My understanding from listening to many of your videos and reading Mastering Diabetes is that it's really about getting the intramyocellular and intrahepatocyte lipid levels down (fat in skeletal muscle cells and liver cells), which causes the lion's share of the insulin resistance. This could take some time when following the mastering diabetes guidelines depending on many factors such as age, degree of obesity, degree of hormonal dysregulation, genetics, etc. Until intracellular lipid levels start to normalize, blood sugar can indeed spike with higher glycemic fruits, aka very ripe bananas, and starches but that will normalize quickly if one stays on the protocol. This is my understanding of that issue. Reply
So I'm guessing the book will tell you how to get rid of skeletal muscle and liver fat lipid levels to achieve eating fruits on a regular basis large amounts
Every has a different health profile and differing metabolisms. Sometimes for certain women for certain periods of time eating just butter can be exactly what they need. Everyone demanding that everyone do exactly what they do and what’s good for THEM is insane. It’s like the typical primitive warring that goes on forever and so violently between people of different religions- which is insane also and stupid. We don’t demand everyone eat their eggs like we do and we often change how we eat them. Why can’t we live more like that.
So are you saying that carbs are better for me than protein? Also Are you saying sugar spikes from any source is ok because that’s the bodies natural response but have some insulin resistance? I was led to believe that spikes are what is bad about food. Say glucose pre dinner is 105, you eat and 1 hour later glucose is now 240. Pancreas is going to produce insulin and then the glucose will drop down significantly and may even drop it below 70. Is that ok? Just trying to better understand what you are saying from what I have learned. Or should say relearned. Been a nurse for 21 years. So knowledge has changed couple times during that time frame. I grew with food pyramid system which I know killed many of good people.
My family didn’t have history of diabetes. My younger brother ate too much fruits that caused him to have type 2 diabetes fruits that such as bananas, oranges, watermelon, sugar apple ranbutan, mango and many more Asian exotic fruits because he got a idea that fruits are good for the body but the blood test shown different .He never drink, never smoke, and never go out at night he exercises 4-5 times a week and sleeps 7-9 hours a day. He eats vegetables and fish most of the days. He got diabetes because consumed too much fructoses and that glucose converter into fructose caused insulin resistant. The main driver that causes chronic diseases today is fructose. All sugar turn into fructose inside the body and causes damaging to the body organs.
Thank you for speaking the truth based on real-world experience. Several modern-day varieties of fruits have been bred specifically to have high sugar content because it sells, bananas in particular. This video has one of the most irresponsible, ill-informed messages for diabetics I have ever seen on YT, and I have seen hundreds of them.
That is also my understanding. It is fructose that causes fatty liver disease . Yes glucose converts to fructose. Cyrus says it is the fat that causes insulin resistance. It is the fat created by fructose. Fructose is only present in fruits or processed foods like sugar etc. yes there is fiber in fruit.
Hi Cyrus. Thank you for making this video. You’re incredibly knowledgeable and very good at explaining things. Excellent video, very interesting, and informative.
2 years high saturated fat keto type diet, fasting insulin is 2. Why am I so insulin sensitive when all this fat should be making me insulin resistant?
WOW! THANK YOU SO MUCH! IM INSULIN RESISTANT. I LOVE FRUIT. I NEED TO LOSE WEIGHT. CAN YOU TALK ABOUT WHY BAKING SODA IS BEING PRESCRIBED FOR DIABETICS? WHAT ABOUT APPLE CIDER VINEGAR?
Cyrus Great info! but When you say “the trick is to become LESS INSULIN RESISTANT before you begin eating the fruit “ that sounds like you’re saying hold off with eating any fruit until you have a lower glucose reading. But I sip and fruit smoothie in small amounts at various times spread out during my eating hours. And I have noticed my fasting glucose is lower. I also make sure I do yoga regularly throughout my day which helps too.
When I ate a lot of grapes last Fall, my A1c and the glucose meter readings went up. However, I really felt better and the urine pH went up to 6 to 7.4 and with less acidity my legs felt much lighter. Can't remember if I gained or last weight, though.
How long does it take for the cells of an insulin resistant individual to flush out the fat that's preventing the insulin from getting in? I suppose it depends on the amount of excess fat an individual is carrying and how much fat they are consuming. But is it a matter of weeks, months or years?
After about just 1 week I noticed improvement and started to lose weight that I couldn't lose before. I ate pasta and weight was dropping because I was vegan. Then weight stopped dropping. I still need 5 lbs to lose.
@nickbardan : I agree. Also sticking to a diet regime ie keto/carnivore/plant based etc is completely incompatible with human existence. All the micronutrients ie fats/carbs/protein are available for a reason.
Get yourself a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) that will provide you with glucose readings during two weeks and see for yourself how you respond to several food types. Best would be a continuous insulin sensor, but those are not on the market (yet).
Thank you so much for all of your informative videos! I can’t tell you how helpful they are and I feel I can trust you bc of all of your education and actual studies related to this issue. I am so scepter of fruit from years of wrong thinking. I recently got my A1C down to 5.5 from 5.7 through a WFPB diet but I’m struggling w eating fruit because it may go back up!!! Crazy thinking so thanks for all you do to educate us!!
🤔..very interesting! Pharmacist myself....the people love Ozempic! But on the long term...they need more..or stronger working Ozempic like medicine...experience learns...from patients and friends...
My husband is a pharmacist and my son studies biochemistry… fruits and vegetables and exercise is very healing to the body ..I would never take medicine to lose weight.
I think a major problem is there are all of these youtube doctors making absolute claims with completely opposite opinions leading the general public to no longer trust doctors and their institutions. Before making anymore claims they should get together , sort through the data , run experiments , have private discourse . If. No conclusion is reach simply state “we dont know for sure but our current Opinion is this this and that …subject to change at any time”
Listen to your body and learn what works best for you. However, I can tell you that eating 20 servings of fruits a day would be disastrous for me, but then again I have common sense 😂
@DarthJeremy364, why do you need for them to do this , you can experiment each dietary intervention and let your blood works decide which is right for you over a 3 to 6 months period ?
Thank you sooo much!!! I finally understand insulin resistance much better as to foods that contriibute to it along with positive calorie balance more fully (as weel as the keto/carb conflict and LONG term keto diet as being unhealthy, especially where cancer causation is concerned..
I'm T1, on a low carb but not no carb diet. I don't eat much meat. When my BG goes low, I look forward to enjoying some favorite fruits. Eating all meat is so unappealing, unhealthy long term & 🌍 unsustainable.
A lot of very good information to be sure. However given the statements made by the World Health Organization over the past few years regarding the pandemic I now put no value in anything they claim. The fact remains the system is designed to keep us sick because it's profitable.
I’ve tried to stay on this keto diet 2 years to lower insulin resistance Candida sifo and sibo. It’s not worked making me worse. All the time I’m depressed and tired.
I dod it for 2 months only but quieted when I started having pains in my liver.. more like soreness.. also didn’t make sense to me how people that have been yrs on keto still having spikes every time they eat carbs… meaning they never fix their insulin resistance. How are you doing now? How it’s your diet?
Yes, I have heard the same stuff from supposedly medical professional. They all said something different. This has lead me to not give any attention to doctors at all. They all say their scientific research backs up what they say. Well, from my experience with scientific studies the study does not deviate if the same information is considered. I am not sure how many ways a bell pepper or a banana can be twisted.
20 servings of fruit? But limit to one serving at a time or okay to eat 2-5 cups of cantaloupes at a time? I figure this would increase your sugar levels and cause diabetes
I follow a type 1 diabetic who shows his CGM results for various fruits. He divides them into red, yellow and green buckets. I follow a low carb diet and eat the fruits I like and limit the ones that are very high glycemic which I actually don’t like anyway; grapes, dates, watermelon, bananas for example. It serves me fine. I would never tell someone lots of fruit is a good way, but you do you. So if fruit reverses diabetes then how do you feel about gel packs for athletes?
Eating loads of straight fruit alone is very different than incorporating fruits with or after proteins and other foods that temper sugar spikes. It's basic science.
Since some people thrive on animal products and some on plant based- experts should consider blood type as well. For example type A has lesser ability to digest meat and type 0 does..
Thank you so much. I'm Diabetic and scared of the numbers but if I keep it whole and plant based I will be loosing fat no matter what the meter says looks like I will be okay. I'm happily jumping into the Plant Based lifestyle 🎉🎉
Eliminate all carbs and go to an Albany diet and your A1C will take you right out of diabetic range. There's hundreds of videos online and thousands of people who've had this happen. Fruit spikes blood sugar
If you have severe insulin resistance or struggle with fluctuating blood glucose, we recommend earning your ability to eat fruits high on the glycemic index by eating a diet containing as much low glycemic plant material as possible for a few weeks first. Once you have gained a significant amount of insulin sensitivity, then begin increasing your intake of higher glycemic fruits and your blood glucose is unlikely to spike in the post-meal state. www.masteringdiabetes.org/fruit-for-diabetes/

I have watched a lot of videos focusing on 3 different diets - 1) Vegetarian 2) Keto 3) Mediterranean. They will all work for a healthy way of living as long as you do them correctly. The most important thing they have in common is that they all agree is that you should stay away from refined foods and there are a lot of them, it's insanity! I believe anyone who wants to correct their diet and to live a healthy life style should look at all of their options of the 3.

In the book there is a method to starting the diet that eliminates fruit for a couple days.
I wish they would respond to your questions. 😔
I'd like to know too. This info is already the complete opposite of what I've ever heard. 🥺
@@beekind6267 This information is exactly what I have heard from the actual studies on real diabetics by scientists.
So I'm guessing the book will tell you how to get rid of skeletal muscle and liver fat lipid levels to achieve eating fruits on a regular basis large amounts
Thank you! We need more info like this. It's very sad to see women eating a few sticks of butter a day saying it's healthy?
Every has a different health profile and differing metabolisms. Sometimes for certain women for certain periods of time eating just butter can be exactly what they need. Everyone demanding that everyone do exactly what they do and what’s good for THEM is insane. It’s like the typical primitive warring that goes on forever and so violently between people of different religions- which is insane also and stupid. We don’t demand everyone eat their eggs like we do and we often change how we eat them. Why can’t we live more like that.
So are you saying that carbs are better for me than protein?
Also
Are you saying sugar spikes from any source is ok because that’s the bodies natural response but have some insulin resistance?
He doesn’t drinks sodas
😂
Maybe he ate dairy or eggs or meat or vegetable oils , so it made his insulin not to work and he hot diebities
Thank you! Brother😊
@tea7030 maybe it was solely due to your yoga instead ?
Wow. That was GOOD! Thank you! SO informative.
Loving all your videos now that I found your channel! Thank you!!!
Do raw lentil sprouts have the same nutrition as cooked lentils? They are much more easily digested, but can I count them as a serving of legumes?
When I ate a lot of grapes last Fall, my A1c and the glucose meter readings went up. However, I really felt better and the urine pH went up to 6 to 7.4 and with less acidity my legs felt much lighter. Can't remember if I gained or last weight, though.
Wonderful educator. Easy to listen to and understand. Thank you.
My cgm tells a different story.
Fruit has become very expensive here. 20 servings a day isnt affordable for me, plus storing it all in my living situation.
Excellent video Cyrus!
💙
Get yourself a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) that will provide you with glucose readings during two weeks and see for yourself how you respond to several food types.
Best would be a continuous insulin sensor, but those are not on the market (yet).
I like having my fruit with yogurt 2% fat plain what is your take on plain yogurt.
Is that supposed to be funny? What's anyone's/everyone's take on plain (real) yogurt?
Thank you so much for all of your informative videos! I can’t tell you how helpful they are and I feel I can trust you bc of all of your education and actual studies related to this issue. I am so scepter of fruit from years of wrong thinking. I recently got my A1C down to 5.5 from 5.7 through a WFPB diet but I’m struggling w eating fruit because it may go back up!!!
Crazy thinking so thanks for all you do to educate us!!
Thanks!
I just ordered the book to try to learn about it! God bless you all.
I've been on your diet but I'm down to 97 lb how do I gain weight without getting off of this diet
I'm glad to hear the video , so informative.
Another dangerous myth is fruit caused cancer
🤔..very interesting! Pharmacist myself....the people love Ozempic! But on the long term...they need more..or stronger working Ozempic like medicine...experience learns...from patients and friends...
Thanks for sharing 👍
Same here.. I don't believe in fruit.
Doctors are too busy running patients through their offices to generate income.
This Dr...PhD...has the studies to support his positions
Like he said focus on losing fat in the cells which causes insulin resistance.
@DarthJeremy364, why do you need for them to do this , you can experiment each dietary intervention and let your blood works decide which is right for you over a 3 to 6 months period ?
Very informative 👏 👌 got more understanding
Thank you sooo much!!! I finally understand insulin resistance much better as to foods that contriibute to it along with positive calorie balance more fully (as weel as the keto/carb conflict and LONG term keto diet as being unhealthy, especially where cancer causation is concerned..
Then how did humanity survive in the winter when carbs simply werent available?
This octopus knows nothing about simple metabolic physiology... or what he knew is the reverse...
Excellent presentation. Very informative and backed by research findings from meta analysis and own experience. I watched your video from East Timor.
Same here
I dod it for 2 months only but quieted when I started having pains in my liver.. more like soreness.. also didn’t make sense to me how people that have been yrs on keto still having spikes every time they eat carbs… meaning they never fix their insulin resistance.
What if a person has fatty liver.. too much fruit..aka fructose is processed in the liver. How do you fix fatty liver?
What are U talking??what U eat , how U eat don't make U bad or good person..
Which kind of thinking and talking is this????
20 servings of fruit? But limit to one serving at a time or okay to eat 2-5 cups of cantaloupes at a time? I figure this would increase your sugar levels and cause diabetes
Thank you! Just purchased the book. Very excited to read it thoroughly
How to become less insulin resistant before I eat fruits ? Thanks
How are stevia and agave more refined than all the other things we eat like honey, maple syrup, mustard, etc…
Low Glycimic Fruits
Since some people thrive on animal products and some on plant based- experts should consider blood type as well. For example type A has lesser ability to digest meat and type 0 does..
So if someone is just starting with a wfpb diet , but still on Metformin and blood pressure meds, and statins, they should or shouldn't eat fruit?
Very Thorough talk. Thank you for taking the time to enlighten us.❤
I meant to say skeptical!!
Thank you so much. I'm Diabetic and scared of the numbers but if I keep it whole and plant based I will be loosing fat no matter what the meter says looks like I will be okay. I'm happily jumping into the Plant Based lifestyle 🎉🎉
You're welcome! Here if you need support!
Eliminate all carbs and go to an Albany diet and your A1C will take you right out of diabetic range. There's hundreds of videos online and thousands of people who've had this happen. Fruit spikes blood sugar
I would be happy to lose weight and keep it off forever.
@deeshelton6440, after 8 months how are you feeling now and what is your latest Hba1c any improvement ?
You are doing the right thing. I’m following plant based whole food with a little meat thrown in and I’m getting better.
The sugar in fruit is mostly fructose. Is in it fructose the worst for you in excess?
If you have severe insulin resistance or struggle with fluctuating blood glucose, we recommend earning your ability to eat fruits high on the glycemic index by eating a diet containing as much low glycemic plant material as possible for a few weeks first.
Once you have gained a significant amount of insulin sensitivity, then begin increasing your intake of higher glycemic fruits and your blood glucose is unlikely to spike in the post-meal state.

How do you eat 10-20 servings of fruit a day?
This has been a great resource! Thank you. I have a question. Would this work for hypoglycemia? I have reactive hypoglycemia and was diagnosed as a teen. Fast forward 66 years. Still the same.
I think you are right. I cut butter and other fats out and my sugars went down.
Great! I'm trying that now.
Butter and fats are not carbs
what about Fructose overload on liver..
Sorry i just want to know if you are a cancer survivor ?
Soooooo basically... Buttermilk pancakes and Aunt Jemima with sausage is out of the question..... I better stick to Kale and Lima beans for the rest of my life...
Great video Cyrus.
I got my insulin sensitivity calculated by Homa ir from 3.3 to 0.8 in two years by eating mostly animal based and some fruits and vegetables. No grains and legumes. Fasting insulin from 13 to 3.3
Thete is no" diets fits all" thing .
I agree there's no diet that fits all. My blood glucose spikes when I eat lots of meat and lowers when eat whole grain and vegies...
@@janeprieske7476 that's an unusual reaction 🤔
@@nickbardan3867so you eat meat, dairy, butter etc and veggies and some fruits? I will try. My homa is 4.2 still, after 3 years on Metformin 😢 I also get high cholesterol 😢 eating brad and sweets. Not much but eat. I need to get myself together. Thats why I 'm listening a lots of videos
Thank you ! Important information giving us more helpful control over our health !
We're happy to do it!
00:54 And that begs the ultimate question: _'who the f... is right'_
what is your opinion on Allulose
Great listening ✨
I eat only fatty meat/fish variety (~1 pound a day) and fruit (~1.5 pound) mainly banana and clementines. No added dietary fat, no supplements. I’m +2000 kcal a day. Never felt better and looked healthier in my life, and I’m 45.
This guy is a genius, new founded and I love it. Such a great help. I am learning so much❤
We're happy to hear we could help! 💙
I am so confused most of the time and struggle to decide what to eat. I have type 2 diabetes, with deficiency in iron, b.12,thiamine, and D3. I also have neuropathy in my feet and acid reflux. I have bands in my esophagus and fatty liver. I also have anxiety and depression. I am struggling to get much support from my GP and unsure what my diet should be or what will beneficial or harmful to me. I would love to speak to a professional but I just can't afford to.
The Mastering Diabetes way of eating works!! I reduced my A1C from 14.0 to 6.6 in 3 months!! A low fat Whole Foods plant based diet is the best way!!
@@tsabine21 thank you
Listen 5o what was just said. He follows this way of eating and he is type 1 diabetic. Contact him
@@tsabine21 ,How long did it take after cutting out fats, did you see improvement in your bs . ?The only fat I eat is peanut butter and walnuts , but my AIC is going up.
@@barbaradavis1712 I started eating a whole food plant based diet 100% on February 16th. Fruit bowl or tofu scramble for breakfast, salad and beans/rice and veggies for lunch and dinner, pb and banana on toast after dinner and my A1C went from 14.0 to 6.6 by May 16!! I had to reduce my fats-the peanut butter was my main fat for weeks. No oil or butter in my vegetables , even now. So it took me about 6 weeks to notice I didn’t get spikes with potatoes or oatmeal.
Learn about each one and decide for yourself which one would be the best option for you.
What is Cyrus's exercise program, and what protein supplements, shakes does he use to gain muscle mass?
Finally, someone who could explain that fruits are good for me and effects of fruit on insulin resistance. Good job!
Best video ever on fruit and misinformation. Your explanation style is superb!
Thank you!!!
Absolutely gorgeous. Also perfect timing, me and my partner have been discussing this recently so this is such a beautiful synchronicity. Thank you both for sharing
I just ordered your book mastering diabetes! I ordered it from Amazon I get it Tuesday ❤
Following these people’s advice has been the solution to the specific nature of my diabetes.
CSIRO in Australia: No fruit on our diets, ever.
Their reasoning is that too many calories for their low carb diet.
You talk about having 10-20 servings of fruit per day. What does a serving look like?
That was a great video! Thank You so much! I have eaten green smoothies with lots of bananas and blueberries for over 25 years. I am 77 years old and very healthy! I always eat fruit before eating anything else! I eat mostly raw fruits and vegetables with the addition of sweet potatoes, beans, and a few oats! Lately I have been seeing videos talking about Keto and not eating fruit so I was really thankful for your video! Oh, yes it is important to keep it very low to no fat! Thank you again! ❤️💕❤️
All these conflicting opinions are making our conditions most deplorable.
Please talk about sprouted wheat flour's Glycemic Index.
So fructose is good for you? Doesn’t it become triglycerides?
Calorie density: keep under 700 per pound to loose weight
I can't believe so many ppl think fruit is bad for you. Then i remember we live in 🤡🌎
I want to eat it but feel terrible immediately after eating a piece of fruit. I look for an hard boiled egg or a piece of chicken breast to stabilize my blood sugar. I wish I could eat an apple and feel full for a while, instead I feel hungrier than before.. I'm pesimistic that I'll be able to eat fruit and feel good.
@@esinfa you may have reactive hypoglycaemia - if you eat fruits on an empty stomach you spike your glucose and when it crashes, you feel even hungrier. I only eat fruit as dessert. or in a protein smoothie with lots of other things or mixed in Greek yoghurt - that way I don’t get a spike. A purely plant based diet would be bad for my blood glucose - much as I like fruit and veg.
@@ZsuzsaKarolySmith I totally agree about the fruits. Than there is iron and b12 deficiency in plant base diet. Also you have to rely heavily on grains for protein which leaves me gassy and uncomfortable. A balanced diet with daily exercise and fasting from time to time would be best for me.
