    My grandma makes this and my mom did and we’re Mexican (my grandma lived with a Cuban woman for a while and taught her the recipe) and she’d put beer in it while it was cooking and it’s amazing one of my favorite foods ever

    Thank you for making this video! Growing up, my neighbor was Cuban and made this for me. 30 years later, I was craving it but couldn’t find anywhere that makes it here in Chicago. Made your recipe and it’s exactly as I remember it as a child. Thank you!

      Partly why it was hard to find is because much of the Cuban community moved back to south Florida due to the tough winters in Chicago, so only the truly die hard remained. Additionally, Cuban restaurants didn't promote their unique cuisine well enough to sustain the business. Standing out in a hugely competitive retail food service market is one key to survival.

    Really excited to make this. I crave it all the time, but I live in a small town now where there isn't any real authentic Cuban style food. I was born and raised ten years in Miami, and I miss the Cuban style food so much, so hopefully I will do a good job with this recipe tonight. Thank you for uploading this video. 😁

      Olives are used in Puerto Rican arroz conPollo, not typically in Cuban arroz con pollo. Mind you I love olives and love Puerto Rican arroz con pollo. Also, Cubans use beer instead of water in arroz con pollo with red roasted pepper slices and peas on top of our finished dish as garnish.....and serve.

      Los puertorriqueños precocemos el pollo en un poco de aceite y ajo y procuramos que no se dore demasiado. No lo cocinamos completamente porque puede secarse si se cocina demasiado. Luego añadimos nuestro sofrito y lo cocinamos un rato con el pollo etc.

    Hi, How long did it cook?

    • @marlenea2020
      @marlenea2020  3 года назад +1

      Hi Julia, cook for about 15 minutes on medium heat once the main ingredients are in, (the chicken and the rice). You want to make sure the chicken is completely cooked and the rice is tender. Try not to stir it once you have added the rice, until the end that you add the peas and the beer. Hope this was helpful, thank you so much for watching!!!

    • @marlenea2020
