  • This bread is a little different and so very special, just like Julia Child. The buttery flavor makes this bread a cut above and cooking it in cast iron makes the color and crust just perfect. Give it a try.

For the last several years i have been guilty of looking up Martha Stewart videos when it comes to thanksgiving dinner. It is so nice to see Julia Childs talent being handed down. I can appreciate your timing when it comes to adding salt and fats(butter). You really do have a good understanding of gluten formation. Thank you for sharing your time and talent as every bit of this video shows true experience in the art of baking.

LOL Gotta tell ya what I did.....I was going to make 1/2 the recipe & just do 1 loaf..so I got everything started & then when I went to put in my flour..I thought...man thats soupy.. & then realized I measured out the water like the recipe said & had added 1/2 the yeast..1/2 the sugar..1/2 the flour...lol So I just started dumping more of everything in & I turned out 2 of the best loaves of bread I've ever made..LOL I was in the kitchen just laughing my butt off by myself around 2 am this morning...LOL I was a site to behold...LOL

Hahaha. That is a great story. Bread is unnecessarily intimidating. All you need for bread is yeast, salt, flour, liquid and time. If you have all those you will get bread. This is the kind of experience that makes you a bold baker.

Many thanks and loads of gratitude for your excellent low-key delivery- your mini-step-by-steps- the many important-to-look-for-details- the marvelous credits to Julia and, oh yes, it’s hard to remember that she has passed !!! And, you do her credit too !!! I ground my own wheat to bake bread for my family for nearly 22 years until a terrible car accident put me out of commission for 24 years. Now I finally have been able to begin baking again and being so rusty at 🥖 bread🍞 I was absolutely delighted to find your wonderful videos with your lovely-gentle voice & demeanor !!! I have baked your 😋 delicious enriched sandwich bread and my sweetheart was pinching himself when just the aroma of that perfect loaf was floating through the air while still baking. Needless to say it didn’t last long. I love your videos because I can easily follow along as you instruct us and I really cannot go wrong or bake a bad or just even
so-so loaf as long as I keep YOU in my baking sights‼️ I wish we were neighbors- you have such a calming influence in your videos ... my Kitchen 😇 Angel‼️I hope to be able to have the strength & energy to bake weekly or more often since my husband bought me a Bosch Mixer-Food-Processor and with your videos to help guide me in the use of a mixer I really cannot go wrong !!! 🙏🏼 Thank you-thank you‼️

I used to make bread all the time when I had a husband and kids at home and found it to be a soothing ritual with such satisfying results. Getting the yeast and liquid is the hardest part - I never had a thermometer so I did the water temp by touch - if you get it too hot or not warm enough then you don't get the best results. Haven't made it for YEARS since I've been alone - pretty much afraid I'll eat the whole thing by myself in one sitting - I love bread! I will whip up a batch of scones, which are delicious. I need to get a thermometer to take that guesswork out and do it again!

Great videos!! being a bread maker myself last 10 years I found that you do not need sugar to activate yeast, you can't simply use one tablespoon of the flour that you are using to make the dough out of, or simply nothing at all it will activate on its own if it is alive

Hi Debbie, I am new to making bread and have watched many many videos. I will stop watching them now because yours is the very best! Thank you for all your awesome tips and I am a butter lover. You had me at a full stick of butter!! I just ordered a bread hook for my Kitchen Aid and I can hardly wait for it to get here so I can make your bread recipe. Your bread turned out beautiful. I have sent your link to my daughter, she lives in a different state. We are having a hard time getting bread from the grocery stores due to the Covid 19 virus, so I tried making bread with the No Knead recipe. I have also lost strength in my hands and can't knead the dough. It was alright but not great. Thank you, thank you for this very well done video.

P.S. I made your bread recipe yesterday. I made a mega loaf (16"x5"). Bake it 35 minutes at 375°. Turn out really nice. I turned it out on a cooling rack. I waited until this morning to slice the bread. That allows the bread time and cool off and firm up. I used my bread slicer which I highly recommend for even slicing. I toasted a slice with butter. It tastes amazing. Like a fresh french bread. Does not have that yeast after taste. Very yummy. Highly recommend this recipe.

I just tried this recipe and made two of the prettiest loaves of bread ever. Of course, I enjoyed one slice and it was just as described. The only change was to add 1/2 cup oat bran to the flour. This was an ingredient from another favorite recipe and I didn’t want to let that go. I really appreciate the video tutorial. I would have skipped over the recipe without it. Thank you!

Thank you so much for breaking this all down. It has been many years since I have baked bread. This recipe is wonderful. I have a Kitchenaid stand mixer that is just a regular model and once I started adding the second addition of flour the mixer had a hard time handling it so I snuck in the salt and mixed for a minute and finished it by hand. I love kneading bread so it was fine. I did add the butter while hand kneading. Yup it was a bit messy but once the dough came back together it was nice. I did rise it in my oven. It had been used earlier and warm so I cover with cling wrap and put a bowl of water in with it. The rise was perfect. I did the second rise ontop of my stove while I was preheating the oven. This is the best white brrad I have ever baked. This will be a household staple! I was going to freeze the 2nd loaf but I don't think either will last long. Thank you again

Please, no need to apologize for making us wait and watch while the dough becomes what it SHOULD be. Bread is just that. A visual experience in baking. I've been baking bread for many years and I loved watching all Julia Child's cooking shows. How I missed this one I'll never know. Thank you do much for posting her recipe. You are a kindred spirit and she would be smiling to know you honored her by doing a tutorial on her recipe. I've never heard about the "letter fold" method before, so I'm excited to try it out. I'll be making a loaf of bread in my sailboat today, if I wasn't finishing off a loaf I made 2 days ago I'd make this recipe. Next time for sure! It looks so yummy, I wish I could have joined you and your Mother having a slice with a cup of coffee! I wish I found you sooner! I'll be looking for more of your tutorials!

Thank you so much Debbie for your veryyyyy helpful video. I just stumbled on to it and now I’m subscribed! I found that your detailed explanation on when to add flour to the dough during mixing. I’m so inexperienced that I thought that that when the dough wouldn’t pull from the bottom that it needed more water!!! lol. Anyway, my husband and I have been trying to make bread for a few weeks with varying levels of success but now that we’ve seen and heard your instructions, we’ll finally find perfection! Thank you again.❤

I am sure there are other fantastic white bread recipes out there but Debbie yours tastes great 👍 it is an easy reference I can pop back to. I have made this bread successfully many times.
By the way, I use those clear fruit and veggy bags from the grocery store. They are light and when I gently close them with one tie the air fills the bags so no greasing or Saran Wrap to worry about. Just thought I’d mention it.

This was a very good bread making video. I have made this recipe many time by hand. I wanted to see a video that showed using a stand mixer and this one was perfect. 😍👍
This is my favorite bread recipe. It has a nice crust, a solid crumb and an addictive flavor...great to eat by itself or with just a touch of butter.

I did make this bread with my stand mixer and boy that makes it easier for me. It had been a long time since I made it, but it turned out really great. I followed your direction about adding flour slowly at the end and what to look for in the dough and it all worked out fine.
      Thanks again!!! 🙂👍
