Thanks for watching folks! Quick note: you could argue that I dwell too heavily on that cover screen, especially since the WeChat app solves for many shortcomings in the phone's release market of China. I didn't put a sentence about that into the script, and I regret that, so: here it is! 😄
FWIW I don't think you dwelled on it too much. One of the points of having a dual display is to be able to use that secondary display however one wishes and many people may not know about the WeChat app.
Great review. Your script and narration really are in a different class. Plus your depth of experience and ability to think about the user's perspective in the real world is unique. Reminds me of the late lamented Phones Show video reviews by Steve Litchfield but with all the modern filming and editing bells and whistles. Keep up the good work!
I find that foldables design now are getting better and better (at least from what i see since i haven't tried the designs tho) so i hope samsung will stepping up their design for their upcoming foldables
Enjoyed the video from start to finish. The content was informative and engaging, and the production quality was top-notch. Keep up the fantastic work, Michael!
I actually prefer the simplicity of the front panel. I don’t want to do anything complex on it and I want the simplicity of having a few key widgets at my fingertips. The moment you have a giant complex interface you sacrifice that. Don’t forget you can just flip it open!
My thoughts exactly. Being able to - for example - run google maps on a tiny screen seems to me more like a gimmick to show friends than an actual usable feature. Especially for flip phones, where you can open it with one hand (as opposed to the regular fold).
@@aladus completely agree mate! Perhaps a cool widget showing turn by turn directions would be a good feature though (it automatically pins itself to the front cover when you start a walking trip)
The point is, most things people actually do on a smartphone doesn't actually require a big screen. Checking directions, emails, latest tweets, sms etc. None of these quick actions need you to flip for a larger display. Allow people to choose the apps they want to use on the small screen that makes sense to them. Thats the key point.
I think i'd be okay with the limited use front panel, but I'm sure I'll run into that one app or feature I'd really want on it and then it would just drive me crazy. Love the reviews!
My Razr 5G has 100% spoiled me on foldables, I refuse to get another that doesn't allow me to do virtually whatever I want on the outside screen like mine does
This device looks so stunning and the little touches to the OS are awesome - I wish ROM devs would pick up on some of these like Lineage. The slide-out keypad, whilst so simple, just feels so much more natural than just a fullscreen fadein one. Little things like that just change up the overal appearance of Android, and I wish there was more of this, that could potentially be used across devices. That said, this is also why i can't get a foldable... Software support beyond the lifespan of a warranty is important to me, since phones aren't cheap in new form factors like this, so I would love to eek out a few more years with LineageOS and friends. I am daily driving a Razer Phone 2 - and it even got Android 13 BEFORE my friends using an Oppo phone! Literally months before, no less. Still blows my mind. I am very much looking forward to more foldables - be it bigscreen or clamshell - because eventually, other ROMs will be made available for them and support might become more widely adopted. With the Pixel Fold inbound, I expect Android to make a gigantic leap in terms of software support for these formfactors.
I have to say that I had encountered this channel a couple of years ago and then it stopped coming into my recommendations. I use to watch mostly MKBHD and MrwhoseTheBoss. But I ended up again on your channel few days back and realized. You are a notch higher than the rest. It’s like watching a movie and you are the star like Brendan Fraser from the Mummy. foldable phones are such a cool idea. taking a regular size phone and designing it to take half the space or to carry twice the screen size while at the same general storing size is a great take.
MrMobile, u are my definitive authority when it comes to foldables. I use foldables since Samsung Galaxy Fold and now I am on Oppo Find N2 and Vivo X Flip. My laptop is Lenovo X1 Fold. Really appreciate the thorough review even down to the OS. My take on Samsung's next flip, it will likely have a bigger outer screen as per rumors. But I bet that Samsung will NOT let it run everything like Moto. So I think this is why manufacturers like Vivo and Oppo will do just the minimum on the outer screen. Dun blame them for it.
As someone outside of their market, I've always been impressed by Vivo's hardware design chops. They seem to innovate in meaningful and functional ways, but they also look nice too. And now it's nice to see that their software design is just as deliberate.
This is oddly the only flip phone that I've actually wanted for my own! Maybe partly because I hope it will quickly depreciate with lackluster reviews and then i can buy it in a couple of years lol! I think I would really enjoy it
I have vivo phone and its my daily driver. And to be honest I like its UI than Samsung. There's a lot of customization that you can do for your own preference. And the battery could last a whole day or two in single charge (depending on your usage) If ever I will have a foldable phone I would prefer the vivo. I'm just wondering, when shooting a video on that flip phone, can you switch the camera from front to rear cam back and forth just like what a vlogging camera?
Agree with Mr. Mobile that the outerscreen should have more function. If I have a flip phone I want to minimize to flip it open as much as possible to extend its life, meaning, I don't want to do every simple task (e.g. checking message, notofication and more) by flipping open a screen. Also, it would be a "slower" process to flip open a screen everytime. So, for sure it need more function on the front

Show me the date and time, notifications, control center toggles and ability to respond to texts with some cool animations on top and I'll be satisfied.
I feel like I wouldn't want to use my regular phone ui on the small screen. I prefer this simplistic approch with enough functions, and a ui that makes it more usable for the small display. I dont see a reason for example to use google maps on small screen, and not just open it. I think the ui has to be simple and quick and easily readable for the outside display
If the latest Razr+ rumors are true and we'll see it released in the US with a almost full size cover display, it will be the Flip foldable to get, for me any many others.
The Razr still wins in all around classy looks, but that probably isn't a deal breaker. I thought the video looks great, but the photos were pretty meh. I wonder if a software update will help later? The battery life is amazing though!
Depending on the implementation; the cover screen may be fixable in software. Sometimes these get implemented essentially as a separate computer (eg think apple's touch bar, or the cosmo's external display). If that's the case, it will be much more difficult to put meaningful functionality there. Hopefully though, is just a second display connected to the same SoC, and an update will sort it out.

i got the vivo x fold which i sold so i could buy the vivo x fold 2. and i think vivo makes the best indoor displays on a foldable smartphone. they are not as bright as Samsung or all the other brands. and it plays a lot when you are outdoors. it looks like vivo gave us a reflective inner screen than the competition
i think the hinge design is intentional. so many samsung phone broke their screen cuz of that free motion hinge. u're not supposed to put the screen on werid angle for too long or it'll break. unless the technology advances even more, it should be open or close
Even the LG wing allowed you to utilize the small square screen with nearly every app. I can't wait for a Flip coverscreen that we can reply to messages or see full apps
The screen indeed looks smooth as hell in comparison with what is on the market. Reversed cover with the big screen up top seems very promising, sad they don't realize the potential. Strange to hear it doesn't have any waterproofing guaranteed. Interesting tweaks on Android on this version. Plus it survives a slide down the slide !;) Sad it still struggles with the cameras.
I have been watching your since you was with Jaime. I know once the best flip come out the market your going to honest review for us the consumers!!! I’m also blackberry fan
Things are getting exciting! Currently using the Flip 4 and I yearn for a bigger, more useful cover screen. I need to be able to type replies to texts and to not have to open my phone to scan the tiny rewards cards barcodes in Google Wallet on the cover screen.
Great Videos as always. Interesting phone, hopefully some ideas will bleed to models available in western markets. Great RUclips recommendations 4:10 LGR and CRD in one Video! Great taste❤
I think this cover screen gets it right, to be honest. It's a flip phone. You have a whole display *inside* the phone. The cover screen should only be for glanceable information. If you want to do everything from the cover screen, why buy a foldable in the first place? I mean, yeah, it's smaller in one dimension, but you're making the phone twice as thick, and if you're going to be using the hell out of the cover screen, all of that thickness is for naught.
I agree. RAZR leverages the front display, but for someone in their late 50s, that front display is simply too small to be practical. I would also suggest even for the youth, using that too much would not be good for your long-term eye health.
Was going to type almost exactly the same comment. What's the point of the flip function if both screens have the same function. The most I'd want to do is be able to type replies since most of the time spent opening the phone to reply to a single message is probably the least efficient part.
However, I think it misses the mark in not allowing the user to use that front display however they wish with regards to apps. We all use our phones differently so give us that option for those that want.
@@rambledogs2012 Yeah, I can see the value in giving the user more choices of what to use the screen for. I just think it should be for widget like functions rather than to be a substitute for the main screen.
Companies have to stop doing this with the front screen. All they have to do is allow an option to mirror the inside or allow any app to open. They can still set the widgets out of the box but at least allow the user to choose! I used the ZFlip 3 for 12 months and loved it but switched to the Pixel 7 Pro for better cameras and battery. It's been an amazing experience but I keep finding myself really missing the ability to prop up the cameras and take shots alone, now I need a tripod or someone else to hold the phone.
Whoa 🤯 I’m not surprised with the camera but I’m actually impressed with the quality of the videos! Normally, Chinese phones won’t be able to record a video this good 😮 Even the FHD one at the end of your review looks incredible.
I tried the flip for a few months at the beginning of the year, LOVED the form factor but as an annoying parent who takes a million photos daily the camera was just not good enough.. soon as I can get TRUE flagship cameras on a flip im back onboard... Till then im keeping my Pixel 7.
I'm gonna be honest, I don't give a sht about "is this the best camera" question on modern phones. If I wanted an amazing camera, I'd buy an actual camera. I rarely post anything on social media and when I do, I couldn't care less that the color of the sky is "not correct" or whatever criticism reviewers throw. All modern cameras on phones are so goddamn good it's literally just nitpicking at subjective single-digit percentage differences between any two. I care about durability, endurance, interface, performance, where there are MAJOR differences between brands. At this point, camera's are at the bottom of my list now.
Wow! I thought Samsung exhausted the planet's supplies if faux leather with the Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy S5. Not quite mockodile, but I like the look of it. Another great video, thanks for sharing!
Great video as always what rumours have you heard about the new folds and flips from samsung any chance of a short video as I’m really tired of Apple thanks
Fun is mainly synonymous with failure. HTC and LG, maybe even Blackberry and Nokia, are all fun brands that died from low sales. Most core phone buyers want something to do their stuff; they are not techies wanting flips and crazy designs.
That cover screen has great potential. Design is the best among all flip phones so far, and is significantly better than the folder-shaped screen Samsung is expected to use for the next Flip model.
I've had my z flip 3 for 2 years and never had an issue. Just wish the battery was better. I'll hold on to this for another year or so and see what comes out
Can you make a video where you show all foldabke phones you have next to each other and then rate all of them individual form 1-10? XD would love it. And im thinking about getting the cheaper razr version that is coming soon so can you give a review about that?
The while point of the second screen is to use it for your favorite app. I returned my Galaxy Flip 4 because I could not use the small screen for my favorite apps. So there was no point... looking forward to the day when samsung makes the flip back screen open to full apps.
Issue with all these VPN ads, when you already have a ridiculously slow hotel WiFi network, a VPN will only make them slower. Plus, I mean, much of this is fearmongering.
The "design" is just a bigger screen, there's no really any innovative design element there. We all know Samsung put a smaller screen in front is on purpose so they can release a bigger screen next year. So, nothing really innovative here
THE most important thing in a flip phone is looks. The people buying these are regular people who want a cool phone. I dont understand why these companies are making them so ugly. They will not sell.
When flip phones first came out I was very excited. Well because I want one but I am patient enough to wait and I think now they're at a good enough place that my next phone will be a flip phone or book style and it might just have to be that Google pixel flip
Thanks for watching folks! Quick note: you could argue that I dwell too heavily on that cover screen, especially since the WeChat app solves for many shortcomings in the phone's release market of China. I didn't put a sentence about that into the script, and I regret that, so: here it is! 😄
Looks good....might get a flip phone when my Xiaomi 13 kicks the bucket in 4-5 years....hopefully they will figure things out by then
If its a feature that separates it from normal slab phones, then it's worth talking about. Especially if there's competition in that regard also.

That cover screen has great potential. Design is the best among all flip phones so far, and is significantly better than the folder-shaped screen Samsung is expected to use for the next Flip model.
We need more MrMobile real word content ;)
In 2008, the HTC Touch Diamond had a one and only screen of 2.8 inches. How times have changed!
I miss HTC😢 not always the greatest but it was something unique
I look forward to your pixel fold full review
I've had my z flip 3 for 2 years and never had an issue. Just wish the battery was better. I'll hold on to this for another year or so and see what comes out
Can you make a video where you show all foldabke phones you have next to each other and then rate all of them individual form 1-10? XD would love it. And im thinking about getting the cheaper razr version that is coming soon so can you give a review about that?
Holy shit I'm loving that interface features. Other manufacturers should take note
The while point of the second screen is to use it for your favorite app. I returned my Galaxy Flip 4 because I could not use the small screen for my favorite apps. So there was no point... looking forward to the day when samsung makes the flip back screen open to full apps.
Great review! Wish these foldables were more globally available though...
Issue with all these VPN ads, when you already have a ridiculously slow hotel WiFi network, a VPN will only make them slower. Plus, I mean, much of this is fearmongering.
Great review as always. It seems there's always a compromise when buying any flip. Why can't we have a decent camera experience ?
More competition is always better👏💯
UI is kind of clean. Nice animations sometimes i see
Don't love the quilted look, but this front screen design is by far my fav of the flip phones to come out thus far
The "design" is just a bigger screen, there's no really any innovative design element there. We all know Samsung put a smaller screen in front is on purpose so they can release a bigger screen next year. So, nothing really innovative here
Love the more unique design and the impressive battery. Wish Samsung would match the battery, at least.
like the new transitions!
THE most important thing in a flip phone is looks. The people buying these are regular people who want a cool phone. I dont understand why these companies are making them so ugly. They will not sell.
10:20 X Flip does have the larger camera sensor (1/1.49” vs 1/1.76”)
Gah, misspoke in the VO. Meant to say "pixel size," not "sensor size." (1.0µm vs 1.8µm)
I just want a phone that only has a 4:3 aspect ratio and smaller then 4 inch. I can't see how all the manufacturers are so blind.
When flip phones first came out I was very excited. Well because I want one but I am patient enough to wait and I think now they're at a good enough place that my next phone will be a flip phone or book style and it might just have to be that Google pixel flip
Your reviews are so well done! Always a pleasure to watch.
1:26 these violent delights have violent ends.
I can understand why manufacturers restrict what can be done on the outside screen, but I struggle to understand how they choose what can be done.
King of foldables🎉🎉
How does the OPPO flip compare to the Samsung and Motorola ones,?_ Will the OPPO come to the States Unlocked to be used on all carriers
After supposed galaxy 5 case been leaked I am very excited with the potential big screen on outside part
Such a shame the software don't live up to the hardware's expectations 😢
Loved seeing Tim Sholfield
Great video, as always 😎 But I still can’t decide between Flip 4 and Razr 5G 🤔
