Fantastic fish for beginners and for advanced hobbyist who'd like to explore the huge world of their genetics. We need more Endler lovers! :)
So true
Do you think enders or regular guppies are more hardy?
The first fish i ever had were endler-guppies and i still keep and love them 11 years later :D
you had endler's 11 years ago? are sure they weren't simply wild type guppies?
they were mixed with regular guppies but had black bar endler blood
+alex smith I had them as of 10 years ago. They were introduced into the hobby in 1975, do it's very reasonable
i am sure you had them. but it just seems unusually to have them as your first fish 11 years ago, like this guys says. but i guess, everything is possible. i have ran across a few people who seem to think that feeder or wild guppies are endlers))). also, do a lot of people keep Micropoecillia sp? i've seen them in Aqualog book, but never for sale anywhere
I live in germany endlers livebearers or poecilia wingei have been around for ever they just were not sold in stores until 5 or 6 years ago now every good fish store has them in stock. And before they were available at hobby auctions or (i dont know if there is a fitting english word for it) it's like conventions for hobbyists where clubs or private breeders sell and exchange their fish.
I picked up a dozen of these guys the other day and I'm absolutely in love with them. They look amazing swimming through the plants
Awesome vid - love your species spotlights!
I agree. Love your species profiles. Also love you did the Endlers. I enjoy livebearers and smaller fish. Killis and Bettas. Great job keep up the good work.
yay! Thanks for this video! I was waiting for you to do a video on this species, so thank you for this one and thanks for doing what you do!
Love your information about these fish. Thank you. I recently picked some up and absolutely love them
My all time favorite fish and the one I have the most of and specialize in including orchid endlers. Great video and enjoyed this.
Thank You. Just bought myself a few in the last few weeks and they look amazing. never thought I'd like them before now but my local aquarist sneaked a free one into my bag of cherry shrimp and since then, I had get more. Beautiful fish...
I love my Endlers they are great fish. Mine will swim around my hand when I am doing maintenance. They are really friendly for such a small fish.
love your video of everything about fish and those Endler's are just beautiful the males are so so colorful just love them
I thought that was well done! I discovered them just after deciding upon the least killifish for a new tank, as my tanks are inside unheated. Swamp River Aquatics helped me understand more about the endlers as well. They are in trouble, good on aquarium care givers for maintaining true lines! Thank you!
Great video Rachel! Way to go.
Some RUclipsrs focus too much on themselves. I like how you focus on the fish
Finally scored both male AND female Japanese blues to start a colony! Heavy on males but had to get them!!!! So excited for this new adventure, I tried live bearers when I started but had no luck. Excited to give it a go as an experienced keeper!
Wow Rachel I love the Specie profiles!
I learn so many new species because of you!
You really inspired me!
_Keep up the good work!_
*Thumbs up!*
+Danny's Aquariums thanks danny
Thanks Rachel! Very informative video.
They are my favorite livebearers. I'll always have at least two tanks of them for the rest of my life.
hi rachel, i have endlers and love them , great for a nano tank and very active and colourful, great video thanks.
Got some today. So beautiful!
Every tank should have some Endlers! Such a hardy little fish with amazing colours(males) and lively!
Great video! Just bought my first Endler today.
Years ago my neighbor gave me some of his guppies. Now I know they were actually Endlers. The males are very attractive with those bright colors. They had this interesting behavior where two males would face each other and touch their noses to the bottom like they were having a sparring dance. Maybe I didn’t have enough females in there for them to bother.
Most informative video about endlers on YT!
These have to be everyone's favourite fish 🤗🤗🤗
Great video! The endlers are lovely!
I got some class N endlers for my 10 gallon tank, which originally started out as just a place to start plant cuttings from my bigger aquarium. Love the little guys - but they are hell on plants! Ate and tore up all the moneywort, pennywort and vallisneria
You did The Endler Video! ..you are always talking about how you have fish in with the Endlers and I have never, known what Endlers you were keeping lol.. Great Videos Rachel. ☺
Just discovered you, binging on your videos. You make fantastic content. Thank you & keep it up! 😀
Welcome! :)
great video, I think endlers are beautiful.
Hye Rachel. I am from Malaysia and I caught them before from my house's drains. :P
I got some endler/guppy mixes at Petco, sold as guppies, and are they ever spectacularly beautiful now that they have been in the tank for a month. Their colors are truly breathtaking. I am wary of genetic mixes too, but when I was picking out fish, the manager assured me that if they'd been sold to her as guppies, then guppies they must be, but as they have grown, they definitely are exhibiting endler's genetic characteristics of markings, coloration, and body conformation. Thanks for highlighting these amazing fish.
My favourite is the endlers livebearer.
A cautionary tale indeed. Those Green Lightning endlers I bought from you a few months back? well... lets just say there's a few more than 10 now :p
My first foray into livebearers, too.I knew they could be prolific like guppies, but dang.
hahaha, good job! :D
Ameca Splendens boy they make endlers seem barren.
I just got 6 endler males to breed with my guppies. I plan to have a guppy/endler pond next summer. I don't plan to sell fish so bastards don't bother me and I'm looking forward to the diversities. Great video Rachel!
I love your videos!
well I absolutely love live bearers ! and I've been eyeballing endlers my place carries for a few weeks but they don't seem to be very healthy which is discouraging for me
I am from Venezuela, when I was a child in my city San Cristobal in any creek they were obtained, we fish them and put them in glass containers with plants in a short time they did not fit, because of how prolific they are. Recently I went to run in a place near my city famous for having a hot springs resort, and next to the parking lot there was what looked like stagnant water very low and maybe dirty, I was surprised to see that it was full of these beautiful fish and it brought back memories of my childhood with a plastic cup. Now that I see your video I want to make in my house a big pond with fish from my region and put in these fish also a cichlid that we call "viejitas" very similar to the ramirezis and maybe some kind of catfish from the region. I hope in a while to tell you my experience and why not offer these specimens and have my own reservoir.
Those are amazing fish!!
thank you
Got my first look at these guys several months back at my friends store. The males (and there were ONLY males, leading me to believe some wholesalers ship just males) were like more fantastically colored versions of male wild/feeder guppies. Probably would've bitten had there actually been females available. But really don't think I want to go the livebearer route again. GREAT info on these videos and had no idea that there were some out there that were not "pure". Also didn't know about their threatened status in the wild. Ty and keep the great info coming!
Hi Rachel.
I've learned that the pregnant spot on the females bellies are visible even when they're not pregnant. Just a note to another nice vid.
do you have a video on PH and how to harden or soften water according to specific species needs?
some crushed coral gravel in your filter will raise the PH
another useful species spotlight,,, lets see if these little things are as productive as the white clouds :)
Hey Rachel. love your species spotlights. Could you start giving the temperature ranges in Celsius aswell as Fahrenheit please? :-) keep up with the great vids.
+Robert Dowson I can try, but it's easy to Google (which is what I would have to do). I also put it in the description for future reference or for further research
I wonder how do you do in an aquaponics system. With the range of temperatures they can take and the fact they breed like crazy , it seems like a very logical choice.
Tnx homie
I just set up a heavily planted endler tank.
I love Poecilia obscura!
I recently got two pairs of these! They are young and haven't had fry yet! Wow, so surprised and pleased to see someone mention them, lol :)
bronwenism theyre cool little fish and the multiply like crazy so wait just a week or 2 and there should be plenty. i got mine from my local fish auction. Came with about 30 and there are probably 50+ in my 29 gallon now.
Awesome
My 20 gallon is full with red tiger endler great little fish
I would like to to mention that water temperature when breeding, or should I when they're swimming, will determine the ratio of male and female fry, according to LFS employee.
It won't be long til the container ponds can get set up the way this weather is going. You can breed thousands of endlers then
I have Black Flame Endlers which I found out are a hybrid but what I have breeds true.
I love my little Endler's. I like the one I saw in your first tank you showed us, the yellow and orange one. I don't have any like that. I think that was the only colors on him, which I find strange, but beautiful. All my males are wearing about 5 different colors. Do you think that one is rare, maybe? It was an Endler's, right?
Anyhow, I must have perfect water for them which is very hard and Ph of normally 8.0 to 8.5. And I agree totally with you. They are immensely adaptable. And unfortunately I didn't keep mine separated from my guppies so...I have hybrids. But I have to say, they are amazingly beautiful and extremely colorful! Um, and yes very prolific! :) Anyhow, thanks for another video. Always a pleasure to watch and to check out your fish room.
I love endlers, I have class n type 7 :)
I have a guppy trio 🐠🐟🐠 thanks for the video
I'm working on getting what guppies I have going I just need more plants for them to breed
I have a dew anachris plants but they died back but their returning back to normal it's just taking
a little time for the plants to get FULL again I'm on my way to getting more plants today 4-them.
I’m setting up a 40 gallon breeder species tank for some.
I love guppies 😍
Bravo from Romania Europa
What would you use to raise hardness in a planted tank without sending the pH through the roof ?
I have soft water, but ph is about 7. Was thinking of adding a little crushed coral to the substrate.
Any ideas ?
These were feeder guppies. I use to buy them 100 for $3.50 at Fishtown USA. Now, they're $4.50 a pair.
Endlers are fantastic species of livebearer. It's sad that they're so critically endangered in the wild, but the line bread varieties we have available to us are stunning! I bought my snakeskin orchid endlers off orchidendlers.com. They're a amazing species of livebearer and the best money I've spent on livestock thus far into the hobby.
JediSuPhu p
Those are cool fish! How hard is it to document that you have Class N so you can sell as such?
Also, my spring break is coming up so I'm going to earn some money. How many of the Silver Kuhlis do you have left?
hey
I’m getting some endlers from a local hobbyist soon. I’m very torn about whether to get all mails or a mixture of males and females.
On the one hand, I love the idea of being able to see the baby fish. On the other hand, they reproduce so rapidly but I don’t want to be overrun with them. I’m trying to find if there is a good compatible tankmate that would eat many of the fry but not disturb the adults? It would have to be something fairly small, this is just a 10 gallon tank. Thank you!
any advice on how to get my thai spider crab to grow it's claws back? she lost them during a molt months ago.
these just popped up in my local pet chain store xx pets at home in UK
Would you recommend keeping Endler's with neocaridina shrimps ?
hey, my home water is pretty hard. I can't keep tetra's because of it. (I use to before we moved)
I've got a K class colony in a 30-gallon long along with cherry shrimp and they seem to be doing great together I'm actually seeing more shrimp production out of that tank than my 10-gallon dedicated shrimp colony tank. But my question is about guppy grass I thought you mentioned it in this video but when I rewatched it perhaps not. Do you do much with Najas species grass? Currently the tank is planted with a couple of Anubis specimens an African water Fern just getting established. Several mixed crypto's and floating Brazilian pennywort. What's your feeling on Najas grass in general?
I bought 25 feeder guppies and the males look all like endlers. I think they’re hybrids Because the ones I have look just like one of the ones in your class p endlers
How strange, I just started a Endlers Breeding for profit tank this week. :-) 50 Gallon. Great Video Rachel!
Zacks Tanks Crazy Aquarium Guy where are you going to sell them?
emmie943 My local Fish store owner will buy them.
If I am breeding for profit, I usually get a buyer before I start. 😊
Looking for N Class Endlers right now.
Rachel I need help asap
My guppy gave birth. Should I take out the guppies that aren't pregnant.
Are these compatible with white clouds in a nano tank?
What type of dwarf cichlid did you say was in there? I can't seem to hear it clearly.
can i keep endlers with kuhli loaches and honey gourami
how do you differentiate a female endler from a female guppy?
Difference between endler guppy female and regular guppy female?
Thank you for another wonderful video!
I've been recently considering getting a twig catfish (farlowella catfish). What are your thoughts on these guys?
+cheesburgerlolcats A they are awesome, I have some here
Will you be doing a species spotlight on these guys? They are so fascinating :)
+cheesburgerlolcats A eventually!
Thank you for the disclaimer about not keeping these with other live bearers. I added a breeding trio of fancy guppies to a tank where I already had 5 silver bullet endlers males, after receiving assurances from the LFS that they would be ok together. They pestered both female guppies to an early death in about two days. They're in a tank with gourami now, and they still "puff" themselves up to the females, but they are ignored by the larger fish.
Benjamin Ashworth Endler males can be viscous when they're feeling randy. mine fought and one died, he got his head ripped off..
Are they like mosquito fish?
Hi Rachel. I absolutely love your channel! I'm really interested in starting my first tank and was originally thinking a beta sorority tank but i really like these guys! Is it ok to just have females or just have males? Would you recommend this species only to people who want to breed?
Male only endler tanks are very popular as they are tiny, colorful, and lively. The females are generally pretty drab looking, so not a popular choice, though there is no reason you couldn't do it. These guys breed so readily, they are appropriate for anyone interested.
Rachel O'leary thank you!!
Will these ever be up for sale or do you know any place? I've been looking around
bought mine at the lfs for 20 cents each. feeders
Hey Rachel! I love you videos, and I have a question for you. I am planning on getting a fluval spec v with plenty of anubias and low grow. I would like to know what schooling fish you would recommend for this little tank. I know I could get a betta, but as you and I both know, that is just the tip of the iceberg. I am experienced, I have had over 4 different 10 gallons and would like to know your opinion. Thank you!
+Adeline Dering boraras all day long!
+Rachel O'leary Thanks!
do the danios help keep fry numbers in check?
I’m wondering about this also!
Alguém sabe me dizer se tem alguma loja de Aquário no Rio de janeiro q vende guppy endler?
I have a tank full of red tiger endlers
Greetings you sell them you make shipments to Florida I'm interested
Almost 100% certain the male at 4:30 is not an endler, so yes, that one is a hybrid tank. The toughest part, imho, is the females. It's very difficult to identify females properly.
would microdevarios, red rasboras and neons live well in a bare bottom - but with plants - tank?
id love to have a black wall, minimal tank to contrast with their colors, but only if it doesnt influence their life qualitu
+Fabio B thry do fine bare bottom but don't always exhibit their most vivid coloration
Rachel O'leary i understand, thank you very much :) i will consider it when deciding
wonderful videos, keep up the good work! :)
Rachel,
How do you prevent inbreeding in such a setup? Is it considered a problem with these fish?
+Pawel Pieluszynski it shouldn't be an issue for many generations but there is a registry of breeder/kepper if you wanted to add more genetic diversity. Careful culling and starting out with a good sized group is also helpful
hey Rachel I'm starting a 10 gallon planted tank and I want to make it a community tank I know that's hard with a small tank but I'm wondering if you have stocking suggestions including plants
+Banana Bus I wrote a whole book about it hahahaha.
Mine got the worms (Cal)
I got some Endler's Lifebearers (Mixed breed) a while ago and now one of my females got some fry. This thank doesn't have that much room and the only other aquarium I got contains a goldfish. Help? Is it okay to sell them even though I'm not a professional breeder?
+DragonLovingGirl6 you don't need to be a professional, fish clubs are also a fantastic way to sell or trade fry
Ok so I got a black female guppy and say one of these guys in the same tank with her when I was buying them and the guy said he dident know what it was so I took him and he was really small and I thought he was a baby and then my black female started to get fat and I thought I was over feeding and stuff and then I came to the conclusion that she’s pregnant and right when I gave up on that thought she was giveing birth and the little endler (which I now know what it is) was always around this female plus it was in a only female tank lol I can’t wait to see what they will look like tho because I can already tell some are bigger then others and some are hella small so I’m also kinda scared
Are these fish compatible with harlequin rasboras
yes, though harlies may eat the smallest fry
whats the name of that mini lilypad plant around 4:25? i have it!
+Skurr Durr Brazilian pennywort

Rachel O'leary have you ever tried them out in a new tank? (not on mature media and fish less cycled which is often what a beginner starts with) they were absolutely rubbish in mine ! Great looking fish but croaked it rapidly
Rachel O'leary fancy guppies
Endlers, fancy guppies and wild types!! :)
Carlos Díez Yes Carlos you are so right! I love your strains the most😁😁😁
So far we only have fancy guppies (dragon tail to be specific).
We had 6 but one died Saturday morning due to me not doing enough research combined with a change in water hardness from the municipality.
Endlers or mollies are likely next on the list when our new tank finishes cycling.
