I went to Paintsville HS with Tyler and he was a close friend. You could tell his talents were special back then. Always was, and from what I hear, he continues to be, a very humble guy!
I'm from the other end of the state, down by the Mississippi River. I'm so proud to hear Tyler and Sturgill on the air, and really happy to see something positive coming out of Kentucky.
@@icyscenic6783 Are you talking about Tony? Anthony Bradenburg? From Kentucky? He was indicted 2019 for drug dealing in Louisville KY ( Jefferson County)?? Just a question? Does he have a shaved head and a long goatee? 🤔
Tyler Childers is a God sent to country music. The way he loves Appalachia culture and history is in every song, just as his desire to push forward in creating something new and original. Meeting Sturgill set a bomb off for this scene. Tyler and Sturgill really saved Country music. I couldn’t applaud and praise them more!
I'm from the Ozarks. When I heard Run These Roads it hit me smack in the heart nerve. I know tons of guys exactly like the song describes. These hills, and poverty, create certain circumstances for young men and it can be so heartbreakingly bleak. While at the same time, I recall most people like that with respect and fondness. In general, it's refreshing to watch an artist grow and develop the way they want, instead of the way the studio directs. True art.
It's actually true for many rural areas. I was immediately taken back to my 20s in southern Iowa. I relate, pot and whiskey. Didn't know where I was going, just racing down the backroads.
I just saw Tyler on Saturday at Willie Nelson’s birthday concert in Hollywood. He brought the fucking house down with his voice. He’s a special talent.
I’m and immigrant and a NYC girl all my life. Yet I’ve always liked Appalachian sound. A sound that feels so originally American. And Tyler Childers has just infatuated me. Beautiful lyrics. Beautiful songs. I think he will definitely bring attention to this music from people that aren’t the typical listener
Interestingly, some of the sound is contributed to Irish folk songs, as a vast number of the people on early Appalachia were Irish immigrants. Listen to the music on some dubliners or wolf tones songs you can kinda see the similarity.
2019 was my senior year of Highschool, and being a troublemaker I had gotten grounded just before my parents left for the weekend. Low and behold my buddy comes and breaks me out and we headed to Orlando with $50 and hope for a good time. Stumbled across Tyler playing at some tiny venue, got $20 vip tickets and one hell of a story
I used to work at Willies locally known . Me and Tyler used to take shots together . We loved him at Willies . He was part of the place . Can’t wait to see him again now that he’s went big time . I live in Los Angeles now so I plan to see him when he comes here . Last year I was driving home in hollywood and I looked up and seen a huge billboard of Tyler on it and it made me cry . Aaron. Did you find Two Step Inn to be a crowd that was not as appreciative of Tyler as we are or was it just the crowd we got stuck in? I will difinaltely be seeking tickets to see him again at a different type of venue. Not a festival.
I found Tyler Childers music by accident, just a few short months ago, through listening to Colter Wall. Colter's song "Fraulein" with Tyler Childers made me look him up after hearing his voice. I listened to Feathered Indians and kind of knew it from the radio, and started listening to the rest. I found the song "Coal" and it almost instantly hooked me. My family is from southern West Virginia, both of my grandfathers were career coalminers along with a lot of my family. I never got to live in Appalachia because my father joined the military to give his children a better life than he had, and I thank God for that every day. I do wish I got to experience living there full-time instead of just 1 or 2 weekends a month. The music he played sounded like the music I heard in the holler there and it really grabbed me. Music that reminds me so much of my childhood, my family history, and actually pays a little homage to the thankless career my family killed themselves doing to keep this country running? I was in. I dove in completely and listened to nothing BUT Tyler for about two months, specifically Purgatory, Live at Red Barn Radio, and Country Squire. He was coming to play a concert in my town a few weeks ago, and I had no idea who he was in time to get tickets for it. Then he released the "In Your Love" music video that caused some backlash, and I was able to get two tickets for presale price about 3 weeks before the concert from some unfortunate people that didn't want to go anymore (SCORE.) In my concert prep I started listening to "Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven" in order to know some of the songs he was touring for. I haven't been to church in years, and I lost a lot of my religion through my line of work. I don't consider myself atheist, but I don't have much of a belief anymore. That concert grabbed me by the throat when he began singing "Angel Band." I had my hands in the air and felt the Lord like I hadn't in years. There is NOBODY that sings the way this man does, and can project the spirit the way he does. All of his music has been burning a hole in my radio still, even after the concert. I've never enjoyed an artist the same way I've enjoyed Tyler's music and I can't wait to see him again. Something about it just makes my mountain blood run warm, and makes me feel so good. Thank you for the cool documentary, and sorry for my entire life story. Just wanted to share mine with how much his music has touched me.
Saw Tyler at the Greek Theatre on the UC Berkeley campus tonight. Incredible show. I can't get over how authentic and revelatory his voice comes across. He let his band COOK, rare to see an artist showcase his sidemen like that. He's a great guy with a huge heart and I could tell he's still a lil surprised at how loved he is.
His music is so real and pure. having grown up in church and in a big family surrounded with bluegrass, gospel and old time country music, Tyler's music really speaks to my soul and restores my faith in music generally
Greenup County Kentucky I was raised up, jus a few ridges over from Tyler so I swell up in the chest with pride when I hear him and his underrated band. Childers writing, along with his unmistakable voice is one that’ll be listened to for generations.
I don’t know if this will ever reach Tyler but I want him to know just how much my sons and I love his music … I lost my oldest son Randy to veterans suicide Feb this year 2023 him and his little brother had bought tickets last year to see him at the Red mile Lexington Ky Randy passed before he had a chance to see him in concert Randy got me listening to him a few years ago … as Randy was goin through tuff times in his life he’d call his momma we would talk for hours at night every night sometimes we wouldn’t say a word just listen to his music …. Just to add to the discussion on Tyler’s expressed interest in Christianity, his music also demonstrates a curiosity across religious doctrines. Universal sound appears to make references to Buddhist beliefs and practices whilst his most recent album also features Hindu inspirations. Can I take my hounds to heaven (jubilee) seems to be a direct quote from Mahabharata. It would be interesting if one day someone could ask Tyler about all this
I love Tyler Childers I’ve been listening to him as long as I can remember. I have a memory where I’m sitting in my dad’s old ford truck driving around listening to feathered Indians. I love that memory.
I’d love to see Tyler’s lineage. I’m Irish decent, via both Barbados and Ellis Island quick migration towards Appalachian chain. They ‘met in the middle’. I hear so much Celtic influence as that base undercurrent that grabs my Irish ☘️ heart ♥️
Fellow ross county native. Good to hear you made it out! I remember hearing country squire and his mention of Chillicothe and Circleville. Blew me away. Keep up the good work. You have my subscribe.
I like his music so much because he has relation to how I grew up, and he speaks about the lord in his songs, being in a old time church like I go to, hearing what the gospel is, knowing when someone gets ahold of the lord, you can hear it in his songs. I’m glad to know that Tyler Childers is a saved man, I wish everyone would get saved, I believe it can happen.
Best artist all around for me ! just found him few weeks ago, and cant stop listening. I like all of his songs.. Would like too hear more Gospel songs sometime..
I came across his music around 2014 and have listened to him ever since. He has amazing voice. When I'm listening to his music it puts me back in West Virginia from as a kid going with the neighbors after church on Sunday to someone's house with bluegrass players on the porch us kids running around and the women setting a huge table in the yard. To my teen years and addiction. Some good and bad memories. But they all got me to where I am now. One of my favorite songs is universal sound.
I am from Monticello Kentucky where the sgt was killed I was raised swimming at mill spring and always walking down to the big cannon at the lake I never knew this till now and I know everyone of Tyler Childers songs to a T.
My daughter and I discovered him on yt around 2017. In Sept '22 we drove from Kalamazoo to Louisa to hear him headline the Lawrence county music fest. He is fantastic!!
Knockemstiff Ohio comin at ya live. Love country squire, tyler has yet to release a song I don’t love. Man’s got raw talent that’s been nothing but refined as the years go by.
Tyler Childers is like no other. A legend in the making. I believe his music has the power to heal this country. I’m overcome with emotion everytime I hear a song. I grew up in Ohio and Kentucky Then become one of the coastal elites I saw Portland torn to pieces in 2020 And ran off to Mexico My heart couldn’t take the hate Now I just wanna go home
Only took that solo vinyl session to get me interested. His music has depth. Especially since I frequent his home areas. Also agree on Chillicothe smell.
@@thewesternsideCircleville resident here. I dont know if youre aware of his story of playing with Colter Wall at Tootles but I'd love to talk to you about it. I just saw him play at Stagecoach on the weekend and it was like a dream come true!! his voice is like seeing the ocean for the first time, overwhelmingly beautiful!!
This man's music just speaks so deeply to my soul. I have always loved Appalachian music but when I found Tyler Childers I found myself. So many things to love but the gospel style songs changed my life, Way of the Triune God felt like the song I had looked for my entire life and defines so much of my own walk with Jesus. When I first heard Space and Time, it felt like a song from the future that had came back in time to help me through the present. Seeing him live is literally the only thing on my bucket list even as listening to recordings is always a spiritual experience for me. His music comprises at least 25% of all my playlists and I NEVER fail to stop and tune my brain in no matter how many times I hear him every day.
I freaking loved Tyler in the beginning. Not so much anymore. Something changed. In him and then in his music. I do not like his newest stuff and I really wanted to be a most loyal fan.
I’m just getting into country again and Tyler has been my favorite artist right up with Zach Bryan & Chris Stapleton. Thanks for the great work you’ve put into the video to give an outline for those who didn’t know (myself)!
Love, love, love his music, it is so wonderful to hear Appalachian dialect because it is fading in our region. I live in SW Virginia and his voice sounds like home !
I worked with a guy from West Virginia. He was a coal miner from a small town and would work part-time in restaurants to make extra money. He was also in a small band and played bars and honky tonks and he turned me on to Tyler Childers before he was famous. He told me how they were friends and would play together sometimes. He told me how Tyler is the real deal and he worked his way up. Playing local shows small bars and honky tonks making the rounds each time drawing a larger and larger crowd. It was really inspiring to hear.
Was at Willie Nelson's 50th 4th of July celebration. Childers played before Willie. I had not heard of him, don't listen to country music much. But he and band were terrific! I enjoyed the range of talent. I especially enjoyed Tyler's gift for singing his heart out. I appreciate any musician, singer, songwriter for sharing their gift. Great music, good memories. I'll be listening to more Childers
@@joeyricefried9621 I think he's just going through some shit right now, getting sober and all. Not as big of a fan of his newest album, though I haven't listened to the whole thing yet. He might just be trying out different types of music. Maybe he'll get back to his earlier sound again after a little bit of time. His new album still sounds great and is not bad, it's just more of a gospel album and different to his older sound.
I like all his music. I have been listening and a fan for over three years now. I own most of his work and hope to continue as long as he continues his music.
Took my 13 yr old (who loves Tyler's music) to his concert in MN 2023 as his Christmas Gift. It was the best concert I have ever been too and gave me a higher appreciation for him and his music!! His music just sucks you in. He is an amazing and different music artist and I am so glad I got to experience that concert with my son!! His music in person is so much better than recorded.
You did an awesome job with this video and telling of the story. Thank you! I was a casual listener of Tyler for a few years until recently I really decided to dig in. Can I take my hounds to heaven is a phenomenal album front to back. I am trying to see him live this summer in Saratoga. Again, great video and thank you!
Love the Chillicothe shoutout, grew up in Jackson County just down the road. Saw him play the Pike County Fair and he played country squire about a year before his new album released!
Great job on this video! I don't listen to country music at all, but Nose on the Grindstone popped up in my amazon music playlist one day, and I was instantly hooked. Something about his voice just keeps me listening. He definitely has become one of my favorite artists.
This was excellent, learned some new nuggets about Tyler I wasn’t aware of. He’s my favorite artist now and it took him no time to get there, he’s just so good.
My step dad introduced me to Tyler Childers, had his ringtone as feathered Indians when I first met him. He stayed with the popular songs from Tyler but I dug down and explored his discography getting more into country music and now making it. Love that guy.
He's really very special. He really is. Those first 2 albums have been really powerful to me and will stay with me. The pain and heartbreak and alcoholism.. You do not wish on anyone, but my god.. That era was so fricking deep and moving, relatable. Amazing. Im also from Lawrence county. So, there's another level there too. Cant wait to see him in Boulder in September
I’m able to have the Honor to see Tyler in concert in 2024. I caught the wave after his EPs with Red Barn. Man, this dude has only put out good music. He probably lives a good life doing exactly what he loves and deserves 😎
This was so well done. Learned a lot. He’s from my neck of the woods. Just saw him a couple of nights ago for his release of Rustin’ In The Rain. Amazing live!
Josh Morningstar, Cody jinks, colter wall, sturgill Simpson, billy strings, Ryan Bingham, Gethen Jenkins, James Carothers, Hank III, Brent Cobb would be some other suggestions
This was really well put together man. A casual fan will become more than that and a more-than-that fan (myself included) can definitely appreciate the care and time you took to bring this timeline to life. Well done.
Favorite, Red Barn Radio I & II. Then Purgatory, then Bottles and Bibles. I like the less produced, faster beat, or haunting of solo guitar and voice only. It's hard to beat just Tyler himself.
(Made it to Purgatory) I never was much of a country fan growing up. Mainly a city boy if you will. Started dating a country girl, starting listening to country. A while later, we ran into some problems. Discovered Tyler, Lady May was the first song I ever heard from him. Now I’m the present, we have broken up. We have a child, we both suffer from problems and issues. Tyler has been a shining light for anytime I need a song to get me through it, cry it out, whatever you have it. His songs are so relatable to me that he’s one of my inspirations to pick up guitar and I plan on learning a lot of his songs
Amazing output frlm this kid. It makes me happy watching him put his mark on American music history. I saw it coming. The first yimd I heard him, lightening struck. I told my friends he would be a household name soon.
Rock Salt and Nails, Nose On The Grindstone, Hard Times, Bottles and Bibles, Messed Up Kid, Banded Clovis All Your'n and follow You To Virgie. These songs will always be my favorites.
“ and if the lord wants to take me I’m here for the takin, cuz hells prolly better than trying to get by” That was the one line that always shook me. Just the lowest of the low
I am 67 year old white female from NE TN. Love his sound . My 28 year old biracial grandson was listening to him a couple of years ago and I asked who he was listening to. I have love Tyler ever since.
Loved Tyler when he first hit the scene, but the latest album is painfully overproduced and political. I miss the raw sound and songs about genuine life. He was relatable. I don't get that anymore.

I’m glad to know that Tyler Childers is a saved man, I wish everyone would get saved, I believe it can happen.
I’m happy I found this channel pre 1K subs.
I see big things coming to you if you continue making such high quality content.
That means a lot dude thanks so much 🙏
Best artist all around for me ! just found him few weeks ago, and cant stop listening. I like all of his songs.. Would like too hear more Gospel songs sometime..
Not a country guy but I’m hooked on Tyler ,he is an exceptional talent and makes incredible music
In a time of Pop/Bro/Hip Hop/Country.......there was Tyler fighting to keep the roots in the ground.
That’s such an awesome story!! Thanks for taking the time to watch!
Knockemstiff Ohio comin at ya live. Love country squire, tyler has yet to release a song I don’t love. Man’s got raw talent that’s been nothing but refined as the years go by.
Aye thanks for stopping by! I totally agree 🤘🏼
Tyler’s got the best music, I made a playlist with all his song and I just press play and listen.
Tyler Childers is like no other. A legend in the making. I believe his music has the power to heal this country. I’m overcome with emotion everytime I hear a song.
I grew up in Ohio and Kentucky
Then become one of the coastal elites
I saw Portland torn to pieces in 2020
And ran off to Mexico
My heart couldn’t take the hate
Now I just wanna go home
I m from NE TN and I love his voice and his sound. So original and fresh. Keep doing your thing Tyler.
Adore this guy. Only seen him once in 2019 & I’ll never forget it. He’s blown up since then- hope I can catch him again one day
Only took that solo vinyl session to get me interested. His music has depth. Especially since I frequent his home areas. Also agree on Chillicothe smell.
Totally agree!!
@@thewesternsideCircleville resident here. I dont know if youre aware of his story of playing with Colter Wall at Tootles but I'd love to talk to you about it. A close friend's daughter is the best friend of Senora and they stay at his house any time they come to Chili/Cville area. I've heard some legendary stories!
I just saw him play at Stagecoach on the weekend and it was like a dream come true!! his voice is like seeing the ocean for the first time, overwhelmingly beautiful!!
Me too it was amazing!!everyone was singing along word for word in perfect sink. It was the best performance of the weekend!
Jealous!!!
This is awesome historical/musical context. Thank you. Big TC fan! Loved hearing the story.
Thank you Michael! Love history and TC so I had to fuse them together 😂
I found Tyler Childers is 2017. Been a monster fan ever since. Turned into one of my all time favorite artist.
That’s sweet dude! Thanks for watching
I’m just getting into country again and Tyler has been my favorite artist right up with Zach Bryan & Chris Stapleton. Thanks for the great work you’ve put into the video to give an outline for those who didn’t know (myself)!
This is amazing. Thank you so much.
Thank you Eric! That means a lot 🙏
Love, love, love his music, it is so wonderful to hear Appalachian dialect because it is fading in our region. I live in SW Virginia and his voice sounds like home !
I'm down in SWVA too 🥰 He definitely sounds like home
I worked with a guy from West Virginia. He was a coal miner from a small town and would work part-time in restaurants to make extra money.
He was also in a small band and played bars and honky tonks and he turned me on to Tyler Childers before he was famous. He told me how they were friends and would play together sometimes. He told me how Tyler is the real deal and he worked his way up. Playing local shows small bars and honky tonks making the rounds each time drawing a larger and larger crowd.
It was really inspiring to hear.
Excellent video. Thank you!
Thank you so much!! 🙂
Angel Band is one of the BEST songs I've ever heard and gives me chills every time I listen to it
My wife and I danced to Lady May for our wedding dance.
That’s so great. I was the best man of my friends wedding and him and his wife did too!
I hope the Industry doesn' t change him too much- Tyler is a rare talent
Already has. He spent 2020 SIMPing for BLM
They already did.
@@joeyricefried9621 exactly!! I don't even listen anymore..
Lol. I must’ve made someone mad. My comments have almost all been deleted. They can’t handle the truth. I hear the sheep bleating louder in my ear
I live just the next county over from Tyler and every song he sings hits home for me. When your raised in these woods, there's just an unspoken bond.
For we older folk, a "Country Squire" is a massive Ford station wagon.
When I was doing research for the video I came across that too! Thanks for watching!
@@thewesternside I've listened to Tyler for awhile and always assumed he was singing about living in a station wagon until I saw your video 😆
@@barryoconnor721 Hahahaha that's awesome
Love the Chillicothe shoutout, grew up in Jackson County just down the road. Saw him play the Pike County Fair and he played country squire about a year before his new album released!
Great job on this video! I don't listen to country music at all, but Nose on the Grindstone popped up in my amazon music playlist one day, and I was instantly hooked. Something about his voice just keeps me listening. He definitely has become one of my favorite artists.
That’s so amazing! Thanks for watching!
This was excellent, learned some new nuggets about Tyler I wasn’t aware of. He’s my favorite artist now and it took him no time to get there, he’s just so good.
Thank you! It means a lot!
My step dad introduced me to Tyler Childers, had his ringtone as feathered Indians when I first met him. He stayed with the popular songs from Tyler but I dug down and explored his discography getting more into country music and now making it. Love that guy.
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!!
Just left his concert in Va Beach. Wow I'm still in awe. Loved it. Thank you for this tidbit on Tyler.
Still have yet to see him but I will one day!! Have fun!
I love Tyler Childers music. It’s actually really cool stuff. Thanks for making this video. I loved the stories. 😊
This was so well done. Learned a lot. He’s from my neck of the woods. Just saw him a couple of nights ago for his release of Rustin’ In The Rain. Amazing live!
Thanks so much! And that’s so cool!
Just saw him in Missoula, Montana and it was an amazing experience!
Quality stuff. Keep it up 👍🏻
Thank you! Will do, and thanks for watching!
Josh Morningstar, Cody jinks, colter wall, sturgill Simpson, billy strings, Ryan Bingham, Gethen Jenkins, James Carothers, Hank III, Brent Cobb would be some other suggestions
@@JCHIZ03 Yes I really want to do one of those you mentioned in particular next. Those are such great artists
From the first time hearing “Hard Times”….I was Hooked! 🇨🇦
Great video, off the chain singer! What a great voice. Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much for watching!
Love you Tyler, you inspire me so much. All the way from India❤️
This was really well put together man. A casual fan will become more than that and a more-than-that fan (myself included) can definitely appreciate the care and time you took to bring this timeline to life. Well done.
I really appreciate that. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!
Favorite, Red Barn Radio I & II. Then Purgatory, then Bottles and Bibles. I like the less produced, faster beat, or haunting of solo guitar and voice only. It's hard to beat just Tyler himself.
Hes one of a kind when he’s just acoustic that’s for sure
Tyler has a voice you don't hear everyday, I love his music
I love every era. Saw him at The Catbird Music Fest. Now I’m obsessed.
Heck yeah!
Happened onto Tylor a couple years back and shared him with some of my friends and family
Gotta get the word of good music out there!
I love Tyler so much
(Made it to Purgatory)
I never was much of a country fan growing up.
I'm going to Red Rock in late September, to see him.
I'm from he UK, so it's not cheap, but it's red rock. Should be a great week in Denver. 😊
His Voice Is Something Else ❤
Amazing output frlm this kid. It makes me happy watching him put his mark on American music history. I saw it coming. The first yimd I heard him, lightening struck. I told my friends he would be a household name soon.
Yessir! Thanks for watching!
Long violent history and creeker are 2 of my faves.
Nice! Those are definitely great picks
Rock Salt and Nails, Nose On The Grindstone, Hard Times, Bottles and Bibles, Messed Up Kid, Banded Clovis All Your'n and follow You To Virgie. These songs will always be my favorites.
“ and if the lord wants to take me I’m here for the takin, cuz hells prolly better than trying to get by”
That was the one line that always shook me. Just the lowest of the low
What a talented a sweet young man. Carry on Tyler you will go far. 😁
I am 67 year old white female from NE TN. Love his sound . My 28 year old biracial grandson was listening to him a couple of years ago and I asked who he was listening to. I have love Tyler ever since.
God bless this man, love his voice the talent in music he can fellowship with, with other musicians.
I’m going to see Tyler headline the Railbird Festival in June in Lexington Ky. Can not wait!
Heck yeah!! 🤘🏼
Been listening to Tyler since discovering Purgatory. Much love from New Zealand
Loved Tyler when he first hit the scene, but the latest album is painfully overproduced and political. I miss the raw sound and songs about genuine life. He was relatable. I don't get that anymore.
This is spot on
Have you seen his cover of space and time, absolutely AMAZING!! Great Chanel by the way.
I have!! Thank you for the compliment!
Thank you. His last album is a masterwork.
Thank you for taking the time to watch. Means a lot!
Great job. Purgatory is a masterpiece 🤌🏻
