Lol what are you going on about dude, Turkey is a massive tourist attraction for Americans. The town they got assaulted in has an absolutely massive Sheraton hotel on the beach, which predominantly houses tourists, most of which are Americans. The locals there, including government workers, are some of the most kind folks you'll meet. Most urban areas of Turkey are left leaning and have no ill will against US soldiers or civilians. This is an unfortunate stain on Izmirs name and doesn't reflect the regions beliefs.
@@TowerCrisis I deployed during the Gulf War. Turkey refused us permission to launch from our bases there. Would not let us send ground troops into Iraq from Turkey. During the ISIS war we weren’t allowed to attack from Turkey. We were confined to the bases as it wasn’t safe to go off base, especially when we gave aid to and supported the Kurds fight against ISIS. No, Turkey is not our friend. So much for being a NATO ally, especially since they are replacing their military equipment with Russian and Chinese gear.

Every now and then, we were told to stay on base when I was stationed in Germany in the 80s due to the red army. I imagine it’s much more unsafe for service members to leave base when they’re overseas today. I’m glad they’re safe.

I forgot one thing from my last post. I was in the US Navy and pulled into Izmir in 1996. I wonder if the Marines got short changed at what was called "The compound" were Turkish women worked off the debts of their family on thier backs.
If you simply look for the "Hood event" , you will see why this happened. Turkish people are one of the most patriotic nations in the world and even without considering left or right wing, most people respect and love their soldiers and would die for their country. Military service in Turkey, unlike USA, is not considered as a job but simply a debt to your own country. Every turkish men goes to serve in military; and because of this everyone would consider the soldiers as their sons or brothers. Even most of the Turkish people would know and accept the famous march: "Every Turk is born as a soldier."
Anyways, the protesters were members of "Turkish Youth Association" which is a youth group following the rules and principles of the founding father Mustafa Kemal. They were simply avenging our own soldiers; and anytime US marines comes to Turkey, they will always face the same reaction. They humiliated Turkish military once, and now they have been humiliated over and over again, simply by a handful of Turkish youth; mostly high-school students.
There goes the US tourism business. We will never book anything in Turkey.

This is not uncommon, happened to sailors I served with in '92. One was an absolutely horrible attack on a one guy that left him near death for weeks, bad head trauma.
We lost a sailor and 2 other beat to poop in Rio desionero in March 1978. Man the woman of Rio are in fact the most beautiful in the world. One night at a brothel for want of a better word. I had a blond followed by a brunette and the cudegraw was a rather average( compare to the other 2) redhead. OMG she was a pro. I mean after emptying myself into other 2 beauties this girl absolutely had my my knees shaking and I had a full on fire hydrant load in minutes. My God that was my bestest memory of my 4 years in the Navy by a mile.

Active Military Forces do not do actions on American soil unless its a EXTREME circumstance its kinda ties into the 3rd amendment. That why National guard responds and not Active duty. If your thinking Coast Guard think again they are Dept of Transportation not DoD.
@@EnlistedBombin it hasn't been under DoT since 2003. The USCG is part of the Dept of Homeland Security during peacetime but control can be transferred to the DoD (Dept of Navy specifically) on order of the CinC or Congress.

they probably went somewhere that was off limits they always give you a pamplet with areas to avoid due to unsafe conditions or general distaste for visitor especially Americans in times like these we always got a report and a print out of places to avoid and what areas or city limits to stay in. during my deployment there were several times we didnt even pull into port because of global stability issues. this was a command issue they should have known better.

For the reference, head Hooding is a reference that took place on the 4th of July 2003 the Turkish Soldiers in Northern Iraq were captured and head hooded during their transfer to prison Turks felt humiliated so the Turks use this as a reference, and in every event, they hoode the heads of US soldiers to humiliate.

It does not excuse a beating by a mob but as an ex navy person, most marines are not angels when they go out on liberty, they usually want two things drinks and women ( navy no different). My ship pulled into Izmir was not bad town for Turkey, we mainly hung out at this hotel that us airforce people lived in.

When I worked out of the Embassy, Turkey was then called a “high-threat area.” This was probably the reason that the only US personnel traveling in uniform rode a chartered bus from “point A” to “point B.” One morning, after being in uniform for a couple of hours, I had need to drive from “point B” to the Embassy, and before I could so do, my boss stopped me and said, “Uh, NO!
