    • @dominicfindlay
      @dominicfindlay 6 лет назад +3

      Jack Le I think it tells you the specific detail in motherboard manual.
      Sometimes if you have two graphics cards the top slot could go down to x8 to share the lanes

    • @colin7865
      @colin7865 6 лет назад +10

      You can also tell by looking in the slot if for some reason you've lost the manual and your board also doesn't say next to the slot. On a x16 the slot will be full of pins, x8 there will be half and x4 half again.

    • @eliadbu
      @eliadbu 6 лет назад +4

      Usually the top slot is x16 pcie but you should always consult your manual, but usually using x8 pci-e you would get most of the performance, also it is better to use slots that are directly connected with pci-e to the cpu and not through the pch. Since the connection via the pch is shared with other devices and it is limited to 4 lanes.

    • @JetBen555
      @JetBen555 6 лет назад +4

      Specifically, this 4x slot run off the chipset and compete for bandwidth with the sata and usb ports, so its very very bad to put a GPU there (also it add latency). You usually put a sound card or a capture card or PCie 4X to NVMe adapter in this kind of slot.

    • @gymweeb9229
      @gymweeb9229 6 лет назад +1

      Jack Le some mobos have all slots 16x though as long as you have enough lanes

    Just recently started to build my first PC. Finding decent parts for sale at local retailers or refurbished sales is incredibly difficult.
    I did recently find a very old Velocity Micro Edge Z5 case recently for free, and have thought about a mid-level gamer build.
    Then I see some of these cases you're building in, even the ones only like 60 or 70 that look so easy to build in. The biggest pain seems to be cable management.
    Having been watching your videos, I feel like, even though I haven't done it yet, I could build a newer style Ryzen PC at least.
    Really informative and you seem relaxed during your videos, which helps get more information across.
    Keep it up! I really enjoy these videos!

      Kenny Blankenship especially with the current graphicscard and ram prices. Im glad I got my hand on my gtx 1060 3gb for 210€ last year. I wasn't willing to pay 350€ for the 6gb version because it was already effected by mining there. And for that 5-10% performance 140€ more? Nope xD

    I have been for about six months if not longer been watching videos to learn from the experts and taking advice on future purchases to either upgrade or start with a new build and having nothing but frustrations.
    PC Parts Picker takes me down the long road of selecting items that FLAG as compatibility issues, either motherboard, SATA Drive, GPU conflicts in one way or another. Also I should mention my ideas in selecting parts usually adds up to a price well over my budget making the whole process a waste of time of my effort.
    So others videos say small changes can make an older system better in the short term. So below my old system and I have no idea what should STAY and what can be replaced using the current system.
    Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (I know this is out of date, but if I wanted lets say a AMD RYZEN 7 3700)
    ASUS GeForce GTX 550 Ti (I know needs update, but to what and with what motherboard?)
    16G Memory Kit DDR3-1866 CL10 240 ( I know I need to update to DDR4 3600 x16gb) Motherboard?
    Motherboard P8Z68-V LX ( NO idea what to select "X570" for the ATX form factor I would like that is compatible for the above items or goals)
    ATX Form Factor (Prebuilt CYBERPOWER CASE) Do I or should I update my case?
    12 inch x 9 inch ( 30.5 cm x 22.9 cm )
    Your AMZ/NEWEGG parts videos seem so easy to me but when I try this I seem to start from scratch and disregard my old system. Simply I need a push, to get over the fear of making purchases that in the end will be a waste of money with a system of new parts that will not work in the end.

  • @LLCooLM595
    @LLCooLM595 6 лет назад

    Running a custom loop in my Corsair SPEC-02 mid tower is a bit janky. I have my D5 pump mounted to one of my front 140mm fans. I also drilled the rivets out of the 5.25" bay cage so I could remove it, then cut a hole in the top of the case with a dremel so I could mount a 360mm rad where I used to have two 120mm fans. Running it in push/pull too. Had to remove the rear 120mm to fit the rad, but thats fine with me; I keep my side panel window off for my GPU, and because I didn't like the window tint. ALSO, wasn't able to fit (or afford) a resevoir, so I use a t-adapter with an end cap to fill the system. PITA, but it works. My 4.4GHz 1.325v 6800k hits around 45°C at a normal full load (a little over 55°C in the Blender BMW test), and idles at ambient (32°C in my room). Overall, for $50, I am very happy with my case. Came with 2 120mm fans and 2 140mm fans (all LED), and even "supports" a 360mm rad. I could """fit""" a 280mm at the front, but I don't have the need for it until I get a waterblock for my GTX 1080. Highly reccomend this case if you dont mind modding it a little!

    For low change GPU temp, remember that with the added lanes, the second setup was working harder. You would actually expect a temperature rise, but with better airflow, you were lucky to get a temperature drop.

    When I first built my pc, I had my top exhaust fan way towards the front of my case. The reason was because my wires didn’t settle yet and the fan (where I wanted it to be) was chopping at my cpu to power supply wire. So I just moved it back, little did I realize, most of the airflow that was entering my pc was getting exhausted before it even hit my cpu. The air was always blowing out cold so I was like wow my airflow is great! Then I realized how flawed my system was and after bending the wires a bit more my fan stopped chopping and now it’s working perfectly

    I had my previous PC looking horrible, even worse than what he showed here in terms of cable management and airflow (gpu and memory were mounted correctly of course), but that was because I assembled my first PC on a dinosaur case from 2004 and upgraded and introduced new parts over time without changing case, just about a few weeks ago I upgraded again and this time got a new case too, finally did my pc right and I even enjoy just looking at it now 😅😂 I didn't know thermals/airflow was so crucial for performance, I was actually concerned my pc was running so frikin cold now.
