  • Playthrough Rules:
    1. Only my starter in battle
    2. No items in battle*
    3. No glitches or exploits*
    4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
    Other rules:
-- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
-- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
-- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- My Pokemon has perfect DVs
-- The Trash-Can-Puzzle is automatically solved so times are not affected by RNG
-- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
-- Skipping the bike is not allowed
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
    *Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
    -- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
-- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
-- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu

    3. Surge, Sabrina, and Blaine do not have Good AI
    4. The Elite Four have better movesets
    5. Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni have higher level teams
    6. Blaine doesn't use Super Potions are full HP
    7. The rival picks his eeveelution based on the outcome of the first two battles.
-- Lose in the lab: Vaporeon
-- Win in the lab and skip route 22: Flareon*
-- Win in both locations: Jolteon
-- *You cannot lose on route 22 because you blackout
    Terms:
    -- STAB
    -- Same-Type-Attack-Bonus - a 1.5x damage multiplier
    -- Stat Experience
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of effort values. You can invest in all stats until they max
    out at 65535
    -- DVs or Determinate Values
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of IVs (individual values), these range from 0-15
    Resources:
    -- Gen 1 Stat Calculator: pycosites.com/pkmn/stat_gen1.php
-- All Trainer Pokemon have IVs (DVs) of 89888 (hp, atk, def, spd, spc)
-- All Trainer Pokemon have EVs of 0
    -- Gen 1 Crit Rates: www.smogon.com/rb/articles/cr...
-- Crit rate is determined by dividing base speed by 512
-- High crit rate moves determine their rate by dividing base speed by 64
-- All crits have a 1/256 to fail, even if the rate is 100%
-- Crits don't multiple damage by 2, it's a formula based on level

Thinking about it, dragon/rock would've been an interesting type in Gen 1. Only 3 effective weaknesses(since Dragon damage wasn't yet really a thing) and 5 resistances. I bring this up because that'd be more interesting than another dragon/flying for Gen1.
Also, I have this hypothesis that the reason why all the fossils revive as part rock type is because the machine for recreating the creatures can't separate the rock from what they're *supposed* to be.

Starts with 60BS physical STAB flying move (wing attack) and gets bite, rock slide, flamethrower, fire blast, steel wing, aerial ace, earthquake, ancient power and dragon claw. Even though some moves are special, they can still be used despite having 60 special attack.

11:14 - An the self-destructing Hiker even took 9 turns to use Rock Throw. He was giving you that win, but seeing weren't going to accept his generosity, decided no more Mr Nice Guy for all your other matches. It was rather hilarious though seeing you rely on Bide of all things.
It seems Aerodactyl is quite the gambler; for as monstrous as it looks and feels with it's power, it ultimately relied on hopeful crits to pull it through. Fascinating to see how poorly things can go for such a high stat Pokémon when it has to do everything on it's own.

    2) Moves that inflict status have regular accuracy when used by the AI. Thunder Wave cannot miss as I stated it could in the video. The AI does have a 25% chance to miss stat altering moves, but not status moves. This 25% chance to miss was added to status moves in generation 2 (see Chuck's Poliwrath missing Hypnosis after setting up Mind Reader for an example.)

It’s not like Rock type got any better in later generations. Over 7 generations later and the best rock types are a pseudolegendary that can cover up its weak special attack by summoning sandstorm, the equivalent of Calyrex-Ice Rider for Rock types, an accidentally good staller because it’s part Grass and has Storm Drain, and Mega Diancie. The best moves are still Rock Slide only because it hits both opponents in doubles and can flinch and Accelerock. There is also a third good Rock move but that also has limited distribution. Other than that, Rock types really have nothing.

The whole thing with Aerodactyl not having access to any Rock moves in Gen1 is a good showcase of why I would love to see playthroughs from Gen4 onwards. You don't need to use Gen4 Pokemon only....use Gen1 Pokemon, but at least in later Gens (I'd say 4 onward), moves and such made a ton more sense.
Come to think of it, maybe a showcase like "Pokemon through the Generations" would be interesting. Like, what could a Pokemon, that was absolutely insane in Gen1 (Mewtwo) do in Gen 6, 7, 8 or soon 9? You know?

One thing that really stands out in your analysis is that you are often very aware of why you make certain mistakes. In your second round against Lorelei you explain both the gambler and sunk cost fallacies. (And it's very relatable, because who hasn't made those mistakes?)

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  Год назад

Yeah, I have to say, one thing I find difficult to explain is the psychological affect that filming and tracking 4 metrics has. I'm trying to sort of balance all 4. Win at a the lowest level possible, with the least real-time, without resetting. It fascinating to me how that can sometimes push me into decision making loops where I use inconsistent strategies or get stuck thinking something will work. If I favored game-time over real-time I think my play would look a lot different. When Jrose released Dugtrio the same day I released Diglett it was a really interesting opportunity to see how these two approaches make for a very different play experience. Hopefully one day I'll be able to summarize this better...

@@skeetermania3202 It's been a bit since I watched, but at one point he says that he continued trying a strategy against her because he had already spent enough time trying to make it work.
If a strategy sort of "locks you into" a certain course through the run (e.g., having to learn a TM early) then this makes sense. But if you're sticking with a losing strategy because all the time you've spent on it will feel wasted, then it's the sunk cost fallacy.

Aerodactyl was so scary and cool in the anime, I remembered that I always wanted it on my team, in crystal, but in red/blue/yellow, game freak was massing up rock, flying and bug types so much, that it hurts. 😔
Most of Aerodactyl's problems begins with it's horrible moveset, and the fact that the slow level up group was really making this playthrough, well.. Yeah.. really slow(yeah, I thought that you'd get a triple digit reset. Lorelei was brutal😅). Aerodactyl wishs it could get better like in gen 3.
But, you've managed to get by all of these hard obstacles one by one , and even cut the time that you've previously had, which is great 👏👏. Well done! 😊
I think that teaching fly was kind of liability, because you can't get rid of that for the rest of the run, even though it's one of your options for stab. Setting up toxic on problematic pokemon could have helped you(even though it's not that accurate but it's something, right?) , if you intend to use sky attack. While you are charging up the opposing pokemon loses 1/16 of it's hp at first,(even if you've missed the damage will increase anyway) which can help you one shot it, once you've taken too much damage use rest. Also you can pick up double edge from the rocket hideout, and that could have helped you with additional experience and with a more consistent Lorelei battle. Because it synergies well rest and you'd get extra power.
I think that using hm moves on a pokemon, that you'd do a run with, in gen 1(that is not surf taught to a water type pokemon ) is almost always not really a good option. Because you can only manage 3 moves out of your moveset, instead of all of them, and that can determine a run.

It always amazes me that Lorelei is consistently the hardest E4 member to beat. She’s the opposite of Bruno. Water/Ice only resists itself, and her Jynx has a suboptimal move set, but she gets so much mileage from her offences, that she can just wail on teams that can’t handle a specially defensive Dewgong, physically bulky Cloyster, and a well rounded Lapras. But great run, if Aerodactyl got some Rock and Ground moves the run would have been much smoother. Feels like Gen 4 where it gets Crunch, Fangs, etc. would be the best Gen for it.

I like how weird the trade off is between the OG games and the remakes with design decisions. Like, in the remakes, the trick question of Tombstoner being a rock move Brock has as his TM is more challenging due to Rock Tomb. But at the same time, stuff like Cubone being available to combat Gastly is better in the OG games because in the remakes the ghosts levitate.

For Pokemon with slow levelups, I wonder if you'd get better results by routing around stat experience gain. You could even target specific trainers based on what stats are more important for that particular run. Sweeping all those fighting types on Cycling Road would've been fast with flying stab and given a ton of attack exp for example.

    • @ScottsThoughtsPokemon
      @ScottsThoughtsPokemon  Год назад +2

I do think about this and try to do it, normally the route through the game is specifically rich in attack stat experience, so by default it gets well saturated.
