It's pretty unrelated, but if you ever want to have a really is enjoyable video to watch, Regular car reviews video about the VW westfalia is a tear jerker
Did anybody else notice the picture of the older F 150 about 10 feet off the ground at the sand dunes!!!! That’s crazy, I’ve had my truck a few feet in the air, but mad respect to that driver for sending it!!!
They're cheaper to buy when they're air borne. Of course, you buy as is while in the air but you can save a few bucks on fuel as air borne f150 trucks have great fuel savings while in the air.
I've noticed by the trees around you that you probably have been holding on to the video of the car sale for a while. I've noticed it in other videos also, you really have a good sense for holding on to pieces and putting them together into a story.
Yes, those two pieces of video were nearly a year old now and filmed months apart from each other. It's hard to know when to use some things but hopefully it was topical enough. The yellow car really deserves it's own video probably.
Seeing the ol’ diesel wagon at the end was the icing on the cake, thank you Neil for all the time and effort you put into your videos…I look forward to every Sunday morning!
Great video, Neil! Your advice on making a purchase is very helpful and well-reasoned. I've only had used vehicles too. I also enjoyed the storyline about your family's vehicles and the Banana's last ride, which was a great addition to your piece. When I was growing up, my family had a 1978 Chevy Suburban. It was tan-colored, had no air conditioning, and was prone to running out of gas. Despite its flaws, my parents would load all seven of us kids into the truck and take us on road trips across the Western United States.
I've not bought new for 30 years. And thank you for the brief homage to the old IH Scouts. Our family had Scouts, IH 4x4 trucks, and Travelall's on the farm too...
Love that you wove the banana mobile story into the truck purchase formula. The mix of practical and family/human condition is what keeps me coming back and has even brought my wife to ask what's new on ddd on Sunday morning 😊 thanks for all you bring!
You did it again Neil! You managed to stir up memories of my dad and how he always bought our cars when I was young. Such great advice on purchasing strategies that should be of great use. What he also taught me wash, wax and detail often and your vehicle will take care of you… I’ll see you on the next one!
Thanks for the video Neil ! I haven't bought a new vehicle since a pickup I got in '78. I've mostly had good luck buying used. We are retired now and have been making a couple trips each year of 4,200 miles between MN & CA. Our Subaru's seats weren't very comfortable on long trips so when it died (I'd missed a timing belt change) we got a 2006 Lexus LS. After 3 trips out & back in the Lexus I am still happy with it. Like most of our vehicles I expect to keep driving the Lexus until it isn't worth the cost to fix anymore. We could afford almost any car we wanted but if it ever came to a contest of pinching pennies, I'd step into the ring with you any time son ! 😂
I have only had the pleasure of indulging in your channel for a few months, yet I am captivated by the richness of its content. Your storytelling is truly remarkable, compelling me to return time and again. This particular video serves as a splendid illustration, evoking nostalgic recollections of vehicles from my past and the cherished memories intertwined with them.
I just bought a 18 f150 with 140k 5.0 runs great. I always go through and do maintenance such as spark plugs belts. All the fluids changed as soon as I buy them.
I flush it a few times with some distilled water. I’m a little leery about the chemicals they want you to put in the cooling system. I heard they ruin water pumps.
Nice to have you back. I caught a bit of your live stream last week but only the last few minutes. Just about when you mentioned "that's what's been going on". I just figured you took a well-deserved week off. Other than the obvious, (age) it amazes me how we seem to have similar ideas and histories. The 317 on the trailer struck me and the attachment to John Deere Garden tractors. The Ford trucks are almost exactly the models I've owned and my thinking about buying trucks (vehicles) is almost exactly the same as yours. I took my last "new to me" purchase on step further. In 2017, I purchased a 16 SCREW with a 3.5 V-6. I intentionally avoided the turbochargers mostly due to my experience with aircraft. I too just didn't want the unnecessary complexity but wanted the fuel mileage of the V6. I'm always amazed how that little engine can pump out the power at 21 MPG overall. It has never left me wishing for more. It had 23K on it when I purchased it, and now has just over 205k. It still looks and drives as good as the day I bought it. I had sold my 99 F250 crew with 7.3 (just like yours) that had 333K miles on it for about half of what the 16 cost. So, I had a very nice low milage truck for less than 10K out of pocket. It was the lower-level trim but a trip to the junk yard cured that. For another grand, I bought all the 302 trim stuff including a gauge cluster from Platinum. It's all basically plug and play with some changes to the computers which is rather easy to do. I also had a lot of help from the guys at the "F150 Ford Enthusiast" web site. I wouldn't recommend others as things can get messed up if you're not careful. At the first tire change, I upgraded to the 18" Platinum wheels and made the necessary corrections for the speedo. Also, very easy to do. In the end, I ended up with the truck I wanted but couldn't afford with no payments. I wouldn't recommend everybody jumping into this style of purchasing. But it works(ed) for me. I've from time to time thought about trading it, but I like that truck so much the thought soon passes. So, I totally agree with your point of view on these things. I just read this morning the average monthly payment on an F150 is just under $950 bucks per month. Great trucks, if you can afford them.
Just purchased a 2019 F150 XLT Sport Crew Cab 4x4 with 91,000 miles for $22,000. This truck looks so clean. I was very happy to find this one. I am with you, I will never buy new again.
This is the best video online for this topic. I’m looking for a F250 to pay cash for but didn’t know the range I should be looking for or the years. I know I didn’t want to pay 40 or 50k for a truck. Thank you so much for this content!
Agreed, that 300 straight 6 was a beast. My Dad had an 87 F150 with 4 speed manual. That truck pull everything we put behind it. I learned to drive manual in that truck. Great memories!
Great video, as always! Jennifer and I watched it on the television and enjoyed not only the buying tips, but also the history of vehicles - especially the old yellow family wagon!
Grissom AFB is over in Peru, IN and there were a lot of guys stationed there in the 80’s and early 90’s that had spent time in Germany. When the base closed around ‘93, they moved the 122nd Fighter Wing up to Ft Wayne.
I'm a 3.5 ecoboost guy for power and towing. the 5.0 looks the same on paper, but doesn't have the usable low end torque like the twin turbo truck . For high mile longevity I would have gone with the 5.0 as well. Now its time for a new set of Bfg at ko2! Meguiers makes a wax for black vehicles that covers up most swirls and scratches works great!
I'm interested in that wax! I kind of enjoy the labor of making the black look clean, but it may wear on me! My white 2015 had the 2.7L Ecoboost. They are great trucks and could go another 100K without any issues. We also have another G&K truck with the 3.5 EB and one more with the 5.0.
Great video Neil, would love to see a video on how you will make the truck yours. Seat covers, interior and exterior accessories, tires and anything else.
A trick I learned with black cars is get them washed and waxed good, then give them a rub down with lemon pledge. The static charge it gives keeps the dust off, keeping it looking clean longer, and the dirt that gets on it will supposedly wipe off easier. Personally I don't do black cars. I love the look, but down south, it's just too hot.
Thanks Neil, this was a terrific video. I miss my ‘84 Nissan Sentra Diesel, a great little car with an engine that would run forever. Regrettably, the abundance of road salt in NE Ohio ate through the annually undercoated unibody in a dozen years. My ‘96 Ford Ranger went to it’s second owner in 2023. I hope to find one more truck before I’m too old to drive... I’m running out of years. Wishing you and your family a blessed week filled with gentle seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Enjoy your pond. Peace brother
That’s was a great video. My family had an old Ford Station Wagon Squire. I remember all the trips in that beast. I do remember when the air went out. We were too poor to fix for like 2 years I believe. Crazy no air. Thanks for the memories once again. Now I need to go dig out the station wagon. That’s right. I own it now. Keep it in the storage building at the farm. Thanks.
Around 4 years old with fairly high miles is a smart set of criteria. That all but guarantees they're highway miles so the wear's a lot less than the same mileage in local traffic. By contrast my dad only bought 10 year old cars on the theory that everything major that could go wrong already had by that point. That theory was proven wrong A LOT, which is why I grew up learning how to turn a wrench. Buying stuff in Europe when you're stationed there in the military and bringing it home was definitely a thing. My dad for years had a high-end turntable and reel-to-reel tape deck that he picked up while stationed in Germany, and when he was due to get out in '68 they offered him a new Jaguar if he'd re-enlist and potentially get sent to Vietnam. He turned that down in favor of going to college on the GI Bill, which worked out a lot better for my ability to exist. Loved seeing the last ride of Quack-Quack. Those 80s Mercedes diesel wagons have a bit of a following because the drivetrains are pretty near indestructible, and they're not hard to work on.
I bought a new to me truck last year and it come down to an older f150 or a 2016 tundra. I ended up going with the tundra but a mechanic friend told me either tundra or ford with that coyote v8. He said either way was a solid option.
Man. My dad’s work trucks were Scouts and the family car was an old Mercedes 240D. I could watch the road go by through the International’s floorboard.
Two years ago we spent 19,000 (includes tax) on a 2004 Dodge RAM 2500. It has the 5.9 Cummins. Been real happy with it. Everything has been easy to work on it. I plan on keeping it for as long as I can. It was well taken care of and I don't have to do DEF. I would never get the ECO-boost after seeing the difficulty when the water pump goes out.
My dad had a 1970 International Travelall. He bought it new. My brother & I had no clue what seatbelts were for. We were always climbing over the seats. Front to back, to way back. I closed the back door on my brothers fingers once. Dad was a cabinet maker, so he bought it because it fit a full sheet of plywood with the back seta folded down. Dad sold it in the mid 80's. By that time, it was pure rust. More holes than paint.
I have a 2015 Expedition with the Ecoboost for work and I've really been pleasantly surprised. I would never have purchased one on my own but this thing has stood up to a lot of abuse (it has lights and sirens so you can imagine how it gets driven) and has held up flawlessly.
Nice truck and I'm glad there are people that can see the value in a high mileage vehicle, especially when they've been taken care of. Also, I really like the 60fps content, please keep that up!
Good tips Neil. on buying a used car. I've had both new and used cars and trucks. You definitely can save a lot buying a clean, used vehicle. Prices for new cars today are really high. Probably due at least in part, to all the electronic systems they have. I like my 15-year-old beater car and 25-year-old project truck. I'll keep driving them until the wheels fall off! We spend so much time in our vehicles that they do seem to be a part of the family. It must have been hard for your wife to see the old Mercedes go off to its new home.
Holy crap. I've been researching a ton of used truck videos and engine comparisons, etc. like everyone else, then ran into this gem of a video. Talk about an unexpected pleasure. Well done my friend.... and how in the world were the 90s that long ago?!?! Hug your loved ones, folks.
I love what you’re preaching brother! I have a couple of new (bought new) cars in the garage my (she’s an OCN nurse and Infusion nurse) so she has to be in a very reliable vehicle (Toyota) and my daughter ( she drives my grandkids around😁) everyone else drives an older vehicle bought old. I drive a 2004 GMC Sierra which my sister gave me when her husband died (RIP Mike) and then I have three more old cars in the driveway for various drivers.
My first car was a 1973 Mercury Capri in 1991. I learned a lot about working on cars from that one. Partially because it broke down on me so many times. When the alternator went out I actually had to get the existing one rebuild because I couldn't find a new one anywhere (this was before the internet). Biggest lesson I learned from that car was that buying an old (not just used, but old) car could be far more trouble than it's worth - especially if you don't have a place to work on it and the knowledge to fix whatever goes wrong.
Nice one Neil, and especially cool to see the “Banana Mobile”…. We had a 1970 Ford Falcon Wagon, it was the “Yellow Submarine”. As in…we all lived in it on trips.
I do all the automobile buying in my family. My husband trusts me and the research I do. He likes new but we keep it until if will not run anymore. I picked out his 2011 Dodge Avenger and it now has 178,000 miles. When we buy a car we pay on it for a year and then we pay it off completely. We do that because it keeps our credit score up in the 800's. I bought my Hyundai Santa Fe SUV in 2019. It's a 2019, I wanted no more than 5,000 miles on it and the list of standard safety features are amazing. I knew that in 2020 they were going to remove many of the "standard" safety features but add them on a luxury features where you had to pay extra for them. I got everything I wanted and it was still under warranty. I knew the 5,000 miles was enough to break in the newness and it was a small town's rental car therefore I knew the maintenance history on the car itself. It's 2024 and it just flipped to24,000 miles and runs great. No issues what so ever. I always do my 3-6 month research on my cars. I paid it off after a year during Christmas. We love not having payments on anything. We're completely debt free. We're able to travel every winter to Australia. My husband is retired and I'm a disabled/retired nurse.
I like your way of thinking. My last 3 trucks have had 150k plus with one having 225k miles all with V8's. My current truck is only the second brand new truck I have owned. The only reason I bought it was I got 0% interest "1 good thing to come out of Covid" 2020 ford f150 with the 5.0 with 66K on the odometer. love the truck. Keep up the great videos!!!
People come for truck buying advice (homerun on that BTW), keep watching for the excellent story, and leave with a warm heart like they just watched a Hallmark movie! You’ve got a real talent!!
I’ve heard a ton of advice online and in real life about buying vehicles. All my adult life I’ve been purchasing used vehicles I’ve felt comfortable with after a test drive for the right price and sold them a few years later in turn only actually spending a few thousand to drive that vehicle so basically using your strategy. One time I even made 6k on an old jeep in pristine condition with one owner. I can’t bring myself to be spending 50k on a new vehicle it’s crazy. Refreshing to see someone with common sense. Vehicles can really cripple people financially without them even knowing it. Great content!
Long time viewer, first time commenter, but your video this week hit the mark for me. My parents bought a new Subaru wagon in 1998 when I was about ten years old. Grew up in that car, learned to drive in it, and ended up buying it from my dad about twelve years ago. I have used it off and on as a winter car and snowboard rig. I finally sold it this week, after a lot of options-weighing, because I just don't drive it anymore and I have a lot of other vehicles, all of which serve more of a purpose to me at this stage in life than the Subaru does. I'm sad to see it go but I think the new owner is going to appreciate it for what it is, and I can put the money into my other project trucks. But it was sort of comforting in a way to see the story of the Mercedes, and I could really relate to this one. Great video and great storytelling.
That is a really great purchase price. You nailed all the key items to be considered when looking for a new vehicle! Congrats on the purchase. 5 of the best F150 mods that I did to my 2018 F150 were (1) the easy drop lift gate strut, (2) retractable RetraxOne Aluminum Tonneau Cover, (3) added additional in bed and under dash and seat interior entry/exit lightning (4) easily build out a custom storage system for under the back seats to keep it a work truck when work is need and a family truck when family mode is needed. And fianlly (5) the drivers side back seat quick release latch sold on ebay and amazon creates a very safe/secure place for storing your "bear solution" if one is ever needed. TY Again Neil for creating and sharing.
I bought my 2016 f150 new. It was my first new vehicle I’ve ever owned. I know it’s over kill. But a little advice would be to change the oil when it hits 50%. I know everyone thinks I’m nuts but I’ve don’t that since I’ve owned my truck an now it’s close to 200 thousand miles on it and runs like a dream with no leaks and no problems. An I would have the transmission flushed every year. It’s around 200 or so dollars to have it done. The 10r80 has a problem with a spring in the valve body that sticks. Other then that it should last you for many many years to come. Happy driving an congratulations on the new truck.
I just bought a 2019 lariat with 100k kms with a 4 year full bumper to bumper warranty from a Honda dealer, someone traded it in there. Super clean one owner truck in like new spotless condition. All in it cost me $55k cdn that’s including tax, interest on the loan and the warranty. Brand new would’ve cost around $105k cdn all in. It definitely makes sense to buy used especially if you can get a warranty on it. I have pretty much a new truck for half the cost.
I just did the same thing. I daily drove a 04 f250 5.4 4x4 bought it in 2016 with 140,000 just retired it running perfectly with 230,000 miles strong. It was an excellent truck. I saved and just bought a 2018 f150 5.0 4x4 with 120,000 for 17,000 and i could not be happier. Its a rocket compared to my old superduty. Blue Oval 4 life.
Neil, you are cracking me up. I have always loved the look of your white work F-150, especially after I bought a new black Platinum 150 in May 2020. I love the black and always wanted one, but it is more work to keep clean. Sometimes I miss having a white truck. But after a wash it seems worth it. In 2024 I only have 24k miles on it. I’ll be looking forward to seeing what you do to the truck. Congrats!
Researching the TCO or True Cost of Ownership is a good lead as well. TCO includes maintenance, wear and depreciation. MPG is a not a true declaration of Cost per Mile.
Great points! I also prefer to buy from individuals and, if I view the vehicle at their home, I also checkout how that take care of the house. If they take care of the home and property they are more likely too have taken care of the vehicle
Wow. This was most appreciated. I'm looking for a truck, so I really felt confident when you said engine, V8. That's what I'm looking for since I currently own a 2017 Mustang GT 5.0. Although my ECM went out 2023, I love this engine.
Great video! I bought my 2012 F-250 with 100,000 miles for $23,000. I’m the third owner and bought it from my local Ford dealership. Also it’s a Georgia truck, where I live. Always try to buy a southern truck (no salt). Always enjoy your videos.
I've got a Texas Ed. XLT 2014. It came with leather interior factory. 3.5 that runs like a top. 152000 and still running great.😊 Thanks for a great video !!!
I've been looking for a used truck for months on Autotrader, and Edmunds. Everything you pointed out is exactly what I've been doing. I love trucks. I have a 2014 Ram 1500, 5.7L. I have one more payment on it. Bought it used 5 years ago. It's been great! I will not pay these crazy prices for a new truck! Enjoyed your video. Decided to keep my truck for now. Hope it lasts! 🤞
Great video as always. Your in-laws gravel driveway is absolutely beautiful! It's the best looking gravel drive I have seen, they must really work hard on maintaining it. Thanks for the quality family content, it's fantastic.
I bought a 2014 Ram 1500 with a blown motor and 80k miles on it from a friend, it was super clean just had a blow motor for whatever reason. I bought it, went to a junk yard, found a similar truck that was hammered in the rear, it was a 2017 with 50k miles on it, same exact motor. I bought the motor for $700 from the junk yard and paid a guy another $700 to put it in my truck, that was probably 4 years ago now and its a freaking awesome truck. I had a few other things done to it as well. All said and done I was in it for like $6500 total give or take. I don't drive it a lot as I have an EV I mostly drive and another diesel truck I pull an RV with but it now has 115k miles on it. I turned down 20K for it a few months back from a friend of mine, no way would I sell it for that. Its probably what its worth in reality but I rather have the truck then the $20k. I tend to buy older low milage truck from old guy's. My F250 I bought with 84k miles on it, its a 2003, bought it probably in 2017 so the old guy didn't drive it a lot. I paid $13.5 for it back then which was a lot but its the 7.3L diesel and is probably worth more then that now with only 125k miles on it as I have done a lot of nice things to it, put 18 inch modern wheels on it, complete brake job and front end rebuild, all new head and tail lights, etc. It has original white paint, never been hit other then some minor hail damage, clean Texas rust free truck. I will never sell it.
Dang. That's good stuff! I'd love to find a good buy on an older 7.3 just to have it around. Most of them around here have all been handed down to construction crews and are clapped out beyond belief though.
WOW I needed this video. I have a 2003 Ranger Fx4 with 200k. Starting to get long in the tooth. Been thinking about upgrading, but man prices are insane. Been thinking F150 with V8. Now you provided me good tips. Thank you
My personal choice of couse is ford BUT I stay away from the 5.4 triton they have the most problems with the valve train . My 2009 has the bullet proof 4.6 L and I can tow anything the 5.4 can
Hi Neil, thanks for another great video. I’m curious what the buttons 0:51 are on the drivers door pillar? 5 buttons just about the door handle? .AU Here
Love this. I'm also a Ford guy beginning the process of looking for a replacement to my 2011 F-150. Great advice on willing to go higher mileage if you do your homework.
I know last week you were doubting this, but not only was I really good, it is what I needed because I am about to be purchasing a new to me car and I am able to take a lot of your suggestions while shopping. Thank you.
Well thought out plan! Being in Canada, my budget was to be $30K, which got me a 2016 XLT with the 302A package and the 3.5 Ecoboost. Since I wasn't going to be towing, the fuel mileage was where my choice of importance was. I've had the truck now for 4 years, and it runs as good now, as it did when I bought it, clocking in at 138,000 miles. It had an exhaust manifold on warranty early on, and I put a throttle body on myself (20 minutes) and I do 5K oil changes. I have zero complains with this truck, although I realize, like all of them, something 'could' go wrong, so it's best to have a cushion for that reality. My truck is paid for, has the 36 gallon fuel tank, so the odd long haul is an easy task. I've heard of numerous oil burning 5.0 trucks and 10 speed transmission issues on numerous Facebook and RUclips video's over the last couple of years, so I know, like all trucks, one can get a dud, or get lucky, as I feel I have. Recently heard of a 2011 ecoboost with over 500K on it, and I'm sure there are 5..0's out there with the same...so get what you can afford, and enjoy your truck, which ever your choose!
I've only purchased one vehicle private party, and that was my first vehicle. That was a '98 2WD S10. The most recent ones I got from a dealer as certified pre-owned. They were only 3-4 years old at the time I purchased them. Main thing I like about getting a CPO from a dealer is, that I get free state inspections (not emissions). Each vehicle I've had also lasted eight years.
I'm with you on used trucks, my last new truck was 18 years ago and drove that truck 15 years and 225,000 miles so def got my money's worth. But in 2006 I was able to get a 4x4 full size crew cab V8 pickup for $26,000 now that gets you 100,000 miles plus. To me how it was taken care of is alot too. If someone didn't keep a clean truck they probably weren't worried about oil changes and maintenance. And the new engines with the 4cyl turbos and whatnot, junk as far as I'm concerned. My buddy has a 2021/22 Chevy 1500 with the 4cyl turbo and I have a 2016 with the V8 and my truck will tow circles around his even though the dealer told them they were equal. On the other hand the engine in my dad's truck went at 80,000 miles, you never know.
Very true. You never know cause there are horror stories for every make, model, engine or transmission option. We hear about the bad stuff all the time but not as often about the reliable truck that never let a guy down.
This is really great info Neil, and really sound logic. I split the difference on my 2017 Ram 1500 Crew Cab. I purchased in Jan 2019 using a big down payment, but did finance part of it. Luckily I purchased this JUST before truck prices went totally crazy. The original sticker (new) was about $50K...I purchased it about 18 months later with 16K miles for about $30K. FTR, I'm a white truck guy as well, although if you are motivated to keep it clean, it's hard to beat black. Looks like a really nice F-150...enjoy!
Great video brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 160,000 miles on it and still going strong 💪, It was my dad's truck when he bought it new back in 2011 for his company vehicle, then when his car allowance was up and needed a new company car, instead of trading it in he decided to give the truck to me so that it stays in our family, my first truck I have (which now I use to take to car shows) is a 1996 Ford F150 with a 5.0L (302) Windsor V8 with 210,000 miles on it and still going strong, the only things I replaced on my old truck was the starter, the rear fuel pump, and the power steering magnesium but other then that mostly was just simple maintenance, took out the transmission fluid just to get rid of the shuttering it was making and it hasn't had a problem ever since.
2002 Blue Silverado standard cab. Bought it in 2004 after we were told we could never have kid's. 1 yr later, pregnant with our only child. From the hospital the day she was born, elementary, middle, and high school, ole Blue has been there dropping off and picking up our daughter. Was the first vehicle she drove. The memories and miles made with a vehicle are something most of us cherish for a lifetime. Love this video very much Neil. Especially the video's and memories of the Banana car.
Lots of great info and I agree with everything except the interior tip. I agree with cars, but work trucks aren't usually kept up being clean inside. I am guilty of that but always keep up on maintenance and repairs, day to day I don't have time to vacuum and keep the interior pristine and am pretty rough on it.
09 Platinum still running strong. Over 200k miles and paid 10k for it. The ol' girl has been through blizzards and snow drifts 3 feet deep. All I have done is regular maintenance and new tires. Awesome truck.
Great video, Neil. I was in the car business for many years at a dealership before I started trucking and many things about I really didn’t like. But your advice is absolutely financially sound. I wasn’t excited about watching this one and took a few days before I clicked on it. But as usual, your ability to make something interesting and wholesome made this video exceptional. One of my favorite shows to this day is the Waltons. A lot of your videos have that quality. BTW. Did you have. Notre Dame hat on in front of the black International Scout?
Found a 2011 Ford F150 Lariat with 203,941 miles for 9k and it's in really good condition, sunroof, sliding rear window, backup camera, navigation, auto folding mirrors, tailgate step, heated and cooled seats, auto sliding memory seat when turned on and many more really fancy features for a 2011 Lariat. Planning on purchasing it within the next week or so. God I love Ford F150s, my dream truck
Nice video Neil, I do about the same on buying a truck but I still have have some of mine, I have a 2004 F150 with 368000 miles a 2012 F250 gas motor with 296000 and just bought a 2020 F150 with 108000 on it
Great video Neil! Helpful and heartwarming all at the same time, which seems to be your trademark! It'll be interesting to see if guidelines change over the years as things get more computerized. I was thinking of FordTechMakuloco's video on a new taillight costing $5,600 to replace because of the interconnectivity in newer vehicles. Finally, I love the Ford's for the number pad. We use the one on our Escape all the time to just grab something out of the car while not having the keys, or if you go to a water park or amusement park and you can just lock the keys in the car. And, I know it goes against your high mileage thought, but I bought my father's 2005 F-150 and it has around 36,000 miles on it. He's cheap though, so it has crank windows, but it's 4 wheel drive, so there's that. 😀
I would like to buy a 2024 Ford F-150, and the engines that are available in Saudi Arabia are V8 5.0, and there is only a 3.5 V6 turbo, and we have the Raptor R and the well-known regular Raptor. I am a follower of the channel. It is a beautiful channel. I would like your advice on which one to buy, v8 5.0 or v6 3.5. Note that I owned the raptor for two years and sold it a few days ago.
Came for the truck buying advice, stayed for the nostalgia about old family memories and stories. Well put together.
Great video
Agreed. Same reasons.
Agreed!🙃
It's pretty unrelated, but if you ever want to have a really is enjoyable video to watch, Regular car reviews video about the VW westfalia is a tear jerker
Did anybody else notice the picture of the older F 150 about 10 feet off the ground at the sand dunes!!!! That’s crazy, I’ve had my truck a few feet in the air, but mad respect to that driver for sending it!!!
That was in my Bronco! That was a heck of a ride I tell ya! :O
That’s crazy! Haha
I bent my F100 frame doing that.
Love it! Stories that this are great and it's amazing what we all rode around the country in back in the 70's and 80's.
Love hearing that! I feel my best accomplishment is getting the wives to watch! Thanks for the comment and viewership!
You did it again Neil!
You managed to stir up memories of my dad and how he always bought our cars when I was young. Such great advice on purchasing strategies that should be of great use. What he also taught me wash, wax and detail often and your vehicle will take care of you… I’ll see you on the next one!
Hey I would love to have a conversation with you. What's your zangi ?
Neil, your ability to tell a story is something special. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Hey I would love to have a conversation with you. What's your zangi ?
I have only had the pleasure of indulging in your channel for a few months, yet I am captivated by the richness of its content. Your storytelling is truly remarkable, compelling me to return time and again. This particular video serves as a splendid illustration, evoking nostalgic recollections of vehicles from my past and the cherished memories intertwined with them.
Boy I really appreciate this comment. Thanks so much for the kind words and for coming back for more!
Love the last part about the quack quack car. That was the best part to the video. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day.
I just bought a 18 f150 with 140k 5.0 runs great. I always go through and do maintenance such as spark plugs belts. All the fluids changed as soon as I buy them.
Great tip!
Do you flush the coolant or just drain it???
I bought my 2018 F-150 5.0 with 45K for $35K which I think was a great deal, absolutely love it
I flush it a few times with some distilled water. I’m a little leery about the chemicals they want you to put in the cooling system. I heard they ruin water pumps.
The video this week turned out very good, like it always does. I love seeing all the old vehicles. Thank you.
Thanks so much Aaron!
Very nice! There are creative ways to save and still get what you want for sure!
"I hoped you liked it?" Dude, this is the best video about used vehicles I've ever seen. New subscriber to your channel thank you
Awesome! Thanks for the sub!
Great video! The old W123 brought back memories. My wife had one when we first got together... that thing was a beast. I'll never forget the sound
I really miss ford's 300 straight 6, such a work horse, love that 5.0 mustang , my favorite car, thanks for the Sunday morning vid to start my day.
Appreciate it Chad!
Yeah mine was my cavalier badged Cadillac cimarron. What part of Ohio are you located? I'm from Trumbull county but currently living in ravenna
@@DaveRhine Dave, we are located in Lake country, about f miles from the southern shore of the Great Swamp Erie.

Thanks.
Very cool!
Just stay away from the 10 speed transmission
The quack-quack car! Much nicer than the VW diesels we had. No heat in winer, no A/C in summer, no power ever...
Great video Neil Makes me miss my 2008 Tundra I just sold bought it with 13,000 miles on it and sold it with 420,000 miles a lot of memories
Wow that's terrific! Those Toyotas are no strangers to high miles!
Have always bought new and keep for over a decade. Love that new car smell!
Thanks so much!
Yes, they were all pretty sad about seeing the yellow car leave.
Holy crap. I've been researching a ton of used truck videos and engine comparisons, etc. like everyone else, then ran into this gem of a video. Talk about an unexpected pleasure. Well done my friend.... and how in the world were the 90s that long ago?!?! Hug your loved ones, folks.
Thanks a lot!
Thanks!
Hey Thanks so much!
Sounds like a well rounded collection!
I used to have a 1976 international Scout harvester. I loved it
18:30 in Poland "quack" is called Mercedes-Benz T1
My first car was a 1973 Mercury Capri in 1991. I learned a lot about working on cars from that one. Partially because it broke down on me so many times. When the alternator went out I actually had to get the existing one rebuild because I couldn't find a new one anywhere (this was before the internet). Biggest lesson I learned from that car was that buying an old (not just used, but old) car could be far more trouble than it's worth - especially if you don't have a place to work on it and the knowledge to fix whatever goes wrong.
Yeah, too old can be troublesome!
Hey I would love to have a conversation with you. What's your zangi ?
HOW do you all keep the stone driveways so nice and the grass/weeds from growing into it??? I love it.
I’m wondering the same thing
It takes a good bit of effort but I have several videos about it. My wife does much of the weeding and I do the grading. :)
@@digdrivediy ok I’ll have to check those out.

Thanks
Hey I would love to have a conversation with you. What's your zangi ?
Cars are indeed family members. So many memories are centered around this car and that.
Exactly!
Great video! I was thinking this looked similar to my area, turns out you’re about 40 miles from me. Love the content!
My 2011 Eco-Boost has 244,765 miles on it. No accidents, just a lot of windshield time. Still runs great! I bought it used with 30k.
Oh by the way my 09 has 187k on it doesnt leak or use any oil but I change oil & filter (wix) every 4000 miles
Appreciate it.
came for trucks advices and keeping for the family history, thanks for sharing! really enjoyed
I have been thinking about a new car, but you made some great points about a used car. So, now I’m going to look for used, thanks
I hope you find the right one! And you'll have money left over for other goodies! :)
I bought a new truck 3 yrs ago. First new truck at almost 60 yrs old. Always bought used. $$$$. Great video Neil. Always like your flashback photos.
Great minds think alike 😉
10:25 as a car detailer i know black paint is a nightmare to keep clean ;) Congrats man ! awesome deal and car !
Great points! I also prefer to buy from individuals and, if I view the vehicle at their home, I also checkout how that take care of the house. If they take care of the home and property they are more likely too have taken care of the vehicle
???
Hey I would love to have a conversation with you. What's your zangi ?
That's a good tip! I wish I could easily find southern trucks.
I've got a Texas Ed. XLT 2014. It came with leather interior factory. 3.5 that runs like a top. 152000 and still running great.😊 Thanks for a great video !!!
I do buy new but I hold onto them forever, still enjoying my 2006 Chevy 4x4 silverado.
I would drive that Mercedes back and forth to work. The shop I work at stamps parts for the new ones. Excellent video!!
Why did you return the work one? Changed jobs? Maybe you explain in the video I'm just at the beginning
No lie, this is one of the best car videos I've seen on YT
Appreciate that!
Thanks for the advice. I’m looking at a 2014 F150 with 160k miles. I’m nervous about the Ego boost but you helped me make a decision. Thanks a lot.
Thanks!
Awesome! Thanks so much 👍🏻
Great video as always. Your in-laws gravel driveway is absolutely beautiful! It's the best looking gravel drive I have seen, they must really work hard on maintaining it. Thanks for the quality family content, it's fantastic.
Thank you kindly! Yes, it's a labor of love on the driveway! ;)
EV 🦃💩

That was a great video Niel. I’m sure glad that you didn’t leave it on the cutting room floor!
Take care my friend
Thanks a lot Mike!
What a beautiful house and property! Those fall trees 🤩
I know last week you were doubting this, but not only was I really good, it is what I needed because I am about to be purchasing a new to me car and I am able to take a lot of your suggestions while shopping. Thank you.
Thanks. I hope it is useful.
This ultimate Diesel Sound is so awesome 👌 what do you do to the Mercedes now? Restoration ? Great Video Neil, thanks
The Mercedes was sold to someone that wanted to give it a new lease on life. Either as an organ donor or a fixer upper.
Thanks for the advice and great memories Neil. See ya on the next one neighbor!
You’re a great storyteller in your videos Neil. It’s why they’re so engaging.
Thanks 👍🏻
I would like to buy a 2024 Ford F-150, and the engines that are available in Saudi Arabia are V8 5.0, and there is only a 3.5 V6 turbo, and we have the Raptor R and the well-known regular Raptor.
I am a follower of the channel. It is a beautiful channel. I would like your advice on which one to buy, v8 5.0 or v6 3.5. Note that I owned the raptor for two years and sold it a few days ago.
