Yessss...we have all been saying that we don't want Rey to fix Ben for his redemption...he has to do it. It would be an injustice for her character to have this codependent dysfunctional dream come true of changing her man into what she thinks he should be...ugh. Bendemption has to come from him and be done by him. I don't want her trying to fix him or change him. Rian did a good job of showing that it was a failure to try to do that. Plus, she should want him for him, not for what she'd like him to be...it would be a disservice to each character and their relationship...

As a Reylo shipper I'm playing the ewok celebration song in my head. I hope Reylo is the endgame and bendemtion happens, if so I will walk out of the theather very happy indeed. Great stuff as always ladies!!!

Honestly what made me a reylo shipper was a podcast from Star Wars Connection when someone compared the Kylo and Poe interrogation scene to the Kylo and Rey interrogation scene. Basically saying exactly the same thing that Kylo was being vulnerable with her. It really opened my mind to the ship. Love hearing from you ladies!

I do somewhat agree with Mary regarding Rey's seeming lack of a character arc in TLJ, but I think there's more to it than just lacking a character arc. I think she DOES have a character arc, but it's very broad-stroke and only visible through thematic lenses. I found her arc to be her having to learn to make decisions for herself and taking things into her own hands, to get over the idea of turning to someone else to solve all the problems and to start doing it herself. Kind of like growing up and the transition from childhood to adulthood where you need to learn to become less reliant on others and more independent. Though even that is kind of overshadowed, at least to me, by the subtextual arc of her sexual awakening and maturation into a woman. (Speaking of which, thank you Denise for that very enlightening interpretation of Rey's lightsaber. If I didn't love that saber enough already, I'd love it even more because of that.)
But the main reason I think Rey's character arc is seemingly lacking in TLJ is because of Luke being added to the film. With Luke coming in, it was basically a requirement that he get a full character arc because he's such a big character. It was unavoidable. Couple that in addition to Kylo's arc and how all three are so closely tied together, and you have Rey trying to compete for attention with two Skywalkers in the Skywalker Saga. She's just not going to win in that case no matter how much you try to get the spotlight on her, as Skywalkers will always overshadow her. Her arc can peacefully coexist with the arc of one Skywalker as was the case in TFA, but the arcs of TWO Skywalkers? Forget it. But with Luke being limited to a cameo in TROS, I think things will be just fine for Rey's character arc there.
Honestly I'm just fed up with the leaks and the ridiculousness of them. It's gotten to the point that I actually cackle in evil a la Palpatine when those outlandish leaks are proven false.
Now we're all just waiting to plow full speed ahead with the Reylo! And The Senate! I'm so freaking ready already for December. If it weren't for you girls making the wait enjoyable, I'd have died of anticipation already.
Yeah, maybe Rey will be fine in 9. Yeah, those leaks are ridiculous. But frankly, the issue is the amount of people who actually believe in those leaks when they don't make sense.
100%!! I remember how upset my mom was when Luke died in TLJ and wasn't going to ba main character in TROS, but I told her that if he was in all of TROS, all the attention would be on him and not on Rey because he's Luke Skywalker. I think that if he hadn't died in TLJ then no one would be focussing on Rey and Kylo even though they're the protagonists. And don't get me wrong, I was sad when Luke died, but I thought it was necessary in order for Rey and Kylo to fully develop:)
Yes, I love the idea that Rey may have killed her parents as they were abandoning her! It would mean her pure fear of the force in TFA ("I don't want any part of this") would make so much sense. Like subconsciously she knows what she did with that "force" and she's terrified of doing something like that again. Which would also make her possible turn to the dark side in ROS more emotional.

I do hope we are right about the direction of the saga. Of course if/when it comes out to be reylo and Bendemption, the critics are just going to say that it's all Rian's fault. They are going to say that JJ had a different path for everyone originally, and he only had to rewrite because Rian went so far off base. Of course by then we will have tons of analysis to use in defense. I hope by then that JJ can speak more freely about it all and put some of these rumors to bed. Hopefully by the DVD release he'll be able to do that. I also hope he'll share a few ideas of extra scenes he would have used with Carrie Fisher, had she been able to work on this movie as well. Maybe they'll put it in the book, or comics.
Yeah... it will be fun when JJ opens up about his vision. I agree that some haters are going to say that it Was Rian who invented Reylo, which is ridiculous.
I've been thinking exactly the same about kylo's helmet, it could be interpreted as foreshadowing for bendemption. I think the red cracks that the helmet have also show the fact that, first of all, at least for the time being, he has somehow regressed to the way he was/felt before everything that happened to him in tlj (rey included), but not fully. He is now the supreme leader of the first order, he's "evil kylo ren" again, so he's gotta have the mask, but in reality he is not the same he used/tried to be and will never be. He's broken, he's confused and he's not full with the position he's in now. And those cracks are the proof of it. The mask will eventually have to leave again, now for good.

I will paste a comment I have done in other channel to share my view about all these leaks... cause I cannot believe in such simple arc for Ben...sorry if does not make sense too. In any case I keep positive Reylo is real.
" I still believe Ben is a double agent..long ago Anakyn asked his help and taught him that the only way to find Palps would be closing himself off from the light side, that he would have to give up everything to get closer to Snoke and let people die in exchange of a greater reason. He knew about 'the girl' through Anakyn and also knew that once he found her Palps would try to reach both of them. Killing Snoke was part of plan, that's why Snoke could not sense the betrayal and he offered Rey to join him because only then he would be able to destroy Palps. With Rey's refusal the only option would be going on with the plan till Palps show himself on...quite crazy.
That would explain 'I will finish what you've started' and 'kill the past if you have to' (this would mean kill your past meaning Palps) and answering Rey that he did not hate Han...crazy crazy...and finally this would explain why Rey keep feeling the light on him. By the force itself Ben could not hide himself 100% from her.

Great to see a video from you ladies. I am really loving all these quotes from Empire especially the ones concerning Rey. I don't mean about her parentage but the one about if she is ready to be the 'spiritual heir' of the Jedi. Looking forward to your reaction of the trailer that is coming soon.

Thanks for all the comments! Yes. They want everyone to come to the movies. I still think they've been promoting Reylo, though, it's just that they need to keep the intrigue and keep people guessing. That said, it's true that people could interpret the marketing as meaning that IX will be their ultimate confrontation, that they'll be adversaries... True. But then, they misinterpret everything. Reylos also want to see a Rey-Kylo rematch, so it works for us, I think.
The marketing has not been promoting Reylo and I have no idea why.

Lords of the Sith Podcast I recently saw a TROS poster that marketed Kylo as a “Sith”, which I thought was strange. Wasn’t it already confirmed he wasn’t? I guess I’m just curious how they’ll connect Kylo’s character arc from TLJ to TROS, because I don’t really see a logical flow yet from what we’ve been given. 🤔 Idk, I know it’s still early! Might just be me worrying over nothing
@@IvyGirl22 it could have been a mistake, but it's also possible that they decided to bring back the Sith with Palpatine. Maybe he is some sort of Sith. That would definitely be a retcon to what they'd been saying... but doesn't necessarily contradict the canon material. Then maybe Palpatine comes as an adversary even to Kylo and it's true that he has never been a Sith. We like the Sith, though...

Oh yes so much has happened in a short space of time since all things D23 and Dark Rey had occur. And you know I'm having a hard time figuring out what it is that I want to add on in this thread , I really don't know what to say because there's so much to say right now reflecting on what has been revealed for the world to see in my heart I believe the general public has a small hint of what's to come and those that are still living in their sad little bubble trying to pretend and deny reality that's being put on display for all to see I don't know what to tell you those in the bubble living in denial but I think it's going to be harder to avoid as time goes by you might as well face it you know. Can't beat us, join us after all it's never too late to redeem oneself and that statement of course remains ever so true now more than ever. And like you said before the end of this video and I'm just going to paraphrase this journey is all about love, hope and redemption three things to this day remains unchanged and is still relevant and ultimately that is what's going to win.
I'm not quite sure if this has been said before towards your channel and if it hasn't well then let me just have this to say right now...this channel including your formal one Star Wars Connection correct me if I'm wrong but you guys were one of the first content creators in the Reylo community aside from all the artist making fan art and putting together music videos and fan fiction at the time but you folks were one of the first that gave it a voice and became it's own little club house talking about this couple and comparing them to a variety of literature and discussing theory after theory while everyone else was doing their own thing and assuming that Reylo wasn't going to go any further...boy we're they wrong. Myself included. But then a little independent film called The Last Jedi out of nowhere told me to stop drinking the Rey Skywalker Kool Aid and start sipping the tea and coffee [I prefer ice coffee by the way]. Anyway enough about me, but uh you guys ought to be very proud of yourselves for coming this far and still growing and I only hope that after this trilogy is over you still continue to have this channel grow and I hope one day you do a collaboration with Girls with sabers or What the Force or even Jedi Jade someday. :) Anyway thank you for all that you do keep it up.
Oh, thanks. Yeah, SWC had even more people. It's true that nobody was talking about that stuff on RUclips. We need to collaborate, for sure, but sometimes we have a hard time even recording our own stuff because of time constraints. What the Force collaborated with us at Celebration. You mentioned that you wanted to see Rey struggle with controlling her Force powers. This is what happens in the Star Wars Allegiance comic, so it might be resolved in the comic, or it might come up in Resistance Reborn, or maybe even TRoS.
Bendemption. The choice to walk the right path has to come FROM Ben. He has to do it because he WANTS to do it. As for Ben and Rey, their romantic union is the thing that makes the best sense for this story. Why? I think it goes beyond them
It's about restoring the honor, value and virtue of romantic love itself. The Prequel Trilogy essentially "took" romantic love and said:
"Eeewwww! Don't do it. Attachment! Emotion! Bad! Dark Side! EEEEEEEEEEEWWW!!!"
It was painted in a negative light, as something completely worthless that would only destroy people if it were pursued. If romantic love were instead to lead to inspiration to change for the better for Ben, and to the healing of Rey's own lonely and broken heart, then it would be seen as something good that can heal and change a destiny for the better.

1] Seeing that side-by-side shot of Carrie and Adam made me realize how much they really looked alike.
& 2] How would you feel about a storyline where it's hinted that Rey and Kylo have a "physically intimate" moment, he dies in an act of self-sacrifice, and it's revealed at the end of the movie that Rey is pregnant?
At least the saga would continue. It all depends on execution.

Personally as a guy most see me being into Reylo as toxic which is mind boggling as Reylo is the most Starwars thing since the OT. Given I still see it being executed horribly but I grew up with KOTOR and compare them to RevenXBastila.

TBF, it's possible that other people might have said the same... But it makes a lot of sense, and contributes to the idea that JJ is honouring what came before, symbology and all.

Thank you for the video! Glad to get this first thing in the morning. So your point about the interrogation scene...the book does a great job of having Kylo explain that he will be gentle and that alone should suggest that he was going to take information but he had no intention of being cruel. The leaks are such bs! If you look at the reddit page, the jedi praxis (or however you spell it) has been catering information to readers. So he/she is in it to get attention. None of it makes sense. Also, the dagger portion is interesting BUT the new visual dictionary has a "Tie Dagger" which is a new ship. Why would they have a ship called a Dagger and an actual dagger included in the movie. My belief is this person had some info and applied context to it basically crafting a (mediocre) plot based on the loose info.
Good point about Tie Dagger. Maybe they got confused. Yeah, Jedi Praxis is now saying that his leaks won't come true because they are reshooting... It's completely out of touch with the reality of filming.

That's an interesting point about the lightsaber as sexual imagery. Lightsaber+cave = *** And what comes out - Rey is reborn as a woman (she's cold, shocked and wet - a new born babe?). But what is born out of the "cave" is hope and a birth process is difficult...and the broken lightsaber... That's not a hymen at all, is it? :P

The idea about Rey killing her parents wouldn't work with the story as it's been set up thus far. She remembers being abandoned and represses the memory of their nature - Ben pulls this back out of her hidden memory and surely he would have seen such a thing?
If Rey is going to have a Dark-side moment or Force-tantrum, it could be what was shadowed in the snow-fight on Starkiller Base when she cuts down Kylo Ren and is *almost* about to give into the dark voices and kill him. What if Rey loses control?
It would be cool to see her lose control...
I'm really curious what people's thoughts are of why masked Ben is left handed on the poster? Is it an editing fluke and means nothing? I cant find anyone's comments on that online.

Well it could just be part of his saber form. I'm not much of a swordsman, but I do enjoy it; depending on how you fight switching stances from orthodox to southpaw could just be part of the style.
I'm anxious for them to be a couple not fight I'd want for them to be an item I so want that but it may not happen at least not in this or will they have stand a lone films a Solo or two no pun intended sure hope we haven't seen the last of Kylo Ren and Rey my new faves
I don't think they'll be in more movies, at least not that soon. I know it seems short, but it's a whole movie and a lot was done in Episode 8. Something will have to happen in 9.
If they didn't move on with Reylo, which would be illogical since it was intended from the first, it would be very poor story telling. I think they refrained from that marketing in the first place in order to keep things a mystery, especially since he was going to kill Han. They had to wait until people saw more humanity in him and started to heal a bit from Han's death. And I agree in part on Ben's redemption. He must repent on his own, but forgiveness, which completes redemption, is a free gift. It can't be earned or bought. That's the whole point. It isn't deserved, because nothing can fix or make better what was done (redemption comes from the Judeo-Christian worldview, so the redeemer is a pure one, the Messiah, who has no crime but takes on the crime of the guilty. So the idea of redemption is tainted by a worldview where such a thing can be earned), but the one who forgives does so knowing it's given out of love, not because it was earned. By the way, I really liked Maz. Klaud looks like a skinny cousin of Jabba. He looks like a fat finger. I can't wait for the movie! I'm so excited.
If those leaks are real then this movie will be absolutely worse than the GoT series finale.

The only thing I expect out of Episode 9 is for Ben to turn good and for Rey to turn evil. However I don't see these two getting together at the end of the saga.
