@@JocelynDaoust You understand this is a DIY sleeper PC, right? not an actual console. Why would this be "useless" and how does it hinder its performance if the airflow can be improved on?
The build would have definitely benefited from a vented air exhaust, as you stated in the beginning. I would've considered swapping the GPU with an FE style cooler that blows the hot air out. It will be tricky for the CPU, though. I haven't seen a consumer vented CPU cooler on the market.

I would've definitely used lower end, older parts, like an i3 10100f paired with a low profile card, as well as cutting out a few holes and adding a mesh over those holes to increase air flow. Overall though, impressive build. Made me want to try something like this with my fat ps3
I'd only do it if it was broken Definitely been tempted by the idea of a pc fit into a wii, was thinking about finding an older NUC board with a 4 core 8 thread and using a graphics card over M.2, preferably one that can be powered off of it. So probably the low profile RX 6400 XT Maybe, just maybe, I can keep the components just within the NUC's included power adapter's wattage limit considering most of those things processors only consume 9 to 15 watts
So, something I would have done was just mod a mini pc. Wow, congrats! The best console ever! I have an Xbox one s these days but I've spent several hours playing with my 360, I still have it and it plays fine. It's like giving a second life to your childhood gaming time with modern games and a modern PC. I've never seen your channel before but now I'm subscribed. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work
Gotta say I normally don't like the pc in an xbox 360 shell because alot of corners i feel get cut but you kept the soul of the 360 alive in yours . Great Job
I think a blower style fan on the CPU cooler would help a lot with temps, since that fan is just blowing air at a blank plate at the moment. The little Noctua fans will be pulling most of the weight there, so glad you included them! Great video, and solid effort on what you've achieved here
I'm interested in a part 2 by the way. Would love to see you actually take your time in the bios undervolting the CPU and focus more on undervolting the GPU. As well as improving the airflow and cleaning up the exterior. This thing puts out some crazy performance for the size of an xbox 360 lmao. I love it.
This really enlightens the childhood in me, I think you should definitely do a follow up video of you polishing up the small things that would be fantastic!
While these Temps are high for sure, high Temps are still within spec. They'll be fine for a long time. It's not as if this will be a main pc with a lot of use. However, upgrading this unit to better the temps will be great content. Great video!
as someone who've had all the xbox's from the original to the one s, i love this video, very nostalgic indeed because the 360 was the one i had played the most on
Very nice build! I would try to fiddle a bit more with the CPU and GPU undervolting and maybe try toswitch the small fans from exhaust to intake (without the shroud, it might not work very well in bringing cold air where it needs to be). Builds like these were really the ideal usecases for blower style GPUs of the past.
Great video. Not many channels make these kinds of unique video builds. I can only imagine the look on my son's face if I gave him an XBOX 360 for his 18th birthday and he finds out it's a modern PC inside. That would be so cool. I wonder if I could find one to buy that someone has already built. A part 2 to this one would be nice.
"Somehow I never got the dreaded red ring of death" That console was manufactured in 2009, by that point, the board revision they were on had entirely fixed the issue, being the most reliable models still to this day(even more so than the slim models which came later).
The reason you never had the RROD all these years is because it was a later improved Xbox 360 model with HDMI. According to the performance specs on the back, it's a Jasper board.
Hey Matt, excellent video, i would recommend that you use an Apu rather than a full blown GPU, that way you save space for airflow and components. Either way the main thin i woul do right now is add airflow on the top of the case, whether you use a discrete or integrated graphics.
Well, look at all those bunched up cables. Not hating on cable management or anything, but I'd think custom lengths would help airflow by there being less occupied space in there.
A part 2 would be awesome. I bet drilling a few holes by the GPU and that server CPU cooler would help a lot. Just need to get better cooling and airflow through the case
Nice build. You can definitely drop 10c or more if you just drill some holes where the CPUs at and make sure the GPU also has ventilation. With your CPU cooler fan oriented that way, it's trying to suck in air thats blocked off so it being 90+ is not surprising. In regards to that EVGA card, the hot air is exhausted through the side fin stacks so a combination of more ventilation and small fans to help direct it out would help alot. An A2000 GPU would probably work well as its less than half the vol of that and takes only 70W or so. Definitely give a look at some of the SFF Yters, they've done some great builds in that size or even smaller. Would definitely be cool to see a part 2 where you polish and shine this up a bit!
For the custom Xbox 360 build, you definitely gotta RGH it and make it the ultimate Xbox 360 that way you can run Homebrew, Linux, Emulators, unreleased and cancelled games, etc. It's a very simple process now with the release of RGH3.
This was super fun, it was a video like this (I think a build in a gamecube) that got me interested in your channel in the first place! Loved to see this! I’d definitely be interested in a part 2! I also think some airflow holes above the cpu cooler and/or wherever the GPU is intaking air would be worth the sacrifice in aesthetics, but really this is just so cool!
The fact that, not only you mention the specs in the description of the video but you also placed the proper link for them. You are a good human, god bless
Very cool! This is an inspiring project :) As far as thermals go, there are a few things I would try. First would be to use a blower style GPU, so that most of the heat generated is dumped straight outside of the case instead of the current GPU which dumps its heat inside the case. Then I think creating as much natural heat dispersion as possible would be a good shout. Adding mesh to the bottom of the case, or creating little gaps in inconspicuous places. Enough of those will add up to some decent ventilation. I noticed that there is also a fair bit of meat left between the factory ventilation holes, so drilling each one out to a wider diameter will take away a decent amount of surface area of the mesh, while still looking stock. I think trying to squeeze another 40mm fan into there could also work if you got some low profile RAM. Using at least one of the fans as an intake might be worth a shot too. If you weren't too picky about keeping it looking totally stock you could add some feet to the bottom to give a nice airflow gap. You could even incorporate some thin width fans underneath to force a good amount of air into the case. Either way, awesome build! ^_^
Hi, great idea and very unique project. IMHO you should make many small holes just above the CPU fan (and if possible above the GPU fans). This will help with the temps and probably keep the OEM look as the Xbox already has small holes in other parts of its chassis. However, my experience with the Ryzen 5 5600x is that, whilst it is a low tdp cpu, it 100% needs a very good cooler, otherwise it gets easily to 90 degrees celcius under load. The stock AMD cooler cannot provide adequate cooling to this CPU.
Yeah was gonna say I did the same thing to a digital Dec PC, and also ran into 90 degrees C temps, on both a Ryzen 5 3600 and Ryzen 7 5800u. Custom fitting a 60mm 10000 RPM server fan inside and control with a potentiometer (believe me full speed sounds like a got dang jet engine) as well as using a low profile cooler pretty much made things more manageable. EDIT: and yes indeed the wraith stock cooler didn't help one iota, most likely due to the hat thing over the fan as well as the barely there clearance
Wow, listening to someone talk about their "Childhood" Xbox 360 really hits home. I was very much an old adult when these things were new and it doesn't really seem that long ago either.
Really great job so far man love what you are doing! I remember these 360s had after market cooling stands, I know you're not trying to add more bulk but maybe even seeing how those cooling methods functioned could give you some ideas.
Highschool? Damn, that makes me feel old. I was getting my master's and paying my first mortage when xbox 360 announced. I got into PC gaming back in 1993, back when windows 3.1 was around. I remember I went into grass cutting for the neighbors just to afford a PC so I could play DOOM. Setting up PC back then was more hands on. A lot of things we take for granted didn't exists then and most of them were plug and pray as we used to call it. I had scribbles of codes and DOS commands as well lol.
This build is so cool! I love the small sleeper build. Thank you for sharing with us! Id love a part two with better cooling and maybe a cleaner IO setup.
Man you didn't get a 360 until 2009, feelsbadman. I had one in 2005. Clocked THOUSANNNNNNDS of hours on so many games, COD4, GTA IV, World at War, MW2, RDR, Black Ops & so many more!
Pretty cool, but I thought it was going to be using the original hardware hacked. I would definitely be up for someone trying to turn that into a PC too.
Its not useless at all. It's pretty cool to be able to create a so compact pc. At this point if you want to LAN with your friends you can take your XBOX with you without any space problem
Wow this is actually a great idea! Why didnt I think of it for my sleeper build. Ive seen some Xbox 360's go for $5-$10 at pawnshops. No burglar would jack this. Edit: just got a idea. Instead of soldering stuff ill just bolt the console down to a desk with drewer and have the guts hang out in there with holes cut out for breaking.
This was one of my projects back in 2011 when the first APUs from AMD arrived. A X360 gaming PC without a dedicated GPU, but it was so powerful that even Battlefield 3 runs at very high settings. Good old times
Seeing the Xbox360 being teared down is amazing but when i saw the final build at the start of the video you should definitely add the xbox part led for the button lighting up if not added already (i just read the comments yes from a year ago)
The fact you had a 360 as a child makes me feel old... I was already an Adult when the 360 came out. You both Went to Middle school, (Which I didn't because we had K-7 then 8-10 as Jr High and 11-12 as High) and went to Middle school 7 years after I graduated... This video is making me feel OLD
whats crazy is i have a Dell Inspiron One 2020, which is a all in one pc, and i was wanting to build a custom "gaming" pc, but didnt know where to start. This video helped alot, if all that could fit in a old xbox 360 then it can easily fit in my pc. the only issue i was having was figuring out the psu and i had no idea something like the one in this video existed, so thank you lol
brought back memories, when i was a kid a friend gave me his old MW2 edition 360 with a dead disc drie, $30 for a disk drive had me my first xbox 360 for a good year
A piece of advice for soldering, use flux! I prefer liquid flux, some prefer paste/gel type, but just try to use a small amount any time you will be touching anything with solder. It makes the bond much easier and stronger
Great case mod! I love how clean your content is. I did click in originally thinking that you somehow repurposed the 360 motherboard into a Windows machine though... I'd love to see that!
that's the exact build to do a lot of experimenting and document the improvements! 3d printed air ducks that direct the air more intentionally, maybe liquid metal on both CPU and GPU, more aggressive undervolting/fan curves (I've had a lot of luck with undervolting in laptops, also setting profiles with throttlestop gives you a ton of customization, if you want the raw performance or prefer a quite system that still pushes all the frames it can)
I would love a Part 2 please 😍 Maybe trying also shorter cable so that there is more Space for the Airflow. Also maybe trying Steam OS instead of Windows and Install DeckyLoader for TDP Limit to reduce the power for low class games and see how that performance and if it's still getting loud or more quiet.
this build is sooo nice I've searched for a lot of gaming pcs in old xbox 360 case and yours is the best so far and am impatiently waiting for part 2 ❤
I bought a used 120GB PS3 a while back for $50. When I opened it up to clean it I was shocked to see it was absolutely spotless inside. No dust whatsoever. Still have it to this day. One day I'll upgrade to a new console, maybe when the PS6 comes out?? PC gaming is better in every way anyway.

Really great job so far man love what you are doing! I remember these 360s had after market cooling stands, I know you're not trying to add more bulk but maybe even seeing how those cooling methods functioned could give you some ideas.
oh man just the disassembly brings me lots of memories from my first little business repairing and modifying consoles. Lots of fun.
Those 2009-2010 arcade models with the white door were pretty reliable. Got the same one for Christmas and had it for years
I've never seen a 360 teardown before. It being just a plain aluminum rectangle underneath all those plastic curves is really peak 2000's energy...
The CPU in Fortnite, Horizon and Cyberpunk:
"I'm tired boss" 🥵
Such a cool idea. I respect the lengths you went through to get it to work, including cutting and soldering. Impressive!
This build is so cool! I love the small sleeper build. Thank you for sharing with us! Id love a part two with better cooling and maybe a cleaner IO setup.
i love the aesthetic of the 360, my favorite console, congrats my friend!
This video makes me feel old. Middle school in 2009... When I was in middle school, the PS1 was launched.
Man you didn't get a 360 until 2009, feelsbadman. I had one in 2005. Clocked THOUSANNNNNNDS of hours on so many games, COD4, GTA IV, World at War, MW2, RDR, Black Ops & so many more!
Bro lived in a clean room growing up, being used from 2009 that's so damn clean!
This is so cool, I'd love to see this done on the OG Xbox, that extra space would def help
Pretty cool, but I thought it was going to be using the original hardware hacked. I would definitely be up for someone trying to turn that into a PC too.
"It runs very hot and is loud" - capturing the essence of the original 360 right there.
WHAT A MAD KENT LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
“It runs hot, it’s loud”
Me: it’s perfect.
That's really cool. You should do it again, but with the original xbox one case for more space to fix the cooling issue. Nice job
The Custom Xbox build sounds awesome.
I am beyond intereseted in this please make another video of you fixing things up and making it even better :D
Seeing the Xbox360 being teared down is amazing but when i saw the final build at the start of the video you should definitely add the xbox part led for the button lighting up if not added already
(i just read the comments yes from a year ago)
The fact you had a 360 as a child makes me feel old... I was already an Adult when the 360 came out.
You both Went to Middle school, (Which I didn't because we had K-7 then 8-10 as Jr High and 11-12 as High) and went to Middle school 7 years after I graduated...
This video is making me feel OLD
Dude this seems like something I would like to try…earned a sub man great vid
I still have my old Xbox 360 that I haven't used since the late 2000s, so seeing this is giving me a few ideas for modding mine!!!
whats crazy is i have a Dell Inspiron One 2020, which is a all in one pc, and i was wanting to build a custom "gaming" pc, but didnt know where to start. This video helped alot, if all that could fit in a old xbox 360 then it can easily fit in my pc. the only issue i was having was figuring out the psu and i had no idea something like the one in this video existed, so thank you lol
Lol, putting a PC in a console known for overheating. You're a mad man.
Still, it looks amazing. You did an amazing job.
18:39 you did a banged up job on that side LMAO
brought back memories, when i was a kid a friend gave me his old MW2 edition 360 with a dead disc drie, $30 for a disk drive had me my first xbox 360 for a good year
A piece of advice for soldering, use flux!
3d printed air ducks that direct the air more intentionally, maybe liquid metal on both CPU and GPU, more aggressive undervolting/fan curves (I've had a lot of luck with undervolting in laptops, also setting profiles with throttlestop gives you a ton of customization, if you want the raw performance or prefer a quite system that still pushes all the frames it can)
I LITERALLY THOUGHT OF THIS IDEA BEFORE I FOUND THIS XD
I would love a Part 2 please 😍
Maybe trying also shorter cable so that there is more Space for the Airflow.
Also maybe trying Steam OS instead of Windows and Install DeckyLoader for TDP Limit to reduce the power for low class games and see how that performance and if it's still getting loud or more quiet.
Great video. 13:38 The ON/OFF button and RF Module Panel uses 3 screws not 2.
Yo this was dope! I was shocked seeing how this was possible. Crazy how it works, even if the fps is low.
holycow thats cool. you can wire the old rf to usb! what a FANTASTIC re-use!!!
Clearly a great idea to build a PC ! Hail from France and keep up the good work
runs hot and runs loud, just like a og 360. how fitting
Would have a LOT of room to build a gaming PC with a raspberry pie in there
this build is sooo nice I've searched for a lot of gaming pcs in old xbox 360 case and yours is the best so far and am impatiently waiting for part 2 ❤
Playing in the sand and building a sand castle is on the same level of productivity, but much less expensive.
0:04 “While this might look like an old beat up Xbox 360”
Me: that is literally the cleanest Xbox 360 fat model I’ve ever seen
Wow, apart from the temps, it's a wonderful project and I hope you get to optimize it! Congratulations. Keep it up! You are awesome!!!
This is a really cool idea! I will turn mine into a case for a mini PC running Steam OS ;)
Holy cow! This cable management and temps!
I think it's awesome and would love to see more if you're interested. A mini PC in an 80's Nintendo shell would be awesome.
Good to know I'm not the only one with a still working 360
I bought a used 120GB PS3 a while back for $50. When I opened it up to clean it I was shocked to see it was absolutely spotless inside. No dust whatsoever. Still have it to this day. One day I'll upgrade to a new console, maybe when the PS6 comes out?? PC gaming is better in every way anyway.
great tip> use soldering tinning flux you will be able to solder much faster, and solder wick will do ya justice in removing things in the future!
We need so many more builds like this
