    [SAMSUNG GALAXY Z FLIP 5 VS MOTOROLA RAZR+]
    Over three years ago, Motorola kickstarted the clamshell revival with the resurrected MOTORAZR 2019 … and just a few months later, Samsung came for Motorola’s milkshake with a direct competitor: the first Galaxy Z Flip.
    Well a little under three months ago, I started to think history might be about to repeat itself. Because while I like Motorola’s Razr+ 2023 that dropped in June, the reality is that it’s a phone built around one killer feature: a huge cover screen that lets this flip phone double as a tiny phone. With not much else to set the Razr+ apart, I speculated that all Samsung would need to do to crush it would be to release an updated Galaxy Flip that did the same thing. And lo and behold, Samsung has done just that.
    Today on MrMobile, we’re putting the world’s two best flip phones head to head! Join Michael Fisher for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 vs Motorola RAZR+!

    This is one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched comparing these phones. The head-to-head comparisons of all the features were really thorough and I appreciate that immensely, especially the comparison of the cover screens. The Razr's cover screen functionality alone is probably enough to sell that one to me over the Flip 5, that sort of Baby Mode of the Flip 5 cover screen already made me feel borderline enraged haha, whereas being able to do virtually anything on the cover that you can inside, including adjusting your pulldown settings, sounds like exactly what I want. (Plus, I despise Samsung's internal ecosystem, and I'll take any excuse to stay far away from it.) Thanks for the great video. Very insightful.

    Finally someone mentioned the real difference of usability between those two phones. I went to the motorola froma flip 3 exactly because I wanted more of that front screen and I barely need to open the phone now, which also results in less battery consumed. I compared the new motorola to my flip 3 for a couple of days(regarding the camera) and actually I prefered the results from motorola most of the time, except for sunsets and video. The flip 3 processed the sunsets beatifully, while the motorola's processing was really bad. BUT I kind of found a solution for this, too. Installed some latest gcam port and now it's rocking the photos, too.

      Most of Motorola's issues with the camera are software related. There are many great 3rd party camera apps that processes the image better than Motorola's camera app. The sensor itself isn't bad, though. It's almost comparable to let's say, an iPhone 12. I feel like the camera quality through Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook look much better than taking a picture through the stock app. It's such a minor issue though, you would have to be very picky to notice any difference. To the average consumer, the camera will be more than adequate to do the job. Most apps will compress the image quality anyways, so having the better camera on the Z-Flip will still be kind of pointless.

    I got to the point where I have to create a "Routine" just to be able to turn on my hotspot for my Navigation in the car on the cover screen. It'd be cool to see Moto innovate in the folding space more, Or even go fully crazy and try something akin to the LG wing for one of their flagship models one year. It's crazy that already a brand new, high tech sector of design is already feeling tired and same'y. Moto Mods were cool and while they ultimately didn't make the mark they wanted to, They did inspire innovation all round, especially with things like dual screen devices, battery standouts like the Note and Galaxy Ultra series, and even Motorola's own Stylo series. It feels weird then that when given another opportunity to go big, with at the least successful sales as one of the three biggest names in mobile, they'd play it so safe when they finally have another opportunity to be a proper stand out with some staying power.
      It just feels like we're in an age where while everyone is doing the exact same things, Moto, the reinventor of the flip phone, could make something as big and popular as the Razr was back when it released first.

Apps still aren't super well optimized for folding phones yet, though they are getting there. Also, unless you're a power user and/or working in a corporate environment, there really aren't a ton of use cases that justify the cost of the Fold. I use the big screen to watch RUclips and show off pictures, occasionally for Google Sheets or Docs. If you're an average user, you're mostly paying for the novelty. With the Fold 5 (and probably Flip 5 too) I feel Samsung foldables finally left the prototype phase. You can put it next to any S series phones and you won't really see the difference, no apparent HW limitations. The Fold 2 before worked for 2.5 years, and it's new owner is happy with it. But I feel lucky there and I was always a bit nervous that it can break. With the Fold 5, it feels like a regular phone that works through it's whole 4-5 years SW support.
    Even if there are strange HW omissions (like fast charging), Samsung is still the benchmark when it comes to foldables.

      To be fair, at this point they're the same price as a lot of flagship devices, the Razr and Flip are only 200 more than the galaxy s23, So it's honestly to a point where it isn't really a matter of price, especially if you're going through a service provider like at&t or Verizon.

    This was a great phone battle Mr. Mobile. If not for the sweet deal I got for the Pixel Fold, this would've been a tough call to see which flip phone I would get as an upgrade to my Z Flip 3. Based on the camera, that might have kept me in the Samsung ecosystem because I love to take photos and videos and Samsung had a good camera for a flip phone. But my Pixel Fold would crush those two flip phones in that department and I could not be happier about the decision I made going to the Pixel Fold. I would love to see you do a similar battle between the Pixel Fold and the Z Fold 5.

    I've had all the flip phones, from the Z Flip 5G to the 3 and the 4, and then the Razr 5G and now the Razr+, and I skipped getting the Flip 5 for now. I think the Razr is just as nice as the Samsung, even if the software isn't as useful, but I love the coverscreen, and I've never had an issue with it calling someone or anything in my pocket, and my dad has the same Razr+ I do and neither has he 🤷 but definitely a close fight!

    Great as always! I was debating both, but what edged me to the flip 5 was the trade in incentive, ultimately, it cost under 400 with the trade in of my S23 and the upgrade to 512 gb, sold it for me, if moto really wanted this phone in people's hands, they would have given you more than 200 for the S23, where samsung gave me 600, huge difference

    • @Marco-em2in
      @Marco-em2in 9 месяцев назад +6

      The last part of your comment is what leads me to believe Samsung is a company that lacks creativity. They are probably the first to push out high tech but they are not good at packaging it. This is why their phone designs have always evolved around what Apple does and now with foldables they evolve around Motorola and soon with Google. The good thing is other companies are not following Samsung and are actually being creative and finding ways that they can improve without copying. While Samsung started the whole foldable thing they are not the ones who will make it evolve into a form that will be accepted and replace normal phones.

    • @godhero2566
      @godhero2566 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Marco-em2inmicro changes happen so that they have something else to improve for their next phone. They are already making a phone right after the new one has been released. With that said. The criticism they listen to are the people from 2 generations ago (z flip 5 is an improvement of z flip 3 while the z flip 4 is from z flip 2 hence why the people were confused when z flip 4 didn't have a better cover screen even when they have been requesting it a year ago and it only came to z flip 5). This formula rarely changes. With that said even without competition they will do the same in my opinion, because z flip series has been one of the flip phones that still is trying to hit mainstream market even when no other companies had to balls to even bother.
      Just look on their perspective. If you made the best phone you can ever make, then how do you one up the next year? You can't so become a disappointment. S22Ultra and S23Ultra is the best example.

I really cannot stand Samsung Flip "gutter" for how deep it is. Someone said you only feel it during 1st 5 minutes yet I've tried and tried but still can't deny the "slip" feeling my finger felt constantly during scrolling. Its a touch screen of course I'm gonna touch it, so it really bugging me during using Samsung flip phones.

    No one seems to talk about the screen reflectivity. The screen protector on most foldables is very reflective. My Z Fold 4 is very reflective. Both of these flips look very reflective. The Pixel Fold is the only phone where people have mentioned the reflection. My Find N2 Flip, however, seems to have some sort of coating on the screen protector. It is hands down the least reflective. It makes a big difference.
