  • In this video I take a stock Epiphone Electar Tube 10 and modify the circuit before removing rust from the hardware, repainting the front emblem, and doing a general clean up to make it look close to new again.

Use a BIC ballpoint pen to release standoff. Pull the ink cartridge from the tip. Then the hole size is perfect to compress clips and lift off the board.

I bought one for $30 at a pawn shop. Used a yellow jacket to hookup a el84 and swapped the speaker with a Jensen mod 8”. I really dug the Brit tone. Sold it and now I’m actually trading another amp to get that one back. Want to make a mini z clone with it

That feeling when the preamp tube in your new amp is worth more than you paid for the amp itself. 🤟🏻
I own one of these. Needs tone help for sure. Probably a speaker upgrade.
Question: you discussed trying several mods but only showed one of them. Did you try the others? Results?

Yeah, that tube won't be staying with this amp, as that would be a bit of a waste.
And I guess I neglected to include my usual "I did these mods" part in the video. Sorry about that.
After a bit of experimentation, I ended up performing most of the modifications I mentioned in the video. Here's a list of what I ended up doing:
      1. Re-biased the power tubes to run them just a bit hotter and increased the bypass cap to a 1000uF.
      2. Re-biased the first gain stage to 1.5k and lowered the bypass cap value so it wasn't pushing so much bass
      3. Pulled the bypass cap on the second stage
      4. Changed C2 to .02uF
      5. Removed R5
      6. Jumpered C5
If I were to go at this thing again, I would probably completely change it into a Champ circuit including adding a NFB circuit to it to continue to tame the flab.
I'm really not satisfied with the overall tone I ended up with, but it was a definite improvement over what it was originally.

I’ve been doing other stuff. It’s tough to stay motivated to make these videos when it’s a crap shoot as to whether anyone will watch them.
I do have a bit of footage shot on a few projects. I may get the urge to cut another video or two in the coming months.
