The real hero here. Thank you 🤙

Legend 👊🏼
Couple things. Incredible show by Sturgill and the band. And THIS is how you do a concert video. Not constants cuts all over and useless crowd footage. Just the band and you can actually watch them play. Absolutely fantastic.
Folks, this is music about as pure as it can possibly be. Enjoy this authenticity.
legend before his time… wise to be a fan now
Dare I say, Zeppelin-esque?
@@CreatureVision Yeah, I’ve been a fan of his for nearly a decade now, and he probably sounds better now than he ever has. So glad he discovered the Grateful Dead and got back out playing music again. He said the Dead reignited his love for music. He said the opportunity to perform with Bob Weir was his first foray back into live music since his depressive slump, so it actually saved him.
I also remember a few years ago when they said he’d never be able to sing again, and the fact that his voice now is arguably the absolute best he’s ever been is also incredible.
Also love that he has his core band back together. His first couple of albums with those guys is probably the best real country music made at that time (second only to Stapleton). Laur Joamets is an absolute powerhouse guitarist, and the drummer’s harmonies with Sturgill sound perfect together.
This truly is just real, authentic, no nonsense, pure, unadulterated country/southern rock/blues. You won’t really find many other bands that stripped back at their live performances these days, but this band is just stupidly good. Love hearing a great classic rock-ish band lineup like that. No bells and whistles, just pure music. Real outlaw sh¡t. Doesn’t get much better than this.
@@jmac9069 I’ll allow it. Would love to hear him cover something like Black Dog or Ramble On with this band
👍🏻👊🏻🫵🏼💯✌️🙏🏻
Dude doesn't use a fancy backdrop, lasers, or crazy lights headlining the main stage... and puts on this kind of a show. He's a bad man
This show’s the tits
He's not afraid of people paying attention to every single second of his thing mayne.
70 years old, been listening to to music for a long time all sorts of stuff but this is one of the best I’ve heard , fantastic concert, all on top form, sturgill Simpson fantastic.
70 here, too. Could not agree more. He's a fascinating cat. Hugely talented and intelligent.
I have never met more 70 year olds who knew how to use a phone, forget about pulling up RUclips, finding new art, and commenting on said art lucidly as I have in these comment sections of late...
Sturgill and Billy Strings have the best bands today.. the raw talent they have is unreal
What about Tyler?
And Marcus
@@sj44kiehavik50Tyler has a tight band, but they can’t pick it like Sturgill’s lineup. Ever since he went big Sturgill has kept his picking in the background but he’s a helluva player. Miles and Kevin are beyond solid as an anchor rhythm section. New keys player ain’t the same as Bobby but he’s damn good.
I want a co-headlining tour. Sturgill and Billy? Take my money
@@sj44kiehavik50 yes sir
Just destroyed a ladies brand new screen door I was trying to install, but came home to this. Thank you Stur...Mr. Johnny Blues!!
Could be worse. Some lady could have destroyed your screen door.
Shit happens, bro. All is good!
Some damn talented musicians.
I just fought bought a screen door instructions unclear lol, it stands no chance though
ironically Sturgill and the boys just destroyed a stage!
His drummer is working his ass off! Impressive standout drumming.
Miles Miller is the man
I agree!....we should all follow him....I feel lol
A instant classic performance. Every transition is flawless and flows like water down that old mountain creek
Sturgill is dressed like a 19 year old super senior, who is the president of the chess club, who also dabbles in marijuana and hallucinogens!
And I love him 😍
I was about to comment this. Nice work
That curl in his hair
I love the boyish quality and the hair jusr completes it. He's so damn cute! 😋
Nailed it
He'll walk by you and you'll never know he's a shining star
Damn, that is a lot of songs with basically no breaks. Band is in absolutely top notch form. Killer, killer set.
Was wondering even at 20mins in when they’d have a rest…legends don’t need it!!
Allman Brothers....first thing I thought..they rolled like that 👍
@@curtissteen6056 The Grateful Dead were known for it. He just played a show in Mexico with the surviving numbers. The math adds up. Sturgill draws from so many influences. An incredible modern artist.
Speaking as a metal guy - this band absolutely SHREDZ. Got'damn son!!
Sturgill has said "three of the five best live shows I've seen have been Tool"
As a person with ears you can tell this is good
As a Death metal / metal guy i think he's Fucking GREAT ..THE REAL DEAL .. Also got hooked on Jason Isbell AND BMFS as well !!!!
Going to see him in September it will be my first country concert then I’m going to high on fire the next week
@@danwhitehurst6293 fknA, i'd Love to see you go for the trifecta...
who else coming around ? CHEERs
This was so good I feel like I should have had to pay just to watch it on RUclips. Unreal musicians, every one of them.
FUCKING AWESOME 👌
STURGILL IS BACK BABY!!!
thats Johnny Blue Skies buddy.
Same guy johnny blueskies was a name so guy at a bar would call him
He never went away!
LFG @tooletime09!!!
Fuckin A man!!
In a world of watered down talent, Simpson and his band stand strong
Freaking unreal!!!! Thank you. I was lucky enough to play for a few years with Sturgill right before Sunday valley. Everything he does blows my mind but this was dope. This is our biggest dream come true. He is one of my best friends ever and he’s a great person I love him he’s hilarious and was cool af before any success.thank you for posting this professional quality video
Saw your name. You must be from Richmond or close by.
Super cool info. Bet you've got some stories! 😅 Thanks for this, and have a good day 🤙🏻
@@damonbaesler7340 lol, yeah I lived in Winchester in high school. I always thought it was hilarious the friends I made one day said , let’s go to the beach. I thought they meant Florida but they took me to boonesborough beach and I wouldn’t get in that water for anything lol. I hated using my name for my music so mixed that with how I used to feel like some of my songs I was writing sounded like the beach boys. I thought that name would be hilarious. I was so happy it kind of suck lmao
We were blessed to have Sturgill and the boys in SF. This set was the best at OSL in years
They need to do an official live album. As a rock fan who backed into Americana and Alt-Country...this meeting halfway between Sturgill and like My Morning Jacket or something...it's my favorite Sturgill.
The Bimbo’s show two nights earlier was filmed. It was a warm up gig for this fest.
I second the live album
May the cosmic turtle bless you always Sturgill, as you have blessed us.
I was here and it was absolutely incredible.
Me too. Froze our asses off (from AZ) but loved every bit of it!
Seriously!! Worth the wait of the weekend… and the frostbite
@@Strumbum01 I prob would have been in a vest sweating sheets lol (I'm from Ireland)
One of the best concerts in the history of live performances.
Best show is the next show. Enjoy this run
They are ripping heads
I love the enthusiasm
Sturgill & The Band went GOD MODE
Thay have to working in that Bizz.
Blast off!!!
It’s good to see Laur shredding with Sturgill again! He was underutilized in A Sailor’s Guide, so I see why he took off. But man it’s great to see the man who showed me you could rip up a telecaster just as good as any shredder guitar! Welcome back Laur! Please stay a while!
I thought he left because of citizenship and had to leave the country. But that could have been made up!
@@tdill033thats possible! I may be assuming a lot but when A Sailors Guide came out it was short on lead guitar and long on horns. Watching performances from that time, it looked like Laur was SUPER bored! 😂
@@tdill033he's been with my favorite band Drivin' n' Cryin' all this time.
Sturgill is an absolute master story teller through his music. I've never seen another artist so seamlessly transition from piece to piece, in concert or on his albums. It's unbelievable. I close my eyes and listen and there is this story created im my mind as I listen to his music. There is so much purpose in everything he does. Fucking love it!!!❤
Right on man. All the way to his be plays two tunes at once on his guitar. He's, absolutely amazing
I didn't think they were ever getting back together. Glad to see he has Laur Joamets with him. It's a miracle.
Amen to that! Lil Joe is just such the perfect fit! Such a talented gifted guitarist! All of them!
Bruh i shouted when i saw him!!!
This is what I thought... I feel like this is heaven.
Lars is back!!!
He said he wasn't going to tour under his name. He is Johnny Blue Skies his nickname giving to him by a guy at a bar
Sturgill should call it the "All Gas, No Brakes" tour because they held it to floor from the opening note and took fans on rock 'n roll journey! 🔥
I dig it
Love this!!! So so true!!!
Probably the best show I've seen live.
All Gas No Brakes id literally a song that just released by the band Bilmuri.
100%!!!! This set live was unreal
Drummers vocal harmonies are killer!
Miles Miller is the man
Miles has a solo album.
🎯 cheers
Absolutely! Talented dude.
Miles is steady climbing the drumming ranks.
The irreplaceable Miles Miller puttin in WORK! Thanks for this Stu. Been a big fan for a long time. Looking forward to the show.
Sturg and the boys taking the crowd to shredsville! absolute badassery! This set hits different. So glad to see you are back on top! Thank you!
This @8:45 is absolutely spectacular! More of this, please and thank you! Dancing in my living room & so happy that you shared this show.
It got me a little too excited
The Promise into Whiter Shade of Pale gives me chills.
Will go down in music history as one of the greatest live bands to ever play the game
GD this man is gold.
This is the best concert I've seen this year. Wish I had been there live but I'll settle for this video, which I can relive over and over!!
The transition from "The Promise" to A "Whiter Shade of Pale" is absolutely incredible... I cant get enough of watching it...
So we gonna play China Cat in the solo then later play Whiter Shade of Pale all the way through? Stugill is the best. He's like those of us from the south that grew up listening to everything. Allman Bros, Grateful Dead, Black Crowes...all of it.
There is nothing like seeing an artist live for the first time and being blown away.
Love it when it clicks and everything they do all of a sudden has a whole new dimension and sounds incredible when for some reason it fell short prior...
Seeing this lineup of musicians with Sturgill is really a special thing. I personally believe this lineup has produced some of his absolute best work for sure. So glad to see them all together again!
No auto tune that's a sign of a great artist
I could sit here and just click the like button all day!!! The best live performance I've seen in a long, long time. All these guys are talented beyond my imagination.
I teared up watching this. Thank you for saving music Sturgill 🥹🫡
Sound and fury is genuinely one of my favorite albums
So true. In my humble opinion I think it is his best. This new album is creepin' up fast though!
Ah man his early Buddhist psychedelic country music might take the cake for me
Sturgil and the boys, an American treasure.
Long live Sturgill Simpson! Long live Johnny Blue Skies!
The Man, The Myth, The Legend
That China Cat Sun Flower Riff was badass!
Laur Joamets was missed in this band!!! Miles drums are one of the best thing in music nowadays. And of course, the king, Sturgill is back.
Best guitar player he ever had
I was so glad to see this. Look up sturgill Simpson Bristol and that really shows off his chops. So tasteful
There will be nights that go on forever…like our wishes for this set!!!
Mr. Mitchell is one of the BEST live sound engineers, so glad to hear that sound applied to one of my favorite artists!👍🤙🖖
One day I'll be in a crowd like that enjoying real music like this, thank you for coming back mr. Sturgill
This is what I want for Sturgill. Heading in the right direction.
Miles is such a great drummer. So glad they are ripping it up like this.
Haven't seen or heard a set like that in a long time!! My face was melted!
They are killers, check out their Saturday night live performance they destroyed that place
You should have your face looked at.
@@highjenks3d Yeah best performance I have ever seen on SNL. besides when Prince tore the house down that time too. Sturgilll knocked Miles cymbal off its stand and they never missed a beat. It was awesome! I agree 💯
I absolutely love his new album. Back to front, top to bottom. It's my favorite of his so far.
Sturgills? The one with Paris influence that he recorded there? I've heard s few songs and liked them. Haven't listened to it front to back yet. Your comments remind me to go back and listen to it agdin. Been meaning to but completely forgot to until now. Tbhi. So. Thank you
Sooo good to see the four of you together on stage again + the keys. I’ve seriously been sobbing and gasping throughout the whole thing. Only thing missing is “Sometimes wine” played the ol’ Sunday Valley way.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This is so unbelievably good.
Probably not gonna be able to make it to any of the 2024 shows, so thanks for videos like these. Love it!!!
I live in a country where I couldn't even get on a wait list, last time COVID f'ed me with cancelled show...
This is magnificent, we are so fucking back
Love everything, but THANK YOU for playing some Sound and Fury!!
Incredible.... Love the rock style vibe... Also love hearing some Sound & Fury songs in the set as well. One of my favorite albums from you. 🤌🔥
You should make a live album of this set, just saying... 🤷♂️🔥🔥🔥🔥
100%
Loved the little homage to the Grateful Dead solo in the middle of Brace for Impact.
indeed, Chinacat Sunflower for Jerry birthday
that was a crunchy china cat
Same!!! Very cool! I feel like there’s some overcast of some Pink Floyd floating around as well! They are so damn good!!!
Sturgill your song Hero has been infinite help with my fiance's grief over the loss of his dad. Played over and over it still brings tears to his eyes every time. We saw you in Salem, OR, and before that I saw you with my mom in Portland. Now we can't wait to see you in Bend! Getting us hillbillies out to the city 😊 look out
Absolutely incredible. No breaks (or brakes) just bridges and BARS!!!
Cant get enough of listening to Sturgill's set.. Pure F'ing gold.. Cant wait to see them in Nov in DC!
I Don't Mind destroys me every single time. Love the new album. Buying tickets now to see him in Detroit.
My favorite lineup, right here!
Solid rhythm section, Miles adding some nice harmonies, and Laur absolutely crushes it! Thanks for bringing it back, Sturgill!
Who are these ace players? They are absolutely killing it!
who's the killer on lead guitar?
@@dimitrizgonis3767Laur Joamets
I loved it when he had the horn section. But this definitely a top notch group!
@@JeffCorceliusr player is an original member. He left for a few albums. Glad to see him back
I am thankful for this video. I'm boogieing my ass around the house, getting my shit done. 😂
That's gotta' be one of the best sounding live recordings I've ever heard. The stellar performance and mastery of the stage by Simpson and band takes it the rest of the way through the stratosphere. Bravo!
And the video is just great too!
How I wish happiness left scares too.- hot damn, right in the feels
LOVE Sturgill!!
Thank you for posting this. Please never take it down ♥️🙏🏼
This is an awesome show. The band sounds great! Great job Sound Engineer and everyone that was involved in this production. Much Love from New Orleans Everyone 💜💚💛
Little Joe is back! It’s great to see him playing with Sturgill again. What a lethal combination.
is he the lead geetarist? total lowkey tonemaster
@@sloburnjoyes and he has been playing with my favorite band Drivin' n' Cryin' after he left Sturgill.
Incredible performance. Band sounds soooo good!
What I needed when I needed it.
this setlist is epic !!
Some serious Thin Lizzy tone at 50:14 Unreal to see Laur back in the band!
He's been rocking with Drivin' n' Cryin' all these years after he left Sturgill. They rock hard and allowed him to stretch out...And we can hear the results are fantastic!
Thanks for posting this for us all!
I've watched HSB 18 close to a dozen times and it's one of the best shows I've seen online, but this lineup and performance tops it. I was glad to see those boys back in the band but was worried I'd miss buddy on the keys, but this man brought a gd saxophone ffs. I love that damn drummer and nothing makes me happier to know yall got Sturgill's back while yall out there blowing peoples minds every night. Thank you for sharing this!
Loving all of this, and then breaking into "Whiter Shade of Pale". Great show!!
Hell yes!! Thanks Sturgill, can't wait to sit back tonight and enjoy the show!! 🤙
Hell ya! nice YT handle!
@Momentum88 thanks, combo of 2 of my favs.
What a fucking beast of a band. Absolute monsters. Sturgill is the man.
A shot of adrenaline beginning to end. This is just on another level
Laur is a killer! Glad we have some good music back.
Holy shit this is amazing! Psychedelic country is amazing! This man brings it! Let that shit shine!
I can't stop listening, it's been on repeat for weeks now. I'm counting down to Lexington, 17 days baby- 17 days. 🥳
SO good!! Wish there were a couple of more songs from new album, but love the fact he's back out there touring again with this band!
Little Joe is home! Great to see Laur back in the lineup!
I adore this man. One of the best musicians alive, and his band is phenomenal.
I don't smoke cigarettes, but I feel like I need one after that.
A badassed artist, one of the best in recent decades.
That being said, not everyone would be welcome in my home. 👊🏻
I have wanted that for so long. Thank you, Sturgill.
I'm ready for a live version of Scooter Blues. Are you?
Maybe it's the salt water in my veins, or the nitrogen bubbles in my brain, but I've taken a real shine to some Johnny Blue Skies! Killing it!
Who ever said rock is dead these boys are kickin ass and taking names eh!
This feels like a reinvention of southern rock. Incredible performance!
Great musicians all the down to this drummer!
Peak Performance! The one! The only! Sturgill Simpson! See you next time around in Germany!♥️
oh hell yeah brother
This as a live album please.
This gives me great joy
