Being Italian brought up on the traditional Mediterranean diet in Australia, not the westernised version.my mother has always cooked mostly with water, then adding a drizzle of olive oil over the food once the heat is turned off...so we have mostly eaten raw olive oil.& Fried very little.my grandparents on both sides lived into their their mid 90's.but we were not brought up eating much meat nor very often.my parents ate meat on average once a month, back in the day..in the region they grew up in.milk was not given to children after the age of 5,& cheese was eaten sparingly,& was home made.cheese was not eaten in the large quantities as it is eaten today basically due to unavailability & poverty.even the Italians in italy now days eat much more cheese than their ancestors.
cook with water, I like the concept ~
Amazing. This diet sounds exactly like the so called "Blue Zone Diet" which is basically a "Mediterranean Diet". It is a perfect longevity diet that keeps together with a lot of excercise, low stress, high family engagement and a solid purpose of life feeling people healthy until 100 years old.
@@hsayli yes, from the south of Italy very similar.
I’ve lost 50 lb two different times using the Mastering Diabetes concepts so I am convinced that this is the fast and easy way to lose weight and reverse diabetes type two and insulin resistance. All my numbers like A1C, blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol are now normal range after being “off the chart” abnormally high. It works for me.
Do you use any oil? If so, what type?
@@jaym9846 no SEED oils is the key. They are highly processed in general and with deadly chemicals typically and definitely do not cook with any oils at high temperatures above 160 degF
Fish and olive oil are my main fats.
Olive oil is still 14% saturated fat, which will change the polarity of your red blood cells making sticky to each other, it also makes them rigid undermining their ability to create nitric oxide. I think it's due to the other high intake of veggies and fruits that the Mediterranean diet is healthier than the standard diets, so despite the olive oil, not because of it. But it's good to know it's the least harmful oil out there.
Olive oil slides plaque off the arteries and prevents plaque from sticking in the first place and has Oleocanthal which destroys cancer cells.
So, babies are growing and need extra saturated fat from their moms. We're in maintenance as adults most of the time, all that extra dietary saturated fat does us bad. We are able to make saturated fat locally whenever our bodies need it (from simple sugars no less). @@BeefMalPassado
This is the first time I'm hearing that SFAs make blood cells stickier and reduce NO. Where can get more info?
I’d much rather just eat the whole olive.
How about oil to cook with?
@@BeefMalPassado The pit???? Just don't bite down on it.
What about u just don’t use any oil.
Where do you get fresh/whole olives?
I really like olive oil, but it's true and it makes sense. Every time I exclude olive oil from the diet my exercise capacity improves slightly. But like all things I also think olive oil is not bad for everything and it might have powerful anti-inflammatory effects
Great presentation! Love how you are able to show that olive oil itself may not be healthy. Scientists generally agree that saturated fats is bad for you. But if saturated fats is from olive oil some how a number of them assume that it is fine.
I will use a small amount of a dressing like Rene's or similar that has some oil in it, but I don't cook with oil. These types of food are often analyzed as though they are always consumed in the right amount, ie no tendency to be addictive or contribute to potential weight gain.
My favorite dressing is a sprinkle of lime.
Very interesting and I can’t dismiss it without trying to go without olive oil for a month and see if I notice a difference
If I have not consumed any seeds ,or oil then may I avoid Olive oil for cooking or
Now I'm totally CONFUSED because I was always told that Extra Virgin Olive Oil is great for diabetics. I'm one going to cut it from my diet because I want to reverse my type 2 diabetes. How do I cook my foods on the stovetop without it? I'm so frustrated.
You did speak about 8:12 Cold Pressed Organic Olive Oil...I am a Natural Health Specialist
I never liked olive oil or avocado oil, even on my vegetables.
I'd rather eat olives and avocados, and I still don't like them that much.
But I have the ApoE4 allele, and according to Dr Steven Gundry, I not only have to get rid of saturated fat, but I have to get rid of fruits and other carbohydrates and be on low protein olive oil based keto.
Basically a lot of olive oil laced vegetables.
He says that for ApoE4s, the whole purpose of food is to get olive oil in your mouth.
And I hate it!
Where do you get fresh oils? Would those be OK?
Cyrus, what are your thoughts on cold pressed refrigerated flax oil? Gr Goldner states that it is healthy and it doesn’t block your arteries like olive oil and helps with inflammation.
SAme principle as olive oil in this video apply .. get the flax seeds, all oils damage the small artery walls.
It's all relative. Flax seed oil might be less damaging than another oil but it's not necessarily beneficial. They quickly label things "heart healthy" but they don't tell you compared to what. Like Khambatta, Esselstyn and others say, the healthier choice is to eliminate oils altogether as they are a highly refined, processed item with known health injuries (in varying degrees). I eliminated oils and don't miss them. Never realized that they dont really contribute any good flavor to my meals.
Getting dietary fat from whole foods like nuts, seeds, avocados, etc. is a much healthier option than any oil (since those whole foods with fat are unprocessed and have carbohydrates/protein/fat, fiber, vitamins/minerals; while oils have nothing but 100% fat.)
23:59 Where can I the Red/Yellow/Green Light Chart on the web?
Right here! www.masteringdiabetes.org/diabetes-nutrition-guidelines/
I’m not diabetic or plant based but I know I have to watch the oils. My body just die like them. When I die use oil I use olive or coconut.
What do we cook with?
Extra Virgin olive that’s trusted and sourced from one single origin is good for you
You put brown rice in both the green light and the yellow ight categories. Which one is it? Thanks.
Green light. I think in yellow light it was pasta made from brown rice.
I’m diabetic t2 but I can’t gain weight no matter how much I eat…any suggestions?
It's mean Ketogenic diet is bad?
I would like to see you and Dr. Berg together in a video!
Except Dr. Berg is basically a chiropractor who thinks he knows about wellness and bio hacking but he makes claims he can’t support. Cyrus would obliterate him in a debate with the SCIENCE.
@enabl3r huh no he wouldn't
@@zimmoton3698 Exactly!! That’s my point. I wasn’t the one who suggested they do a video together, keep in mind
Eat too much pufas with adecuate omega3:6 ratio can be problematic? For example eat 50 grams of walnuts that contain high amounts of linoleic acid but high amounts of alpha linolenic acid?
What about hempseed oil?
I agree and so does dr fuhrman. Oil is not good to eat. Its not a whole food. You wouldn't see our ancestors drinking a tablespoon of any kind of oil. It good to eat the uncured olive. Dr fuhrman discusses and he also discusses added salt is corrosive to the vessels and can cause hemorogic stroke. Asian get this the most
A very sound guy
i think olive oil is not healthy but olives are healthy. Oil oxidates and heat oil is very dangerous. Antioxidants in whole fruits are very beneficial
But what about olive oil that isn't used to fry?
May I avoid Olive oil, if ,I have not used any fatty food
1.5 gm of olive oil=what usable measurement? IE 1/4 tsp or what measurement?
The less fibre I eat, the better my colon performs. Fat lubricates my stool and I have none of the difficulties letting it out that I used to have when I ate more carbs and fibre.
Can olive oil help digestion?
The word inconclusive seems to sum this up
That is the key work in most studies... 🤔
I do not have diabetes, but would like to drop some weight. What if I do oil free Whole Foods plant base cooking and just added baked or broiled fish a couple times a week and wine in the evening a couple nights a week?
I'd skip the wine for sure, alcohol is never healthy and has a ton of calories to boot. Fish is very polluted with plastics, pesticides, mercury.
OMAD ~
If you wanna lose weight it's calories in vs calories out. You have to eat less calories than you burn
Don't you know that Dr. Gundry says the only reason you eat is to get olive oil in your body. Its all very confusing. Everyone has a different opinion.
Great delivery
How do i contact you?
What about Black seed oil
It's not a whole food.
Bit too much arsenic in Brown rice outer layer!…You’ll know white rice is fine as long as you are active & on a low fat plant diet so cellular insulin receptors are not fat blocked..:-).
So it depends on the definition..🤔..ok..
I love Olive Oil
No wheat on that list
Is coconut milk good for diabetes?
What about coconut oil?
Eat the coconut but the oil is super concentrated without the coconut meat.
I was grown up on coconut oil now am 63
Anyone ever did a scientific research? Post those results please.
Eating the olive may be better for you but you can't cook your food just with the olives you need the oil so common sense tell you that you still want the best oil to cook in and thats is olive oil
you can saute veggies in vegetable broth a little at a time. It works well.
base on ur explaination then u need to eat all the oil in raw .. as long as process oil in the market none of them are healthy.. that what i get from ur longstory explaination..
so u telling us alll oil in the market are not healthy due to refine process..
hope u never take any of thrm or tell some are good such as canola oil, sunflower oil, chiaseed or soy oil.. dont it also throught the highly process to get the oil ??
Zero oil zero dairy (No Bun maska)for two years
This guy sound very intelligent but that don't mean he know what he is talking about. He's looking for a pay day too.
could you please stop using music in the background.....its very disturbing when trying to listen and remember what youre saying
The best olive oil in the world is from Jaén (Spain) and, in addition, three other Spaniards are in the top 10. "Olibaeza Premium Picual Patrimonio Dorado" is the best Extra Virgin Olive Oil in the world according to the Evooleum World's 'Top guide 100' Extra Virgin Olive Oils.
I love the whole olive but I can't saute with it and for those who can stick to this strict diet, great, but God gave us all these foods for human and animal consumption, but the problem is we forgot about MODERATION and yes, he even said we could eat certain meat, after Christianity was instituted, so we need to study what God, say's is good or not and watch how happy we can be about everything in this life, including our food. 🖐️
Extra virgin olive oil. No rice whatsoever, period.
Definitely not healthy. But not as bad as butter and other sources of fat. Look at the results of ornish and esselstyn.
Your mixing oils 🛢 and information smh 🤦🏿. What is the skinny on olive oil only 🤔 not the fake brands.
THIS CHAP HAS FUNNY EYES AND OMITS BAD VIBES
OLIVE OIL IS GOOD FOR YOU. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY DOUBT.
Is olive oil healthy to cook with?
@@underated17sure is
Olive oil is unnatural and it acts like a clogging agent in the body. Your body can't process the olive without its fiber.
@@underated17 Olive oil has a low smoke point. Avocado oil would be better for cooking.
@@hotpocket5501Exactly. 👍
Cyrus, why does every discussion of this kind have to end up focusing on weight loss ? I do not need to lose any weight at all. Instead I need to put back on some weight.
Also I have a problem with the fact that you focus so much on the backdrops of processed food that you totally dismiss the benefits of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil.
Based on all the positive things you said about olive oil in general, it makes no sense at all to put it in the red light food category. By so doing it appears as though olive oil is dangerous even when it is minimally processed as is the case of extra virgin cold pressed olive oil. One thing is to promote a free oil eating regimen for reasons based on science, but to present it as though all oils including olive oils are just bad and must not be used in a healthy diet seems biased to me; to say the least. Yes, you said you're not the food police; yet you are clearly anti-oil of all kinds.
I am a new comer to your diet. I have quit cold turkey all kinds of meat, fish, eggs, milk and all dairy products, but I use extra virgin cold pressed olive oil in salads along with apple cider vinegar and spices. I watched many of your videos and I have learnt a great deal from you but I will continue to use extra virgin cold pressed olive oil in my salads twice a day (lunch and dinner) until you provide me with the irrefutable science that it will be a major impediment to reversing my insulin resistance in the next six months.
Maybe you use the olive oil it doesn’t for you and now you confusing the people who believe and like that olive oil😊
The word is HEALTHY , not healthful.
I love people who try and correct people but I wrong, "healthful" is the word he used the correct word and used it correctly
Both words are correct. Healthy describes something or someone who is already in good health. Healthful means it is conducive to good health. Dr. Khambatta emphasized the word healthful for that reason.
Just remember this. Do exactly the opposite of what this guy says and you’ll be good
Yep , I’m ketovore and have lost 50 pounds I was a type 2 diabetic and my blood lipids are looking good now but if I ate only fruits and carbohydrates and grains and little meat I would’ve never reversed type2 diabetes. Dr Sten Ekberg did a video about this guy (Speaking in this video )in this video and shredded his whole argument into. You are correct
