Build your aunt & uncle a new system, but install everything in the old tower. Fake them out for part 2
i actually like this idea :D
That is a bloody good idea! Hehehehehehehe!
I love the idea!! Sort of like a sleeper build :D Perfect!
Not sure if the old chase would have support for new motherboards tou🤔
I just upgraded my folks old gateway sx2110g with an hp 6200 pro. Cloned and swapped their win 7 install over to the new 250gb hdd that came with the HP, and just plugged in their old 500gb. It worked immediately and they were freaked out cuz to them nothing changed 😂
Plot twist: They tried killing it on purpose so Kyle could build them a new pc
YogscastMarshmellen Oh my lord
Well then I guess they failed pretty bad and didn't consider the possible ramifications from killing a pentium 4.
That could lead to a hazardous meltdown and a resonating cascade spawning in all sorts of hell as the core of the Pentium 4 with it's short Half Life rapidly decays into radioactive muon and tau particles, wait a minute... What universe is this?
The base universe where everything is pretty much stock,
what universe are you ment to be at..?
*deletes system32* help kyle my pc doesn't get into windows anymore
They should have pissed in the power supply, worked wonders for me when I wanted a new one.
tfw u pay $18 for a VGA cable while probably the whole PC cost $18 :D
I would not take it for free.
He should've gone to the thrift store and got a VGA cable there for like $5
@@Icybubba What I was gonna say
@@Icybubba more like $2
@@foxknapp2199 Got a whole PC for free from my physics teacher.
I take old computers. wipe windows and install one of the lite flavors of linux, have gotten good usability out of PC's even older than this one
Me too. The desktop I'm running right now is a DuoCore with 4 GB DDR3. I did replace the HDD with an SSD as a boot drive and repurpose the 150 GB HDD as a storage drive. Also completely cleaned it, replaced the thermal paste and installed a new CD/DVD multidrive.
Minty Fresh nice
@@tanner1497 Use lubuntu on something this old.
Unfortunately Ubuntu drops support for 32bit
@nunya Yeah try a 64bit OS in only one 1 or 2gb non replaceable ram ...
That's not going to work
You paid $18 for a VGA cable?!? 😲
That's the biggest travesty of this entire video.
You can get those 2nd hand almost for free.
Maybe he can do a return on it?
He should make it into a necklace and wear it like an albatross.
how many do you want I think I just threw out 5 or so...
Kyle, that's not a short with front panel connectors. The power button is constantly pressed, so if you hold it when u boot the pc, it will instantly turn off. Unjamming the power button should solve the problem, hope it helped :)
yeah it's a broken button
Yep I was just coming down to the comments to tease him myself :D
You know how that happened right? Parents coming to check on their kid while kid tries to turn off the computer...😉
Agreed... it's a short in the switch, not the cable.
was about to say the same
The Ram Only has around 850mb available because it's dedicated to the VRAM not the page file , the page files uses storage from an HDD or SSD not ram
Yeah.....you'd think a big time tech channel with over a million subs would know what a page file is.
I was about to ask why he said a page file took RAM. Lol page files are what is used when you run out of RAM.
He's also using cc cleaner ...
@@blckmlr7573 does it even have an eSATA slot on the MB?
@@blckmlr7573That thing appears to be running IDE all the way through. You're not finding an SSD running on IDE. Granted I'm just looking at the picture, I can see the HDD is currently on a molex power connector, I'd guess it's IDE. If that thing had SATA I I'd be surprised.
"Some sort of short in the front panel" No, you just have the power button stuck down, so after it boots it gets shut down instantly lol. Love your vids man
Yup. He's also giving up before even thinking about two serious potential issues: not enough memory, and a possibly maxed out hard drive (which tends to really slow swap file performance, particularly if it's heavily fragmented.)
I thought the same.he gave up quick.
Well if it's the pwr button (it is, no doubt) it's still a short
That VGA cable is more expensive than this PC
SA GamingHD The VGA cable is more expensive than a Nvidia Geforce 310, which Bitwit could have bought tho put in the computer to run at decent speeds.
Apache Levere putting a GPU in an old ass machine isn't an instant fix.
Video processing offload and recovering precious MBs of RAM assigned to the IGP is a big difference by adding a dedicated GPU.
*SEND THIS PC TO "LowSpecGamer" AND HE WILL MAKE IT RUN GTA 5*

*Crysis
Quarkz omg 😂😂
RandomGamingInHD could also use it, I assume.

I was just given a 10 year old "brand new" never opened dell dimension c521 machine. The guy bought it and never got around to putting it together, stuck it in the garage where it was covered with crap over the ten years only to be revealed a few days ago and given to me, even included a matching printer.
It is crazy to see brand new 10 year old tech.
Retro tech is pure gold. Take care of it man! You can build a sleeper PC with it anyway. 😁
EBAY!!!
I recommend doing like me. Make it a retro pc, get a good crt monitor, and use it for old games that look like crap on new systems, if it even runs on new systems. Windows 98 or Windows xp should do it. Or even good old ms-dos. Just be careful with net security.
Im going to pay hundreds of dollars for this pc, and then stash it in my garage for 10 years -No one ever
Same here, my aunty gave me a dell inspiron 9300 with its oficial dell bag all in mint condition. She never got to use it because she lost its charger
Kyle when he holds the camera

The video length was 9:56 which means you only needed to add 4 more seconds for the video to have 2 ads which means more $$$ but you didnt lol. Massive respect dood

Curt Cadet dud
dode
You don't need to correct him on that. He can say it however he likes. Personally, I flip-flop between dood and dude at times. Mainly dude though.
I think the 1920x1080 resolution was making it a lot slower that I could be. The integrated graphics cannot handle that resolution in a modern browser so allocates almost every resource to drawing the graphics and doesen't have room to play a video. I think would've been a better job if you could've give it a full format, put in 2GB of RAM and an AGP videocard just for the lols and to see how it works if given more resources. I know it would take a lot longer to do but you've been in a Scrapyard Wars video so that's all experiece to work with for a video like that.
P.S. thanks to all the comments but I have to make a couple of corrections: there are PCI slots and not AGP slots on that motherboard.
Yes, he should have gone for 1360x768 instead (768p). That's the best compromise between resolution and performance for hardware of that vintage. Lots of cheap monitors to be found with that native res too.
Clearly anyone who has to buy a VGA cable is not up to the task, But some RGB LEDS would make it faster BAWAHAHAHAHA
Half a decade ago I had a Pentium 4 3.0GHz PC with Integrated graphics and it was able to play 720p youtube videos. Now it cant run even 480p because of HTML5 player.
Edit: And I had 1920x1080 monitor
Would Adobe Flash Player work better than HTML5 on an old pentium 4 for RUclips videos? Is it still supported by YT?
iMaxel It's not officially supported but you can get a Firefox plugin
Geez I haven't seen those icons in years... oh the memories... gotta love it.
The first pc we brought to our home in 2001 had a hard disk drive of 1.5 GB. And RAM was some 256 MB, I guess. After installation of Windows 98, we had about 800 MB space left. That was the total space we had.
You should build them a PC.
ya lol
i9 7900x and 1080 Ti SLI. that should last them awhile... lol

For someone middle-aged who uses it for internet browsing? Totally worth it...
JackPecker911 that's the joke, you must be new here
MUSIC MATCH JUKEBOX!?!? Holy friggin throwback man. That was my Napster replacement back in the day... This video made me smile. Thank you Kyle!

WTF??
Thank you Kyle, was looking at restoring a Dell 3100 desktop, however after watching this, you have saved me a lot of time and frustration. So now I am going to use that time and frustration on building my own PC! Good Times!
MusicMtach Jukebox WAS legit.. once a LONGGGGG time agooooooo
Any computer that says "built for Windows XP" is more than 10 years old. Try 15.
Also, it probably would have run better at 800x600 resolution, which was way more common at that time. A complete wipe and reinstall would've gone a long way too.
Not saying that you could have run modern applications or 1080p video off it, but with the above tweaks you probably could have run most videos at 240p or 360p as long as only one video was playing at a time and the web browser was the only application running.
He would be better off going on eBay grabbing 4GB of DDR2 Ram, a 120GB SSD, a 1/2 decent sub $100 Video card with at least 1GB - 2GB of ram, and installing something like CloudReady OS on it as it way lighter on system resources, and considering the end user it would serve their needs better then any Windows OS ever could considering he said all they would do with the system is browse the web, and watch RUclips videos, and maybe some light office work which can be handled by Google Docs.
I had one of these computers back in 2013. It ran great but it had a 1024x768 monitor so that is probably why it was able to keep up at the time.
No he wouldn't. It can only take a max of 1gig of RAM which it already had. It uses DDR not DDR2. SSD Lmfao going to hook that up to IDE cable are you? No AGP slot for a vid card. It would have to use a PCI vid card. Good luck trying to find a 2gig PCI vid card. It will never be able to play youtube vids @ 1080P.
At the time these towers were first introduced circa 2003 (the one in the video was likely 2004, NOT 2007 as he suggested in the video or it would be running either a Pentium D or Core2Duo instead of a Pentium 4), 1024x768 was the mainstream resolution, and many of these came bundled with a 1024x768 15" flatscreen LED display, which was part of their appeal.
+RamZ WS Bingo. Had a variant of this HP as a teenager, brother got a later variant of the same tower. MoBo has 2x single-channel DDR DIMM slots (DDR2 on later variant) and MoBo can ony address up to 1GB of RAM. MoBo also only supports IDE drives. MoBo only came with 3x PCI slots (+1 AGP slot on later variant). Mine came stock with 256MB RAM and 60GB HDD. Upgraded to 1GB, added a 120GB HDD from a dead computer we had, and added a PCI edition XFX GeForce FX5200 256MB card.
Remember when adding a "PCI" video card meant your computer was too ghetto to support AGP 8X? Pepperidge Farm remembers, so do I and so does waffle911.
Disliked not enough rgb and tempered glass
I'm sure it's coming with the replacement build...hint hint..
Thanks for the spoiler. I only got 2 mins in and now I don't even have to watch the video.
I honestly didn't expect this comment to get likes lol
mah b, didn't even think about that. the "hint hint" was meant to imply he was going to build them a new one either way....with rgb and tempered glass XD

I love these types of videos
Bro I traveled back in time with this video !
I still use my windows 98 pentium 3 computer every once in a while
DragonKingGaav 1st, look at his username 😂 and 2nd, retro games, dude
I think a lot of us like to fire up an apple II or a commodore 64 from time to time. My internet of things enabled toaster is more powerful but there still useful

I still use my first PC for old games. And without lying it's pretty fast, much faster than some cheap shit Win10 laptops.

OMG, i remember me and my dad had the same pc, have some good memories going to friends and having lan parties :D
Rebuilt my dad's custom pc from 2001. Only costed $100 for a core 2 Duo setup and all the new parts fit in the old case. He still loves it to this day. I think if he ever complains about it slowing down again, I'll put an ssd boot drive in it.
Recessed power button. the cables are fine.
The power button is being 'held in' in that position. that is why it auto turned on when the PSU was plugged in and that is why it is shutting off after 'holding it in for 3 seconds'.
I used to have a different variation of the same system. Mine was the a450n. It was a monster of a pc. I’m pretty sure mine was the highest spec’d version. I wish I had kept the case. I had at one point stripped it out and put a whole gaming pc build in the old case but I moved the same setup to another prebuilt pc case and ended up throwing it out. I would love to get another one with a clean case.
stupid pfp
youre a man
Reviving old stuff is nice. :3
Why is tor installed on that PC?is she part of some shady shit Kyle?
Chaitanya Bhandari We've found the infamous hacker 4chan
Aunt and Uncle were OG haxxors
Chaitanya Bhandari So that's why AlphaBay is down, lol
Chaitanya Bhandari i thought tor browser got shut down
Probably think it will protect them from viruses on XP... Lol
Or Verizon (etc) throttling connection, if in doubt, blame ISPs for rubbish service in US.
I love breathing new life into older PCs. I almost prefer it to building a PC from scratch.
Have a nice day/night!
Same.
Dovetale I upgraded the HDD to a SSD my old laptop to pull it along as a 2ndary PC for a another year after I bought my Windows Tablet until I got my PC built (which I did and have had it for a year and I have since upgraded the CPU, MOBO, and GPU). Now I did repurpose the original parts into my new and rebult HTPC. I always get people asking me why do I always buy new electronics don't you have stuff already and I tell them yes and also I try to get deals on stuff and I will make some stuff last a long time (My old laptop I used for about 6 years and my old desktop lasted about 11 years (6 of them were with me). I also tell them I recycle most of old stuff too when I'm done with it.
also When I was younger and got hand me downs I loved upgrading them with parts that I had from other PCs.
There's always a good feeling about reviving old stuff back to life than just buying new stuff.
It's fun, but not on Pentium 4's. Last week I made two Pentium 4 keychains from a couple old dells :P
I have a 2007 Dell Vostro PC that I use every now and then. It can still perfectly run software that was made during it's time.
Still I believe the reason why these old machines cannot cope with modern browsing is because all the JavaScript hacks to make it faster that popped up in the last 5 years take a huge toll on the system.
I remember that style of HP desktop from back in my Geek Squad days. I don't miss it.
I love the old pc restoration videos. i can honestly say they are my favorite videos to watch
Just stick in a few Xeons, some Tesla's, and few hundred gigs of ram and you should be fine for light web browsing. Or RGB. That works too.
Nicholas Tan maybe word processing.
Other light tasks that you could do as well as is run 20 instances of crysis in 20 virtual machines.
Nicholas Tan, do you have a download link to this?
Nicholas Tan try to record rgb , 600mb per second of the video , I'm not uploading that
That’s exactly the same computer I had as my first rig. This brings back some memories. Mine had the exact same issue with the power
I just built my first computer a month ago, and the one I was using before this was an 11 year old computer, from 2009. It is an Intel Core i5 650, 3.2GHz processor. Though it is old, it wasn't much newer than this one in your video, and I had no problem playing playing RUclips videos most of the time. The computer functioned well for the most part, and having a discrete graphics card may have helped (GeForce GT 220). It had 1 Tb of spinning storage.
I have since upgraded to a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RX 5700 XT, 16Gb DDR4 RAM, and a 1 Tb M.2 SATA drive storage, all on an MSI X570 MoBo.
This new one blows my old computer out of the water!
It was a lost cause when it was released.
My phone is more high end than this
lol
my old phone was more high end than this.
ikr androids have better tech than this
The Punisher My grandma's old Motorola phone has beefier specs than this PC lol
Oddly enough, even my Phone is worse than hers...
The Punisher My toaster is more high end than this.
Try making a sleeper build with the same case but using a modern Pentium and whatnot instead, and also keeping the CD drive.
You’d be better with keeping the internals instead of replacing old shit with new shit. At least XP can run properly on a Pentium, with a modern day one you are limited to likely 7+ which is torture.
I had one of those up until recently. Mine had 2GB DDR2. Mine also had GeForce FX5200
There is something extremely satisfying about these types of videos. You get a like my good sir.
My mom had this same exact pc. We still have it haha
JoshIsReading your mom *HAD* It but she still *has* it?
We have exactly same computer downstairs too.
@@rflores.g I think he mean that they used it but now they r not
Did she upgrade it from XP?
Ayyyyyyyyyy
Friends have had a HP since 98, and now want a new one, I can't wait to see their reaction when it gets delivered at the end of month to them.
Truth. I clicked on your video because I am working on my HP Pavilion a365c desktop and thought I was seeing double! Glad I clicked on cause I never heard of PC-Decrapifier before. Good program. Thanks.
10 years later...
"This system is crap. An i7 7700k with only 32GB of RAM and a 10 years old gtx1080 ti, both based on a very inefficient architecture. And it is cooled using water!? Who cools his system with water these days??? Can't even run crysis 6 at 60 frames per second in 4k. Total crap!!! Replace it!"
So, sir... What's the future of cooling ?
You tell me ;)
Air cooling will win. No point in discussing further hypothesis xD
How about changing the earth's atmosphere so that air cooling become more effective?
Except we're pretty close to making silicon based processors as small as we can get them before quantum tunneling starts making everyone have a bad time.
@bitwit Oh my gawd, that is not RAM in the task manager. It is page file, Kyle. Page File!!!!
derp. it even says PF in plain view XD thanks for the catch!
Remember Kyle really doesn't know much about computers other than how they look. Once he get's past Catsup and Mustard cables and RGB he's pretty much lost.
cee128d and that is just sad 😔 let's all hope he learns something about Windows XP from this.
@bitwit Windows XP is lying. At every step
If you nuke everything that's on it and start from scratch, and re-install all the legitimate programs they were using before, while saving their data to an external HD and putting it back, I'll bet everything is back to being just ducky with even this old PC. You really can't "clean up" an old Windows install - it has to be blown away completely.
My Parents are currently doing the same with their 10+ year old computer. Their computer doesn't chug, but that's mostly because I've screwed with it like every other year and had another guy disable some stuff lol. They won't let me either buy or build them another pc though, which is incredibly frustrating after you've spent dozens of hours fixing their garbage.
There's no short... it's just because the power button is constantly pressed. Take the front panel off to relieve the button and I'm sure it'd work fine.
I'm a bit surprised you have _no_ VGA cables. Personally, I have way too many. It is good to have a couple lying around - you never know when you need to fix up an old PC.
For RUclips that computer needs a dedicated GPU to offload video decoding from the CPU. However from what I can see it has neither PCI-e, nor AGP, which limits you to PCI cards - latest was GT 610 - might do the trick...
The GT610 will not offload the codecs RUclips uses so that won't work. Pentium 4's are simply at the end of the line for daily desktop drivers.
YAY CCLEANER! My grandfather built my current gaming pc and he always used that program. I trusted him so I trusted the program. Glad to see other computer enthusiasts agree with him. He died in January 2013. RIP R.D.M
my pc is about ten years old now i am trying to save up the money to build a new one. watched your video about pc part picker really helped me out with coming up with a budget i can work with. so thank you for the video.
I should send him my pavilion running windows ME
ronjonsurf39 I had an XE783 way back lol
Rodolfo Saldana I have a 6736. sometimes the easiest way to run old software is to just use the old hardware lol
Nice guide! At some point though, a fresh install will just be more effective.
Droplight Tech
And faster too
Droplight Tech Fresh copy of Windows XP is difficult. Finding drivers is a nightmare
Never heard of system restoration disks? That you are supposed to do right after setup of your computer?
My family had a PC like that, after a while it became a make shift seat/work bench/tool square. Finally parted it to get it ready for scrap.
I still use a Hp touchsmart laptop from 08. It plays RUclips and browses the internet just fine. I upgraded the Hdd to a SSD . Still pretty impressed with the laptop. Always awesome to see old tech though.
>checking proccesses on grandparent's pc

His grandparents were doing some of that illegal shit
tbh I like these vids more than new pc builds in general
This makes me thankful for my new computer
I know this is an old vid, but I'm jealous of the fact that they still have the 3.5 floppy drive hooked up.
I have a friend who's computer only has a dual core Pentium 3 with 512 MB of ram and an 80gb hard drive. I gave him a bit of hardware to help him and his mom won't even let him install it saying they need a "professional" to do it
That's a single core. Throw it in the trash, it can't even play HD youtube video.
He can't upgrade at all :P does not really have a way to make money
do it without her knowing, be a rebel.
His mom takes his phone away when she is not in the house :p
Fireking95 if she takes it away what is the point of having a phone
Why dont you just do a clean install. Format the hard drive, start completely fresh. I am willing to bet you will see a difference then.
because its running windows XP and ismt worth all that trouble?
Elliot Kaufman A wipe and reload wouldn't be a waste of time, it would actually be faster...
Huh, the system setup files are probably on the harddrive lol, knowing HP.
ok well Windows xp is free to download now; updates and all. Microsoft makes it available on their site.
and drivers are probably the easiest things to get when your dealing with a pre-built system.
always amazing content and please never stop to keep us entertained as every new video brightens up every day 💖.
Damn bringing back memories
Title makes me depressed lol
His username change makes me depressed :-( AWESOMESAUCE!!!
7:54 "tor.exe"??? Your aunt and uncle are secretly on the deep web.
Jack Le probably why they had so many viruses lol
probably viruses using the Tor network for traffic
*dark
MrAlmond tor is used for both.
Most deep web visits are for child porn
Okay tech question, what do I do if the front Panel proprietor are shorted out? I have a dell insperon 560 and it just won’t turn on I’ve tried two different wattages of power supplies, but it still refuses to turn on
I have a old computer it's over 15 years old. Still starts at good Norton's cleans it every time I started. It was a top end when I got it. Has a triple core in it.
WTF ! 18 dollars for a VGA cable , it's hardly worth of 2 $
one time i spent $25 lol
That's Best Buy for you, complete rip-off.
fresh install of windows then try again.
With an SSD.
Michael Lemmon No point, pentium 4 and 1 gig of ram just aren't really usable nowadays
Google takes up 4gb of my fucking ram every time I have two tabs or less 😑
Damn, I thought I was the only one that goes HAM on ancient desktops. Yes, I'd love to see Kyle fully resurrect this Lazarus & then some.
and any graphics card
i was using a mac pro 2006/2007 and it was actually insanely good for being almost a decade and a half old, that's one computer i loved sm.
I know what you mean i had a almost 15 year old pc that couldnt even connect to my wifi properly (went to scrap) and now i have a hp laptop that is soo good also love your content been watching for quite some time now
The video playing back slow is the GPU. Give them some old crap GPU and they can probably watch youtube fine.
I'm certain a gpu even without the newer tech should help it, If your just watching videos then it should run 720p with abit of ease
Or linux, i ended up installing it alongside windows and it could actually run 1080p with my shitty laptop,
On windows its only runs on 720p and it would sometimes stutter even on that.
it's probably a pci motherboard... if he's LUCKY he's got AGP, but how much you wanna bet Kyle has no PCI video cards OR AGP which are probably harder to find than PCI (non express). So yeah, good luck with that.
I don't know about 720p but probably 480 or 360p anything is better than Intel GMA iGPU trust me anything. Built a Celeron 1.7ghz or w/e some 15yrs ago and the thing couldn't even run Half Life 1 on iGP that was home baked without rubbishware running in the background either.
The system wouldn't even have a PCI-E slot
Just put it out of it's misery...
No! place it in a museum deticated to ancient Rome. It will fit right in!
usb killer
freddyy Austin can take care of it XD
lmaooooooooooo
Don't kill it. Add a video card and you have a vintage gaming machine.
Has it got SATA cause you could try installing a SSD Drive that might speed up data access for the internet, is the video output any good for youtube video playback?
Watch this bring back old memories of XP 😭 good old days
*WHEN YOU HAVE ALMOST 10 YEARS OLD COMP AND YOU USE IT EVERYDAY FOR GAMING*
My dad does that with Mac Pro 2008. Runs better than 2012 MacBook Pro.
Piipperi800 you can shove a Titan Xp into a Mac Pro (pre 2013) because there are PCIE slots. Only limiting factor would be the Xeon's old architecture limiting the IPC.
One word. Xubuntu. Great for these older systems and would manage playing youtube.
Thanks for the tip. Actually, I have this crazy old Celeron, from like late 90's lmao. I was honestly thinking of trying to turn it into a Web server or something like that, just for fun.
Would Xubuntu do the trick?
Those PCs must have been popular because I see them everywhere.
My mom used to own this exact model PC back in the early 2000s. Anything with a P4 won't handle modern things well. They didn't age well at all. Unlike my Intel i7 965 Extreme edition. Early generation quad core i7 clocked at 3.2ghz. I got 24GB of ram installed and it's almost 10 years old now but unlike the P4 it still runs really well. :D
Step one for reusing old hardware: Install Linux
+1 ,linux mint mate 64bit uses pretty much as much ram as kyle showed on xp, even though it's a version of the latest update of ubuntu (if I am not mistaken)
Lorenz Vader
The is no using in Linux.
cant use linux on a pentium 4, ive tried
puppylinux.com/ Basically the only thing modern that will run on this.
sorry i like UbuntuMATE been running for ever just works and loved when it comes to driver support and gaming but hay MINT is awesome also but a bit less user friendly in my opinion
I would've suggested installing a graphics card to take the load off the iGPU, but there isn't a AGP or PCIe slots anywhere to be seen, only ancient PCI slots and graphics cards for those haven't been made in ages.
Corristo89 The last PCI graphics card to be made is the GT610.
@@MPdude237 Even that would be somewhat OK for basic tasks. It's really not that difficult to get some performance out of old PCs like this, especially when they support dualcore CPUs.
Fast forward to today, even a PC from 2010 is still very useful today lol, especially the ones with a 6-core Xeon or an i7 920, not only for home use, but also for gaming
Man why did i find this video, i have lile the same looking hp but its like 17 years old, last time i tried it was like 8 years and it was working decent, and thanks to this video i will now spend my next weekend cleaning and fixing it
Install linux on it and see how that goes.
Considering the end user I would say CloudReady OS(opensource free ChromeOS) would be a better fit with at min 2GB(4GB of ram would be ideal) of ram, and an HP cloud ready printer, as it's almost zero maintenance
The max ram it can take is 1GB*. I would recommend Puppy Linux, but even Xubuntu runs well on my P4 based system with 1GB of DDR.

Single 1GB sticks became available after that data sheet was released, prior 2x512MB was the largest available.
N Andrews 512MB*
Yes MB
You should use this case for a sleeper pc.
Wow musicmatch jukebox. That takes me back
I have a PC exactly like this one and it was my brothers first, kinda wanna check it out now that I'm more into pcs
my grandparents are still living it up with windows 98 on a crt!
I use Windows 95 and MS-DOS daily on old 486 and Pentium era PC's
Upgrade the pc.... Let's see it maxed out.
Well, I guess if you give it a new CPU, a new video card, maybe also a newer motherboard and a better PSU as well as a newer harddrive and maybe also invest into a new casing....
Well, I guess at that point you have basically just built a new PC now that I think about it.
Luke Bisschops Dude, unless they're playing games on it, a Q6600 or better, 4-8GB of RAM, and a cheap HTPC graphics card would make this PERFECTLY usable. An upgrade to Windows 7 would be an obvious choice too, as then they still get updates.
It would cost WAY less than building a new system, and work absolutely fine.
Our family PC is an old Gateway from 2011 with an i3-530 and 6 gb of ram. It's practically been turned on continuously since it was hooked and all things considered, it works extremely well. All the parts seem to be working exactly as intended, and rarely if ever gets hung up on basic tasks. Not bad for a computer that was pretty middling even for its time. We may even gift it an SSD to speed up the basics.
Can anyone help me. I got an older hp like this one but it was used for a brinks cash drop system for a store I used to work for and they gave it to me cause they replaced it. I see the windows logo on boot up but then immediately goes to brinks program. No desktop. I cant figure out how to remove brinks program from start up. I got into bios but didnt see any options to get rid of that program. Is there any way I can wipe the computer?
