Just in time for me to upgrade from the Razr 5G I've been using up until now, too - I was considering going for a Samsung, but it looks like I'll be sticking with Motorola because the outer cover is just that compelling of a feature. Great review as usual. EDIT: Note that, as far as I can tell, the US version is the only one not to come with a power brick in the box - the international version includes a power brick and a protective cover.
I love these deep dives into modern phones, along with the older ones commonly featured here, can't wait for you to review the Z Flip 5 when it releases!
I've had a Z Flip 3 for 1¾ years now and while initially I just wanted a folding phone for the cool tech and would have preferred the fold over the flip, now I'm a HUGE flip phone fan! it's hard to explain exactly, but the formfactor is just SO CONVINIENT!! initially I felt like the Flip made no sense in comparison to the fold, but now I'm convinced it's the superior formfactor honestly, I can't see myself going back to a non-flip phone
I loved the form factor so much, but the consistently growing fold fractures bothered me too much. Definitely investing in one again once that's completely eliminated.
@@BreadCatMarcus yeah I feel that, I almost wish Samsung just threw away the ultrathin glass concept cause I don't really see it doing anything good but it definitely is the thing cracking my phone after almost 2 years only has some scratch-like stuff at the very crease, but so far the only problem with that is that it gives me some anxiety haha, looks similar to how the screen protector cracks for some people, but I've already had the screen protector come off many months ago so it's unfortunately on the screen
I also have a zflip 3 which I've been using for about a year now and while I love the phone, I really hate the screen protector problem which constantly seems to lift every 6 months and I wish the cover screen was more usable. I find it a bit ridiculous how I can't set a timer without presets, setup custom quick replies, or look at a shopping list with the device closed.
Great review as usual, my flip 3 is coming up for 2 years, I love the form factor but the lack of uses the outer screen has and the poor cameras meant I was going for a pixel 7, however I'm enchanted by the outer screen on this Motorola and hopefully the flip 5 will be similar..I'll now wait for Mr Mobiles review of the flip 5 before deciding which way to go

Got mine yesterday love it like you said it's the new compact android phone under 4 inches. My only semi complaint for my use it does get a bit warm in the hand but that could also be because I was setting everything up as a day one phone
It does run a bit warm when stressed. I didn't include that observation because it seems about on par with the thermal performance of my Flip 4 (but I admittedly don't really focus on this element of performance unless it's a problem).
Yeah this is one of the few cases I would've actually really loved to have the newest chip since the gen2 (idk to remember it's stupid name) has substantially better thermal performance and sips less battery juice.
I used to roll my eyes at tech RUclipsrs *cough-cough mkbhd* but your channel is so refreshing. Nothing is over exaggerated or fake feeling, just good breakdowns and reviews of the new and old!
Love your reviews. There is only you and maybe one other persons reviews I like as you have that confident demeanour as you talk which makes your videos more down to earth and believable. ❤
I haven't been more excited for a flip phone (or a foldable phone for that matter) than with Motorola's Razr+. Wishing it best of luck so small phones become mainstream in the near future... And who knows? maybe it'll become my first flip phone since my late Blackberry pearl flip
I like you man. I like you a lot. Keep doing stuff like this. I enjoy watching your videos whereas every other person I only watch 10% of their video cause you actually have a great personality. Great job dude.
I will probably never buy this phone or most of the stuff you review, but watching your videos while having my breakfast, or especially when I want something to relax, nothing tops your reviews Michael, lots of love and admiration.
I really like the use case of using the rear camera as a selfie camera bcause of the front screen, the best camera on a selfie scenario is pretty awesome.
This is the type of video im excited to see, it really contextualizes what its like to operate without opening the phone. The video call part is underrated because you can use the outer cameras instead. If we see the same cover functionality on the flip 5, ill go with that one because apart from the refresh rate on the cover being 60hz, its the better hardware.
I am glad to see the closed phone usage. With most companies and reviewers saying flip phones cover screens should be no better than a smartwatch, I feel this.
Hey, that cell reception thing you did in there? Even if it's just a 5 second segment in every video, let's keep that. Especially with all the problems that people have had (including myself) with the Tensor G1 and G2 from the new Pixels. For whatever reason, in all these mobile phone reviews on the internet....we never really take a look at signal strength. As always, great review.
Speaking of Motorola, I think you should do a video on the Motorola Krave for "When Phones Were Fun". It was a flip and my first touch screen phone. It had some truly innovative features for the time.
I'd say if you already have a big screen mobile device, flip style is the way to go. But, if you don't have one and want a "do everything device, then a good fold phone should be cool as heck
@awsxedc3 I have the fold 4 currently, but the more usable outer display and all of the pixel features with their fold is really tempting. On the other hand, the flip 5 is going to be considerably cheaper, and a unique experience. I only really consume media on my phone, I'm not a big multitasker. I'm gonna wait and see how the flip is before deciding on any of these 3 or just deciding to stick it out with my current phone for another year
The first two manufactures have experience in the foldable department. Google has a bad track record with 1st gen stuff also the Tensor G2 is pretty bad with battery efficiency and the Pixel is touted as the slowest charging phone series’s, so probably wait for the Pixel Fold to hit the bargain bin (I don’t see it holding its value well) or wait for second gen.
@superiortoall22 I had the pixel 6 pro and that was dogshit but I've heard better things about the tensor g2. Google has had years to observe the competition making foldables so I don't think the pixel fold will be as bad as the 6 pro was
I'm still using my 1st geenery Moto Razr foldable on Verizon and I love it! People always comment on it. And I've had zero issues with hinge or crease. Can't wait to upgrade to the latest model!
I love seeing the foldable category continue to grow! I haven't been able to even consider slab phones since getting a Fold3. It's just too nice to have the best of both worlds, in either form factor. Now if we could just trust Motorola to keep these things updated...
Great start to the review using the phone with daily life usability. It is the most important part of the phone's functionality. The front screen stands out for communication and the software adaptation looks like it was designed for real life. Thanks excellent reviews.
Just to say one thing: the first foldable that made me wanna buy it. I always edit my photos anyway. The only big drawback, and there's quality in Motophoto science. I like it in most situations, with a little edition here and there.
First time being first to comment here 😊 been a subscriber for many years (since pocket now days) Thank you CaptainTwoPhones / MrMobile for all your hard work!!! Shout out from the Philippines!
MrMobile, i am in love with this phone, i got it once trade-in time came based on your recommendation and i couldn't be happier, this really feels like a major maturing of folding devices.
Totally agree that this is for people who want a small phone. I get annoyed when reviewers compare the flip and fold. Theyre completely different markets. The folding phones are for people who would take a whole desktop computer with them if they could. Flips are for people who want a phone that can fit in a small pocket without losing any screen size.
That is something that got me interested in the 5G model, the usage of the outer screen. Barely had to open the phone. Never had a lot of issues due to the small chip, choppy pics or crease on screen, was way less than any Samsung foldable. I really miss the hinge, which help me hold the phone without smudging the screen, create a small cave with my hand which resonated more volume towards me. I'm interested in the new + model. Seeing how on hold calls are hung when closing the screen may be related to settings glitch, really hope the camera gets updates to fix those little details. I will have to wait till I get mine. Thanks for the info.
Excellent review. Even though I've never used one personally, I think the problem with outer screens on many recent flip phones really never been the size but how you've been allowed to use whatever space the outer screen had. With far too many of the limitations feeling artificial, not being able to read messages and sending to anyone of your contacts are a few quite frankly baffeling ones.
The only disappointment for me is the poor performance on 4k video and the oddly sized wide angle camera. The more true to life color saturation is fine with me. I'll still probably be getting this one. Thanks for the in depth review!
The first review you did that I watched was for the Lumia 1020 and i have enjoyed every one since. Your reveiws are always informative and entertaining. Great reveiw!
Tempted to get the RAZR, but going to wait until the Z Flip5 is officially announced before deciding. It's expected to also have a big front screen, the teardrop fold design, plus a Snapdragon Gen 2 processor and adapted Google apps especially for the Flip5 front screen. Also hoping Samsung feels the heat from the Razr and drops the price to $899 for preorders.
@@michaelt3308r u happy with it? Or do u prefer the Samsung more? I'm also about to get the moto but I'm intrigued by the new flip, I like the look of it's larger screen layout
So far I'm loving it. Love tap & pay. Everyone is very interested in what phone I'm using. Doing everything I need to do on the External Screen is awesome! Great Video.
I loved the form factor. I would love to have one so that I can use the folded outside screen for most of the time and the big screen as needed. I hope Google makes one soon. It is hard switching to another manufacturer after using Pixel.
Motorola has changed my stance on foldable smartphones with this device. Hopefully, the pricing in the Indian market is in such a bracket that i can consider purchasing this
@@sexyscientist That is pretty close to the sweet spot, if not bang on.. my guess is ₹84,999 for the 8/256 version. Hopefully, Motorola hits it out of the park pricing wise as well
I would 100% pick one up if I didn’t work outdoors. The risk of getting debris on the screen and folding it with sand or something in it are far too great. Want a foldable so bad though.
Wanted to tell you that you finally got to me. I picked one of these up yesterday with a great trade-in deal with T-Mobile. I know the new one is launching in less than a week, but for a secondary phone, I absolutely love it.
I received my Razr Plus yesterday, June 28th. Really want to love this version as the flip style implementations are preferred compared to a brick style smart phone. So far battery life is good to great. I am a moderate user and find much of the use to be snappy. I have noted that at times my transition between apps and scrolling to be somewhat jerky and not as smooth and polished as I have come to expect. I will put this through the paces to see if this is right for me. Thank you for the good review. I look forward to a follow up review for the Razr Plus.
Day two of my use and overall the battery life is adequate. My initial observation is the Flip phone competition is good for overall product development to ensure everyone innovates instead of just doing the bare minimum and calling it an upgrade. Ultimately I will end returning my Glacier Blue Razr Plus. This device is nice but I am disappointed in the overall product. In my opinion this device does need the premium specs to include the latest processor as well as 12 GB of RAM. The Razr will be a great Phone for most users, however it will not merit my long term use.
Day seven of my use and overall battery life is quite good. Ultimately, I will end returning my Glacier Blue Razr Plus. This device is nice, but I am disappointed in the overall product. In my opinion, this device does need the premium specs to include the latest processor. I believe the 8 Gen 2 as well as 12 GB of RAM would be the icing on the cake. The Razr will be a great phone for most users. However, it will not merit my long-term use. To ensure Samsung is put on notice, they must step up their game this will be essential for Motorola to succeed. So far, my favorite phone this year is the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. Hoping the Galaxy Flip 5 will have 12 GB of RAM may a premium Ultra model. The battery life needs to be better. However, I do believe this will disappoint me in the long run. Maybe next year will be a banner year for the flip phones. For anyone that has Verizon service, the unlocked version works well even though it doesn't have the MM wave 5G. I still get 5G service even in my area.

EDIT: Note that, as far as I can tell, the US version is the only one not to come with a power brick in the box - the international version includes a power brick and a protective cover.
Thanks so much for the review. I always enjoy your production and humor. I ordered the Razr last week. I should get it tomorrow!

This video had a whole retro feel, which is a nice touch. Brought me to the days of my Moto Razr V9m.. man, do I ever miss that phone!
I love these deep dives into modern phones, along with the older ones commonly featured here, can't wait for you to review the Z Flip 5 when it releases!
Great review Micheal! I've been following you since pocketnow days.
@@BreadCatMarcus yeah I feel that, I almost wish Samsung just threw away the ultrathin glass concept cause I don't really see it doing anything good but it definitely is the thing cracking
my phone after almost 2 years only has some scratch-like stuff at the very crease, but so far the only problem with that is that it gives me some anxiety haha, looks similar to how the screen protector cracks for some people, but I've already had the screen protector come off many months ago so it's unfortunately on the screen
Great review as usual, my flip 3 is coming up for 2 years, I love the form factor but the lack of uses the outer screen has and the poor cameras meant I was going for a pixel 7, however I'm enchanted by the outer screen on this Motorola and hopefully the flip 5 will be similar..I'll now wait for Mr Mobiles review of the flip 5 before deciding which way to go
Haha same, I won't ever go back
I've been waiting for the full review before buying, now I just need to wait for Magenta to be back in stock in the UK! Thanks Michael
I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoy watching your videos. Its not just about the reviews of the product, but the whole story around it, and that makes you channel so unique. B roll, A roll, background score, you name it!
9:10 So cool seeing you outside of Shades of Green! One of my fav hangout spots with my friends, hoping to bump into you there sometime soon!
Great video as always Michael! Have a good weekend.
I am surprised despite the average camera of the Moto ,especially video , it managed better color reproduction and dynamic range in many scenarios.
I still use my 2019 mostly closed and have all these years so I'm glad to see a large screen return.
I will probably never buy this phone or most of the stuff you review, but watching your videos while having my breakfast, or especially when I want something to relax, nothing tops your reviews Michael, lots of love and admiration.
Finally looks like the flip market is maturing. Kudos Moto. This is a good one. Hope it gets the bump in sales it deserves
Enjoy your videos over the years. From Pocket PCs to Smart phones always nice to see👍
"because, you know ..orange man, bad!" 8:48 🤣
These continue to be the most realistic unbiased reviews. Thank you
You've almost convinced me. Can't wait to hear your evaluation of the Pixel Fold. ☺️
Noted; I'll try to include it as often as possible!
Also amazing content from you! The only premiers I ever watch on RUclips
Speaking of Motorola, I think you should do a video on the Motorola Krave for "When Phones Were Fun". It was a flip and my first touch screen phone. It had some truly innovative features for the time.
This is my go to channel to all things mobile. Youre the best
The video I've been waiting for. Trying to decide between this, the flip 5 or sticking with the fold format and trying the pixel fold
Exactly same situation for me
I'd say if you already have a big screen mobile device, flip style is the way to go.
This is the first time I've wanted a Moto Phone in years! Looks like they have a potential hit on their hands.
You rock Nothing Ear? Hell yeah, bro! Thanks for the excellent review as always. I'm so stoked for this phone ☺
First time being first to comment here 😊 been a subscriber for many years (since pocket now days) Thank you CaptainTwoPhones / MrMobile for all your hard work!!! Shout out from the Philippines!
Thanks for the longtime support! 🫶
MrMobile, i am in love with this phone, i got it once trade-in time came based on your recommendation and i couldn't be happier, this really feels like a major maturing of folding devices.
I love mine, battery life was the only thing I was worried about. It's just as good as my S22 Ultra. Perfect upgrade.
A very well written review and really good editing to match that. Awesome video Captain
Since I had Motorola Flipout in 2012 I always wanted flip phone with full half screen and finally they nailed it after 10 years.
Because of this review I may now consider a flip phone as my next phone. Words I never thought possible
Epic review as always! I love how you don't focus 70% of the video on the cameras like certain other reviewers. I *caugh* MKBHD❤ */caugh* 😂😂
Just ordered the Razr out of necessity. My Flip 3 is on its last leg. Wanted to wait for the Flip 5 but needed a new phone ASAP
@@michaelt3308r u happy with it? Or do u prefer the Samsung more? I'm also about to get the moto but I'm intrigued by the new flip, I like the look of it's larger screen layout

Lol fold 5 is 2399$ in Canada... They're crazy...2899 for 1tb and 400$ of tax😂 time to switch
Of course it was Tim! Haha. Great review Mr. Mobile!
Motorola has changed my stance on foldable smartphones with this device. Hopefully, the pricing in the Indian market is in such a bracket that i can consider purchasing this
I'll tell you my confident guess. ₹89,999 for 8/256 version
@@sexyscientist That is pretty close to the sweet spot, if not bang on.. my guess is ₹84,999 for the 8/256 version. Hopefully, Motorola hits it out of the park pricing wise as well

calling stackbounce 'rotating kebab game' was lowkey my favorite part of the whole video
im so happy that the flip folds are going into the compact form this is what i need. i want to be able to have my phone in my front pocket
How are you liking the phone so far?
@@terronb9483 really good so far. Typing this on the cover screen.
Haha, charging a RAZR with a Razer! I love it!
Hey, someone noticed! 😄
Thank you for focusing on UX features like haptics and less on specs. Awesome phone, awesome video!
For the algorithm. ✊
Thanks for talking about the call quality, some of us old-school folks still use these devices as a phone 😉.
Orange man bad
