It cracked somehow and the only reason I knew it is because I went through the car wash. Still got it to crank up and go home. I run the hell out of that thing. Had 3klbs of stone it, towed 9k lbs a few times and towed 5 a lot. Took it in the woods and pulled out logs and trees for fire wood, stacked wood and coal like crazy in it. Just kept going. First of all...GREAT review by you both. Honest and straight forward. Thank you!
    I've been a GM truck fan for years..having a 1999.5, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2013 and a 2017. Throw in a 2016 F-150 platinum that I bought new. When GM ended its 3rd generation truck..the problems started mounting with faulty transmissions, electrical problems and a rough ride. My 2013 GMC Sierra was the best by far compared to the competition at that time. The F-150 was plagued by numerous recalls..and I just didnt have the time or energy to constantly bring it in for all these issues. The straw that broke the camel's back was the Adaptive Cruise feature. The sensors in the bumper would catch refections from box trucks, overhead regulatory signs..and the brakes would just SLAM on. Great feeling when you are in highway traffic and the ABS activates and the truck comes to a total stop. The dealer wouldnt fix unless they could duplicate. That would be a pretty dangerous diagnosis if the tech had to duplicate what happened to me. Just 2 or 3 months ago...I found a gently used 2019 Ram Rebel with only 20K miles. The exterior and interior styling just spoke to me. When I test drove it..the comfort was FAR superior to any GM or Ford I've EVER driven. The interior was absolutely stunning. I've always had higher trim levels in the GMCs. The Platinum interior was beautiful and had TONS of features...but most of the time...you don't USE those features, once they are set. The Rebel has everything I need...looks GREAT...and in my older years...most of all...I LOVE the comfort. I've never liked the Ram product in the past, but when the new design hit...the Ram got me excited. So far...I LOVE it!

    @JohnSmith-ev1sm 3 года назад +16

    You should have mentioned that the Ram can tow 3000+ pounds more, when equipped with a $100 option; the 3.92 rear end. As for handling, the Ram is the only one that doesn't "side skip" in the rear end when going over bumps like train tracks. Going straight down a road you may not notice the difference, but its huge when driving in a (tight) bend and hitting a small pot hole or pavement crack, the Ram stays 100% composed and the other 2 really skip sideways in the rear. The Ford and GM interiors look depressing with all that drab black, maybe that's just the color scheme in these particular trucks. I also wish you would do more to show available towing specs; for example, my level 2 bighorn has 1750 pounds of payload, this video gives the impression Ram can't tow anything but that's not true. A bighorn with the 3.92 and air bag suspension is a far better tow rig than the Ford with turbos (we all know they overheat when worked).

      Hmmm, good points, but I’m not sure that a truck should require a gas gobbling 3.92 rear end in order to tow decently. And how does the rear end meaningfully increase payload? I agree with Steve, Ram just simply should not put out any truck with less than 1,000 pounds payload and only 7,700 pounds towing. That is just below any reasonable minimum standard. I don’t know about the Ford engines overheating. My 2.7 hasn’t, but maybe I just baby it. I do agree that the Ram interiors are beautiful, but the Fords do seem to have a better balance of attributes, as well as more choices to configure them. I am glad you enjoy your Ram, and it sounds like a great truck.

    • @wsmcook
      @wsmcook 3 года назад +1

      The reason it doesn't bounce is because of the rear coil spring suspension. That's all well and good but it's also the reason why the ram sags so easily with only a little bit of weight in the bed.

    • @Vulnox
      @Vulnox 3 года назад +1

      There is a lot mentioned here without being honest. I have a 2021 F-150 PowerBoost, and it doesn’t skip on train tracks or become unsettled. That was a thing back with the pre-2018 F-150s with the heavy duty springs, but it was an issue of poor responding shocks. $100 and a set of better shocks fixed it for everyone. Ford improved the rear shocks in the 2018 and newer, and the 2021 is even better. I have driven my 2019 and 2021 thousands of miles, all kinds of terrain, and never have the rear skip out. That is FUD.
      The point of the video was to talk payload numbers. Even with a larger rear, which just increases the RAMs already insane price compared to the other two, the rear axle won’t change the payload numbers much if at all. That payload is pathetic given that in terms of creature comforts those trucks are similar. Also your 1750lbs of payload is low end in the F-150 line, where an XLT Payload Package F-150 is over 2200lbs of Payload. Even a well equipped Lariat with standard tow package can easily be above 1800lbs and it won’t have to deal with the out of date HEMI.
      Lastly, your comment about turbos is also incorrect. The turbos are cooled and have never been known to have overheat issues. I spend a lot of time at F-150 forums, and can’t think of one time that turbo temps have been an issue. If you are thinking of the TFL video where Andre’s truck got a high temp warning, Ford issues an over the air update for that as it ended up being a calibration issue on the temp system, not related to actual engine malfunction or overheat. They have a service advisory for it and updates were pushed in August.
      The interior just comes down to packaging. My Lariat Sport interior is not all black, and I agree that all black is getting stale. But the RAM has that stupid vertical screen which as they covered in the video, means you have to use on screen controls for HVAC and radio. Ford, correctly, did a 12” horizontal aspect screen so I get a huge view and still have physical controls.
      Ford knows how to build actual trucks, so does GM. Even including RAM in the discussion for their half ton is a waste of time. Their Heavy Duty line is still outstanding, and for good reason. Their half ton line is meant for people that want a truck that behaves like a car, and has the payload ratings to go with it.

It's all based on looks today.. I drive on dirt roads a lot. I would rather have more flex in the sidewall for snow, icy roads etc. Seems to grip better than a super rigid sidewall.

As you pointed out, it's somewhat "brand loyalty" as I'm coming from a Jeep Gladiator. I'm just not "off road" enough to justify the Gladiator. Seems a 1500 makes more sense for my needs. We're talking luxury here......Ram has decided to rival some of the best luxury sedans on the market, ie: Mercedes and Luxus . Ford and GM still seem to be stuck with numbers, the work truck mentality. I have the 2021 Ram limited with coil suspension plus air suspension giving the Ram the best ride of the three. The sound proofing is superb. If you are on a long trip these features really add up to comfort and less fatigue. No. It doesn't have quite as high "numbers", but what the heck, it has all the bed and towing capacity that most people really need. In my opinion, if you need high numbers then you should select a HD truck. By-the-way, I agree with your opinion of the 22 inch tires. The GM tailgate: I guess it's nice to have the built in load control. However I'd hate to accidentally open that thing while hitched to a trailer. I like that about the Ram tailgate. You can open it and access deep into the bed while hitched up. My old man bones like the GM bumper step, but they all offer something reasonable there. Ram's payload is negatively affected by HEAVY options like the Rambox and air suspension. Minus those two things, it's similar to the others. As a Ram half ton owner, I can say that the coil springs are soft, giving you a great ride, but they sag too much under weight. However payload and trailering control is NEVER an issue. People that think leaf springs are more stable are mistaken. All the trucks are awesome now days.

That said, spending $80-90k on a truck, reliability probably isn’t number 1 concern, you probably get new trucks every couple years.

I'm curious to see what size rubber they wrap around it. When it coms to aftermarket wheels, I get annoyed when people run the wrong offset so their wheels stick out 2+ inches past their fenders. Not only does it add a ton of stress from the increased scrub radius, but it's ugly. Love the videos 👍
