Another absolute triumph, and one of the most aesthetically pleasing and well-finished projects yet. I've often thought - pretty much any of your designs could be developed into an eminently saleable commercial product, and make you millions. Have you not ever contemplated this, or is it just the fun of producing new designs that keeps you going?
Yes and no, there are reason for the bulky larger design of the PS5, manufacturing cost for one but also dust / heat dissipation. This is a nice One of Kind project though I give you that!
Its a brilliant idea, not only the fact that its 2 times smaller and has better screen, but the fact that you can bring it to something like friends house without problems is so good that this device deserves to be sold.
It seriously blows my mind how none of these guys have actually considered you for a design role yet. You have a lot of fresh ideas and this one has to be one of the best I've watched thus far. Keep at it, this is really entertaining to watch and I hope fulfilling to complete on your end. Great stuff
There's a big difference in designing something for one time production and for personal use than mass manufacturing a product that has to meet hundreds of universal specifications and be idiot proof, most of what's preventing Sony and other big tech companies from making truely innovative changes to their products is not the technical know how but the logistics and beaurocracy. I'm not saying DIY perks won't be an asset, he's clearly a genius, but it's not like he can just show this design in the Sony boardroom and go straight to production
@@SgtNicholasAngle Totally agree with you. Manufacturing is a totally different ball game. That being said I think DIY perks would be an extremely valuable engineer for a console manufacturer on the R&D side of things.
@@SgtNicholasAngleyeah we all get that part But he clearly shows that even if we can’t get a ps5 tablet we can get a decently sized ps5, at least as small as a ps4 slim while maintaining good cooling sustemy
I think one thing you can improve with this build is adding some mesh over the fans to protect them from any foreign objects as well as dust buildup. This is an absolutely sick build!
I would DEFINITELY buy a product like this. As someone who prefers console gaming over handheld but dont always have the run of the tv, being able to just set this up in any room at any point with just a plug socket needed is awesome. The number of times I've had to set up my ps5 on a portable monitor balanced on the sofa arm is ridiculous 🤣
I think this needs to be a kit, except I want the ports to be accessible from the outside somehow. So that the console can be completely portable like you presented, but also able to be used as a normal console as well. Awesome build.
A lot of people will mainly focus on the finish product but we really cant overlook all the crazy amount of learning, research, planning, trial and error, timing and creativity he puts into each project. Like if these were that easy, so many companies would be doing it already yet they haven't. Seeing the timing between videos just shows the amount of time and effort placed into each project too. DIY Perks is hands down one of my top channels to watch ever since RUclips became a thing and I got my first computer. Kudos to you, sir. You really are a genius in your craft and your creativity and the way you adapt into learning new tech and new ways to build with new materials is extremely impressive.
Well i and my big bro made one with his guidelines except we some components and we had to sacrifice our ps 5. Really thank u man. Well we spent a lot of money buh it was worth it. Matt u have to work at playstation for us man
I can't get over how ingenious the heating solution is! Taking the monster of a heatsink the stock ps5 had and shrinking it down to a tablet size with that strange spiderweb of heatsinks is bonkers, not to mention how insanely quiet it ends up being!
Wow, just WOW! You really should consider to do a tutorial with all parts needed, so other people can build this on their own if they want. That would be an awesome thing!
Sony needs to hire him to design the PS6. This guy is seriously talented man. His knowledge on so many different subjects makes him a jack of all trades 👏
I was just thinking. DIY perks is a master consumer engineer. Are his talents wasted by making prototypes for entertainment? Is it just a statement of the world (and an indictment of society) that more money (and fulfilment) can be made by making products that ultimately aren't mass produced? I guess it's the fault of companies not paying enough for this kind of talent.
"Design the PS6" I'm sorry but he's taking existing components and reorganizing them in to different form factors. Sony have designed the PS5 to be as powerful and efficient as the price point as possible. Sure, just stick an OLED laptop display on top, go with a custom power supply, those clearly didn't make the thing at least 2 grand.
@@parodigameru145 for sure Cost optimising is a huge, important part of making a product. And one that doesn't *really* feature in these video. That's not a criticism either, for the purposes of entertainment it is wholly unnecessary
@@IsleyNumber1 specifically it has to be designed for mass production. An aluminum shell is more cost effective for a 1 off build, but Sony needs to design these for injection molded components made from plastic that are mass produced with injection molds made to produce thousands of pieces.
10:02 I know that the point of the project was to make a tablet, but you also just made a smaller console in general. Not as small as the first PS5 slim that you made, but it has all of the cooling built-in. That alone makes this build fantastic.
It’s definitely an insane idea and build, I actually think this was such a good project and the idea of a portable console with those graphics is insane
@@sabrogaming4602 a dumb question here cuz i don't know shit about anything, but is it truly portable if it needs to be plugged into that cable? Because that cable runs to an outlet right? So this "portable" tablet has to be played inside connected to a power source, so you just have a smaller ps5 with no tv that cant go outside. Or am i missing something?
@@ihavenonamestilldonthaveon8970 ehhh yeah essentially that’s the case, but portable wise, super easy to carry around and if yknow you wanted to play this on the road (idk why) you could probably use a power outlet in a lot of cars these days

The form factor you've made even without the screen is amazing! Having a PS5 in such a small form factor would be such a nice upgrade over what it is today.
This is unreal, are you a wizard? I'm so glad you popped up on my feed. I've been glued to this entire video. Look forward to your future projects. And possibly some tutorials???
at this point I'm wondering how much he would consider selling this creation as a custom build with the screen and resources it cost, I'd place about $800-$1000 USD including the screen and handwork went into it
I like how it looks like you also took some design cues from earlier Playstations - I was minded particularly of the PS2, with the scored edging and grilles. What an amazing project - Sony designers could learn a lot from this
You don't even calculate the cost to performance ratio and the fact that consoles are already sold at a loss... Adding more stuff like liquid cooling etc will just drive the price higher and people will cry again because of that.
@@DittyBitty69 do you know even how many people work on the consoles?? and how do you even know what all their duties are in the corporation?? Do you have their schedule? You assume too much and know little.
Well, in general, if you are an engineer for the first time, you have copper pieces, and it will not be difficult, but creating from scratch is complicated, so a full team of engineers is necessary.
@@Xenaman Noone said actual console manufacturers should put expensive and unreliable liquid cooling in their systems. There isn't even any liquid cooling in this build. Also you're not considering the customer lifetime value when you factor in game sales and PS+ subscriptions. Man, I'd buy this in a heartbeat! I love the design and how you went about making this. What is your background, and how did you acquire your skills? I just discovered your channel right now!
everything about this is absolutely stunning!! the only thing i would change, being it's supposed to be portable, is have a screen cover that protects it during transport but then doubles as the kickstand when opened!
It says a lot about the console market currently that some youtuber can produce a better product at home than a billion dollar company with large scale production facilities and hundreds of engineers
A full PS5 in a PS2 kinda retro looking case with built in speakers and screen. Now that's the dream. Can't wait to see the next project, keep it up man!
The amount of knowledge this man has is insane. The skills, the craftmanship, the creativity ; the quality of the video, the sound, everything is pure perfection.
Till you actually go do the work in figuring out how to do this yourself, look at the price of a ps5 and all the bits you need to make this happen. Still cheaper to buy a laptop. And If I had to decide between a gaming console and a gaming laptop, guess which one wins in the end. IF sony does that, rule of thumb would to do this at either the same price or marginally more expensive, otherwise, wtf would you waste money on this if you can get something far superior
@Shikkai123 people have been asking this since the dawn of the console wars. Why console when you can PC, often for cheaper? The answer is cleaning out the fridge. What shall I do on my computer today? Shall I game, watch, research, develop, write, read, draw, sculpt? Hundreds of choices, and sometimes you just don't want to make the choice. You're staring at a fridge full of food, and there's "nothing to eat" The console, on the other hand, is a half empty fridge with just enough ingredients to make your favourite sandwich. What shall I do on my console today? I don't feel like gaming, so maybe I'll watch something instead. You're getting the sandwich or just making a cuppa with the milk, no extra distractions, you either want it or you don't. You're not convincing yourself to or away from whatever imaginary meal you might concoct, you can see plain as day. Today it is ham sandwich or shopping. I'm here to play some games or I'm doing something else. It's just compartmentalising. I quite enjoy modding, but I also quite enjoy being prevented from modding so I don't lose 6 hours to the opening cutscene. Less can be more
I can tell you like someone like myself, that serve in the military, it saves a lot of headaches, from where do I get a screen to where do I put it cause it so big, life changing.
The #1 thing I love most about this, isn't the shrink, or even the integrated screen... it's the insanely simple process of cleaning the dust out of it. Sony would never take note of this, because they make too much money from dirty cooling fins... but I'm seriously thinking of modding mine.
@@driverjamescopeland not exactly sure why you're yapping this much. sony has an official teardown guide and cleaning the fans is incredibly easy. literally remove the side plates and 4 screws. easier than most laptops. and also the console has these small dust catchers, where you can stick in a decently powered vacuum to suck up all the dust

@@motivationpouretudier2460 well the laptop would be quite a bit thinner and lighter though. And you can use a pad with fans in it to better cool the laptop, making it more quiet. And his PS5 doesn't have a battery at all.
I'd add a foldable screen protector over the top that's attached via hinges that can act as the stand, so it doesn't get scratched up during transport. I love the work you put into these projects and always look forward to your next video.
Love how you show that it's a matter of taking one step at a time, making this both easy to follow, and actually doable for others
As a truck driver, I will buy this. This is really useful for moments like where my truck is in the shop and I don’t have my TV , I’ll still be able to play my game rental truck or wherever I want.
especially since its 12V, really surprised to hear that haha.

You can see his joy through the screen 😂
His smile almost disappeared when he turned it on for a while 😅
I appreciate how you dont brag how much work you put in designing and researching. Very modest. You make it look easy!
Of course it looks easy when he doesnt show all the research and probably more failed attempts.

Ohh my Gosh,
So nerve wracking
Glad it worked
Another absolute triumph, and one of the most aesthetically pleasing and well-finished projects yet. I've often thought - pretty much any of your designs could be developed into an eminently saleable commercial product, and make you millions. Have you not ever contemplated this, or is it just the fun of producing new designs that keeps you going?
Yes and no, there are reason for the bulky larger design of the PS5, manufacturing cost for one but also dust / heat dissipation. This is a nice One of Kind project though I give you that!
1000% Incredible work!!
I have just discovered your channel. You are amazing. Please keep posting more projects.
Great stuff
With nearly 5m subscribers and 2.5+ views on this already, he probably makes more money than even a lead designer would!
Plus something like this would be easily over $1000
@@SgtNicholasAngle Totally agree with you. Manufacturing is a totally different ball game. That being said I think DIY perks would be an extremely valuable engineer for a console manufacturer on the R&D side of things.
@@SgtNicholasAngleyeah we all get that part
But he clearly shows that even if we can’t get a ps5 tablet we can get a decently sized ps5, at least as small as a ps4 slim while maintaining good cooling sustemy
I think one thing you can improve with this build is adding some mesh over the fans to protect them from any foreign objects as well as dust buildup.
This is an absolutely sick build!
Also add a handle probably.
This 100% came to say the same.
was thinking the same! mesh, filter or fan grills perhaps then its perfect!
I hate to be the one to tell you this but, anything that will let those fans breathe will let dust through just the same.
@@savage6394 well yeah but something to protect fingers lol

More than 8 years I've been watching to your videos, and you still impress me and getting improvement, we all love your contents and get well soon. 🎉

I gotta say, this is one of the coolest RUclips videos I’ve ever seen. Absolutely incredible.
I would suggest, if possible to add a Hdmi port to give an option to connect to TV as well. I recently came across your videos and I love your work.
I think this needs to be a kit, except I want the ports to be accessible from the outside somehow. So that the console can be completely portable like you presented, but also able to be used as a normal console as well. Awesome build.
Sony legal team would like to know your location
Man, this is totally insane! You're sooo smart, and the project turned out to be a an incredible thing. Thanks for sharing it with us!
You really are a genius in your craft and your creativity and the way you adapt into learning new tech and new ways to build with new materials is extremely impressive.
also the prices of the components. the fancy fans and casing would not be feasible to mass produce. I think it is a good concept tho

It's just insane how creative person you are. This is next level. Incredible achievement.
I love it
I can't stop looking at your the PS5 Tablet Edition
Wow, just WOW! You really should consider to do a tutorial with all parts needed, so other people can build this on their own if they want. That would be an awesome thing!
Please. Please. Please. And set up links to get the correct parts as well. You should create a website that has everything included.
honestly, if you need a tutorial, you probably shouldn't be doing this. Cause all of the important steps were shown and explained
Sony needs to hire this guy this right here would sell like crazy im sure with sonny team they can get slimmer and more polished
"Design the PS6"
I'm sorry but he's taking existing components and reorganizing them in to different form factors.
Sony have designed the PS5 to be as powerful and efficient as the price point as possible.
Sure, just stick an OLED laptop display on top, go with a custom power supply, those clearly didn't make the thing at least 2 grand.
@@parodigameru145 for sure
Cost optimising is a huge, important part of making a product.
If he can make all that with his personal resources, I can't imagine what he could achieve with the resources of a company like Sony
Dang man! Awesome work! You’re incredibly talented. Thanks for showing us what’s possible

TBH I'd rather buy this PS5 Tablet than a normal PS5.
Just add an HDMI In/Output and you have the best console imaginable!
Yes. Was thinking the same, just add the ability to hook it up to a larger screen also and this is a winner!
It may be possible with an HDMI Splitter ? The screen itself may be connected to the motherboard HDMI port sooo yeah
You forgot the combo-hdmi and displayport-port.
And an Ethernet port
And a dvd drive too should be added
This build is so cool! I think he did a great job on the custom 3d printed parts - they add to the build so much. Makes it look super clean

This really looks like a product you can just buy from Sony.
Sir. DIY perks you are a very good youtuber I like all of these videos you made.
The form factor you've made even without the screen is amazing! Having a PS5 in such a small form factor would be such a nice upgrade over what it is today.

This is a seriously incredible feat of engineering, truly worth more notice and effort to create
at this point I'm wondering how much he would consider selling this creation as a custom build with the screen and resources it cost, I'd place about $800-$1000 USD including the screen and handwork went into it
@dontgetbannedlol yeah that 4k oLed monitor is almost 500 alone. 1000 is pretty accurate.
@@dont_getbanned you're seriously underestimating the price of "handwork". This would be way more than 1k

What an amazing project - Sony designers could learn a lot from this
The grin on his face while turning on the system though, pure joy.
This is super impressive. Especially the fact that it would probably take a team of engineers to build a prototype like this. Just nuts.
You don't even calculate the cost to performance ratio and the fact that consoles are already sold at a loss... Adding more stuff like liquid cooling etc will just drive the price higher and people will cry again because of that.
@@Xenamanits hard to make a profit
Who cares if they sell the consoles at a loss its just the price of capturing market share.

Ah yes the pc gamer farting about why you wouldn't want this to be your " only " gaming device.@@Shikkai123
You're staring at a fridge full of food, and there's "nothing to eat"
The console, on the other hand, is a half empty fridge with just enough ingredients to make your favourite sandwich.
Less can be more
@@Shikkai123things sold in bulk to companies are usually a lot cheaper than the commercial ones
@Nbasuavay - not as easy as it SHOULD be.
16:03 "...brings a lot of fun to the table." I see what you did there. 😀
