not a problem, but little things like seat hinge covers. Nope! This thing is a true unicorn! Parts swap meets is my best alternative for weird parts! Hopefully someone doesn’t know what they have, as you can pretty much name your price!
Beautiful 😮
308 she's beautiful❤
Scott, try KMI in the UK for getting K-jetronic parts rebuilt and calibrated. They have just finished the parts for my 1976 Carrera 3.0 and now it runs perfectly! also check for air leaks or replace all of the seals and rubber components.
My, you are having quite the extended xmas break.
Nice vid. A nice colab with Barkaways even though the Ferrari was poorly. Hope you got experience his Ferrari.
16:18 There's one major problem with Mr. Barkways 308....the gear shifter is on the wrong side.
Italians always overcomplicate things. And please for the love of this short life please reveal this F40 build, every video I'm finding myself looking for clues or waiting for an announcement 😂 it's like going bed with the wife on a promise only to be told "I've got a headache" yes wife so have I, right on the end 😂 😂 Merry Christmas 🤶 hope Santa drops the F40 down your chimney for making us viewers wait 😁
The main thing is the problem is sorted. Now you can move on and make that frog look like a princess again. That blue Ferrari is really really beautiful I must say. The tan interior really suits the color. Now get that BBI going because that car have me glued to your channel.
Kjet injection is a nice simple thing to play with. It's always easier to follow the test procedure ,ignition, compression, fuel flow, Fuel pressure .
Merry Christmas everybody 🎄🎁
Scott, we all love your RUclips channel ❤👍🏻
Well, I don’t. I come to every video and watch it all the way through just so I can make very specific criticisms in the comments.
For example, there were not nearly enough whales in this video, and he didn’t mention dolphins even once.
literally crying at this comment LOL
@@Ratarossa U DA MAN 👊🏻
@lebojay Whales hog all the headlines. No wonder their heads won’t fit through the door anymore. Bastards! Dolphins need love too!
Happy Holidays
Glad you got someone in to fix the 308. Only thing is now whenever you have any running problems on any future builds, everyone is going to ask if the plug leads are fitted correctly....😛
Have a Merry Christmas and a Pleasant and Prosperous New Year 👍
Same to you!
Damn Ratarossa
You are a OutRunner.
Hey Scott...Breathe a sigh if relief...You also knew It had to be something stupid (You had trouble shooted and swapped out everything else !! ;D) and no fault of yours it was, You would naturally assume that the leads were correct and not on back to front...Anyhoops all good put a few miles on and down the road she goes (with a clear conscience!) Nicely done Ian you did Scott proud!
I like this dude! I can't explain why but he seems to know his stuff and was very helpful. This is the kind of dude that likes to share knowledge to help others I think.
Oh boy, that "turn the key see what it sounds like, so, know what we're getting ourselves in to" line had me cracking up internally. "He's going to turn it on, it's gonna sound horrible, and he's going to say "Blimey!" and I'm going to crack up." And then he said Blimey!
Ian's blue 308 is a true mint show car ..Id like to see that high quality restoration in the original red personally..Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
a 308 Master clss. Gold nuggets. amazing. thank you
FINALLY! lol! Love your channel.
Yay! Thank you!
What a nice video
Well simple fix. Always when you fix cars you thing its some major or something 1 of kind fault, but no just go to basics like fireing order, make sure you have fuel and injectors work/carb so on. Engines are quite simple afther all. Last one i took every possible stuff/electrics out from my mb slk , and fix were just one loose wire in box :)
Its always the way. i overlooked a simple one .... but my brain was fried from all the other issues.
I heard him mention the ‘sprint pack’. This was sort of a Ferrari back door option the dealers installed in Europe only. It consists of 16” wheels (speedline, super rare) Ferrari’s P6 racing camshaft, and forged Borgo high compression pistons from the queen mother Ferrari which are about 9.8:1 compression. I have extensive experience setting up the sprint pack engine on the dyno, they upgrade is good for about 250-260hp but they are absolute pigs to drive. The P6 camshaft is far and away too much duration and those pistons are not nearly enough compression to make it bark right
Great to hear. yes I believe Ian was saying the same thing. He upgraded to 'some' of the sprint pack mods but I dont think he did the engine for exactly that reason.... its a pig to drive !
Nice one
Firing order always sounded out. I guess you should never trust a previous owner if the car turns up a non runner. Merry Christmas mate!
The crazy thing is I even checked the cams to see if they were out. I looked at the firing order at the plug end (labeled) but just didn't spot at the cap end they were wired wrong... big relief to have it running now though
