I had the same trouble but found with the arm left in, but unhooked from the frame you are able to pry to the out side enough to work the power supply back into the case with a little work without much trouble. The hard part is putting the latch arm back into the notches in the frame. (note that the spring also has to be left in place due to no room to re-attach the spring after the power supply is in place.) I just did it myself.

Top tip for these you can actually drop in a Xeon E3 like a 1240 (not sure about some of the higher wattage ones) v3 and it'll run in a 4th gen Intel optiplex :)) you get that hyperthreading, big cache, and if you do a 1290v3 higher base clock for like 20 bucks! The 1240v3 has a low enough TDP where you can toss in an RX6400 even in an SFF case!

Good video. Some of those Dell's that have an i3's like a i3 4170 have a smaller/weaker fan on the heat sink. I notice the temps were very high when I swapped out the i3 4170 to a i7 4790 on a Dell Vostro tower (fancy looking Optiplex) and I did some researching. Dell chose to save a dollar on the i3 fan/heat sink models.

Ran into the same fitting issue with the PSU on a 7010 MT and an FSP Aurum 750CM. You can jimmy it in from the bottom very carefully by removing the motherboard completely first.
The issue is actually the extra length needed for the modular components. A non modular PSU will drop in without issue.
GPU's with a length of 6.9 inches or below should fit in no problem, so an ITX model would be a good choice.
I also believe mine and the 9020 motherboards can support upto 32GB RAM. with 8 GB DDR3 1600 RAM sticks going for less than 10 USD each, is it worth going full 32 GB?

Your paste separated a bit, just squeeze it onto a piece of cardboard first and mix it up, the cardboard will also absorb the excess liquid. I once found runny paste bleeding clear liquid from beneath my AIO and was wet around the CPU area..very bad. I run liquid-metal now so no worries.

I just recently rebuilt a 9020 dumpster PC. I put in a 4790K and 32GB of RAM to start. For the Power Supply and Video Card, Dell actually made an RX-580 (though it's a standard non-overclocked card) and a 365W "upgraded" PSU with a 6-pin PCIe plug. It does work, but it comes really close to the limits of the power supply. I will put in a better supply and card later on, but it's enough to start for me. The sad part is to some extent, my 9020 SFF tends to work slightly better, despite it getting pretty warm.

For this machine you do need more than 16 GB ram max, 32 is just not needed and a waste of money in most cases (unless you need it for things other than gaming). You could live with 16 GB easily in 99% of cases, with absolutely no difference in switching to 32 GBs, you can also add in a 600 Watt with additional room just for comfort with 80 plus silver rating, and if possible add 2 cheap 120 fans intake and out, for GPU it is good, however you could also have a slightly stronger GPU such as 4050, or the very-strong-for-your-machine RX 6700, which might be an overkill upgrade which might be bottlenecked by the CPU, if don't already have an SSD it will make a huge difference (not in gaming mostly, but rather in getting a fast machine, it's night and day).

Alright! Nice build. A couple things. A Corsair CX750M PS will fit with no case mods. I run two Dell 9020s one the SFF (a2000GPU) and one the MT (RTX 2060 GPU). One runs a 4790 at 3.6ghz. The other (the MT) runs a 4790K at base clock of 4.0. The non-K tends to stay boosted to about 3.8 ghx. (very nice.) The K variety stays around 4.3 / 4.4 ghz. And that's awesome. It DOES feel just a little snappier. Makes a real difference in the 1% of brand new games that still run on 4 cores 8 threads but need all they can get from the CPU to feed the GPU. A request if you're interested. THESE Dells are great! But Microsoft seems think they are not worthy of Windows 11. (BOO!) Would you mind installing Windows 11. Seeing if there's an idiotic watermark, compatibility problems long-term. That sort of thing. So we can keep these very capable systems alive and kicking. Because they kick! :)

Hey man. I love your video and it helped me out so much. I just got a 7020 with the i7 and 32 gigs of ram for around 150$… mine is the mini tower. You also have the mini tower version, correct? I replaced the existing gpu (2gig I forget the brand) with a rx 580 (8g) but am having issues running some games, because of the psu im guessing. Everyone on Reddit says I can’t use an atx power supply because of intels proprietary connectors, but I’ve learned you can use a 24 to 8 pin adapter to connect. They also said I have to use a tfx power supply but obviously they only go so high power wise, and it’s very limited selection. I’m looking to install at least 500w maybe 700w. Is the psu you installed a standard atx? Thank you for your video and help!

Bought the AMD RX 6600 XT (Hellhound) graphics card and an TT Smart BM3 650W psu, but I get problems already when upgrading the psu. Anytime I install it and connected all power cables, my dell power Button only blinks 2x2 orange (Faulty psu or faulty psu cable connections). Tried both: with and without new graphics card. When I reinstall the original psu back into the system, everything works fine - system starts up (without new graphics card).
