    [MOTOROLA RAZR 2022 REVIEW]
Motorola. Until Apple came along, no one mattered more in mobile than the company that built the first cellphone - and there was no phone more recognizable than the RAZR. That brand name redefined the first flip phones in 2004; it helped Android conquer the smartphone world in 2011; and it resurrected the flip phone in 2019 with the world’s first mass-market foldable (that also brought back the venerable brand name).
But no amount of retro-futurism would hold off Samsung once the South Korean juggernaut decided it wanted a piece of the action. After a slow start with the Galaxy Z Flip, it went for the kill with the solid Z Flip 3 and excellent Galaxy Z Flip 4, each of which beat the Razr on the spec sheet and on the price list.
For its part, Motorola kept the world waiting nearly two years for a response. And now that the phone is finally here, Motorola’s attitude seems to be: if you can’t resonate … emulate. I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve spent two months with the Motorola Razr 2022, a wide and weird effort to duplicate Samsung’s success - by copying the copycat.

@@dnegel9546 That's cuz you only see functionality & little else, while to a good number of us, Mr. Mobile himself especially, the concept of foldable touchscreen phones itself represents something more, & definitely something that the previous Razr added to. The Razr name itself, especially when added on a foldable, is a symbol of breaking the mold, standing out, & all around just being unique, at least in form if not in function. Now, it's just yet another faceless one-of-the-many.

I have owned the RAZR 5G since last year and anxiously waited for the newest RAZR. I can't tell you how disappointed I was to see the "new design." The only review I’ve been waiting on. I’ve ordered mine here in the UK and with a 10% discount got it for £855 so a fantastic price. I know it has some down points like no wireless charging, not so great wide camera and no waterproofing but I think it has some great clawbacks with an outer display that you can actually use for most (unlike the flip series), a far less noticeable crease and a very good main camera. I also like the idea of the wider screen as I have quite large hands so feel this will be comfortable to use. Time will tell but really looking forward to using it and seeing how it goes.

Not getting a full tablet like the fold but mitigating the main downside of chunky phablets by keeping it small in the pocket. Heavily considering one because moto lets you load whatever OS you want for long term use.

Honestly the 2022 "Razr" shouldn't have the name, it's obviously more akin to a Moto Edge than the icons of the ages.

I upgraded from the v60 to the moto razr2022. I do see your points about what this phone isn't compared to previous models. I knew I wanted a foldable phone as an upgrade and the outer display was a huge selling point compared to Samsung's flip4.
I use the outer display for quick calculator access for my job and messages when I need to quick message someone if I don't want to ruin movie experience for others.
My biggest worry was it's an overseas phone. And I was told at&t and Verizon wouldn't be compatible. But I just popped in the sim card and thank God it worked.
Your absolutely right about the software. It is buggy, and just like you said in video, the personalization app won't open for me either 😭. Personally, I use a different home launcher than the stock it comes with so it helps with my own personal customization.

@Bas Hartman sadly enough, I had to trade it in about a week ago. 😫 everything about that phone was perfect. The display, the power behind the phone, the 120hrz display everything. What killed it, unfortunately, was a simple bug. Group text messaging. Forwhatever reason, I noticed that I was missing out on conversations or I wasn't receiving the full messages in group messages. I thought It was just the app I was using but I used every messaging app known on the app store and each had a group messaging problem. I called Verizon and they knew it was an overseas phone and couldn't really do much except keep telling me to try another app. But in the end it just got frustrating. Who knew just a basic task as group messaging would kill the experience for me. Traded it in for Fold4 (cuz I wasn't gonna go back to a Candy bar Phone). About 2 weeks ago. Haven't looked back sense

I think the" wideness" is welcome. Keeps the phone's aspect ratio in check (20:9). A less wide phone probably would've yielded (in my opinion) a needlessly tall aspect ratio. While I don't mind larger phones; taller phones have been the bane of my existence ever since manufactures decided to artificially claim bigger screen sizes within the same relative foot print

    • @jakenasz3428

    • @rayquazahere8529
      @rayquazahere8529 Год назад +4

      Yes and no.
I had this phone in my hands, and I even asked people with bigger hands for opinions (because my hands are small)
It is just stupidly wide, wider than S22 Ultra, iPhone 13/14 Pro Max and even the ROG 6.
It is for 90% of people a 2 handed phone, because of how stupidly wide it is.
They could have made it shorter instead to keep the aspect ratio in check, but they decided not to.
However I have a bigger issue with this phone and that is it's software support.
2 OS upgrades and 3 years of security... Motorola released a cheaper (around 820 euro now) Edge 30 Ultra that has the same chip but gets 3 OS upgrades and 4 years of security.
For this amount of money Motorola should make it the same AT LEAST, and drop the bimonthly BS, because if a phone like the Flip 4 can give better OS support for less (around 1009 euro now here) money, Motorola needs to steup up their game too.

I absolutely agree... I dislike the Flip 4 for having that weird tall and skinny look and feel. I love the wide normal width of the RAZR. And I've gotten compliments to the contrary: People constantly tell me how they are surprised when I fold it.. because it looks like a regular size smart phone that folds to half the size and doesn't look like a makeup case.

Aspect ratio debates will never end, just because it's such a subjective area. For me, tall and narrow is where it's at. Silver lining: now there's more choice in the clamshell space (in some markets, anyway).

I completely agree with all of your comments and I find it sad that they completely abandoned their indivuality in favor of fitting in. I absolutely do not like the new razr at all aestheticcally compared to the 2019 and 2020 5g models. This switch to fit it more and look like a Samsung is exactly why I will never buy the new razr cause honestly if I wanted a Samsung I would just buy a Samsung cause of the better cameras, operating systems and availability. Motorola completely dropped the ball here with this new model and hopefully the sales aren't bad enough that they discontinue the model because I would love to see them go back to the older models with better operating systems, cameras and sleek original design

Two things I really liked about the RAZR 5g that Samsung did not have.. 1) the bottom "chin" 2) the ability to do most things from the cover screen.
My RAZR 5g died this year... I've moved over to the Samsung flip 4 because it's Easter proof. If the RAZR had the chin, I'd have gotten that .. But now the RAZR looks like the flip 4, I went for the flip.
So the cover screen, natively, the flip 4 is very limited but with third party apps I can now use it for most things except writing text.
The RAZR 2022 is no longer line the old RAZR , now it is just a Samsung with less pros than the Samsung

Having used this as my daily driver for a month now, I will say that it is maybe my favorite phone I have ever owned. Yes, I don't like the design as much as my Razr 5G, and yes, the fact that I was impatient and ordered the Chinese version does create some problems (Android Auto will not work for example), I still like this way more than the ZFlip3. I have the 5G, which I loved, but unfortunately it's not a particularly good phone (no service in my office on Verizon when all my other phones had no troubles) and switched to the Samsung. I never could enjoy the Z3 - the gutter is distracting, I hate the aspect ratio of it, and I don't really love the Samsung interface. The Razr 2022 has pretty much solved all of those issues. A total winner in my book.
By the way, a decent looking cover makes the giant outside "picture frame" look go away.
