The greatest of all time!! He had a room full of great artists in the palm of his hand with just a microphone. No dancers, lights etc… just raw talent!!! RIP Mr. Vandross
Luther took Dionne Warwick's"A house is not a home",and made it into a masterpiece. She looks very pleased.
Mr. Vandross you are missed.R.I.P.
Luther is one of the greatest R&B singers to ever live.
And I got to see him at Wembley 💓.
Not even r&b just singers
Sam Cooke #1, Luther Vandross #2, David Ruffin #3. Just my opinion.
@@donnasharpe3451 why don't you try out some justin timberlake singing with chris stapleton. Just finding out about these 2 although they have been singing togethe for a while and it's the best thing I've heard in years.
@@donnasharpe3451 ....you forgot MARVIN GAYE...
Yes...he was the Denzel of Singers. We all loved him!
Nope... Denzel was the Luther of acting. Ha!
Luther's voice was the whole show. He didn't need to dance. He didn't need to play instruments. He just needed to stand in front of a microphone.
I could tell she had no idea how great Luther Vandross’ voice was. I bet she’s a believer now! That’s the great Dionne Warwick who sang this song first and was also one of Luther’s mentors.
The lady is Dionne Warwick. And Luther Vandross was honoring her by singing her hit songs. She collaborated with Burt Bacharach to record some classic songs. You gotta react to her songs like Walk On By, Don't Make Me Over, Anyone Who Had A Heart, A House Is Not A Home, and many more.
Love the legendary Ms. Dionne Warwick, especially when she's singing Burt Bacharach/Hal David hits!
@@Calamity_Jack Yes indeed!
Thanks for crediting Bacharach and David, without them the world would be emptier of beautiful songs.
@@cazcarr2002 So true! Their music will live forever.
RIP Burt Bacharach who wrote so many evergreens with Hal David
This is my favorite Luther performance. He was so smooth.
Guys, This was a salute to Dionne Warwick, she recorded this in 1964, and Luther recorded it and she was one of his best friends and biggest backers in the business. I saw him live twice and the man could leave women crying in their seats, I saw it twice live, the man was really incredible and this live was something to behold
And Dionne, if I'm correct, is Whitney Houston's aunt.
Me to to date still my favourite artist off all time
@@subymanvince
Dionne and Whitney are first cousins; their mothers are sisters.
@@DanielleGillmoreJohnson Thank you for clarifying!
@@subymanvince
You're welcome. 🙂
Dionne Warwick, (pronounced Dee on) first recorded this song in 1964. It’s a classic song and Dionne is a huge rabbit hole that you should explore. Many, many great hits throughout the 60’s & 70’s. Luther was one of a kind, we used to call singers like him panty droppers. 😊
Dionne Warwick is not only one of the greatest singers ever with hit after hit, she is Whitney Huston Auntie. Was the principal singer for Grammy and Oscar winner song writer Burt Bacharach. Dionne Not only R&B but pop multi grammy winner.
Whitney and Dionne are first cousins. Their mothers were sisters.
@@daleb1279facts and they also descend from The Drinkard Sisters with a distant cousin in opera goddess Leontyne Price(another Drinkard Sister descendant)
I am a 72 yr. old white dude from 'MoTown' / Det. grew up on both hard rock and R&B/ Soul. I truly believe 'Luther' is the overall greatest singer of all time. Just my opinion.
Luther had the best voice ever. Wish I’d seen him live. Grew up with him playing in the house and listen to him to this day.
Luther was great, big or small he had it all.
He sure did.
This what pure talent and no auto tune looks like.
Fabulous song and wonderful.tribute to Dionne Warwick. I have the recorded version of this song in heavy rotation on my playlist. Dionne is a wonderful singer in her own right. She originally released this song in the 60s but Luther took it and made it his own. Walk on By is a hit of hers definitely worth a listen
Reminds me of the song "Who's Lovin' You" originally sung by Smokey Robinson....until lil' Michael Jackson took it to another level.
I absolutely love Luther such an amazing talent. My heart was broken when we lost him.
❤❤❤❤miss him. What a voice.
Omg. Luther. Love forever from the UK. That voice. Unapparalled.
My gosh,Luther!!!
I always cry hearing him sing this song, such an incredible voice and talent R.I.P ❤❤❤
I’ve been a Luther fan for decades, and someone else who’s right up there with him is DONNY HATHAWAY ❤️
Remember this y'all, that's that power of love it's all of that and more .... . 💯% I guarantee you that!!!!❤😅😮
The woman on the screen is Dionne Warwick. She first recorded this song in the 60's. Luther remade this song with his own take. Actually, made his version the new standard. She and Luther are great friends.
Ms Dionne Warwick is a true legend in the music industry. I understand the not knowing her but Im sure you have heard her songs. She was a major influence in the 60's 70's You might try to react to some of her hits. Do you know the way to San Jose, Walk on by, Wishing and Hoping, Then Came you (With the Spinners) , I say a little Prayer, Deja Vu many others. Loved Luther and all his vocal inflictions and his tone was amazing. Miss that voce on the radio. Great reaction guys and as always Stay safe and much love.
I loved him and every song he sang is my favorite!! Lol! ❤❤
Oh, my heart! Luther is THE Man!
What a beautiful song and he had such an amazing voice
When there were real male singers
There are still some amazing voices out there, but Luther was a singular talent for sure.
I grew up on this style of music. After this era relationships changed forever. They expressed true love thru music!
Y’all were so mesmerized😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
We had some icons by in the day, beautiful music!
Besides the Genius of Luther Vandross credit where credit is due this was another Gem out of the Burt Bacharach Hal David Songbook.
Give a listen to Luther’s DANCE WITH MY FATHER, it’s a beautifully sad song.
I can’t listen to that song without out crying. Makes me miss my dad.
It’s pure beauty in that song ❤
Dionne Warwick - who originally sang this song in the 60’s. Luther is the best. I could listen to him all day every day. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 (pronounced dee-on)
Little Luther is good but big Luther is something special
Luther Vandross was also one of her back up singers and she helped him step out in front. She took him under her wing and helped to promote his career. He was and is the GOAT!
The Masterful mr Luther Vandross
Speaking of Denzel he was actually in the crowd lol so many great people we had before us to show us greatness!
Mesmerizing voice ! Love ! Love ! Luther Vandros RIP. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Bruh… Luther is up there playing with people! 💯 LIVE… LIVE!!!!
Luther is paying tribute to Dionne Warwick sitting in the audience, she is a wonderful singer from 60’s - 80’s, I believe she is a relative of Whitney Houston 🎉 Both Luther & Dionne ( pronounced Dee On)are very popular rb singers 💜💎💎💎💎
A lot of babies been made by this man Jesus
She Won't Talk To Me is a great dance song!!
Luther and Teddy Pendergrass were living legends
The woman they keep showing is Dion Warwick and the song is her song
Bruh look. Back when Luther was in his prime??? He was untouchable
Her name is Dionne Warwick the cousin of whitney houston and luther is singing her song that she originally sung in the 60's
Effortlessly!!!
Dionne Worrick hired him as a background singer, but told him he was too good to be a background singer and needed to go solo. SO she was looking at him performance, I'm sure with a sense of joy for him.
It’s a tribute to Dionne Warwick.
She made a house is not a home first. She is luther's mentor
Luther is my favorite all time male artist, its sad that he had to live his life in the closet and not be open to live his life and express himself, never be afraid to be who you are.
I went to his concert when touring with Vanessa Williams. Sounds just like record...
Luther is forgotten so easily. Prince could hit that high note. Luther does warm smooth deep voice. Men weren't threatened by either. Both were big in 70 and 80s for RB making babies music. He's singing to Dionne Warwick
I've seen Luther and Prince Live... You can't compare them. Luther's vocals are so special, perfection. Prince was a genius musician and entertainer, up there as a king. More talented than Jacko and his variety too.. played a guitar like Hendrix, but piano and anything..
His performance with Mariah Carey just sensational ..... Rip Luther
Luther started out as Dionne Warwick (the woman in the audience - who they are honoring) background singer. She encouraged him to come out of the shadows and when he finally did he blew the top off of the world! Everyone wanted Luther to sing the phonebook to them and we would still pay top dollar for it.
David Bowie and Roberta Flack.
Incorrect. Luther is her mimic.
Roberta Flack fired him when he sang backup for her and told him he was too good to be singing backup for anybody and go out there and do your thing and be a star.
Yes he resemble my daddy so much 👍😊❤
The lady that keep showing is the legendary singer Dionne Warwick. She's Whitney Houston's auntie. She discovered Luther when he was singing background vocals for her. She gave him his chance as a solo artist
To watch her eyes and mouth, this is what Luther did to women.
I remember taking a girl I just was getting to know to a Luther concert and she absolutely attacked me afterward. He sounded just like the albums, just like here.
I feel old now that these two have no idea who Dionne Warwick is!!
She is Aunt to Cissy Houston who is Whitney Houston Mom.....and is in the top 3 charting on the Billboard 100 of female artists in the Rock Era.
I will never love this way again is one of her hits.....and this song, (A House is Not a Home) was one of her songs. Luther is doing a version of it.
This was a tribute to her and Luther was a big fan....
Even doing a famous duet with her..."How Many Times Can We Say Goodbye"......
Surprised they did not recognize a young Janet Jackson in the audience since they had a Michael album behind them.
The lady in the inset is Dionne Warwick!!! Who first recorded the song, And is Whitney Houston's aunt!!!
My grandmother and mother Aunty was in love 😻 with Luther had everything from him lol 😂 I just grew up in it now this my shit now I’m older
It still hurts to think he left us too soon. Had tickets to see him in Detroit and on the day of the concert it was cancelled due to I’ll health. He is singing with the Angels now. 💔💔
A LEGEND. LIKE VELVET
Por que não é legendado?
He was actually called the Velvet voice ❤
She is Dionne Warwick a wonderful singer in her own right, she sang this originally. She is also Whitney Houston's cousin.
Luther was great. So is Peabo (Pee - bow) Bryson he sang Beauty and the Beast with Celine Dion and Feel the Fire.
The Lady is Dionne Warwick, Whitney Houston's 1st cousin. Big time ins the music industry in her own rights.
After this performance Dionne wholeheartedly concluded this to be his song instead of hers. Such great respect of two top artists up there.
Killed it is all i can say!!!
Dionne (Dee'on) Warwick is Whitney Houston's cousin and a well known singer in her own right. If you haven't reacted to THATS WHAT FRIEND'S ARE FOR, then please do so. I think she originally sang that song in the 60's and Luther sang in tribute to her at the NAACP awards. I think she was being honored. I'm not sure about all of that. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
that lady is Dionne Warrick, also the younger girl they showed about half way through is Janet Jackson.
Luther was sooooo smooth
The lady the incomparable Dionne Warwick who this Lady was the first to have a hit with this great song. a tribute to her by the incredible Luther Vandross an out and proud gay man. pure magic!
That woman who is a great performer in her own right, is Dionne Warwick (pronounced Dee-on War-- park) added note, she was with the Motown label and was the first cousin of star, Whitney Houston
The woman they constantly keep showing on the screen is the legendary and Iconic singer Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston's Cousin). This was a tribute to Dionne Warwick. She sang this song first in the 60s. Dionne and Luther were close friends.. Please don't sleep on this woman. She is amazing and had a lot hit songs from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Here is a song that was slept on but her vocal skills are insane on this song, especially towards the end....Now, I know from whom Whitney Houston learned some of her vocal skills. Check it out.... the song may not appeal to you but the voice, the voice... ruclips.net/video/7GajBieEdcA/видео.html
"Is that his Mama?" LMAO No girl I know you you didn't go there! Lolol
The woman is singer Dionne Warwick, pronounced De-yon, who had originally recorded that song in the 60's. This was a tribute to her at this award show. She is also the aunt of Whitney Houston. Check out her big hit from the 90's called "That's What Friends are For", a collaboration with Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight.
Luther Vandross is legendary! He was gay man who never came out because he was afraid of what the world would think of him. Dionne Warwick is a legend herself! The song Luther is singing is a remake which was originally sang by Donnie Warwick. I believe she first sang it back in the 1960s.
That's Dionne Warwick they keep showing!!! I named my oldest daughter Dionne after her!!!! Way way way back then when Dionne was big in the charts, I loved her songs!! And it's pronounced dee- 'awn!
Dionne Warwick the lady they showed. You have reacted to her at least once when you reacted to We Are The World she was one same grouping as Willie Nelson and if you have react to "Thats what Friends are For " she had Elton John , Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder singing with her.
Luther era muito cativante bonito ea voz dele era fenomenal e deixou muita saudade ❤❤❤❤
Dionne (“Dee-on”) Warwick -lifetime friend and originated the song.
The lady is Dionne Warwick she originally wrote the song Luther Vandross made it to huge hit
Dionne Warwick accomplished fame in the early 60's singing for the great songwriter Burt Bacharach. Burt and Hal David wrote this tune. Dionne was instrumental in assisting with getting Luther started in his career in 1980. Luther had been a backup singer to so many recordings, when he got his big break to record his own album.
Hey, keep jammin' on those drums bruh!!!
How he pronounced "Dionne" had me rolling!😂
Young people, young people you need to give that lady a standing ovation 👏🏾 ❤ . That the lady who owns that song , Dionne Warwick
Luther 🔥🔥🔥❤❤❤👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Unmatched. Unparalleled. And missed ✊🏾
Hey yall I’m just watching your video and it’s nice to see people who never saw this before watching it. I remember seeing it as kid live. The woman is Dionne Warwick and the reason they keep showing her is that’s originally HER song. Luther took that song & totally revamped it to his style & well made it his own. The look on her face basically is…this man took MY song and made it a masterpiece lol. She always said she couldn’t believe what he did to that song that used to be hers lol. ✌🏽
A lot of babies got made to Luther Vandross music. You put his songs on when you wanted to set the mood. ❤❤
Luther got your girl tripping. He bout to get her 😂
No auto tune in this. Unbelievable talent.
That is Dionne Warwick she recorded that song first in the early sixties she is the cousin of Whitney Houston
Grew up on Luthor. Nobody fantasized about him. All yall generation were just conceived to b his songs 😂😂. We called it baby making music😮😮
The lady is no other than Dionne Warwick
I love Luther and his song Dancing with my Father made my sister forgive our father. Music is so powerful! This is the best version of this song! ❤❤❤❤❤❤Dion Warwick!
I’m in the U.K….me & my kids went to see him twice in concert in the 80’s. The first time in the round, was brilliant. 2nd time we were a bit up in the gods but still…and always…brilliant. RIP Luther ❤️
P.S. he was gay
P.S it was Dionne Warwick, not his momma
Luther was just showing off..one of the best live solo performances.
As mentioned somewhere else
in the replies you owe it to yourselves to delve into the Burt Bachrach and Hal David songbook. Incredible songwriting. Classic.
Dionne Warwick… she originally recorded the song beck in the ‘60’s or early 70’s. It was “her” song. And she’s Whitney Houston’s cousin.
She had a number of hits, mostly written by Burt Bacharach.
And while the women in the audience may have been swooning over Luther, he had no interest in them. Ahem.
You know you are something special when those who went before you are applauding your performance and losing it at the same time.
That's what friends are for...with Dione Warwick and Gladys Knight... is off the hook 🪝 😂... and Whiskey and you Chris Stapleton 😊
