- In this episode, we discuss the Episode IX teaser trailer and panel as well as its title: The Rise of the Skywalker. We speculate about bendemption, Reylo, the emperor, the idea of Hux as a villain, Kylo and Rey, Reylo, whether they're training, etc.
We comment on what was said at the TROS panel at Celebration, especially some comments from JJ and Daisy Ridley and what it suggests for TROS and the Sequel Trilogy.
We also comment on Daisygate, when Daisy said some people claim Reylo is toxic.

My thought on the "Ben threw Rey under the bus" comment in regards to killing Snoke, is that he HAD to say that. He couldn't tell Hux he killed Snoke, because why? To save the girl? That would put Rey in greater danger because Hux would see that she is his weakness, and no doubt, Hux is looking for a weakness.
tratricia Yeah I was thinking that too. More along the lines of him being cast as a traitor than him blaming it all on Rey.
@@monicapalmer8276 but it's also suspicious this "new girl" that Hux is "aware of" (not much about Hux in the novelization for TFA & TLJ) that he wouldn't be suspicious that Kylo was left unscathed while the Praetorian Guard and Snoke were killed.
I also really want to know what happened when Kylo was passed out! What was Rey thinking when she put Kylo's saber back next to him?

Glad you pointed out that they used Leia's theme. That was my favorite thing about the trailer and too many people miss it.

@Lords of the Sith Podcast hi guys I've been waiting for something like this from you all. A few things:
1. I know you guys are aware of the girls from What The Force Podcast since you shouted them out for providing the audio for your panel and im glad you did because I wasnt aware of them at all. I went to their channel and like yourselves they have some interesting ideas and topics about this ST and of course their Reylos 😊 but the one vid that I really liked was the interview they did with author Claudia Gray who wrote the Princess Leia books as well as other SW lore and backstories for other characters and what she said about the usage of romance being the ultimate concept that is the driver and encapsulates a story and that it is not the typical "cute girl meets cute guy or good girl meets good guys" type of dynamic. I think that is the very essence of what's going on between Rey and Ben and even after TLJ some may say it's not romance they are trying to portray with these characters but then when you look at all the signs in the movies even with the position of them in posters where they are always very near each other and comments made by both directors of the past movies. For instance, JJ Abrams said in the TFA commmetarty that the relationship they were focusing more on was that of Rey and Kylo/Ben and that it was going to be a very interesting one she'll have with him moving forward. JJ was the one in a very subtle way made Reylo canon and brought it to the forefront by putting Finn in the friendzone from the jump especially when you listen or read the commentary about Rey and Finn dynamic and where JJ was going with it. Not to mention other statements JJ made about his approach for Episode 7 before it came out was that "this is a story about a young man and a young woman" that stamement alone coincides perfectly with Rian "Reylo" Johnson's comments that Rey and Kylo are our dual protagonist and not to mention you don't have to second guess where Rian stands on this relationship 😂. Also besides that interview Daisy did with Steele Wars there are so many besides that one that she made when asked about the relationship between Rey and Kylo/Ben. For instance, on the panel she was all smiles as well as everyone else when the host Stephen Colbert asked her about the relationship as well as the one she did with Good Morning America with Paula Faris where she expanded more about the relationship dynamic and that it'll be explored in much greater depth also the one she did with MTV when the interviewer asked her that the title has to refer to Ben since he is a Skywalker and Daisy confirmed saying yes he is a Skywalker.
2. As stated by JJ in earlier interviews before 7 came out was that in SW many things are very important such as costume design. So riddle me this why for this last episode in the saga they have both Rey and Kylo with hoods for their costume designs im just saying I'm getting a real "couple wearing matching outfits" vibes from this with a little hint of How to Train Your Dragon The Hidden World feel as well 😏. Plus Rey is wearing an arm band on her upper right arm in the exact same place as Padme from AOTC and I don't know if you guys remember or seen this but for the 2017 San Diego Comic Con poster that displays all the Skywalker SW trilogies and on the poster where you have all the major characters from each trilogy they have Ben and Rey in the exact same positions as Anakin and Padme but their mirroring each other if that makes sense and they showed the scar that Padme received in battle with her romantic partner. Crazy right?
3. Lastly as it relates to Kylo/Ben himself what the cowriter from TFA Larry Kasdan said about the character during an interview panel with the cast and JJ and Mindy Kaling who was the host he said "there has never been a character like Kylo in the Saga and no he doesn't have his sh*t all together and you think he's suppose to be this evil genius but what you're getting is the conflict and contradiction that people can sometimes feel that anyone else can feel and Adam acts it so beautifully".
Sorry for the long post and rambling but you guys get me so HYPED!!!! and now since I've seen Endgame I'm fully ready for all the epic, emotional, satisfying conclusion that JJ and company have in store for us come December.
1. Yes, that interview is awesome, and yes, we believe love is central to the ST. Celebration, the IX panel, comments by crew and cast, especially DR and John Boyega were very positive towards Reylo. We were pressed for time and didn't really elaborate here, though.
2. They're not subtle on the reverse Anidala... It's nice that our power couple again has matching outfits.
3. I haven't seen Endgame and I'm hoping it's length will encourage LF to release a long Episode IX.

Loved listening in! I don't think Daisy's comments will affect Reylo in Episode 9. Reylo is endgame.

One thing I was really worried about was JJ and Co putting a bunch of new characters I don't care about into IX, so no matter how they spin Palpatine as the big bad I will be happy!

After hearing that Rey and Kylo have a fight where they jump through space and time, coupling that with the fact we don’t know who Matt Smith is playing, just that he’s connected to the First Order, I wonder if his character is a young Snoke that Rey and Kylo accidentally run into during their fight?
Just this feeling I have ... that Snoke isn’t done, he was always the big bad and leakers have suggested Palpy’s role is important but minor in the grand scheme ...
Maybe... The official material and the leaks sound quite promising!

YESSS Denise! "The grandparents"! I can't believe I haven't heard more people with this take. I liked the Rey Palpatine theory and Rey Kenobi, but I seriously couldn't choose. Rey nobody was fine as well, but the grand parents would be the key.
I think the Kylo knocking down the guy scene instead of cutting him in half with the light saber....may be that armor that guy had might be light saber proof. I think the knights of Ren are working with Palpatine. Theories! I love the thought of Palpatine needing a body to exist in strong enough for him and putting Snoke in charge of developing that. That slips into place really well. I am also thinking Rise of Skywalker IS referring to Luke and his rise in the force to be stronger than the dark side so that evil can not take over again...thereby ending the Saga. I have suspected that the mask was being repaired for someone else...Hux maybe to wear it as a disguise to look like Kylo.
Lightsaber proof clothes is an interesting theory. Someone disguised as Kylo is super interesting as well, but, like we comment in the video, we don't think it will be the case, but we could be wrong, of course.

Hello Denise and Lee! I'm very happy for all the fans who were able to attend the Star Wars convention! I love the title of this 9th movie, The Rise of Skywalker. I believe that it's truly a sign of Kylo's rise to the Light as Ben Solo Skywalker, Rey will be by Kylo's side to help because of her love for him to become who he's meant to be, Ben Solo Skywalker. Also Ben will be helping Rey to become who she is meant to be, the woman he loves , a somebody-Rey Skywalker, Ben's wife. Ben will be redeemed because there's always Love, Hope and Forgiveness on both sides working together to fight the greater evil---Palpatine. There's balance, co-operation, two heads are better than one and this man and this woman belong together as they are meant to be. Hux, well his eyes are glazed over with delusions of grandure. His speech to the Storm Troopers in TFA so much as says so.Hux wants all the power and will do whatever it takes to get that power by any means necessary. We all know that Hux has no problem murdering anyone who gets in his way. The beginning trailer of TROS, I believe is a training session. Luke is talking to both Rey and Ben because of their connection with each other and the Force. I'm okay with Rey being a Nobody, but yes, have a small bit of closure for her. Mask on (Kylo) Mask off (Ben) Lando lives please!! Uncle Luke is a Force Ghost. Chewy most certainly deserves a medal, especially because of the fact that he's had alot of Mud flung at him throughout his long life!!.. The defeat of Palpatine will be very interesting. Love Reylo!!... Life itself is a rollercoaster ride with it's ups and downs, good and bad, love and war, forgiveness and redemption---moving on, rising to the occasion---fighting for love and looking for the good in people no matter who they are. Absolutely no body parts missing on either Ben or Rey!!!... All the 'uncles' and dad too should get involved with Ben and give him the lecture of a lifetime!.. Yes, Ben should do something for the greater good. Bendemption all the way!!! Reylo too!!! I love Rose and Finn's blosoming relationship!!!!... One last thing, a song suggestion: Your Disguise by Heroes for Nothing LLC. It's from the 2008 movie Penelope with Christina Ricci and James McAvoy. Penelope's scarf hiding her face reminded me of Ben hiding his face whenever he reverted back to being Kylo.
I really enjoyed this episode I agree in many aspects, especially with the idea of Ben redemption. It is so fundamental since the name of the movie is The Rise of Skywalker, for Han, for Leia and Luke and even if Rey ends up being a Skywalker which I hope not.
She might end up being a Skywalker. You know... in the end... not by birth. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

It would be interesting if the reason Palpatine comes back now, is because he was waiting for the Last Jedi to fall, specifically, Luke, who was the sole reason that Vader was redeemed in the first place... and now Rey and Kylo have to team up to stop him!!!! Dun dun dun!!!!!!

Inspired by what Lee said about the Skywalker theory - it was a Skywalker that brought down the Jedi and it was a Skywalker that brought down the Sith, Ben is another Skywalker who will hopefully be a powerful darksider and light-ish sider perhaps the first with Rey to reach a balance. Maybe the whole Grey jedi thing will be named Skywalker and since Kylo will be the first the name is after his lineage? Then the title would make sense. On a different note- wondering if you'll do a longer discussion on the teaser and all the new info from celebration? And thank you

Just a bit of a correction. The music in the TROS trailer is not Han and Leia’s love theme, which is titled Han Solo and the Princess. What we hear in the TROS trailer is Princess Leia’s Theme, which was first heard in A New Hope, way before there was any inkling of a romantic relationship between Han Solo and Princess Leia. John Williams originally wrote Princess Leia’s Theme as a love theme for Luke and Leia - but since George Lucas had different ideas for Leia’s romantic arc, that theme eventually came to be known as Princess Leia’s Theme. The maestro eventually wrote a magnificent theme for Luke and Leia, which was first heard in Return of the Jedi, and later, as when Luke appeared to Leia on Crait, to say goodbye. Yes, it was Leia's theme. It was a mistake. Nice tribute to Leia.
There's more to the switch-off between Han Solo and the Princess and Princess Leia's Theme than that, which also happens at the end of ESB in this same exact context. When Han is frozen in Carbonite, we get the most fully orchestrated, dramatic version of the love theme, but when Leia is ALONE and looking on as Han is taken away from her by Boba Fett, the music returns to a very melancholy version of her theme, signifying that she's single again.
The trailer music for TFA, on the other hand, was a very lushly orchestrated version of the love theme (which played particularly prominently when the Falcon entered during the clip selection. Thus, if it is Leia's solo theme once again after the love theme died in TFA, it signifies that she is alone after Han's death.
Note, however, that the only theme approaching something Han was given for himself besides The Rebel Fleet almost having more notability during Falcon flying sequences (in other words, the status of it as the Rebellion's theme instead of the Falcon's is debatable!) and the jaunty little Death Star corridor run music, was that love theme. And the love theme is basically just a more lavish expansion of Leia's simple flute theme rather than a separate piece of music.
Basically, the use of Princess Leia's Theme signifies the same thing as the reprise of it during the end of ESB, except this time Han is actually irretrievably dead. However, it is not quite a separate piece of music from the love theme, just a different, earlier and simplified orchestration. It can also signify that Ben Solo is the son of Han and Leia, but that he, too, is without Han.
That these two pieces of music are used so prominently in the main trailers for the ST means that these pieces have taken on meaning even beyond the presence of Han and Leia in the films, since the story is actually not about them anymore, but rather their unfinished legacy.

Freaking amazing panel you guys! I just continue to be amazed on how articulately you formulate your arguments. I've noticed a lot of pod-caster's have trouble clearly and thoroughly organizing their thoughts during live streaming. I know I would! You even managed to comprehensively breakdown the trailer after one day. It took youtube and twitter a week, haha.

I definitely agree that seeing Ben save Finn or Poe would be amazing. I would love a bro-moment between these guys. It would be really impactfull.
I think the feedback was positive. If anything, the romance panel helped dispel some misconceptions, and it might have helped. We didn't have a lot of time to prepare because Celebration is crazy... There's a new video about the teaser coming.

I think he was born in the UK but moved to the US when he was very young. His accent is really nice.

I have questions: 1: why kylo whould have wanted to mend his mask if a lot of time passed? Ep 9 will start one year after tlj so why repair his mask now? Or at least why show such a thing? 2. You're right when you anylize the music of the trailer BUT during the titile revial it was Kylo music but whit higher note?? Sure it means something.

We don't know when he fixed it, right? It could be a flashback. It could also be tied to a ritual or something. There are some theories and possible spoilers floating around. I think it's an interesting point to speculate on.
Yes, we were commenting on the moment the title appears. Kylo's theme rises and is resolved. It sounded incomplete, dissonant, and now it gets a note that concludes it and gives it a harmonious tone, right when we see Rise of the Skywalker... In case anyone was still wondering who the Skywalker is...
"Rise of Skywalker" = aka Rise of Ben Solo and force sensitive beings. I approve of this title.

The " thousand generations" is obviously about the jedi, are you kidding me?. The first freaking time we heard about them was "For over a thousand generations the Jedi Knights were the guardians of peace and justice"

Yeah, and KK has emphasized that the Sequel Trilogy is about family. But it's a theory that has been going around. It's true that it might be based on an idea of no Skywalker descendents.
1. The thing I think a lot of people didn't catch in Force Awakens is that Rey's visions went from past to future.....back and forth.
2. 22:49 Where's that from??? When did they show that!3. 27:42 You noticed that Hux ...and the actor...are not even mentioned, not in the trailer OR the panel. It means something....Hux *may* turn out to be a vessel after all.

okay they didn't show that picture online I guess you had to be there to see it, but it seems to back up what Mike Zeroh was saying, Rey and Kylo will have a fight on this desert planet, then at a crucial moment they have to help each other to survive ....and that's when they start talking to one another again. But we'll see if that's true for sure....

We did. It really goes in line with what we have been speculating.
2 things: Something a lot of people are missing is daisy is NOT going to say anything about her and Ben in episode 9. Their relationship IS toxic at times in the first 2 movies - she’s NOT going to talk about their relationship in 9 at all in an interview now. She’s talking about it from Rey’s perspective after 8. This is how it goes. Secondly, she seemed to mostly be talking about the actual community itself and some of the art that goes with it. (The harassment that occurs in the community as well as some of the really risqué almost 50 shades of gray” art. She is not ever going to talk about how she feels about Ben at the end of 9 or anything like that. Let’s not forget that Ben was wrong for what he did at the end of the movie. That’s why his glove was still on when he made his proposal - and he was wrong when he said “let the past die kill it if you have to”.
Well done! Hmm I noticed in the teaser that Poe is also wearing gloves. There is the possibility that Poe is helping Rey train. He would be willing to try such a dangerous stunt with her. I tend to think Kylo would be more careful training her. (Because he loves her and doesn't want to hurt her.❤ )
That's an interesting theory. The issue is that that ship is Kylo's, and he would be interested in teaching her. Still, it's an interesting theory, for sure!
Hello again guys @ Lords of the Sith Podcast I don't know if you all plan on doing any theories for Episode 9 but something I've been thinking about since the teaser from Celebration especially with that sadistic laugh from good old Palps and forgive me for overanalyzing things but I have to get this out. During some standalone interviews at celebration both JJ Abrams and Ian Mcdermid who plays Palpatine said Palpatine is dead but Kathleen Kennedy said it was always the plan to incorporate him into the last chapter which may come off as confusing to an audience but could all three of their statements be right?
Here is my theory could Palpatine be spiritually alive somehow and using certain vessels for instance like Snoke. Because when Kylo killed him it was just sparks and no blood at all (then again there is never blood from anyone who gets impaled by a lightsaber) however, from the words of Palpatine himself when he stated to Anakin in ROTS that using aspects of the dark side of the Force gives you many abilities some may consider unnatural. Going back to Snoke, Snoke sensed Ben Solo in the womb and I can't remember which canon book this was from but there's a moment where Leia felt a dark presence coraling her child in the womb and at one point the presence was using the Force to lift her off the ground and choke her so as the reader it can't be the child because it isnt fully developed or aware that it has this mystical power and Snoke knew exactly where Ben came from such as his Skywalker lineage and wanted to mold him into becoming a new Vader which to me seems like he had a very personal agenda with this child. Also Palpatine's Sith name itself gives some hints. Sidious is clearly derived from the word insidious which is synonymous with words like deceitful, cunning, tricky, treacherous, etc. So could Palpatine take on another host and even though he denies being in Episode 9 but could that person be Matt Smith? Just a thought.
Oh, there's a theory (ad possible spoiler) from MSW stating exactly that. Regardless of whether Matt Smith is or isn't in the movie, it makes sense for Palpatine not to be alive, but a presence... It sounds exciting!
Does 'Bloodline' clearly state it was Snoke who was influencing Ben in the womb? I was thinking it could have been Palpatine and we were only lead to believe it was Snoke.
@@LordsoftheSithPodcast I hope it comes to fruition because truthfully I would really love to see that because it will pave the way for our boy Ben Solo's redemption which I cant fathom why some people are against it and not to get you guys in your feelings but do you think Ben's phrase "I know what I have to do" be used in a dramatic moment in 9 and maybe he's saying it in Rey's presence?
@@bethv886 In Bloodline it only refers to it as a presence but the TFA novel pretty much confirms it you know that scene in the movie version of TFA when Leia and Han are talking after the resistance formulate a plan to destroy star killer base when Han said it was Snoke that seduced our son, that dialogue is expounded more on in the novel when Leia says he was always watching our son in the beginning plus in the novel it really shows how obsessed Snoke was with Ben if you read it you'll know exactly what I'm talking about its pretty much predatorial

Yes, that's what a lot of people have been theorizing. I don't think so because his mask is so symbolic, but maybe... we'll see...
I think the Jedi have been renamed Skywalkers. Also, I'm guess that scene with Kylo in the red wooded area is going to be the opening sequence as the First Order is taking down another Resistance outpost. He then realizes that he needs the mask to stay on the Dark Side. I don't think it's him repairing the mask. That person has really hairy hands!
