I need to tell you that since I found your channel, something in your videos always resonantes within me. I feel like I can feel contentment with what I have, I am finishing a huge decluttering and organising in our house and, although it may seem something odd or stupid, what makes me feel accomplished is opening the doors to the chambers in my house and seeing everything tidy and manageable.
I am in a better mood, and I feel that this is the way I have always pursued to be living.
I am realising that I don’t overreact as much as I did, I am more contemplative and less stressed, and this happens even when things get rough or my health declines.
Thank you so much from my ❤️
Kisses and hugs from Galicia, Spain..

Oh hi! I’m so delighted to hear from you and meet you. It doesn’t seem odd or stupid to me. It sounds wonderful! I’m looking forward to the day that I can feel like that whenever I look in a closet or cupboard. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

I feel that a simpler life to me would be unplugging and don’t feel like every time I hear a ping I have to run and check who’s messaging me. I like a simpler schedule where I can do spontaneous things with friends and don’t have to worry about a chore or errand that has to be done. I’ve begun to declutter at my own pace and really enjoy looking at a cupboard and seeing things organized. By the way I’m really enjoying your channel and the sound of your very calm voice! Thank you!

@@TowardsASimpleLife the decluttering must go on, my goal is that one too..In my case at least I feel progress because I managed to have things corralled in categories and I struggle so that surfaces are clutter free.

Had to work? I loved my job as a public school music teacher. I also had to retire early -age 50- because of a serious debilitating health problem, and I so miss my friends, students, having a steady schedule, and the joy and satisfaction of a job well done. I miss it every single day.

    • @TowardsASimpleLife
      @TowardsASimpleLife  2 месяца назад +1

I loved my work too. What I meant by that is if I didn’t work, my family couldn’t stay afloat financially. So I “had” to work for the good of my family. I would have loved to have the option to be a stay-at-home mom, but didn’t. I’m glad that most of my jobs were enjoyable. I had to retire early (65) because of health problems, but I’m glad I’m home now because my daughter desperately needs me to help her with the children. Child care would be too expensive for her. So I guess it all comes around. Right now, I would say that my RUclips work is my “outside job.” I take it seriously and enjoy the mental stimulation it provides and the opportunity to meet and chat with viewers such as you. I don’t know if you know this, but I was a music teacher for 10 years (public school) and 25 years private lessons. I had a very unfortunate thing happen to me my last year (1996) of public school teaching (not my fault) and for the good of my mental health, I switched careers. It led me a whole new direction which I ended up loving as well. I still miss the students though and love running into them sometimes. Some of them friended me on Facebook and it’s fun to see how their lives are going. Music is a special thing to teach.

@@TowardsASimpleLife You were a music teacher? Then you know what I mean about being forced to retire by unfortunate circumstances, and how much of your life is tied up in your work when it’s also your hobby. Unfortunately my health hasn’t allowed me to teach privately or participate in community music like I used to either.
      Really enjoying your channel.

@kimesch9698 Yes, I was a music teacher. I do understand what it is like! I had to give up private teaching about 1999 and one by one, my health affected my abilities. I can barely sing now. A car accident hurt my left wrist so the violin is gone. I’ve been playing the piano but have had some problems because of arthritis in one finger. The knob is huge and knocks on the black keys. Then I broke my 4th finger on my left hand and found out that I have a lot of arthritis in all of my fingers and joints. Got it from my mom. I’m waiting for the break to heal up enough to see if I can play. I just play for my own enjoyment so I hope I can still do that. Meanwhile, I still enjoy listening. The only thing I wanted to be when I was growing up was a music teacher. When I had to give it up, it was like a death. It took a lot to adjust to my life was going to be different, but God is good and he led me to other things I enjoy and I found out that I am more than a musician. He has a bigger plan for me. I still miss playing in orchestras and singing in choirs though…

Hi there! Wonderful video! I agree with you that having less "stuff" doesn't necessarily mean having a simple life. I know many minimalists that are still over scheduled, overwhelmed and stretched thin in their lives. Loved hearing your take on simple living. Hi! Thank you for making these videos. I have similar struggles but am also doing DNRS (a brain retraining system). My question is: When you're severely fatigued, what could i plug into my life in place of RUclips? Walking or most anything is too much.

    • @TowardsASimpleLife

Things that help me/ 10-minute meditations. I use the 10 Percent Happier app, which is one of my best purchases and I will keep the subscription forever. Try all of the courses and individual medications. They even have a course for chronic illness now. I’ve been doing it for years and it helps clear my mind and helps me be more positive. If you can read, find helpful, positive books. Don’t read too long because brain work can wear you out. Have you watched my DOTS video about managing your energy? It is one of the most powerful methods of helping this issue. I was taught how to do it by a cognitive therapist and I cannot recommend it highly enough. In the video, I share what he taught me. He has watched it and told me that I explained it very well. You could also do things like coloring, simple crafts, easy puzzles, journal writing, etc. listen to calming music. I have discovered old music like The Mills Brothers and I listen to them on LPs because I am forced to stand up and flip the records over. It isn’t good to sit and sit and sit which I’m likely to do when I don’t feel good. You can still watch RUclips, but focus on videos that can help you, teach you, and inspire you. Don’t watch videos that make you feel jealous, inadequate, fearful, or unsettled. I like to watch historical videos and pretty videos that help me find calming things to do. I try to limit how long I watch. Sometimes, I watch too much, but even then, the type is videos I watch has changed and I am working to change them even more. I am careful not to watch advice videos where the creator has an unrealistic view that all I have to do is their program and my problems will be solved completely. I can tell they haven’t gone through many challenges. Take short naps, but not too long because that can interfere with your sleep. Sit and look out the window and admire nature. Write a gratitude list. It’s so easy to focus on how bad you feel. Remind yourself that how you are feeling is temporary. You may be like me and have a lot of hard days, but they do pass eventually and then I can do more. I look forward to them and celebrate them. The DOTS method really helps. I hope that helps some!

My life is definitely simpler. I am more content as I used to be a worrier. I used to worry about everything and everyone. My husband is much more laid back. I was always content with material things and accepted that if we couldn’t afford it, we wouldn’t get it or we would save up! However sometimes life changes test us but somehow we get through it.
I love your hair Rozanne. I let my colour grow out before covid and got a pixie cut and that made life simpler for me! Thank you for your interesting, relaxed videos. ❤

I used to worry a lot too. I’ve been working on the mind set that all I can do is control my own efforts and then it is completely out of my hands about how it turns out or how other people feel about it. It’s help me a lot to think that way. Life is such a great teacher. It sounds like you’re good at handling your money. I am trying to improve. My hair is in the awkward stage of growing out. It’s such an adventure because it never works the same way two days in a row. But I’ll get there. I want a chin length or shoulder length bob with just a few bangs in front. That’s an easy style for me. I’m glad you like the new style of videos. Thanks for sticking it out with me! See you next week.

Roxanne this video is wonderful! You gave me a lot to think about.
At beginning of February I decided my word for the year ( word for the year. Lol) was going to be “Simplify” . Truth is I don’t really know what that means for me yet. I want to take this whole year to figure it out.
Mostly I want my cleaning routine to be more simply and not stress about everything I didn’t do. It will get done eventually. I don’t want to do chores over family. Family comes first. If my sister calls and wants to go to lunch I’m gonna do that, I can do the dishes later if they have not been done yet.
I want to do a monthly home refresh at beginning of every month so I can then clean simply the rest of the month. I don’t want to clean or deep clean every day!!! Straighten every day yes of course. Dishes every day of course.
Now that hubby is retired I want to do more things with him, simply things ( that we use to do before vivid) like going to Barnes and Nobles to look at book get Starbucks which we did do today actually, in the middle of the week no less and it felt really good.
I want to do some things on a whim and not have to make these big plans.
I will be figuring out what living Simply means for me this year. No need yo figure it out all at once.
    Thanks for this video!!! Xoxo

Hi Michelle! I like where you’re going with your Simplify word of the year. It will be fun to see where you go with it. One change I had to make was to go to just one video a week. RUclips was absolutely taking over my life before. Now I’m trying to do one well-thought out video which works better with my love of researching and thinking things through. It was a good choice for me personally. I’m working on the cleaning routines too. I just came possibly do anything but basics every day and then gradually work on the rest of it here and there. Sometimes, it takes me a couple of weeks to get to something I used to do every week but I’ve decided that it’s okay. It feels more important to make time for things I enjoy and to lose the tension I used to feel. It sounds like we are on a similar path!

Hi Angie! I was so happy when I saw your comment pop up! I've been kind of leaving my decorating friends alone, because I don't know how they would feel about my new decoration and I haven't wanted to come up as being critical. But I've missed you! I sounds like we are on a similar journey right now. I've been already finding that now I'm not getting worked up about making specific decorating videoss, I'm quickly reverting back to how I decorate prior to starting a RUclips channel. So much less stress and the decorating is fast. I really did get myself too worked up before . (Anxious and sick is a good way to put it.) Creating a life you love is so important! See you!
