[SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 4 REVIEW]
My first impression when I put the new Galaxy Flip 4 alongside last year’s Flip 3 was “okay, when’re you gonna show me the new ones?” But when you’re Samsung, whose folding phones constitute nearly 88% of the worldwide foldable market well … maybe the thinking goes, you don’t need to change all that much.
In fact, last year’s Galaxy Z Flip 3 got so much right that it went on to become the world’s most popular foldable - one that, after a year of use, I found lacking mainly in its battery life and camera. Did Samsung improve enough on those weaknesses to make the similarly-specced, identically-priced Galaxy Z Flip 4 the new clamshell cream of the crop? I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve spent a week finding out - in MrMobile’s Samsung Galaxy Flip 4 Review!

A 4000mAh battery or bigger (and better rear cameras) would've been nicer, even if the phone got 1 or 2mm thicker.
Yeah that's their business model....
They r saving that one for future generations
↖️I should do something with my fear 😱😰😰😰..
no worries it even outlasted the s22 ultra
@@yejoonstech5112 I'm happy with mine. The battery isn't that bad.
In the battery test, this got 9 hours of sot beyond anyone's expectation.
Samsung has made the mobile phone interesting, fun, and mysterious as we experienced in the early days of smartphones. The Z4 flip is my first flip phone. I hope that this trend catches on and we see more competition and innovation in this space.
And yet again I can’t afford their offerings, meaning that the revolution is all style and no substance.
The model T had to be affordable to the people who made it for it to cha he the world.
@@davidnotonstinnett the way the mobile phone industry works is completely different from how the automobile industry works so i think that's not a fair argument
@@davidnotonstinnett Really depends on what you mean by 'substance'. the likes of Model T were made to be workhorses even in design stages, & automobiles were hardly a thing back then. on the contrary, foldables are designed right off the bat to be fun, as hardly anyone needs more powerful phones for everyday use & workhorse-like phones are aplenty to begin with. as such, in the case of foldables, unlike the Model T analogy you put forth, style IS substance.
hello you, i'm from the future and the foldable world is looking more and more awesome every day!
Agreed on the US trade-in offers. I had a battered (but crucially not cracked) S21, and coupled that with a 4-year old S10e that was cracked, and got the Flip4 with the upgraded 256GB storage, free case, Watch5 Pro AND the Buds2 Pro for $640. Not chump change, but considering everything the package includes, it was hard to turn down. Especially as I pay for YT Premium, and it came with 4 months free, so I've paused my own payments and will count that $40 towards it too...
(shame that the new battery life isn't all that, but the S21 battery life doesn't tend to last a full day either, so at least I'm used to it!)
Paying for YT premium... Wtf
@@jerryf3 haha if you have a tip for an adblocker that doesn't just force me to stare at a blank white screen for five seconds then I'd welcome it!
@@ChrisGower youtube vanced and adblock plus for pc
Thanks BigNiggaBalls
@@AsaMitakasHusband Now suggest for phone, smart TV and streaming boxes.. There aren't any, so YT Premium it is.
Pre-ordered mine on launch. This is the first flip/fold phone I have ever had. I am not a power user so the battery does not concern me. I will say he is right the deals to be had are insane. I bought the Bespoke Navy ZFlip 4 and I also picked up the Watch 5 Pro because it was only $100 extra (it retails for $450) I was also trying to get the new Buds Pro as well but I could not get it to push through. Those would have been heavily discounted as well I have the Buds Plus and they offered $70 trade-in as well as 30% off so the price would have been around $130.
And how many credit card loans did you take up for that
@@ActuallyAwesomeName LOL none I pay for my tech outright.
So jealous of you folks in the States, in Canada they only offer CAD $300 for the trade in credit so after trade in flip 3 still gotta pay around CAD $500. Not worth the upgrade
Hello, how is the phone now after 8 months?
@@jeji5860 the phone is still fantastic everything is holding up well and I've really enjoyed the camera it's fantastic
Anyone who wants to do more with the outer screen on flip 3 (and 4, I think) should look at cover screen OS. It makes the outer screen very easy to use productively.
And very unsecure
Yeah, I think I read about it on XDA!
There's always devs coming up with new ways to fill up these usability holes!
@@maddoxthegreatcanecorso7150 How paranoid are you man lol. Using an app on a phone doesn't make it unsecure, he's not talking about jailbreaking or isntalling a custom os... and even this is still secure
That was a wonderful review, Micheal. Really appreciate the sort of work you put in. Hoping to view the Fold 4 review soon..! Cheers!
OMG KITTY! I've been looking forward to your reviews on this (and any other foldable). I know how much you love them, haha.
Its the thoughtful music in the background that always reminds me of the time and effort put into these videos. Always appropriate for the theme or subject that Mr.Mobile is focused on.
Your extremely thorough and honest. I’ve never seen your videos before but I’ll be sure to subscribe you do a great job.
Double audio at the start of the video about 0.48 seconds? As always my favorite RUclipsr back at it again! Thank you for the amazing content
You're awesome that's all I can say. Getting this review out so soon brings a ton of value. I wish their was a love button on this video
Aside from battery and camera, I'm totally happy with my Flip 3. Figured for $99 trade in I'll upgrade until the next Fold is released.
Samsung offered 900.00 trade-in for the Flip3 for a week or so. So $99.00 for the Flip 4 was a no brainer for me.
@@2.Plus.2.Equals.5 I know, but all businesses need to sell "stuff" to pay for the employees.
Cars, bikes, you name it.
We all gotta put food on the table.
@@2.Plus.2.Equals.5 Making more trash is an inevitability when you're innovating & making new stuff. at least Samsung here is actually doing something to push the envelope & the funds amassed are more or less justified, which couldn't be said for most other manufacturers of any kind that just roll out new stuff, without actually & having no intentions of, making 'new stuff'.
I appreciate your sentiment. But the unspoken reality is that electronics keep people from taking more physically constructive or recreational Harm to the physical environment. Technology has been our one saving grace on the planet.. support it ~

Watching this with an alcatel goflip 5. ThaThank you for always putting out such interesting videos. I just got a google account this year but i remember watching your videos on my dad's account almost since i can remember.
There is so much aura around your reviews.

Outro was lit Michael 🔥 amazing video
Top review per usual, Michael. Cracking little phone but I am keen for the next one and the Fold 4. Am itching for the upgrade....! But thanks again. And for the Surfshark discount!
Great observations about the external display. Fortunately they can still fix that with software updates in the future. Keep up with the great work! Love all of your videos 👌🏻👍🏻
Exactly, its software not hardware so Samsung will probably bring some of those things!
You're my new favorite tech reviewer! I love the personality in your tech reviews. You're like a classy Lazy Game Reviews (if you've heard of him) that reviews modern tech instead of games.
The battery life is actually a perfect reason to upgrade from a flip 3. My flip 3 barely gives me a half a work day of moderate use, I unplug it at 5AM and have to charge it by 12pm (usually go in at 7am). If it can make it a full day, even just to get me to my car for my hour long commute, ill definitely be happy.
Mine arrives on the 26th, really looking forward to it.
Great video. Was waiting for this one. Have both three z flip and z fold 4. Will returning one so I am waiting on your fold review before doing that. Can you please share the wallpaper. I have been watching your content forever and just realized I was not subscribe to the best reviewer on RUclips lol
5:27 It's a relief to know that it's not just me who has experienced it, my right side buds 2 also can't charge properly 😂
Keep up your review of the flip! I’m also getting the 4!
Waiting for your Watch 5 review man. Not much into foldables myself. But I'll watch this one nevertheless. 🤗
Yes! Same for me
You must be into China phones

Minor nitpick - II didn't see a link to the Engadget review you referenced with the auto-focus issue. Other than that, I was happy to see you took samples of a) child on a swing - as a new-ish dad, I'm going to be taking a lot of photos and videos of my one year-old and she is moving after by the day - and b) samples in low light to get a better sense of what to expect when my first foldable arrives next week. Thanks for yet another great video!
Great review just got my wife a z flip for her birthday and I'm sure she will love it. Still think this type of phone is amazing for normal everyday users, where for me it's more about the duo as I'm a big multi tasker rather than media. Looking forward to seeing what it's like hands on.
Thanks Mr Fisher. Ur the only one who highlighted the most important point that answered a lot: Samsung has NO clear competition in folding phone. No one is as big as Samsung now as to after sale services n support. Not to mention they check all the boxes with "good enough", n thats better than "great" in an area but "unacceptable" in others.
Cheers.
No clear competition in the United States and North America. In Europe and Asia and china, it's actually getting smacked around a bit by xiaomi and vivo and oppo. Which have proper front screens that aren't so narrow, flagship camera setups that aren't compromised, and much better creases. We North Americans should remember that the rest of the world exists
@@michaelcorcoran8768 But those phones aren't water proof, hinges suck and might not last long, software is meh. For the same price, it would be stupid to not pick the Samsung
@@michaelcorcoran8768 er...ac im from malaysia. There is no global version for any of Xiaomi, Oppo etc. Here u can still import it but once its broke, ur screwed.
@GH0STST4RSCR34M Water resistant is what I meant. Still, those Chinese phones aren't even that. No IP rating at all. So once again, you're a fool if you pick any foldable over samsung given those specs
@GH0STST4RSCR34M nope, its not just a fancy tick it means they did additional testing to ensure it's water resistant. While no water resistant phones don't go through that process so if you accidentally dunk your phone in water then there is a 50% chance of breaking. I know a few people who accidentally dropped thier phone in the toilet or sink and their screen went black afterwards.
Everytime a new samsung phone comes out, i always come to your channel and watch the reviews. Me, i lean more on samsung phones than any other phone. Although this new flip 4 lacks some features but could probably be fixed in the future, i'm still convinced and excited on getting this phone. Great video as always.
I don’t see myself buying a foldable smart phone in the near future but I do commend Samsung for developing and advancing this technology.
Great review as always! I was waiting for the Pixel 7, but could not pass up on the insane trade in offer for my old Pixel 4XL. Actually pretty excited to get my hands on the flip 4. Last time I was anticipating a phone like this was for the OG Palm Pre (hopefully that makes it to a "when phones were fun" video 😉)
Looking forward to your long term review mrmobile😁
I am very excited for this phone. I have mine on preorder and am ready to go. This is my first foldable phone moving over from a galaxy S21 Ultra. My friends a giving me crap about a “downgrade,” but I am looking at it to help kind of disconnect easier from being face in screen all day every day.
Great review. Still waiting to see the next pixel, but interested in your galaxy watch 5 and 5 pro reviews.
FYI: Samsung has said that they have expirimented similar hinges to the competition but found that they are less durable and don't allow for water resistance.
I am not sure about less durable, as there is no proof in that, maybe the Samsung one was poorly done, but comparing Samsung foldable issues to other OEMs, then there are a lot more problems with the Fold (though they do sell more). So, do not believe the marketing from Samsung. It is more likely they hold the patents to this method and want to sell it to other OEMs. Sadly, for Samsung, zero interest as it is clearly the less futuristic hinge/crease. As for water resistance, I suspect that dust is far more likely to kill foldable’s than water ingress, as dust is around us, everywhere, but it is very easy to avoid water. So those excuses seem to be half-hearted by Samsung to defend what looks a flawed design. There is zero chance that in 1-2 years anyone will be using the Samsung hinge with that gap and noticeable crease!
@@andyH_England It was also along with Ross young who said the same thing.
@@andyH_England And No they have MUCH less problems than other folding phones.
That might be true but I would take the form factor in these models from oppo, xiaomi and Viva, even if I had to sacrifice water resistance.
And honestly, I think the more likely scenario is that Samsung just wants to maximize profit by keeping manufacturing costs down and recycling the same design is the best way to do that for them.
I guarantee you if xiaomi, vivo, oppo was being sold in US carrier stores they would do something about the crease in the front screen.
@@LaidBackDeveloper how could you possibly *know* that? Have you imported all of the competition and taken it through its paces?
I really enjoy the front display being small. If I wanted a straight up display, I would just open up the phone. It makes sense that the display on the outside is mainly meant for notifications and quick actions. I don’t think it’s a design flaw, or a loss against competition. I think it’s largely intentional and I personally enjoy it:-)
That is insane trade in value! Here in uk, for Flip 3 we only get £490 about 580 US dollar and free one year Disney+ subscription.
Watching this from my flip 4. Great review
Best reviewer of foldables on the internet. Thanks! Can't wait for the fold review
I'm loving my zflip 4. The battery life was my only gripe about my flip 3. The flip 4 lasts so much longer between the slightly bigger battery and more efficient SOC.
Really looking forward to watching the review on Moto Razr 2022. Planning to change it from my fold 3. Although no razr DNA on Moto Razr 2022.
I was thinking about it... and I miss you being able to use your ring to enter the transit system (in Boston)!
Been saving up for a flip phone myself, and already pre-ordered mine, already know the flaws of the phone since the flip3 reviews and expected nothing new but still excited to get mine when it delivers.
Happy to hear that it's your first foldable yeah? You're gonna enjoy it trust me😁
Great review! (as always). I really want to pick this up.
Im mostly excited about the new chips and the next ones. The efficiency seems to be much better
Hey Mr Mobile, as I commented on some other person's video, I don't mind incremental upgrades, I think they are useful. What pains is when you know something can be done better, and it's not, like that front screen.
Honestly I'm planning on buying the flip and the only review without any baised or bs...ty for the honest review and so I'm subscribing
I think Samsung missed the mark for not including DeX despite the slight battery increase and inclusion of the flex mode touch pad. The S8 and Note 8 both ran on older hardware and smaller batteries yet it supports DeX.
But then again only a small portion uses that feature (myself included).
I have a note 20 ultra and I only used Dex like 3 times. 🤦♂️
To be fair, the s8 and note 8 required the dock to use dex
For some reason I can only think of DeX as a niche enthusiast feature. I and many of my friends/family own Samsung phones, yet only I have heard about DeX. And I have never used it myself either. This is obviously an anecdote, but it would be nice to see data on how many people use that feature.
Yes, there was a poll on YT that suggested very few people care a jot about DeX and probably why Samsung is not going anywhere with it. I think the hype from YT influencers is just what Samsung asks them to talk about in their notes (NDA protected) or RUclipsrs are the biggest demographic for DeX. Just buy a good tablet for a similar price and have far more and you are not stuck at a desk with a monitor.
Write, thank you for the heads up, watched this on my Flip 3 which i bought due to your review about 8 months ago, and now will look at Canadian trade in offers....
Can't wait for you the Z Fold 4 review by Mr. Mobile!
Can't wait for your Watch 5 Pro and Fold4 reviews.
Always, Love the Deep Review.
Finally made the plunge into the fold today myself. Even though Samsung's trade-in credit for my old device was only $225, that was more than enough to take away the sting from paying full retail. Looking forward to present-day phone fun
Yeah, my provider wants to credit me $250 towards my Note20ultra/512gb for a "Free" Fold. Sure, it's a great deal. But turning in my $6-800 phone is absolutely Not Free (and lured me away from more pressing things)~
Great review as always
I think Microsoft Remote Desktop might be a good candidate for the flex mode. The flex mode gives a more PC-native way to control your remote computer. My workflow heavily depends on remote desktop, so I think it's pretty useful for me.
Always great videos!

We need a homescreen set up video. Probably using nova but that homescreen and setup is nice as hell.

Yoo great video as always♥️

What's up Mr. Mobile,
Been a fan of your content for quite some time. I noticed you have beeper or what looked like beeper on your dock. Are you going to give your thoughts on the app? I am currently on the wait-list and would love to see a review or your take on using the app. Keep up the great work.
The trade-in is insane, yeah. I got my Z Flip 3 refurbished (in practically open-box condition) for $600 and I can use that to get $900 off my Bespoke Flip 4 preorder. Honestly worth it if not just for getting a fresh warranty and whatnot
It's a cool thing. If you have the opportunity to try one with a return policy I would recommend it. Once the novelty wears off it'll either fit your lifestyle or not.
I had one for a week and decided to return it. My favorite thing was controlling music on the folded mini display at the gym. Wasn't a fan of trying to fit a case that I could use with magnetic plate.
For anyone who buys one I'd suggest going into the battery settings and enabling "light" mode which helps with battery life. They say it slows the phone down but for everyday use I noticed nothing.
Michael, i just notice thet the way you speaking on the video so far is so much more like i am watching robert Downey Jr's iron man speech, and that's Amazing👍👍👍👍👍
I love your style of video editing! Please tell me where you learned this skill!!
I'm happy to see how here in Italy, almost since it first released till now, the Flip 3 costs 650 USD. Hey, if you want that cool new form factor you can get it for less than an iPhone 12 mini!
Thank you for the great videos, I live in Austria and would love to have the foldable moto as I have has several motos before and loved them. nonetheless what would you suggest i should get?
Upgraded to flip 4 love it for what I do. Cover screen nice but not that serious. Love the phone. No issues with 3 now enjoying the 4.
Waiting for Fold review. I cancelled my Flip preorder for a Fold preorder. I cannot wait to get my hands on it.
Hey Mate. What's the wallpaper name you using on the Flip 4! Looks awesome.
Just got my handset today, upgrade from the flip 3....loving it
Please do more videos on Smartwatches, especially the high end ones. Like the TagHeuer (if it ever gets WearOS 3) Also do a video of what smartwatches are actually good for. Like if there are proprietary apps with MontBlanc, or TagHeuer, or Samsung that are worth having that you don't get with the other.
That 90s era camcorder commercial kills me every time I see it 😂😂
Great review as always. The wife wants to know when iPhon e will come out with a flip phone?
That crease!!!! it would drive me insane subtle as it is.
Couldn't help but creep-out on your Project Repat email! I converted most of my old ThinkGeek tshirts into a SPECTACULAR Project Repat quilt. I love it more than I loved the original shirts.
got mine yesterday and i love it!
I just wish they would have a small snap feature like the Nintendo DS so you can watch videos almost fully open. Would also make it great for emulation of old games to play like a game boy and such.
2:15 That's the part that convinced me that Mr Fisher is the King of cool. Besides, being the King of reviews (along with Mr Cogen) and clear pronunciation for at least 10 years.
7:39 Wait what? That's amazing.
My S22U can't even last till 2PM under heavy camera and RUclips usage.
I have a Flip 4 pre-ordered through my carrier for my wife. I'm thinking it will be a bit of an upgrade over her 20FE but we'll see what happens. I'm sticking with my ZF3 for the time being.
Love my flip 3 and with the samsprung app you can use literally any app on the cover screen!
Awesome Review as always!
Im in the UK and have a flip 3. Pretty envious of the US trade in promo.
Max we get is half price with trade in.
I have though, ordered the new razr from China. hardware seems to be for global use:
4/5g bands covered, English option baked in, and no block on google services (as easy as installing an app).
I think the European launch is in December. Not sure about the US.
Although it has superior specs, i get the feeling its chunkier size, smaller battery (no wireless charging), thiccAss bezels, and premium price tag may put a few people off.
great review, can you see Teams and Outlook and Gmail notifications on the small exterior display?
Watching this on the z flip 4 that arrived today good upgrade over my z flip 5g and good companion phone to the pixel 6 Pro
I was waiting in anticipation for your review since there is no major differences between 3 and 4
I hope you're doing a review of the Watch5 Pro because every year I keep thinking, "Maybe wearables have finally matured," then waiting another year.
I'm hoping Mr Fisher will be reviewing the new Asus Zenfone! Really value his reviews.
I just purchased flip 4 recently. Hope I can have some playful with it. Thanks for your review.
Unfortunately, Samsung had quietly gone and lowered the trade-in offers for the 128GB and 256GB Z Flip 3 models. Those are only $700 and $800 respectively. Only the Bespoke version offers the $900 trade-in value. Well, that or the S22 Ultra and Z Fold 3 also, but I digress.
I was sad too
The crease is there because Samsung's hinge style is the only one that allows their fold devices to be water resistant. I learned this watching TechTalk TV RUclips channel and think its really important top quality content creators like you Michael know this and mention it. Samsung have been bashed about the crease by every top level content creator as well as us the tech geeks and yet nobody connected the dots and clocked on to the fact that Xiaomi, Oppo and Huawei between them all fail to offer any water resistance, but yet all share a similar 'tear drop' hinge system.
Besides that, Awesome video as always, looking forward to the Fold video as well bro.
Awesome shots
A bit late but I have to say it...
I just love your reviews!
Recently actually got the Z-Flip4 through T-Mobile. I was gonna do a trade in with my S22+, but because it's a newer model, I didn't need to trade it in! The camera is pretty alright (I do prefer the S22+ due to it's more crisp details) and I do admit the fact it can work as it's own tripod and the way the algorithm helps "pop" out more color does give it a big plus. I'm still getting used it folding, but it does help in the grand scheme of things for someone wanting to lower down on texting 24/7.
Useful, realistic as ever. In case you don't already know, I found the audio quality on that to be rather weird at times. Mostly normal, but in some locations, really 'empty warehouse' sound :-).
The host shots are all filmed with the on-board audio from the phone, so you can get a sense of the entire video performance envelope. The rest of the voiceover is all sound booth.
Hi Michael,
When are you going to review the *Asus Zenfone 9??*
I would like to say that this is a great review, but what catches my eye most is that you’re subscribed to AmbiguousAmphibian @ 1:58 . I love your impeccable taste, good sir!
11:07 Was that supposed to be filp 4 review device? 🤔
Awesome video though, watched it on my fold 2 Looking forward to the fold 4 review! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Still wish this had DEX, but I loved the flip 3 and will be getting a flip 4. This is the only phone in as long as I can remember that has made it as my day to day for a whole year.
It's possibly still getting dex right?
I received my Flip 4 yesterday (Aug 19 - got 500$ for my old Note 10+). I am delighted with it. The battery life is above what I expected, with 6 hour screen on time with first use and over 7 hours screen on time today. The form factor is a treat. The crease is barely noticeable. The 22:9 ratio is kind of genius given the front hole punch camera; when you watch movies in full screen the phone has a black border that hides the camera, but rounds off the corners to make the viewing experience a perfect 21:9 ratio. The screen is silky smooth, the feel premium, the hinge satisfying, and the cover screen offers essential functionality. In short, this phone is exceeding all my expectations for the first 36 hours!
So much Alliteration! Love it! 🤩
That trade-in offers make me feel so jealous...
As always, great insights on the Device
