[GOOGLE PIXEL WATCH REVIEW]
The years since Google’s smartwatch platform hit the market back in 2014 have been … chaotic. In the face of lackluster demand after several generations of smartwatches, Android Wear would be rebranded to “Wear OS” and undergo a painful parade of reinventions, often hamstrung by underpowered silicon and inconsistencies across its various hardware partners. Samsung got so fed up with Wear OS that it pivoted to its own Tizen software to power its Galaxy Watches for several years, only recently having been wooed back. Pebble, the OG smartwatch maker, got bought by Fitbit - which in turn got scooped up by Google. And in the midst of all this upheaval, Apple just kept counting money, selling millions of Apple Watches across eight generations of slow but steady iteration.
Flash forward to 2022 and the Pixel Watch is the smartwatch Google built to change all that. Like many first-generation products, it’s too expensive; it doesn’t do enough of what it promises; and it has no chance of living up to its hype. But it’s also proof positive that Google actually cares about smartwatches again. I’m Michael Fisher and I’ve spent a month with the Pixel Watch on my wrist: join me for the Google Pixel Watch Review!

You are the only youtuber for whom i don't turn on the live captions, your narration is so well structured and cohesive that it feels like I'm listening to a nature documentary!!!
once again watching a mr. mobile video whilst having zero intentions to get the reviewed product just because his videos are so damn good. Please never change, by faaar one of the best tech reviewers out there.
Very much agree, just the facts and nothing else but some fun experiences or detrimental problems shown in his videos
Agree, nobody comes close.
Agreed. Watching this one solely because it's a Mr. Mobile video. Just can't find a use case for a smartwatch now, and maybe ever 😅
Likewise
Same here
This is the best Pixel Watch review: covering from the birth of smartwatch, to all the great things about Pixel Watch, tiny details, and what could be improved. Hoping that the Pixel Watch 2 will come with bigger sizes, lesser bezels, and improved software 🤞🏼
Yeah
Also better battery life
I will definitely be buying a bigger one if it comes out but it stinks that due to the proprietary band connector your old bands will be useless.
I am hoping they make a more tic watch version
Same, expect nothing less from Michael, he is a top knotch reviewer.
As for this watch, I feel like a broken tape recorder, small bezels and definitely longer battery life.
I dont think anything has beaten my original Amazfit Bip which had 30+ day battery life and then upgraded to the Amazfit Bip S. The Bip S battery life wasnt any better or near as good but for me easy 20 days on a single charge.
It's honestly incredible how nothing has come close design wise to the VERY first android wear watch ever, The Moto 360. Had 0 bezel and looked stunning. That flat tire that was so maligned back then looks minuscule compared to the bezels we're getting today. What happened?
And the Huawei watch, those 2 were the best
They got 'rid' of the 'flat tyre' by hiding it with a bigger bezel.
Samsung are one of the few to have done that well by having the physical rotating bezel hide some of it.
@@tams805 Except even they have gotten rid of that rotating bezel unfortunately.
@@_chan.burn.21_ absolute clown of a company ong..
The LG watch was the first
First "smartwatch" I had was the Timex Internet Messenger. Please look into that for your 'When Phones Were Fun' series. Not technically a phone, but I think it fits the series vibe. I signed up for yahoo text notifications, and would get sports, weather, and news sent to my watch. Not to mention the fact you could get text messages to the watch. It was a fun piece of tech that was ahead of it's time IMHO.
Just googled it and wow, what a cool piece! I'd love to have worn one of these back in the day, had I known about it.
The only unbiased reviewer. Never change. Thank you.
I have been pleasantly surprised with the battery life, performance, and utility of the first gen pixel watch. I've always carried two phones so I've been using my Apple watch for last 5 years and usually upgrade every 2 years. This kind of just plugged right in and I really felt at home and I use my pixel a lot more to leave my iPhone at home. Looking forward to that pixel tablet though. Enjoying the pixel ecosystem.
I want to emphasize them that it's really an understatement to have assistant on your smart watch instead of Siri, especially if you're invested into the Google home and nest products
You enjoy having a half baked ecosystem that will likely fall apart once Google inevitably moves on and kills the various teams supporting this ecosystem outside of the Pixel? To each their own, but Google has proven to be far more untrustworthy when it comes to long term support of their products outside of Google search, RUclips, G-Suite, and their mobile phone division.
I mean, if you're coming from an Apple Watch and that had acceptable battery life for you, then yes, this is going to be fine for you.
I agree with you, the battery life has been fine for me. I have AOD on and go to sleep with 45% battery left.
@@spencercarruth9706 Way to rain on someone's parade. You could have made your comment structured to be informative instead of a judgment to their opinion but you just went with the knives out instead
Michael has done it again with the best review I've seen of the Pixel Watch. I hope Google commits to this product line, but I wish I didn't have to. I think this shows real potential with a few iterations.
The last statement : " This is a review and not a commerical" made me so happy that i am with this channel since its origin. thanks Michael.
I have been so impressed with the Pixel watch. Coming from a Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, I have to say: this is absolutely better. App notifications are more reliable, the watch itself feels more refined and incredibly comfortable. Swapping out the bands feels intuitive. Even the battery life, which I expected to be horrendous, is at least good enough to get me through a full day from sunup to sundown. I wish it was a little bigger... But aside from that, this is a really terrific first-generation product.
You're opinion of it is exactly the same as mine. Enjoying this watch so much.
Same
My goodness... This man's writing skills just keep getting better and better. I'm always so thoroughly impressed by every review no matter the product.
Nobody narrates technology like you do. Always a pleasure to hear your "two cents" about anything.
I remember the first "smartwatch" I ever had was the Fossil Wristnet Watch. It connected to MSN to get news, weather and other info like that. It also had no data plan, you just got all the service stuff for free. It was pre-smartphones by a significant period of time.
Michael you made a simple trip to the Google Store sound like sweet poetry! Those are the little things I really enjoy about your content bro!😎
Love how he mentions he took a nice trip to the google store, but forgot to mention that for his watch band he spent about 60 bucks on the watch band cause that's how much the pixel watch bands cost lol.
Awesome! Been waiting for this video. Thanks for making it.
Thank you for your, as usual, spot on review of the Pixel Watch. Of all the reviews I've watched on the Pixel Watch, yours is the only one that mentioned the lefty versatility (that's me) and I'm reorienting it as soon as I'm finished writing this. I think Google will incorporate fixes through software updates as it goes along. I noticed that the puck charger included will sit up reliably on it's side but there's no night clock to go along with it. I hope they enable more universal wireless charging so if you have a wireless mat you can utilize it. Thanks again Michael!
Great video as always! Can't wait for the mix fold 2 review 🤩
+
Gollly these reviews are amazing. So polished and clean. And your scripts and voice are great. Nice job
Nice review Mr. Fisher
I love how you do reviews. Just keep doing what you're doing.
I feel it is necessary because that way Google will know what are the things they need to improve on wear os in order to get a better general experience even for the third party manufacturers.
Great video as always Captain
Man, always love your reviews. As a longtime Nexus and now Pixel fan, it’s disappointing to see a smartwatch this underbaked. The design is absolutely gorgeous, but the price and flaws make it quite hard to buy or recommend.
Looking at it, I don't think the screen is ACTUALLY off-centre, but where the crown cuts a little into the body it sort of pushes the horizontal diameter a little bit, which definitely makes it LOOK a little off.
I love how you put your videos together. They're always clean and professional.
Your videos are always so precise and great to watch! Love them! Keep up the great work sir!
The American Psycho quote in here is one of the best surprises I've ever had on RUclips. Thank you. My favorite movie.
I was 100% convinced no one would pick up on it, lol
haha, I was just going to shout this out myself, loved that quote by Bateman and loved it here!
My gosh, the quality of your videos is top notch. Great story interwined with a deep and detailed review.
Thanks!!
8:14 I had completely forgotten about the Moto 360's screen! I only remembered about the "flat tire" that was controversial. With the exception of that flat tire, that's exactly how Samsung, Google and others should be doing their round screens! I still don't get why people keep defending them. Great review as always.
Excellent work as usual Michael, thank you
Thank you Mr. Mobile, as you are the industry standard of Tech Reviewers. So following you and taking in consideration your opinions is of great benefit to all of us. That being said, I'm so glad I waited for this review before pulling the trigger, as I had been waiting for this glorious watch to come out for years. It looks fantastic, and as you pointed out it seems to at least work well for what it's supposed to do; promising to say the least. However, as you ALSO pointed out some of the idiosyncrasies of it, they are game changers (such as the bezel, battery life and missing (for now) features). I'm going to do as you suggest and wait for the "sequel" 😉 So thank you as always for your fantastic to-the-point and very relevant review, and I look forward to many more (as I'm a gadget fanatic). Well done!
8:14 Hallelujah someone makes the same comparison that popped into my mind when seeing those unacceptably thick bezels. My good old Moto360 (1st gen) was a beauty. Shame Google didn't hold up it's end of the deal back then.
Great review as always Mr Fisher! Agree with most of your complaints, it is too expensive and has some compromises. I was able to get more accurate calories after a reboot and disabling some of the automatic exercise detections in the Fitbit app, and my battery life (AOD on, Tilt2Wake off) has been solidly more than 24 hours even with a 1hr workout (but I don't have the LTE model).
Love ur content as always micheal, keep it up!
Omg love these videos!!! I had a sidekick miss it i had the aol mobile communicator too. Can you show off the lollipop LG DLITE? That phone was quite cool too❤❤❤❤❤. Thank you!🤩🤩🤩
I went with the fossil 6 with wearOS 3. It's been great to use after how buggy the 5 was on wearOS 2
Still rocking my TicWatch 3 Pro Ultra GPS a year on, and still loving the performance and battery life. Also, no bezel issues here. Its pretty rugged too with no dings or scratches either.
I would rock mine, but I started noticing it lagging a lot which started getting on my nerves. Tried resetting the watch and it fixed the issue for a day or so, but then it started lagging again.
my first experience with a smartwatch was sonys mn2sw in 2012 which I thought looked great(which makes me wish they would bring back their smartwatch line beyond their wena devices). It`s been fascinating to see how how that thing had a few ideas ahead of its time and interesting to see how things have vastly evolved then.
Great vid, I was thinking just the same, its similar to apples first watch. But what a great start
I was waiting for your review Micheal. Thank you for always sharing your honest and sometimes brutal review. Cheers!!
Thanks for this ReWatch of your review Michael - strikes me perhaps this could be made into a CommBadge at sometime in the future, where it's size could work in it's favor, even if it would need a different speaker set up - any takers? And just to prove some of us listen: I'm just coming to the end of my first 27month deal with SurfShark, courtesy of a link from MrMobile himself, and have renewed to 2025! Hope you get some commy off repeats? 😉
As always an excellent tech review. Long may Mr mobile reign. Watching since the pocket now days.
Thank you, sir! Just got my new Google S7 phone and a Google watch. So far so good, still learning them.
Great review! I noticed Fossil Wellness Edition in the B-roll shots ⌚ Are you gonna cover it in a future video?
of all the reviews this is the one I've been waiting for! I got the bluetooth version and despite it's little foibles and small size I find that I absolutely love the watch and have about 25-35% on the battery left after 24 hours (on the lower side if I track some exercise during the day), so I have got used to popping it the charger during my shower/breakfast etc. Going back to my Galaxy Watch 4 classic or Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra I find myself conflicted by enjoyong the extra screen space and the software experience on the Galaxy but now feeling that the watches are uncomfortable, especially the Watch 4 Classic where the stiffness of the band makes it stand out from my wrist and look vastly oversized. So all in all the Pixel is a very comfortable, great looking watch with good features, a few misses and an unfortunately hefty price tag!
Dude I know exactly what you mean. for the Galaxy watch 4 classic I went through so many bands before I found one that was comfortable and for the Ticwatch 3 pro ultra, I don't know what it was but the bottom of the watch when against my wrist, made my skin itch and flare up. I don't know what kind of plastic they used on the bottom of the watch, but it irritated my skin something fierce, which sucked because when it came to battery life the Ticwatch was second to none lasting me 3-4 days.
Would very much love to see a comparison video of the Fossil Gen 6 updated to Wear OS 3 and this watch
Thank you for mentioning the Moto 360 🙏
I've been totally pleased with buying pre-owned previous gen Wear OS watches. I've got a few different Skagen Falsters, and a few Fossils. Same for my wife.
I love that you can switch this to right wrist mode. I'm right handed, but always preferred wearing watches on my dominant hand
That's rare.
This looks like a step in the right direction. My smart watch journey was Pebble, to Samsung Gear S3 to Garmin Fenix 5X (still have all 3). After being on Garmin for the last 3 years as a runner and exercise junkie, I don't think I can go back to watches that have to be charged every 24 hrs. Hopefully we can get smartwatches from Google, Samsung etc that actually last 3-4 days on a charge. I will be in the market to upgrade next year this time.
Honestly I'd say the best way for them to go that long is to tap Mobvoi and copy the design of the Ticwatch pro 3 ultra. Cause if that was the only smart watch I ever owned running wearOS that lasted me 3-4 days and it's all thanks to the dual screen setup it uses. If only that watch didn't lag a lot of times, it would still be number 1 on my top list and I'd still be using it daily.
Mr Mobile NEVER misses, been watching your videos for years since like 2016 and I absolutely love every video. Keep killing it Mr Mobile!
Thanks for the review!
Just realised though that you didn’t do a galaxy watch 5/pro review :( any chance of it even tho it’s old now?
My first smart watch was the Sony Ericsson MBW-150 Music Edition. Ok wasn't actually a smart watch but allowed me to control my Walkman Phone and read message notifications, that was 2007 (I think). Anyway, loving my pixel watch as recently migrated away from iOS and really impressed overall. I'm powering through with only charging once a day with sleep tracking and a 30 minute run most days, but I do not use always on display because if I'm not looking at it, it doesn't matter to me.
I'm still using my Gear S3 Frontier and it's still fantastic. My next watch though will probably be the Garmin Instinct series though since I primarily just want notifications.
Nicely done Michael!
Absolutely loved your review. Could you please review the Huawei watch GT3 Pro Titanium? I still remember when you used to work for Pocket now back then, then switched to your own successful RUclips channel. More power to you ♥️
I think he reviewed the Huawei watch 3 last year, if I recall it correctly, but he hasn't reviewed the newer Huawei watch GT 3 pro, although it's been 4 months since the launch of Huawei watch GT 3 pro. It surely is an underrated watch.
Another brilliant review, you knocked it out of the park! Thank you.
Absolutely frikkin' marvellous review - thanks Michael, for saving me the effort of buying first & finding failure, and for pointing me in the right direction! 😊
I very much agree with you about the built-in speaker on the watch. I was taking a phone call on my pixel watch because I couldn't get to my Pixel 7 Pro in time. And, sure it was tinny... which I just kind of put up with - but then as the call continued, my co worker suddenly started sounding like the Imperial Probe from the beginning of Star Wars V - to which I just gave up and switched to a conference call in my PC.
And battery life was definitely noticeable. I can get about a day or so out of my Series 7. Not even close with the Pixel Watch.
Luckily I’m testing it for my Podcast channel, so I have no plans on keeping it. Would, equally, agree that waiting for the next Gen Pixel Watch is the better choice. It shouldn’t be a surprise, though. 1st gen anything’s are never really the safest bet. Whether that’s mobile tech or even something a bigger scale like cars…. As they often have issues with the engine, transmission… etc.
The Pixel Watch has a lot of potential as you stated, and it’s still awaited to be seen as we look on to future generations of this wearable.
Great review, thanks
Caught the American Psycho reference! Great review as always 😄
I just got mine a few days ago. Bought it off a guy who bought it and used it for only a couple days before getting the new samsung watch 5 pro. it was pristine condition and looked brand new, guess he was the kind of guy who actually cares for his products like I do, but he sold it to me for $280 which was great. The only reason I got it is because my Galaxy watch 4 classic sucks when connected to my pixel 7. But all in all I love the pixel watch. I had an apple watch before and the pixel watch reminds me a lot of the apple watch in both design (minus the fact pixel is circle and apple is square) and the user experience, except the pixel watch has better watch face options as all android watches do. Also as far as battery usage, I use AOD cause well, AOD doesn't drain that much battery as people think, and I have it connected with LTE and I get an entire day with the watch on. I know most people want it to last over night too, but I'm not the kind of person that likes to sleep with any jewelry or accessories on my body so it's fine for me to just place it on the charger at night. The ONLY problem I have with the pixel watch is AOD doesn't work that well with 3rd party watch faces. After a few minutes the screen turns off defeating the point of having AOD on, but the stock watch faces stay on all the time so there's that. Sound quality... I like it. Only time I'll use the watch to take phones calls is if I'm driving and don't wanna pull out my phone and I think the sound is good for it's size, not the best, but it's good. Honestly though I hope the pixel watch 2 has a bigger design so we'll get more battery life, and while I do like how the watch looks, I hope they reduce the bezel and bring the metal part of the watch higher, because if you get one you'll want to get some sort of case to protect it because once that metal ends and the black part begind which is 50% of the watch...it's all glass. I got the spigen case for mine.
I wanted to get one at launch but the reviews and price did put me off abit. I finally got one brand new from ebay for £176 which is a good price. It doesn't feel as small as people say. It reminds me of the first galaxy active. I have a case and screen protector on the way as I do with my Galaxy watches.
It been a while since you did a "when phones are fun" video. I was hoping to see one soon...
Still rocking my pebble time steel!! Shout out to Rebble for keeping a great device alive!
I use a Galaxy Active 2, still going strong, but my Pebble Time Steel is still in the inner pouch of my backpack, ready and configured. I think to this day as far as notifications go Pebble had nailed it perfectly in the Time series and nobody even comes close. I would consider a Pixel watch if it came with standard 20 or 22mm bands, so I can use my own I've been using for over a decade, if it lasted about 3-4 days like my GWA2 (the Pebble still does 8-9 days easily), if it had a better protected front glass (my Active 2 is also chipped on one side, but it's barely visible, and the Pebble needs a good glass polishing, it's covered in scratches at the moment, but as it's not touch sensitive, you can just polish down the glass). I'm also hesitant about Wear OS, I've been burned before with Fossil.
Until they rip my Pebble Time Steel from my hands I'll continue to enjoy an "always on display" on a watch that maintains close to week long battery life. Rebble even somehow managed to get Google to update the Pebble app to continue working with newer Android phones! What a community!
7:53 love this watch face and a big fan of Mondaine watches
Love the wear os update on my fossil gen 6. Want to buy the pixel watch to have the assistant, but can't get over the compromised of the pixel watch at that price point. Hoping the pixel watch 2 comes with smaller batteries, bigger size and longer battery life
What a solid and neat review from a gentleman.
Cheers Mate.
Saw the Nothing Phone in one of the shots....hope to see a review soon.
Great video. That screen is not centered at all. I would not be able to own it because of that. How was that overlooked.
Great review Micheal,
I absolutely agree, it's a neccesary foundation for the upcoming google ecosystem.
I am a pixel 6 user coming from iphone and hoped that the pixel watch would give a similar reliability that my Apple watch S3 provided.
But after waiting a few weeks I've decided its too early to buy this product. With bad eyesight and having quite big arms the watch looks tiny on my wrist.
I really hope they will let me live out my childhood dreams again of having a computer on my wrist.
I'm impressed with my Pixel watch. I did get it half price though so it's a keeper.
I always look for ur reviews. Feels a lot like “real Life” and full of background
Just got Samsung watch 4 classic 46mm for 180usd, with basically the same hardware with watch 5 imo it's a deal.
Especially since it still houses the turning bezels that the successor (non-pro) obviously lacks
@@jfyne03 Lack of the rotating bezel has left Galaxy watch users with no upgrade path.
@@NeonVisual Presumably, the watch 5 pro isn't even well-received with its touch bezels, as opposed the watch 4 classic and watch 3.
I'm currently on the watch 3 and looking to upgrade but to the watch 4 classic. I'm heavily considering the 4 classic since it still houses a turning bezels and includes another 3 years of updates
@@jfyne03 The Pro lacks it as well.
@@unknown3158 Might as well say that.
Please make one of these great reviews for Galaxy Watch 5 Pro 🙏🏻
Everytime I see his reviews I end up debating whether I really need to buy that product! Great review Michael! Incase you've used the huawei watch gt3 series, any opinions on that? Seems to be fantastic except that you cannot respond to messages - like a true smart watch.
Couldn’t agree more! I opted for the Galaxy Watch 5. While it’s way smaller than I expected, it works really really well.
But fitness accuracy is crap. As a fitness watch the best out there for Android is the new huawei 3 series. Seems Apple are still the only snartwatch watch to have everything. Accurate fitness and apps. With android, it's either amazing tracking like the huawei 3 series or not so accurate for fitness, like samsung, ticwatch, pixel, etc, but good for apps, but still not a patch on apple.
The thing that stops me buying other android snart phones are poor battery life and less accurate gps and tracking.
With android alternatives seems no choice, either go for apps or go for accuracy, but dont have both.
Have had the galaxy 5, and got rid of it, as I wanted best tracking accuracy and after reading reviews on the huawei 3, ended up with the gt3 pro, and it certianly has the best fitness tracking accuracy, and almost up there with apple
Just the review I was waiting for!
Love your reviews. Everything Pixel is so lovely.
I was waiting for this review to make up my mind on this watch. The only tech reviewer I watch...
Mr Mobile is just God sent. This is the most enjoyable review I have watched this year. Keep doing you sir.
My fossil gen 6 has wear os 3.5 and everything you said about the pixel watch is true for that. Only two things are different. The battery life actually last me more than 24 hrs with the AOD on but there is no google assistant. I don't use digital assistants so it isn't much of an issue for me but I can't but worry that google not giving fossil the ablilty to use it is a sign their are well on their way to becoming more like apple. Honestly the fossil feels like the smartwatch I've always wanted now that the update has come.
Google with all the money and resource, spend how many years and this is the best they can do? Google is decent with software but when it comes to hardware they're lacking.
Been waiting for this one!
Yeah, my take was that it's basically a gen 1 Apple watch. That would be fine if we were in 2015... or even 2018. There are just too many alternatives at this point. I am using the Galaxy watch 5 Pro and loving it.
The review I’ve been waiting for!
Pebble Time, TicWatch E, Apple Watch 3, and now the Galaxy Watch 3. All were decent but my Pebble Time was probably my favorite piece of tech ever. Glad Google is now on board.
the vid quality damn good
Your videos are awesome, greetings from germany.
❤
All things great to utterly brilliant storyteller, Mr. Mobile. With that said, I would be hesitant to say that outside of Android, Google cares about anything mobile. Yeah it'll throw its money at it, sure, but look at all the wildly inconsistent offerings it has provided in the smartphone space, particularly with the Pixel. Yeah that seems to have changed a bit over the past two years, but no company throws more crap at the wall than, and no crap sticks less than thrown by, Google. I hope that changes. I REALLY hope that changes. But I have no reason to believe that consistency, which is so important in the mobile hardware, in addition to software, space is something that Google cares about.
That Google slap bracelet is awesome
I've been waiting for this review. I have not found another watch to replace my original Huawei Watch. It's just so high end, nice, sapphire OLED, and practically No Bezel... Why can't they reproduce this, just make it larger diameter and upgrade internals. It would be so so awesome!!!
It was CAD $900, but worth it.. it's now 9 years old or so and still great to use every day, and still over 1 day battery life.
Or you can stop being a caveman and just buy an apple watch
I agree, my moto watch 360 gen 3 ,still stuck on wear os 2.xx but lunch in 2020 , with same "old" 2019 processor than that pixel watch but not Samsung , SD-3100
Hey Mr Mobile, what keyboard is that? I'm a fan of keyboards with typewriter keys and I'm trying to find a good one.
Im confused, other then some reliability fixes and sensor tech, how is this different (or better) from other wearOS watches out right now?
Great review! My only issue with mine is when you rotate your watch to check time/notifications. Don't always come on. I even touch the face to turn it on and it never did come on. I had to slowly rotate back and forth to get it to come on. Don't know why??
I would have loved a review of the samsung galaxy wear s2 or something. that one looked like a phone with curved screen and home button
As always best in class reviews.
Short of battery life, watch sizes and cost I love it upgraded from Watch 4 Classic. Hated Watch 5 Pro ditched the physical crown. Must have some tactial dial or crown to navigate when these things get wet. As it's much easier to get your wrist wet then a phone that stays on dry land or inside a pocket.
I swear Michael, at 8:26 through that thinny speaker you sounded exactly like K.I.T.T. from Knightrider... 😆😆 And yes, that display is definitely off center. My OCD was triggered 🫣
