50TH ANNIVERSARY OF PINK FLOYD‘S ‘THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON’. OUT MARCH 24
Announcing the release of Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ as a deluxe box set to celebrate 50 years since the release of one of the best-selling albums of all time. Newly remastered, the box set will be released on 24th March 2023.
One of the most iconic and influential albums ever, Pink Floyd’s ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ continues to find new audiences globally. The album was partly developed during live performances, and the band premiered an early version of the suite at London’s Rainbow Theatre several months before recording began. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ is the eighth studio album by Pink Floyd, originally released in the US on 1 March and then in the UK on 16th March 1973. The new material was recorded in 1972 and 1973 at EMI Studios (now Abbey Road studios) in London. The iconic sleeve, which depicts a prism spectrum, was designed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis and drawn by George Hardie. ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon’ has sold over 50 million copies worldwide.
The new deluxe box set includes CD and gatefold vinyl of the new 2023 remastered studio album and Blu-Ray + DVD audio featuring the original 5.1 mix and remastered stereo versions. The set also includes additional new Blu-ray disc of Atmos mix plus CD and LP of ‘The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974’. For full details see listing below.

@Mark Petersen Well done youngster. Finding proper music in amongst the crap we're surrounded with these days can be difficult. I hope this comes to mean as much to you as does for a couple of generations before you. I knew my kids were growing up well when they started listening to PF......and now their own kids are listening to it too.

      Hi
      I READ THIS MY FRIEND!
IN MY OPINION, YOU ARE AN ASSET TO YOUR PEERS ABD FAR AHEAD OF OTHERS IN YOUR GENERATION!
Don’t let it get you down too much. Others may not recognize it now, but the will later (probably after you get out of your teens)
      Stay strong (and independent)

I am 66 and go to the local Senior Center every day. Nobody knows about this wonder. My close in age siblings passed from ALS. My husband was born in 1972 and loves Ozzy but never heard this album through. I am lonely with this wonderful memory. This album is quite profound, especially to the suffering.

I'm 53 and started really listening to Floyd around your same age because the Wall was super popular at the time. You will find as you get older the meaning to this album changes for you. It will also get you though some of the hard times of you life. Good luck and Cheers to your journey my friend.

At last an official version on RUclips with no interruptions between songs, this is the proper way to listen to this masterpiece.
Edit: Reading some of the comments saying that listening to it on youtube is not the proper way, I want to clarify that I have it on vinyl and I have a great turntable and audio equipment. For me that's the best way to listen to it... but what I meant is that it should be listened to without interruptions.

I bet no one will even read this, but this album means so incredibly much to me. I listened to this contantly during 2017, a very transitional peroid in my life. I was lonely, not happy at all, but somehow still hopeful... At the time of writing this, ca 7 years later, I'm genuinely content with my life. I'm not entirely sure it has anthing to do with this album, but somehow I attribute my current situation partly to the impact this album had on me during that difficult time. Thank you for reading :)

I know, one of the first thing I noticed when listening to this album in the seventh grade ... I was lucky to borrow a magnetic tape with a fifth or sixth copy on it just for a week ... Unfortunately, I could not duplicate it at that time, not only because the quality on the next copy would further degrade, but I just did not have another tape recorder anywhere near (heavy reel-like Soviet-made). On the black market an album like this would cost 70-80 rubles (The Wall up to 150 rubles), while my parents made 140-220 rubles/month each ...

In 1973, my neighbor came running across the street and started beating on my window, he said you have got to come hear this...he had an incredible sound system in his room, we darkened the room, one of the greatest and timeless musical experiences I've ever had...this album defies to be tied to any musical decade..

    • @ikigai47
      @ikigai47 6 месяцев назад +40

That's hilarious. I totally get what you're saying. You're saying this album is the epitome of timeless, and I 100% agree. But at the same time it's easy for me to tie this to a decade. Early 1970s at its finest. It just happens to also be the greatest album of all time. This album is the biggest reason why, for me the greatest era of music was the 60s/70s even though it's slightly before my time and I didn't get to experience the vibe first hand, in real time like you did. The 80s were the most eclectic across the board (from Slayer to Duran Duran), creative and experimental with new music tech, the 90s were an amazing back to basics, less flash more substance time, and then we started falling off with the advent of the internet. Enter the "music should be free" crowd killing the dreams and incentive of countless, actually talented musicians, and replace them with soul-less mouse and keyboard warriors ready to click their way into being a talent, no talent required. Can't sing? NO PROBLEM! Auto-tune. Can't play an instrument? NO PROBLEM! Hit ctrl+I for instrument, then clicky click you're Beethoven! 😂

My Dad passed away on Wednesday February 1, 2023. He was a huge Pink Floyd fan. He had amazing taste in music. From a very young age, I can remember waking up to him playing this album from his bedroom, and then as I got ready for school.
I will miss you SO MUCH Pop. My heart is broken. I miss my morning phone call from you...especially your "My son!" after I said hello. You're no longer in pain or suffering. I love you Papasito. Thank you for EVERYTHING!

My dad’s favorite band was Pink Floyd. He passed away about 3 weeks ago. I grew up with the best taste in music thanks to my Daddio. His favorite song was Comfortably Numb, but his favorite lyric was from Time and it says “And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it’s sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.” When I turned my dad’s car on for the first time after he passed… guess what the first words I heard out of the speaker were? Exactly those lyrics!! My dad has been sending me so many signs since his passing and most of them involve Pink Floyd. I know he’s rockin’ out in heaven right now. Until I meet you there, Daddio. “And then one day you find
Ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run
    You missed the starting gun”
This became like a mantra to me. It got me out of the place I was and to what I have become - a better man.

Not only is it the greatest album of all time, but it is the most perfectly crafted album. Having topics and messages that ring truer than ever. 1973, had a new yellow VW Sports Bug, two of my best friends with me and we headed out from New Mexico on a HS graduation trip. Picked up the younger brother of one of my friends in Jacksonville Florida.
The night before we left for Connecticut, the younger brother snagged a bag of weed (that was amazing) and he had bought this new 8 track for the trip.
Remember listening to this 8 track, totally stoned, for the 1-1/2 to 2 day trip it took us to get to Connecticut, and then some.
    Those were the days.

I was in my last year in High School when I got this album here in South Africa and still enjoy this good shit. I'm 68 now and still love listening to it when I go for a ride on my 600 Honda thumper down the east coast of South Africa. Our winters are like most countries' summer. Pink Floyd is awesome.....

A small room-sized computer could create absolutely any sound back in the 60s already, and their interfaces were alright. Hence yr feeling of freshness

Who Isn’t listening in 2024. I saw this concert in Seattle when the album first came out and has always been one of my favorites. The huge Plane coming from the back of the auditorium all the way to the huge Tom Tom behind the band anyone who was there will never forget it. You should be listening to this album.!!!

This was my late husband's favourite album of all time. We played some Pink Floyd at his funeral. Hope you can still hear this darling. Also, 'Wish you were hear', ofcourse.

Sweet. I'm sure "darling" heard you. I joke with friends that they are going to be forced to sit through the entire album, passing j's at my funeral.

For a 50 year old album, it's still as great as when it was released all those years ago. This album truly is one of a kind and will remain a stamp, no engraving in music history. This album will never die.
