- In this video I show you guys how to upgrade an old office pc for gaming. I talk about what kind of parts you should upgrade in an older system and how to change out each part. This in my opinion is the best way to put together a cheap gaming pc.

Tech By Matt: I did my own system kinda like this but hunted the Australian gumtree site for my local 2nd hand gear, got a z77 & 3770k, new 120gb ssd, added a 1060 6gb i got on special & a new 80+ gold psu, (also got win7u coz I use&hate win10), also slowly worked up to 32gb ram for no real reason & installed it into a custom modded ikea display cabinet with 8x 200mm fans
Works mint for 1440 & 1080p, sadly 4k is horrid.

I worked on many of these and love how easy they are to upgrade. Little bit of ram, an SSD with Windows 10, Quadro P400 and there you go, better than new.
pro tip just leave the SSD hanging in the tray, it's not a moving part, it'll be fine.

Should I buy a cheap pc just for now and upgrade ?
Got this PC from work. Teach me, Matt!
Also there is DVD+R DL writing-reading device,to unplug, and connect.Of course who uses it nowadays. But my old Dell has it.
This is how I got into building my own PCs.
True story. I was using an optiplex 7010 with an i5-3570, 16gb ram, RX480 8GB. BF1 @ 1080 on ultra getting 60fps.
Just put some RGB in mine gotta say was pleasantly surprised the grey panel in the front really illuminates well
I did this it came out good mine came with a i5 and added more ram and a good grafix card
About a year ago I picked up a Optiplex 3010 for $12 at Savers. It has a i5-3470 and 8gb of ram, i added in a gtx 1050ti and it runs amazing. Great value for under $200
Fantastic video! You should seriously benchmark this PC!
This is perfect since i have literally the same pc but with a graphics card.
Hey, I just bought a Dell optipex 990 for 80$ and a rx 580 for 120$, exited to build it next week
Glad I found your video. I was wondering if I would be able to use my existing pc, and just add extra storage, a new case, and the rgb cooling fans.. I have a windows 11 hp 4gb desktop pc I bought from WalMart,(the one with the keyboard, mouse, and speakers- the slim one) It was 200 and something, and I got a 27 inch Roku monitor to go with it which was a hundred and something, so my pc in total came out to 400 and something or almost 400 with taxes. I wanted at least a terabyte of storage at the time, but it was out of my price range, and I really wanted a separate monitor. I was using an all in one pc with a terabyte of storage. I'm hoping if I do all this it will be simple, and wont have to reinstall windows,etc.. I figured I would just use all the parts off this pc, except order more RAM, a new case, and the rgb fans..It's a 64 bit operating system, Has Intel Celeron J4250 CPU , something is 2.00 GHz. I do everything on this pc. I ordered a new keyboard and mouse from TEMU. I have been checking out their pc stuff, but some stuff has been discontinued which sucked butt. I'm all about the rgb stuff now. I have lights going around my desk, my keyboard is sitting on something that lights up, my headphones light up, my headphone holder lights up.. I can't wait to explore and learn about converting my pc..
what our mom thinks when we fix the internet
Just built one
Bought an optiplex with a 3770 and 8gbs for 100 bucks.
New thermaltake psu 500w for 45

Total 275, can't beat it for the price.
Hey Matt, I am new to PC gaming and I really appreciate this video! I was wondering what some of the best budget graphics cards are since everything seems super expensive right now. Thanks so much for your tips in this video!
Hello I would say the best budget graphics card are
ZOTAC GeForce GT 710 2GB ,DELL 0N3PJ Nvidia GeForce GT545 1GB, ZOTAC GeForce GT 730, Gigabyte Geforce GTX 1050 2GB! And you can find all these graphics card on Amazon to choose from. (:

Whats the point in buying a system and then upgrading/removing a lot of parts from it? Just get a really cheap dell OEM motherboard, cheap case, and then buy everything else
Zereko many times the whole computer is cheaper than the parts as a separate. I've got refurb 990 optiplex with i5 2400 for $80
Oh cool, where did you get it from?
Zereko cheaper.
Zereko eBay, there are lots of refurbishers who sell these office machines all the time
Typically the only parts you would remove and upgrade are the gpu and psu. The goal is to buy a cheap pc with a good cpu, which also has a good amount of ram, like 8gb. Then from there, all you need to do is stick a gtx 750 ti or 1050 ti in it as well as a better psu and you have a budget gaming pc
Lol I found so many hard drives so I have tons in it lol. I bought a good graphics card bout $1,000 and upgraded the fans to leds plus better builds inside.
When you star adding all this up you can make a better a newer pc for just a little more

You need to say that some OEM motherboards have a different PSU connector and might need an adaptor for another to work on it, plus some systems will not support 16gb of ram like mine.
On the GPU side of things some cards like the gtx 1050 don't need a seperate PSU connection and draw the power from the board l, as long as the OEM unit matches the requirements of the GPU money can be saved for a more modern better supported gpu.
Where do you plug in all the wires from the power supply I can't see where to put them

I just bought dell optiplex 990 for $110 on Offer Up. It had 4gb ram and a 2600 non k too. It transferred my 600 watt power supply, added 4gb more of ram(total of 8gb ddr3),and my gt 1030 from my old build. This a great medium-high setting build now. I had an i5 650 before....
John Lomeli The i7 2600 is being severely bottlenecked. It handles 1070s.
John Lomeli you got to put in the account that you spent on the gt 1030 and the PSU + the extra 4gb of ram...which might be around 200-220 lol
Protip: Don’t exceed the manufacturer recommended maximum for RAM and make sure to use the right socket type for your CPU
How about just maximum
@@edwardmacnab354 max at your own risk but it should handle it
so.. make sure components are compatible?
Some newer Intel CPU holders/sockets (that's where the CPU rest on the MB) on the motherboard do not have a readily visible alignment mark. There are notches on each side of the Intel CPU and if you look carefully you will see the corresponding protrusions on the Intel CPU holder/socket. Align the Intel CPU notches with the socket. For RAM - if you are adding to what you already have, try to get the same latency. It will look something like this for example: 16-16-16-39. It may be important in some instances. Just today I had an incompatibility issue with some RAM and once I removed the add-on RAM my system again worked fine. _Most RAM will work in unison with other RAM,_ but sometimes it will not. For you newbies, I hope this helps? Praise The Lord and Godspeed to you all - Hebrews 10:35!!
Tony C.
Thanks for this man
Ram of differing latency will always train to the lower spec or the higher latency/lower speed RAM's specs. Mixing ram is generally a bad idea unless it's just mixing brand names that doesn't seem to matter much but differing speeds and latency matters quite a lot.
It's been my experience that if you have low density and high density modules in the same machine it will cause issues, and the same goes for using double sided with single sided modules. I just want to throw it out there because I know from experience that these Dell Optiplex 790 and 990 computers won't post with DDR3-1066 (PC3-8500) or 8GB DIMM Modules. They also only work with unbuffered DDR3-1333 or 1600. They won't work with Registered, ECC, or Buffered memory. They sometimes also won't work with "gaming" memory that requires more than 1.5 volts. Gaming memory is not going to be of any benefit anyway in these systems as they offer no ability for overclocking.
The mate
It’s sad because I clicked the video and this is the exact computer I have 😂😭 I get 25fps on Fortnite. That’s why I’m here

Ok make sure to clean it out for dust
Bro were u buy gtx 1060 for 70$
How much FPS do you get on games
Auden he gets 160fps
You might also want to change the thermal paste
I've been planning buy an i7 2600 optiplex and upgrade with a better psu in a new case with a gtx 1070.
PaneledPear6555 will that even work
PaneledPear6555 Tbh if you have a 1070 you should a better system like a ryzen system.
On Soul Not necessarily. If you do 60 fps on higher resolutions then the 1070 is the component creating a bottleneck. While the 2600 will go strong up to around 100-120 fps at 1080p ultra.
I already did this but on eBay. Got a Dell Optiplex 9010 SFF desktop. Upgraded the RAM, HDD and GPU. This is the specs now:
3.40 GHz i5-3570
12 GB DDR3
GTX 1050 Ti LP
1 TB HDD 7200 RPM
Windows 10 Pro
And why did you get a small form factor p? Have you even tested how it performs? Sff pcs suck cause to play at lest 1080p you need a small and low powered gpu and those sick and cost more
Dark Angel Rafael nice
used sff are pretty cheap for their cpu and psu, hdd . really just need a gpu for a decent gaming pc
Ran Ng got mine for $99. With the CPU inside he could've charged me much higher as others desktops with older CPUs cost about more than $100.
Sean Timothy G. Tanega I get very good performance. I'm just limited with upgrades.
Step 1. Break into someones house...
Honestly if you’re replacing all those parts then just build your own pc, the only upgrade that is really reasonable is the ram and your gpu.(most optiplexes ship with i5’s now)
I agree, if you're changing more than GPU and PSU then just build a new one
All I would do is ssd and fans and buy it with already 4 cores and and 8gigs of rams
Usually Dell uses custom cases. It's hard to modify a Dell because nothing really fits into the case. I suppose it would be best just taking the components out and putting them into another case.
you can't 'cos sometimes OEM mobos also have custom design and you simply can't fit them into any other case.

I got a asus h55 board, xeon x3470 and 8gb of ddr3 ram for 100ish dollars.
I've since then invested into a better cooler (212 evo) and got my xeon to 4.0 Ghz, and it performs almost like a I7-3770 at stock.
The x3470@4.0Ghz won't bottleneck a 6gb 1060 and also it will bottleneck a 1070 by only 10% which is great, i find RX580 8gb match for it.
Just when picking xeons, try getting the ones that are either rebranded consumer chips or the ones with higher clock speeds and lower core count, something like 4c/8t is just fine for gaming and it's probably going to perform better than 8c/16t that would excel in workstation loads like video editing and animation/3d modelling etc etc

2 cores😬 4 cores is best idea
When you put back that junk CPU fan I stopped watching because it’s not upgrade anymore. Also you mentioned DDR3 chipper than DDR4 , for that old motherboard DDR4 not even an option to even mention DDR4 it’s not compatible LOL 😂
He meant that ddr3 is cheaper for OLDER SYSTEMS and not newer systems boomer
Hello sir please name the Dell machine with sys specs ??
I'm currently debating on what to upgrade first on my computer. I have an AMD A4-6300B processor with dedicated graphics, 8gb of ddr3 ram, 240w psu, and 1tb of HDD. The most powerful processor I can put for the socket is a10-6800k. Should I get that or a EVGA NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti SC 2GB GDDR5 PCI-e?
How long can we keep him at 69k subs for?
I have a dell optiplex 5080 with a 10th gen i7 16gb of ram and 1tb hdd with a 256 nvme but the only issue is the power supply it’s not a square one like most it’s a rectangle I want to use it and upgrade to make a gaming pc but how do I go about the power supply ?
hello..can this motherboard fit with gtx 1050ti mini?
Yes it can
