Hello Friends! This week I decided to take some beautiful silky, satin material that i have had in my stash for a while and create a dressing robe with it. I was nervous about making such a large garment with such a squidgy material, but it turned out great. I think this project would be awesome for people who wanted to make bridal/bridesmaid robes, or even just some really beautiful lounge wear!

Love, light and spoons to you and all who need them!
Squidgy fabric always has us asking ourselves whether the final item is going to be worth the hassle of wrestling with it during the sewing process! Your robe is definitely worth it.😻
Thank you!!
I am so glad that you and Morgan get to spend time together. It can only do the both of you good. Continue to get better in your health.
Thank you!
Your robe looks great without a belt. It gives me casual wizard vibes.
Hahaha thank you! I agree!
I agree that the look of it open is fabulous. But if you wanted to secure it and not have it slide open more, you could use a cloak clasp. If that doesn’t worry you, then it is already perfect 😁
I'm sewing a robe for my friend's birthday party. Everyone will be dressed up and the theme is the ocean, which means that i bought a beautiful ocean waves print that i am in love with. I sketched an outfit inspired by the tudor era as well as some fantasy and sewed a crown with lots of beads. I'm super excited for the party :3
That's a great idea! I would love to see that when it's done!
No belt. Possibly a single button. Also tassels? For the cats of course. ❤
I was thinking a hook and eye closure, just in case you want to hold it closed for some reason
Hahahaha tassels! Yes!
I think an “inside tie” and/or an inside button and and outside button.
Or, frog closures.
Make the belt and use the scraps as an appliqued end. I think Charles James did some shaped appliqued accents that kind of remind me of using up odd shaped remnants
Those button hole attachments are awesome 1 step magic button hole makers. Fit the size and shape button hole gear inside, attach to the machine, align the fabric, pedal to the metal, magic!
I used the buttonholer ion my mom’s old Domestic many times. It allows a straight stitch machine to pretend zigzag by clamping the fabric, kind of like a very specialized walking foot. You are limited to the cams that come with it, and it’s rather terrifying and noisy, but the buttonholes are perfection. As a little kid I was fascinated by the kerchunk-clack kerchunk-clack.
Now I’m very excited to try it!! Thanks!
Despite that floopy fabric challenges, this is a stunning robe!
Thank you!!
According to my late mom, Singer buttonhole feet were compatible with other sewing machines. She gave a Singer buttonholer to my gran to use with a Pfaff machine. It still works.
Oooo good to know!
I have had one of those buttonholers for thirty years and used it every single time I've ever made buttonholes
Buttonholer in the green plastic case is most likely to fit your featherweight … unless it accidentally got switched and the wrong size is in the case. What you need is a buttonhole attachment for a low shank machine.
Go through all your metal cams and save one each of all the different sizes and types before getting rid of all the others. Most buttonholers were manufactured by greist and the cams are interchangeable.
You can look up the part number online and confirm that what is in your case is a low shank buttonhole attachment
oooo thank you for the advice!!!
Hi, glad to hear you're coming back from long covid at last, so far we've not had it, fingers crossed. Enjoy your time with your friends, they are important. ❤
Thank you!
Hi, very very cold from Geelong Australia. I have been binge watching “My lady Jane” and quilting. Enjoy catching up with Morgan ❤
Thank you!
Hello from Aus, it's quite chilly with Polar Winds due again next week
We Love Mark Fennell and Stuff The British Stole, those episodes are amazing
Stay toasty! And he’s awesome! I should go see what else he has done!
Currently in the warm house enjoying sunshine through the window though it's winter and chilly outside. I'm turning old sheets into basic tunics for my family to wear to SCA events and Medieval Faires. Midwinter feast coming up in a couple of weeks and some extra layers will help convince them that they want to join me.
That sounds lovely!
Hello from Australia! yes its freezing here in southern Victoria... its 10C during the day and 0-2C during the night... Perfect weather for curling up inside and sewing!
Oh that sounds cozy! I am jealous!
I'm currently sewing a zero-waste halter dress based on the instructions from Threads Magazine from a few years back. My version is truly zero-waste; I drafted the pattern on old packing paper, got the fabric (gauzy mercerized cotton) from a friend's yard sale after she had gotten it from a thrift store, substituted recycled buttons for the zipper, and I'm doing the whole thing by hand (because my sewing machine runs warm and we've had triple-digit temperatures here all month). And I'm probably going to re-watch Severance again because I still haven't figured out how to cancel my 🍏 subscription.
I think you can cancel your subscription on your phone in the subscriptions thing in the settings! But that’s so awesome about the dress! I hope you love it!
I can’t wait to see what you do with all those buttonhole attachments! I love gadgets.
Me too!!
I absolutely love the blue in the floral and the lining. This robe just exudes luxury and comfort.Perhaps make a headband with the scraps sewed onto black elastic? Maybe stitch the remnants onto a plain/premade tote bag for when the robe is packed or to contain essentials to be with you when you watch a movie at home or at a hotel?
Oooo brilliant ideas!
Also just rewatched Severance! It’s amazing and I spent the whole time marveling at how clever and purposeful the camera angles are 😅
THEY ARE SO GOOD
I loved my mother's 1950s Singer's buttonholer! I loved using them 40 years ago. You figured which size you wanted and put the right size template into the buttonholer and it sewed the buttonhole!!!
I hated the new Singer plastic stupid buttonhole thing... I tried to use it a year ago and I really did never figure it out...
I'm up in the north bay and my mom and I were sewing during the first week of July when it was so hot. I'm making button up short sleeve shirts for cowboy shooting and she's working through a massive pile of mending.
We just put the ironing board outside on the back porch do the heat stayed outside. It sucked if you had to iron anything a lot, but then it was just nice coming back into the house again.
That’s a very good idea!
Hi Noelle! Good to see you! I haven't had much time to craft lately, but you're usually one of my companions when I'm sitting at my sewing machine.
awww that's so awesome! I hope you get more time to sew soon!
@Costuming_Drama me too, thanks!! Hubby, 4 kids, full time job, and farm keep me busy in the warm months!
Your robe is so pretty! I am recovering from emergency gallbladder surgery. I am doing well otherwise. For 10 years, I thought the almost daily pain was panic attacks. Lol, I was very wrong. I've been listening and watching to a ton of long form content, mostly historical documentaries from Germany. I've been catching up on clothing repairs and general maintenance. In the next few days, I plan on cleaning and oiling my machine, changing the needle, and prepping my patterns for the next batch of fabric that will arrive this week. I'm finally joining the AD wrap cape club!
Oh that all sounds fun! I also have had that emergency surgery, so I am here with all of the empathy and hopes for your speedy recovery!
@anxiety4daysmusingmedic891
Good luck with your recovery! You know, I had a relative who always had a little bit of a lower abdominal pouch. She always thought she was just fat. I was a kid, what did I know! It turned out it was a benign tumor. She had been walking around with it for 15 year! Sometimes you just never know! Hopefully you feel back to yourself soon.
I've used a singer buttonholer on my featherweight and it makes much nicer buttonholes than my modern domestic machine.
I just got photos back from a siren photoshoot I did and I'm listening to Tricia Levenseller's Daugher of the Pirate King trilogy on audiobook. Also obsessed with Kiki Rockwell's new song Syrena which goes so perfectly with the photoshoot and the audiobooks. I'm having a bit of a siren summer it seems!
Siren summer is GOALS! I hope you keep it up!
@@Costuming_Drama I'm working with my brother on a cover of Syrena! Siren summer continues
I use my mom’s singer button hole maker on my Janome and love it! Hang on to that box of attachments they are worth keeping.
Thanks for the advice!
Thank you for the encouragement to work with squidgy fabric! I cut out a pair of pants from some linen, and it's squidgier than I expected. When I realized that my waistband got messed up in the cutting I walked away for a solid month. This got me back to the next step. I have enough fabric to re-cut the relevant waistband piece, don't worry :)
Great job! Also, starch works *really* well on linen so I highly suggest that next time!!
@@Costuming_Drama I'll starch it before I cut it out this time! the big pieces are fine because grain is easy to see on this linen, but small curved pieces? harder to get right.
That gorgeous green/blue is amazing
Thank you!
Love it. I want one so bad. The starchening was real.
Hahaha it was!
Those colors are amazing! Yeah visiting Morgan, I'm sure you will have a wonderful time. We're drowning here in the Netherlands, mostly rain, little sun, but it's still lovely.
it seems to always be lovely there!!
I NEVER thought of starching my squidgy fabric. DERP. That's awesome! And the robe turned out great, and I LOVE those colors! As far as what I'm up to... I've not been watching anything, but my latest novel is at almost 64K words and I think it's going to hit 75-80K because it's romantic fantasy/mystery/suspense and wrapping up all the plot points and explaining red herrings is a THING. Other than that I have been re-reading Thieve's World when I've had the available brain cells for it. Anxiously awaiting Deadpool and Wolverine as well as Red One. Your plans sound great, I bet you and Morgan together are hysterically funny, and I hope you have a great time!
Wow! That’s awesome about your novel!!
@@Costuming_Drama Thanks! I finished it. It got away from me - 95K words. O.o
I learned to sew with an old black singer with a buttonholer (the one in the green plastic box). Best button hole maker ever! There are different thingies that make different size and style of button. Pop it in and go.
Well done with the squidgey fabric. And if you get enough material to make the belt, make sure you get enough material so you can make a matching kerchief.
Ha! Great idea!
This is beautiful! We all need a silky satin robe
Indeed!! And thank you!
With this heat we could probably take the fabric outside, press it down with a hand, and it would stay. I love the blue poppy fabric! SO fun.
hahaha no doubt! and thanks!
The box of rotary feet most likely goes with machines made in the late '40s and early '50s from a sewing machine company called White that did white label production for Kenmore and new home. These are typically machines that don't have a belt, instead they have a rubber wheel that presses up against the big wheel on the side of the machine (I don't remember what it is called). The feet clamp on to the bottom of the (another thing I don't remember what it's called) instead of the side. If you go down the rabbit hole of collecting vintage sewing machines, as I have, the rotary top clamping machines are delightful.
Hello Noelle! It feels you're visibly better health- and energy-wise, it's great to see that!
I'm working on a crochet loaf cat as a template for a bigger one that's gonna have hopefully the same spots on it as our real kitty. Gonna be a b-day gift for my husband, so I have to work on it while he's at work and then hide it well (aka not leave it on my desk or pile of projects)... also working on a shawl that's going to be a gift for a friend. I don't have to hide that one, but I can't show neither in my progress/update videos for quite some time still, so... yea, fun.
Constantly catching up on my subscriptions to-watch list and still adding more to it by finding more creators in the sewing/costuming/other crafts youtube vicinity :D
Those are both very awesome gifts! You are so kind! 💖
Not me grumbling everytime you complained about your fabric. I was watching you as I was sewing rayon jersey into a double sided wrap dress. That final seam was a bear! I've been listening to Murder 101, and Cold Blooded. Now that those are done I'm looking for other true crime podcasts. Mostly sewing like crazy remaking my entire wardrobe because I lost weight and every measurement changed. (I also have lipedema so my hips increased). Since I'm a teacher, I have limited time to get it all done. Thanks for sewing with me today.
I’m so glad to grumble together! 🤣
That robe must feel amazing 😍
It's disgustingly humid and hot in New England right now. I'm mostly volunteering at the library, playing some video games (incl Pentiment), and teaching my 16yo son to drive.
I’m also in New England rn, and I agree! 💖
@@Costuming_Drama Hi from a bit south (I think) from Morgan, in NE MA!
Lovely project. Very swooshy.
I prefer the button holes that are made by button hole attachments. I own several machines that have a variety of built in / automatic button hole stitches but keep my 1955 featherweight permanently set up for buttonholes with a singer attachment. They are consistent and even. I stitch around twice for the best finish.
Thanks for the tips!
After many years of eyeing it, I finally got a custom corset pattern from The Clockwork Fairy and they sent it to me this week!! I'm super excited to work on that. I have to make a mockup but of course I'm already planning final colors...either pastel green or color blocked rainbow. Choices, choices! Enjoy your new robe! It looks fun to wear
Oh yay!! You are gonna love that corset!!
Seeing that fabric gave me flashbacks to the silk habotai that I used as lining in my wool coat, which was my first sewing project in 10-ish years. 🤣Why must slinky fabric be so comfortable and easy to care for!
I'm glad that you're getting to go visit a friend. Friends, and especially being around them in-person, is vital for everybody but even more so when you've been sick/depressed/isolated.
I've bought a few books in the last couple of weeks. 18th Century embroidery is what I'm currently reading, but also a book on blackwork embroidery, American pirates, The Cut of Women's Clothes, one on Mucha, and two editions on Kansas tornadoes (I wanted to see what the difference was. It's very little).
Eventually I want to recreate the blue frock coat shown in the 2023 spring Cora Ginsburg publication, so I splurged and bought some silk duchesse in a similar color that was on sale. When will I get to it/be brave enough to attempt it? Who knows! 😅
Oh I hope you do it soon cuz I wanna see!!
@@Costuming_Drama Here's to hoping for next year!
I find starch works best on natural fibres so that's prbably why the viscose worked better as it's made from wood pulp!
yeah... that's kind of what i figured! Worth a shot though!
Learned to make button holes with the add in units. It moves the fabric back snd forth to mimic a zigzag stitch on non zigzag machines.
Hey, you looked more energetic in this vid-hope that’s how you felt!
I _love_ that robe. The pattern and colors are soooo beautiful. Fantastic idea with the starch, a technique I will keep in mind. ❤️
If you’re here in New England, _I’m sorry_ you had to deal with the humidity!!! It’s _horrible!!_ I hope you didn’t suffer it.
My canvas bag with leather straps was ripping. Took it apart. Made a pattern. Bought nice fabric, piping, good needles. Then put it all aside to rip apart my bedroom to put laminate down, redo the ceiling, remake the closet. Ugh. Currently sitting on my pull-out bed in the living room watching your vids, lol. _Buuuuut_ the great news is that my bitey foster fail cat _FINALLY_ found a toy he’ll play with: the leather straps. He can chew on these to his fuzzy hearts content.
So win! Except, now I need to figure out what I’m going to do for straps when I remake the bag. Lol.
Yay for kitty and o hope your bag turns out awesome! New England wasn’t horrible, but yeah, that humidity isn’t for me! 🤣
looks gorgeous! I made one with brocade and cotton for my husband, gives off wizard vibes. Yours is gorgeous, and you don't need a belt.
Thank you!!
I'm glad you like the robe. It's lovely and gorgeous colors! I'm also glad you're getting to visit Morgan. Have lots of fun!
Coping with long term illness bs is hard. You're doing well, taking it day by day. Don't feel badly when your body goes 'f you, I'm not giving you energy today!' because it's not your fault. Chronic illness just is like that. I'm still working on getting that through my own head. It's hard to do.
Today, I hopefully had the last treatment for bedbugs (inspection next week) and I forgot to take my headphones with me when I had to leave my apartment, so I was out for 3-4ish hours without them and I don't do well, anxiety wise, when I forget either my headphones or phone.
I got my Summer Reading Challenge book. I chose Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers. I read the first paragraph and it looks like fun (so does the blurb).
'tany rate, have fun, take it easy and be kind to yourself (like Mr Rogers would say).
That book sounds awesome and I hope the bedbug problem is resolved! I just listened to a podcast about them and it sounds like a nightmare!
That is one of the most beautiful fabrics that I have ever seen. It looks amazing on you. Yay for shenanigans with Morgan 😁. Take care.
Thank you so much!
Lovely colours and I'm impressed with your slinky-fabric-wrangling! It is indeed cold in darkest winter in Tasmania, with heavy frosts and snow in the hills. Lovely blue skies though. And of course Australia is so big that it was over 30C when I visited Darwin last week for a conference!
Stay warm down there! If I could send you my toasty temps, I would!!
Lovely robe
Thank you!
I'm making a faux fur lined green fleece dressing gown using a regency spencer/coat pattern. Its on my dressform half finished looking all Arnolfini in the half light of dawn. If this grotty summer is anything to go by I will need the fur lining!!
That’s a brilliant idea!!
I love your robe! Last weekend was my sewing retreat, and it was amazing. I got to spend a long weekend with other sewists and made a bunch of new friends. I also like that it was unstructured, so we all worked on our own things and chatted. I highly, highly recommend if it's something that's possible.
Oh that sounds great! I’m
Glad you had a lovely time!
Love the robe - it looks so luxurious! If you need a new podcast, I just binged "Are you Afraid of the Dark Universe" and I think you would really like it. Its two guys pitching movies for the cancelled Dark Universe movies and as they go on they create this amazing series of interconnected stories.
That sounds awesome! I’ll check it out!
The robe is so pretty! I don't care for a tie belt on a robe myself, so if go for a toggle closure or something like that. I have covid for the first time ever and it's been difficult to care for my old mum at the same time. I'm watching Arrested Development for the first time too and it's pretty shocking. I'm not sure if I laugh because it's funny or because I feel uncomfortable. I hope you continue to get better and have more good days than bad.
I hope you are better and I absolutely love arrested development and absolutely know what you mean. It does get funnier and funnier as you go, I can tell you that!
When I joined the Air Force in 1975, they hadn’t yet begun making permanent press uniforms and I used the liquid starch religiously because it left no residue when ironing as the spray starch did.😊
Ooo that’s a great reason to use it! It’s hard to find where I live now though!
Liquid starch is hard to find here. But I had that same military experience in 1977.
I use a 1958 Singer and the green buttonholer case you have looks the same shape as the buttonholer that came with my machine; though my case is red. I use it when making button holes with no problem. I also have an attachment for zig-zag stitch because my machine only does straight stitch. So make sure you keep a zig-zag attachment if your antique Singer need one.
Will do thank you!
Seriously - Charles Holbourne series, by Simon Michael. Also, the Medievalists' podcasts. Love that fabric cos I adore poppies. Gonna make me a wrap. Have a wonderful time with She Who We Adore. Xxx
YES. It’s on my must read list once I get into a book groove again… it’s been hard to listen to books rn because long covid makes you have brain fog and books sort of wander off, but I will for sure!
Kia ora from New Zealand. Not really a 'dark' winter, very sunny and relatively warm (still waking up to 0ºC a lot of mornings but the days are sunshine rather than thunderclouds)., scootering to the library with the kids instead of trudging to the car with umbrellas :P
Lots of procrastination at the moment, so many projects and no idea what one to start on now I've recovered from my tournament and a dose of covid.
I’m glad you are better and that it’s staying sunny!
So happy to see you. ❤
💖
I like it without the belt! You did a great job! I have this pattern too, and now you've inspired me to finally make it.
Yaaaay! Thanks!
Great video! Thank you for the time. :)
I just finished book 4 of The Convergence series and the cliff hanger is just killing me!
Oh I hate it when that happens and I don’t have the next book yet!!
I love that hue in general but it is also a really great color on you.
Maybe not a belt (although it is an excuse to fabric shop) but a frog closer at the under bust. It could be an anchor point but maintain the flow while not faffing with slick material for a closure.
Heck yeah! Good idea!
AND it is absolutely glorious, what an eye you have for putting things together
About those buttonhole makers - get in touch with the Closet Historian - she's amazing with them.
Love this robe. You did so well.😊
Thank you! 😊
Your glasses are beautiful! The robe is beautiful! I have taken the belts 🎉😊off of everything I own that has a tie because I end up stepping on them and other miss adventures.
Yeah that’s a great point! And thank you!
Queen of floofy Italian fabrics 🥰
Keep both the black boxes of ancient Wonderfulness for your Featherweight and the singer specific buttonholes will work wonderfully!
By experience I have found the Griest work best on older Elna machines but not perfectly on Singer. I have a 1948 White and would love the opportunity to purchase your White specific attachment!
The robe is beyond elegant!!
Long time viewer, first time commenter ☺️
Hey there! Email me at nheany at gmail dot com! I’ll happily send it to you for free! 💖
I got in on the Craftsy link!
also yes I am in Australia and it is darkest winter and I am desperately in need of sunlight, it's so grey at the moment.
I'm working on a cute hobbit outfit for my birthday party next week and listening to Gideon the Ninth, which I originally read in paperback and am now re-reading through Audible.
I'm glad to hear that your recovery times are getting better! I hope that trend continues
Yay craftsy and yay birthday! I hope your party is most excellent! 💖
A bit off topic, but can I say your music is always on point?
Hahahaha thank you! I try to make it as chaotic as possible 🤣
Love your slinky new robe! I just finished a beginner’s quilt class and am loving it, all I want to do is sew. I’m making an after quilt a la Karen Brown’s Just Get It Done Quilts on YT, by cobbling together the scraps for the backing. I guess it excites the same part of my brain as do jigsaw puzzles. I hope you are feeling well today. Have a great time with Morgan!
That sounds like fun!
Oh! I love that you talk about Stuff the British Stole; I keep meaning to check it out. Marc Fennell is great.
Excited for you to visit friends; I just got to hang with a friend for the first time in a while due to Life Things. But we went to a gallery to check out an exhibit about art nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha. Very very interesting and stunning art.
Also, yes it's so dang cold here (australia), it's been very rainy but finally getting some sun back so I might actually go sit at the park and read. I'm currently reading Elisabeth Wheatley's series, I've just been binging through so many books as I got the kobo subscription when I ran out of complete series from my libraries' digital catelogue. ebooks have been a game changer for me; I've read 54 books this year so far. Turns out if I don't have to hurt my hands holding the book, or deal with returning books to the library physically, I can just blast through them. :D
Yay friend visits and book solutions!! 💖💖
Love it! Beautiful on you!
Thank you!!
1. looks beautiful and swishy and love it!
2. i don't think it needs a belt at all. i think it is much better as an open robe. if you did want the option to close it, some sort of gold-tone closure buckle thing would be really cool.
3. have fun with morgan and travel safe!
4. and i'm so sorry you have to go to a funeral. may their memory be for a blessing.
All the best hun
Thank you for all 4 and I agree with you about 2! 💖💖
I make my blocks for blouses, dresses, skirts, and trousers from Craftsy classes, also all sorts of knitting techniques which have really raised the quality of my work. Really worth it, guys!
That is awesome!
This is a real nostalgia trip for me. I grew up using one of the singer buttonhole makers. My mom would only ever use starch on cotton and linen because it didn't do enough on other fabrics to make it worth doing
I am working on a quilt for my daughter's bed for Lost My Thread's Quilt-a-Long. I live in the Inland Empire so it is very hot here. I teach online for the local community college and am teaching two introductory psychology classes for the summer session. I mainly watch RUclips videos and read fanfiction.
Oh yeah, inland empire is toasty for sure!
I am from the land adjacent to the land down under and I can only imagine the things The British museum has of ours. I am guessing it may be preserved heads of Maori people although I do know they are trying to get them repatriated. It is cold but not too bad but I am from the Deep South of NZ so I am used to much more Antarctic weather. We currently have days at 12°C sometimes they start at -2°C but most days it's fine. The odd bit of rain but otherwise it's fine. I love winter though so I get a hit depressed if I happen to overheat. Beautiful robe.
Oh yay Deep South! The farthest I’ve gone in NZ is the Fiordlands, and that was stunning! 💖 and YES! There’s a whole episode on the heads and also one on a wooden screen! You should check them out!
@@Costuming_Drama Fiordland is where I spent many holidays. It is so beautiful. I am going to check it out!
Been working on a crochet lap blanket for a gift. Just read the cutest modern romance called The Trouble with Love and Ink by Harriet Ashford, which was a little on the spicier side. It was good enough that I wanted to immediately read it again, which hasn't happened in a long time. Been listening to Heidi Priebe here on RUclips. She is super fascinating and her info is just exactly what you need to know to apply trauma healing stuff in your daily life without the fluff and broken down by specific subject. Highly recommend.
Thank you for the recommendations and you are a nice friend to make a lap blanket! That’s no small task! 💖
@@Costuming_Drama It's for my Mom. She deserves it. :)
Hi! Happy to see you, hope you are doing well :) I watch and rewatch your videos for body doubling while I clean, sew, etc. I did sign up for Craftsy and am looking forward to learning more about embroidery. I promised my BFF I would make an overdress for her wedding and hand embroider it so she can have a transformation for the reception, so I need to get started soon as it is likely for next summer 😅
Wow! That’s a heck of a gift!
The Closet Historian uses one of these buttonholers on her vintage Singer 99K and swaers by it .
Excellent
I'm in South Africa so we are experiencing massive storms at the moment. I've been working (I am WFH so I dont worry about the weather outside too much) and doing some digital art. I have been procrastinating my embroidery project for far too long though so it might be something I pick up after I finish some work in progress pieces
Oooo South Africa is so beautiful! Stay warm!
Hello from New Zealand! (the correct term for Australia is the West Island)
Ahahahaha that’s awesome 🤣😂
I’m learning a new but professionally related skill set at my new job (going from traffic analysis to designing traffic control of various kinds), and it’s exhausting but interesting.
Ooo that does sound interesting!
May I offer Pressapalooza as an alternative term tee hee!
Happy to see you again! Your robe is stunning! I desperately neede to make myself a secondary robe but I have SO MANY other projects first (four summer dresses, a blouse, a party dress and pants....) a couple years ago I went down a rabbit hole of vintage ruffler feet and vintage pin tuck feet. I have two of each now 😂 I blame youtube... finished listening to The Alice Network and am now on From Blood $ Ash
That list of todo’s sounds fun!
Love how the robe turned out. just finished reading the lightbringer series by Brent Weeks. currently have a project with squidgy fabric on my table too. mostly done. but it wont be lined and it is sheer, so i am doing it all on my serger.
Someday I need to learn how to use one of those…
I love it! Honestly, I would just put a toggle and loop to close it if you want it closed. It doesn’t need a belt. And you will be less likely to lose a loop closure. The squigginess of that fabric would make a belt closure not very effective, I think.
Also…I am attempting a 1 cut overalls done by The Sewist in one of her videos. It is waaay harder than it looks. I was thinking I need some light summer pants, and I have a bunch of thrifted sheets I can use. 😠
I fully agree and that’s a great idea!
The box marked “Rotary” has an under braider plate, part of a fabric guide plate (I don’t see the screw), a quilting foot, 2-3 rolled hem feet; of varying depths, and a bobbin case(? With the view, machine housing side or bobbin side?) for an unknown machine.
I have those same types of extras (“attachments ” case and all with a few more) that go with my fixed needle posistion 1918 treadle Iron Lady. IDK about your model of Singer but at least 2 of those need to fit into a threaded hole on your needle plate and/or an oil port on your needle plate.
I hope that helps.
That super helps! Thank you!
I made a robe like this for my partner and he absolutely loves it. I drafted the pattern off his measurements based on the variety of videos and blogs out there from OFMD and prior. I ended up making the side seams straight instead of angled, which created large rectangle scraps rather than triangles. I then joined those to the front of the robe like an oversized collar, and small sections of it to the sleeves to lengthen those as the width of the fabric was close but not quite enough for his long arms. It did cause some headaches figuring out construction (particularly because I followed whims instead of instructions lol), but I essentially just made the outer robe then lining robe, attached the long rectangles along the front edge that would normally join the two; turning at the hem (I'm incredibly proud how i got the cuffs to join but couldn't explain what I did if I tried). But the result of the extra fabric along the front means the robe has a really deep front to wrap around him without a lot of fabric to the sides which balanced better for him; plus accidental tartan jedi robe vibes in the end. haha. it's been a big winner this winter for him, as I made it with flannelette outer and printed cotton lining, so it's slippery on the inside but warm still. Even the first month of wearing it I hadn't finished the bottom hem properly so he could give feedback (his first experience with robe beyond the knee so it was important for trip hazard :3 ), but it's all done now and I am super proud of it.
That’s so awesome!
LOVE the robe so much. Makes me want to swoon onto a chaise or something :D I'm working on a cross stitch that's a memorial gift for my friend who just lost one of their cats. It's my biggest project of this nature to date. what could go wrong?!
oh that's so kind of you
Yay! 🎉 Excited to see you making stuff ❤
Working on: currently trying to get some projects finished (Victorian crocheted slippers, a Victorian Knitted hug me tight, pillowcases for two of my nieces' birthdays, and Victorian and Edwardian drawers for a friend. Reading... just biding my time with some unknown romance authors until my favorite author releases her next book next month. (Take my money now.... lol) Watching... Ugh I am having the hardest time finding a show to occupy my time. I hate the lull in the summer.
I hate the lull in summer too, but we do have rings of power coming again shortly!!
@@Costuming_Drama Totally forgot to mention our high were I am last week was 114 today were are at a high of 111. We don't have central air we have 2 window ACs. I wasn't prepared for this level of heat just yet.
Oh! That's looks so swooshy! 😍 Have fun with Morgan. 🤸♀️
Thank you!
That fabric is so pretty! 😍 Congrats on conquering the squidge!!
My niece and oldest nephew have been staying with me and my parents for almost three weeks now while their parents are out of the country. I love them to death but man am I excited for quiet after they go home this weekend!!! I’ll finally get to catch up on House of the Dragon once they leave too (they have a habit of popping in my room as soon as I turn it on lol).
Have fun on your visit with Morgan and I wish you good health/quick recovery!
Hahahaha i read that as "pooping in my room" like 4 times and was soooo confused! Anyway, yay for peace and HotD for you!!
@@Costuming_Drama hahaha, I misread things like that all the time! 😂
“Terial Magic” my friend… it is a liquid stabilizer that washes out after. I found this working with embroidery but use it in my sewing as well. It works on poly satins (it even had a slight effect on nylon tulle, I did tests across the board, don’t ask why). Again, this won’t help you for this project but for the future.
Thank you! I’ll give it a try next go!
I am listening to Someone To Build A Nest In, and really enjoying it!
I’ll check it out!!
If the fabric is washable I suggest soaking it in hot water with clear gelatin. I think it was 3 gallons per a packet. The result is truly crispy.
Thank you!
And some of us in Scotland... where it may technically be summer, but it's still not been above 20 degrees C for weeks...
Oh no! Do stay warm!
