Good luck homie, Bears haven’t been good in close to 20 years. I don’t think they’ll be the Texans of this year, but it’ll be a massive improvement from last year and you’ll really have something to build off of that’s lasting. This rekindled Bears-Packers rivalry is going to be lit

the first QB ive seen extend the ball on a consistant basis like you were saying a few minutes in was actually Zach Wilson believe it or not. a good example of this was his game against the texans where he threw for like 280 or 300. Despite a lot of people not likeing the guy, that whole game should go down as one of the go too games for film for an unexperienced QB in the league

I feel like extending the ball while escaping the pocket is cool, or cute, or whatever, but I don't know if it actually helps you hold onto the ball better. If a D-lineman chops your arm it could still dislodge the ball. Seems to me like tucking the ball would be more secure.

I'm a Packer fan. I didn't believe in Cutler, Trubisky, or Fields. Not in a homer way either, I watched them play and saw many flaws. I had plenty of doubts about Williams as well, so I tuned into the preseason game fully expecting to see a few signs that pointed to him being overrated. I figured, worst case scenario he looks OK and It can be chalked up to vanilla defense. I wasn't expecting to have my mind completely changed. He's clearly very very good, he can make the throws, he makes creative plays, he keeps his head up, he doesn't panic in a crowded pocket. He will be a very good QB, there is honestly no doubt in my mind. I'm still not a believer in Eberflus, especially after watching hard knocks, but we shall see.

The throw at 10 minutes in he again stared a white jersey down and threw it to him (2nd sus pass that 100% should have been picked). He had the shorter route somewhat open too. Thing is, there are so many asterisks to tack on to this performance: rookie QB, first game experience with a new team, miniscule sample size, preseason so winning or losing doesn't matter, freedom to experiment and take chances without real consequence, etc. It's not completely meaningless in terms of analysis, but you're not going to see where Williams is really at until the regular season kicks off.

Alright, Caleb did something very smart, and QB School hasn’t heard of it ever being done. I think I’m sold on Caleb now lol. I just needed one small sign 😂

What I've noticed so far is that he rarely seems to roll out to his left. Would love to see some more of that in the upcoming games. Thanks for the analysis.

On the last play, can the receiver (blue) who runs the return run the route more deliberately to create a pick and make space for himself? It looks like the receiver could have run under the LB covering the RB in the left flat and created a pick against his DB, which would have left a TON of space to catch and run. Thanks!

Once Williams really locks in on the tendencies of Keenan and Rome in their route running it will get scary for secondaries real quick. Flashes of what can be a a great quarterback in the league and it’s it’s going to be exciting to see how high that ceiling can go
Top 15 QB? Top 10? Top 5? Either way I can say as a bears fan that the city is going to crown this man as a king among men lol

Compare the naked bootleg he completed to Moore to the execution of the exact same playcall against the Broncos last season with the previous QB. Williams makes a lot of difficult stuff look easy with his efficient, quick execution.

  • @cubist12

I liked what I saw of him. Most importantly, you didn't see any BIG mistakes, fumbled snaps, bad handoffs, tripping over teammates (although that one play was really close with him and 24). It was on the road in a fairly rowdy stadium, too. I was a little disappointed with 13 and 15. That one near interception play was clearly Caleb forcing it to Odunze to give him a chance. Need to see some better separation from those two. But it's preseason game 1, so we'll see. Swift and Moore seem ready to have great seasons. Also, the line did pretty well for having an injury or two.

I’m confused. Don’t they teach ball carriers to hold ball HIGH & TIGHT, 3 points of contact. But JT is good with CW “extending” the ball in pocket???

Worth noting on the strike to dj Moore he also moves the LB down with his eyes by looking to the flat

I think that last incompletion was kind of Williams and Odunze not understanding each other yet. Webster is already at the front pylon, I'm assuming Williams sees all of that and thinks that Odunze will go deeper to avoid having 2 receivers in the same spot. If Odunze takes a wider angle into the end zone, that's 6. 2 rookies that need reps with each other.
