I'm a 60 year old rock and roll guitarist by nature and have no desire to listen to country music. The other day I heard Tyler on my truck radio while skipping across country stations searching for rock and roll and his voice stopped me instantly. I found myself searching for this fella on the internet and now here I am posting this. Tyer has his own genre of music as far as I am concerned and God placed him on this Earth to make us all listen. His lyrics take you for a ride, thank you Mr. Childers...

Tyler childers turned his back on the community that he sang about by siding with blm on the breonna taylor narrative. But the truth is they were drug dealers. You can't sing about the horrors of coal countries relationship with meth but then raise money in the name of the drug dealers pushing meth and other drugs in the same community. "long violent history" my ass, pandering to the left just the same way sturgill simpson did. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I love music to the deepest depth of my soul but I don't listen to tylers music anymore. Let's hope billy strings is smarter than that but since he loves to sing about dmt and meth too he probably will end up doing the same .

"I wouldn't act so angry all the time, I wouldn't keep it all inside, and I'd let you know how much I loved you everyday." Ugh, I probably would have cut off a limb to hear that from someone I loved so much, after he came back from Iraq. But I guess that part of him just died over there, and we became too broken to fix, after more than 18 years together. Tyler's lyrics kinda rip my guts out, they apply to so many parts of my life, but I seem to love the pain, can't get enough.

Everyone gets a ticket there sooner or later. I even had a friend who was sleepy and pulled off at McDonalds there to take a nap. Barney decided he was a drug addict and needed to search his car. What a waste of time. My friend was told to make those wheels turn and get out of town. Milton just ain't big enough to be called a town. A town would be big enough for Barney Fife's ego. Great music, Tyler.

I grew up about as far north as you can get and still be in the USA (with the exception of Alaska, I guess) and not had given country music much thought for most of my life. After college, I was stationed at a few of Army bases in NC, TX, and KY, but the only foray I made into country music was a little bit of blue grass here and there (courtesy of Old Crow Medicine Show) and some old Johnny Cash as a nod to my late grandfather. Then one day, a couple of years after getting out, I was sitting in a barber chair in Louisville and heard one of the best written and record songs I have ever come across. I fumbled for my phone to use shazam before it finished. It was 'Feathered Indians' and from that moment on I gained a new appreciation for what county music could be. Years later, I am back in my hometown in the Pacific Northwest and I still listed to Tyler and other contemporary country musicians who write real lyrics about real struggles, in honest soulful voices, utilizing traditional and acoustic sounds... there is something about that sound which bring me back to the beautiful landscapes of Kentucky and North Carolina... and that's something I will always appreciate.

donovan preston yeah, and to make things worse, the pedal steel and the violin are fighting each other the whole show. Only one fretless instrument onstage at a time generally, and if there’s two, they both have to be properly intonnated and know exactly what they’re doing. I think he was experimenting with his band at this point in his career. Because the pedal steel player is all over the place, ESPECIALLY in Feathered Indians. He made a mistake in the very first chorus and had to put it in there every time to make it look purposeful. Clearly threw him off, because for the rest of the song, he was totally off-put.
His current band iteration doesn’t improvise and it’s a lot tighter.

Cici Bradley you’re totally right. I was mistaken on his current band’s iteration. Jesse improvises every single night on the road. He’s become one of my favorite guitar players, honestly. James and Jesse play off each other so well. James has improved on the steel a great deal. I bought a pedal steel not long after making my original comment here. His playing made me finally pull the trigger on one. There’s a fantastic video of TC at Americanafest on RUclips, in case you haven’t seen it. One of the highest quality recordings of a live show I’ve ever seen. And everyone was having an on-night like crazy. Good shit. Can’t wait to catch them on the road this year.

I totally agree...much prefer his stuff solo.
But having said that, there's a live version of Whitehouse Road on his Y.T. page (with "the food stamps") that's VERY well produced (visually and sound quality).
I can't even believe I'm saying this, but I have to admit this particular performance of Whitehouse Road has me giving (it) and (either) of his solo versions equal praise.
There's some kinda Allman Brothers magic happening there.
The video starts out focusing on Tyler with a soft light shining down on his face and a wild look in his eyes (😉)' and he just absolutely NAILS it! The band sounds great (not at all like the way, way over produced album version), with every instrument clear and clean. The steel guitar in this vid really helps with the Allman Brothers feel.
In that video there's a cool yin-yang (?) kinda thing going on, with the band doing solid, upbeat, "feel good" music, but at the same time Tyler's singing from a hard and dark place....it's awesome.
