-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining

I remember buying Porygon in Blue version as a kid. When I finally did it, I wrote "I got a Porygon" on a wall in our house. My parents were furious. And puzzled.
Lol that’s great. I remember in my first run of Gold version I named the rival Jacka** and everytime my parents walked by when I battled him I would hide my GBC. I thought I was so slick
@@TheThrownOutSofa Hehe, I always named the rival for my brother. But, I always bought both versions from my allowance. My brother was allowed to play the inferior one, on condition that he make the choices I didn't and trade me over all Pokemon I needed for a complete Pokedex. I made it a point to give all the Pokemon I traded to his save rude names.
@@TheThrownOutSofa damn Jackass is nice. I always name my character in crystal Jack if I play male. And make something rude if read together with my name. Like my starter is Daniels, and the rival is "off" or "Off" is my starter and the rival is Daniels, but Ass fits perfectly into my scheme!
They were just jealous of your Porygon bro
@@Metalhammer1993 I see you doing the evil fingers like mr burns from the simpsons when you said it fits perfectly into your scheme… maybe throw in an evil laugh 😂😈
I want to see Scott added into the Pokemon anime where he just randomly shows up, running as fast as he can with a team consisting entirely of a caterpie or a pichu and he then just proceeds to beat the shit out of Ash in a battle before running off in a hurry
Not even Ash's pokemon, just Ash because he kinda deserves it
@@InfernosReaper but the brain damage might get worse then
or it'll fix it@@hibye-die
I always seem to forget that Golbat was originally a fully evolved pokemon, I'm so used to it being the middle stage
Lol until I saw the comments I forgot it had an evolution
Everyone: Crobat is the only thing that makes the Zubat line worth while
Scott: hold my emulator
I actually hate Crobat aesthetically compared to Zubat and Golbat, and I only use it for evolved stats and friendship
I don’t use it. I don’t like it. It’s design is dumb AF and doesn’t fit the line in the least.
Broke: Doing Crobat in GSC
Woke: Hacking in Crobat into Yellow and going for that resetless run.
Even more woke:
Doing a run on a Sanqui pokemon red rom, since you technically have Crobat in the pokedex there
That movepool in RBY would drive me... Batty
media.tenor.com/j4INb03ICqEAAAAM/horatio-cane-csi-miami.gif
Booo-oooh. That pun..... Bites.
@@aliasink7984 aha my apologies, I really bled that joke dry
Yes, Golbat's movepool in these early generations are rather... *anemic* ...compared to later games with better STAB moves.
"It's fine that we call her The Rapping Lass, The Rapping Junior Trainer Female is too long and her class was renamed anyway"
*Realizes that it wasn't renamed to lass, but rather to picnicker*
"Wait a minute"
But does Rappicnicker sound remotely as nice?
@@karotconcarne3325 honestly?? It sounds better!
@@bvd_vlvd Junior Trainer Female is also really awkward phrasing.
Bro really said "when his rock-hard snake releases it's pent up energy" with a straight face
The funny thing about Golbat being only slightly better than Meowth is, in competitive RBY battling, specifically using an alternative tiering system from Pokemon Perfect as opposed to Smogon, Golbat finds itself a solid threat in the "7U" tier (basically the lowest possible competitive tier), in which Meowth is apparently actually the tier's biggest threat. So yeah, I guess the two are about equally matched in more ways than one.
Whoa that’s so cool! Very interesting how they’re close with each other in two completely different rankings.
A fellow Big Yellow enjoyer!
29:51 In an alternate universe: "Heyy, pokemon masters, bird catcher Toby here!"
Scott: "The W/Rapping Lass"
Entire Pokemon Community: "Yes"
Golbat did surprisingly well for its shallow movepool and lack of a boosting move. It's clearly doing it's best for spooky season!
Whenever I replay Gen 1 I try to have one or two Pokémon on my team that I never ever used as a kid. When it came time to use the zubat line I was very very pleasantly surprised at how solid Golbat is. All the time I spent in my childhood just frustrated at the constant zubats interrupting my journey when I could have caught one and evolved it.
Had the same with Rattatta in gen2 used it first in a crystal nuzzlocke. Well a level 70 Ratticate does a LOT of damage against Red. It ended Pikachu and Espeon bevor laying down its life against Snorlax
That Bide and Leech Life interaction was something new to me. And I thought I knew about most quirks of Gen1 by now. Crazy, the "gift that keeps on giving" :D
level 69 at 69 minutes? Extra Nice
Edit: I've always enjoyed the interaction of the toxic, confuse ray, and fly combination with whatever flavor move you with in the 4th move slot. It's just the perfect combination of scummy while being consistent/entertaining. This results in me almost always finding a spot for this mon on my teams especially after they granted it the evolution to crowbat in the second generation.
Gen 1 toxic + leech seed was brilliant, they both advanced the toxic counter even though you can't use fly on those pokemon but it's just a really cool interaction
Wait fly but golbat cant learn fly is this another gen 1 thing
@@hibye-die by the time you obtain fly in gen2 you can easily already have a crobat, which can learn fly. Just realized with your comment that Golbat itself doesn't get fly as a usable move until gen 4. 🙄😓
@@ericwolf9664 I was talking about golbat I thought you were too because of the video
@@hibye-die I had presumed that since crobat got fly in gen 2 so did golbat which was a major oopsie on my part.
There really was potential with Golbat. That's why they gave it an evolution in gen 2.
just a quick comment to say i absolutely love the trend lately where you say "and if you've been listening in the background, look for a second" i think its a fun way to highlight a special moment in the run for someone like myself who does tend to listen with half a brain
A poison type in yellow? What could possibly go wrong, right?
I love the Zubat line and looking forward to this one. Golbat IS fast so hopefully he could outspeed at Kogas gym. That would help a lot. I haven´t seen Van Man´s video so I am going in blind. I will however afterwards.
Thank you Scott - as always!
Nothing could go wrong! It will be easy! Haha
Yeah, especially Kogas Electric/Ice venomoth could be dangerous
@@grundgutigertv6170 I thought venemoth was a flying ground type
@@colbycole871 depends on if you get the 1/256 chance of venomoth having its hidden ability color swap, which - in Gen 1 - changes both its typings to something random.
Scott: Let's reflect on the rival fight.
Me: You mean let's HYPER BEAM and MEGA DRAIN on the rival fight :).
Golbat is one of my favorite gen 1 pokemon. Looking forward to seeing it shine!
That was great! Also love your overlay, its like the best of all pokemon challenges ive seen so far, love it
Thanks Alex!
Golbat normally gets a rather poor reputation due to its weirdness in Gen1 and it being a middle evolution from Gen2 onwards, so it's nice to see Golbat get some real love and attention.
tbf in gen 6 and 7 he's a very solid threat because of defog and eviolite
That is good to know. Eviolite is such an interesting concept for an item.@@SonicEndouRed
The amount of game knowledge you bring to these videos is truly astounding.
The HUD for this video is 💯
Also, this is amazing. You're literally speed running the game with every pokemon, one by one. Fantastic idea
Yup :)
Hey, Scott. I randomly got recommend your Houndoom videos a week or two ago and I’ve really been enjoying your videos ever since. It’s just the kind of content I didn’t know I needed.
Glad you’re enjoying skeleton608!
I just want to say that im so glad that I subbed to you. I still remember your old Beedrill video and knew this was gonna be a great channel. Keep up the fantastic work Scott!
Thanks so much! Things have come along way since Beedrill!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Absolutely! I've been on this journey since the beginning and I love where it's going so far, keep doing your best and dont forget to pace yourself! Stay strong and keep being you!
I've rewatched this 3 times to make sure I didn't miss anything lol great stuff man good job
The fact that you rewatched this makes me really happy. I’m glad my work was enjoyable on repeat viewings!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon for sure bro! Thanks for the entertainment
Absolute masterclass in routing here. Very impressive, great video.
Thanks Wide Right! I'm proud of how this one went in the end, even though the perfection was tarnished slightly by Lance.
Golbat needed a little bit of help post-Gen 1, but there's a reason it's a member of the "Underrated Common Pokemon that We All Thought Sucked as Kids" Trio of Raticate, Tentacruel, and Golbat itself.
It's typing is insanely good defensively and it's movepool gets really ridiculous as time goes on. And because Zubat and Golbat are pretty easy to train, you get yourself a top tier playthrough support champion that can do a million different things for you and your team. Golbat is the defacto defense archetype of that aforementioned trio and I've had an appreciation for it ever since I started using it in my playthroughs as an adult. Golbat goes to show the kind of advantages a Pokemon can have during a playthrough as opposed to competitively.
And don't just take my word for it. Watch any Nuzlocke video and you will see just how valuable this thing is in almost every run I've seen online PERIOD. Bless up Golbat, you're really a badass and worthy Pokemon and I'm not surprised it did this well in your challenge.
I love your videos, please keep making them forever. They're great for easy listening like right now when I'm too sick to play games myself and just need something to pass the time. When I take medicine, I'm good for 4 hours, but can't take more for 6 hours, so I love saving your videos for the 2 hours where I can't have any medicine and I'm otherwise miserable and they're really saving me right now.
I'll keep making them as long as I can! (I'm not stopping anytime soon!) I'm sorry you're feeling so bad and that the medicine doesn't give you lasting relief. Sounds really awful. I'm glad my videos provide easy listening for you to pass the time with. Take care
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I'm just glad I've got a nice backlog of your videos to pass the time. Real neat to see how far your channel has progressed between your general game knowledge and the cool tech on screen to show stat boosts and stuff like that. I think that's really unique compared to other Pokemon youtubers, but yeah, your videos have been carrying me through the waiting period between reupping the medicine. I kinda wish I watched less of your videos when I wasn't sick so I'd have more to watch now, but ah well.
That’s a great way to summarize Scott: this was surprisingly good for a bath that should have been bad perfectly sums up Golbat’s run
Just got done with Vanman doing this, so can't wait to see the contrasts between the 2 styles and the 2 games
Yeah, it was really awesome seeing his approach to this Pokemon! So much different than mine.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Yeah, it's honestly amazing how different these runs can be. Pretty much the only runs that are going to be the same are ones with superpowered pokemon like Mewtwo or trashmon like Magikarp or Ditto(seriously, would it have killed them to let Ditto pick up Mimic?!)
I'm amazed at how well Golbat did in Yellow! it must be one of the few pokemon better suited for Yellow than Red or Blue version as VanMans video shocked me lol.
I wonder if because of it's performance compared to Meowth etc it might be why Gamefreak went ahead & gave it a third evolution line in the later gens as Crobat is a beast and was always a constant on my team when I was playing!
Great vid again Scott appreciate the work you put in and as always I enjoy a collab with VanMan too!
VanMan’s strat was so different than mine! I really want to try Wing Attack in RB at some point to be able to compare it to the screechlife strategy.
double feature!
Scott and Vanman Golbat goodness!
like I said on Vanman's video, thank you Scott for giving us a fun channel to allow us to get away from life's problem for a little while.
My pleasure!
If Golbat could learn Body Slam, I just imagine it glomps onto the opponent with their mouth. Not really biting but just wrapping their mouth around the other Pokemon. It would still be super weird though.
Now that was a great video- thank you very much for your work, scott :]
You're welcome daniel. Thank you very much for your comment :]
that second run was super amazing i think golbat def coulda snuck up a tier for that 1 reset run, anyways keep it up :3
Golbat's back sprite is way better than it's front sprite in the first game
Haha, "actual junior trainer"! Also, I love all the details of the routing and the little decisions!!
Glad you like the little details! Obviously I do too haha
A really impressive run! I love seeing the clean play you can pull out for these weaker Pokemon. Even with a huge limitation you can still make a really consistent run out of good routing, without having to really grind too much!
I guess it's gonna be pretty tricky ever getting a super consistent with an ice weakness, huh? Almost always gonna be at risk of ice Beam from the cloysters, Dragonair and Lorelei's team...
It’s not so much the ice weakness, it’s not being able to one hit the Pokémon that can freeze. Damage ranges against the Cloysters, Jynx, Lapras, Hitmonchan (yes the hiker’s Hitmonchan can freeze you), Dragonair 2, And Dragonite. If all these Lance’s Dragonair is the worst because so many Pokémon need to Mimic ice beam off of it which exposes them to a potential freeze.
It is really nice though when using a water type because Lance won’t ever go for the Ice move!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon mm I meant the ice weakness being a problem because of the way it causes the air to drop ice beams on you!
"Those of you with this on in the background look at the screen now".... I feel like I've been called out. Great run.
oh wow i had no idea hyper beam would improve the run so much! super interesting as always
I'm very glad I found a Pokemon that it makes sense on!
Unthinkable! Golbat fared so well, so well! I used to like it in the past, surprisingly!
great video again Scott can't believe it did so well
I absolutely love the memeing on venemoth lol every episode you get its types wrong and i love it
Electric / Psychic is pretty scary for Golbat to deal with.
Yeah I always hated that 50 coins per conversation with the clerk in the Game Corner (after tons of Elite Four playthroughs just to get enough to buy enough coins in the first place), it took ages to get a Porygon at 9999 coins. I was so glad they sped it up in second gen!
That Freeze against Dragonnair was so painful.
:(
Whoa that's pretty surprising! 75 Special being surprisingly good. Plus having Hyper Beam I think ended up being a really huge help for it. Most Pokemon have good enough movepools in some way that Hyper Beam isn't really worth the time investment needed, as you're taxed both on time getting the coins and on time picking up the items you need to afford the coins in the first place. But Golbat...yeah Golbat is rather dire.
Always impressed with how much your knowledge and ability with these games have grown. Even from what I started watching which wasn't too long ago, you've definitely gotten a lot better.
Thanks for the compliment regarding my play. I’ve been working hard to get better. Glad it’s visible.
Pokémon that benefit from hyper beam are strong physical attackers that do poorly using their normal movepool. For example, I think Beedrill is a good Hyper Beam candidate as well. Or Scyther!
I love that you named him Nosferatu. Makes me happy.
Absolutely! It’s so much better than the unoriginal “Batman” or “Nightwing”. (Now I gotta finish my current save with Batman12😂).
Good Luck Scott! You can do it !
I never thought of this before, but in his art, Blue is doing the "Well what is it?" emote from Dark Souls!
One of my favorite Pokemon! Have you seen Golbat in the Stadium games? It's legitimately cute. Especially how it rocks from side-to-side with its wings covering it like Dracula's cape.
the Zubat line's French names are actually based on Nosferatu but with altered endings. Nosferapti, Nosferalto and Nostenfer.
Amazing! I didn’t know that. Really cool.
As a fan of the Zubat line, I'm hoping to see Golbat achieve justice for Zubat and perform much better here. My expectation/hope is we'll be seeing Gen 1 Golbat's uniquely high Special stat get some usage in this playthrough. Mega Drain on it is a great counter to it's Rock weakness and a lovely recovery option.
4:14 - Supersonic is a confusion move that has been overbalanced whilst Confuse Ray is a confusion move that has no balance at all. The difference is stark and broken.
9:07 - I was going to joke that the Nidoran was out for revenge because you've yet to do a Nidoran video... except I then remembered that you have made one of those. I guess Nidoran just doesn't like Golbat... although it was technically Pidgey who caused you all the problems... and you haven't done a Pidgey solo run yet.
12:28 - I'm betting Nosferatu is envying it's pre-evolution's lack of eyes. All that sand in his beady eyes must be painful.
14:03 - To be fair, it also looks the artist combined a little element from the Lass trainer into the Rapping Lass design given the skirt is different to the other 14:40 Jr Trainer art that has been made.
24:14 - Convinced to train... or to buy a pair of go--goggles for your Pokémon.
28:55 - Blaine here looks like he is shouting at you because you forgot about him.
34:10 - So happy to see Mega Drain being used. It's a unique trait of Gen 1 Golbat that I sadly missed out on my last Pokémon Yellow playthrough due to my interactive audience voting to teach Weepinbell Mega Drain over Golbat.
55:02 - Poor Paras and Hitmonchan got dropped down that tier list hard. Glad to see Golbat placed well though. Turns out using it's giant gaping mouth to fire out laser beams is a useful tactic!
Hell yeah, my boi Golbat making the Crobat line proud!
Your ability to make these is incredible. With my own ADHD I would love to make my own videos but I am so slow and indecisive, It just made me realize I have lots to learn lol
Just look at my old videos. I was all over the place. The only way I actually get stuff done is my ultimate rule is "I release once a week... no matter what." I force myself to move fast enough and just get it done, even if it isn't perfect, and sometimes, even if I don't think it's good.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I know you pain mom frere! I feel the same about my videos although it’s been a long time since I posted any new music
Wow, that was amazing! I'd never thought that golbat will do a no resets run. I mean, golbat in gen 1😊,that means that you're an amazing player! Well done!
That 2 minutes at the game corner has saved you a lot of resets, at the end😁, so thanks for doing this to make golbat an A tier pokemon. 😀
I know that this menu can very very tedious, that one of the mechanics that I hate about gen 1. So i can only imagine how long it took, and how fast did you want to get thorough that. 😁So I really appreciate that!
Besides, thanks for uploading twice this week, you're incredible! 👏👏👏Keep up the good work!
Smooth editing on the cycling road training !
Thanks! I think Shawn did that edit? He probably deserves the credit for it. We edit so much footage every week it all just blurs together!
bro your vids are so good now!
Thanks bro!
54:20 diff of -2 levels on de 2nd run??? Guess that was a small mistake..
Great video still. Loved seeing Gobat doing great! Keep up the good work
We do a lot proofing but mistakes always slip by. It is an endless frustration for me haha
Hey Scott I love the nick name this time and the explanation was hilarious 😂
I thought you would name it Alucard or Dr. Acula but it think you made the right choice can't wait for a Crobat run in Gen 2 or Gen 3
Thank You for the content your work is appreciated
I wish you good luck and success in all aspects of life
I think he named his Zubat alucard
Psychic/Ice Venomoth… ooooo.. scary typing my friend, stay safe out there!
I'm only just seeing this, I didn't get a notification. I'll definitely watch the whole thing after while.
I always love to see hyper beam come in clutch in a run!

Scott, and Vanman doing Golbat videos on the same day!!!
Happy Halloween!
We love the rapping lass, just like we love your videos, mate.
Awww thanks so much
It's so fucked that Pidgey and Spearow can learn Fly but Golbat can't
Indeed. And in Yellow they have Charizard Fly. They could have given it to Golbat then too.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon they don't give Golbat Fly until *Gen 4* lol

Letting Sabrina's Abra hit you with flash for badge boosts is so big brain. Like, go get yourself some ice cream. You deserve it.
My fiancé will be excited about the ice cream :)
I am so happy that I predicted the use of Hyperbeam.
BTW about Golbats Special stat, in my latest playthrough of Gold I used a Crobat and it`s Giga Drain was really useful despite it´s Sp Atk. stat actually being lower in Gen 2...
I love how often we just don't talk about Bruno in Kanto
How did I miss this? Ill be watching soon!

Scott: This thing should learn to slam with its feet or something.
Me: But then it wouldn't be Body Slam, it would be Footy Slam :)
Otherwise known as "Stomp".
I love Golbat, especially the weird tongue sprite; it had it in Stadium too! Also, weird with it having the generic monster party sprite
Thanks for everything man
You're welcome man!
Golbat is one of those mons that really surprise me whenever I decide to use it. Like, yeah, training it at the start of the game as Zubat makes it rather painful, because it doesn't learn good moves (though I guess in Gen1, that doesn't apply) but after that, it's surprisingly decent. In Gen1, Confuse Ray + Screech are kind of neat, plus Mega Drain deals with Rock. Then in Gen2 (where I used it the most) it usually ends up being a really nice flinch mon with Headbutt, Bite and Confuse Ray. Toxic also helps. Good budget mon for sure.
That freeze sucked hard though. Regardless, a great showing!
Yeah, that freeze was heartbreaking. Oh well!
Ooh, Golbat! I love Golbat and especially Crobat. I've named many of them in my time, but my favorite nickname is from Platinum. I named it "Noxurne", a portmanteau of sorts; like "nocturne" but with an x to represent the cross shape of Crobat.
Noxurne is an awesome Crobat name!
Maybe I'll name mine Nocturne (I love Chopin's Nocturne's after all...)
We all know the Rapping Lass’s stage name is “Jr Trainer,” but she’s still a Lass.
Exactly
In gen 1 its got some ok stats distribution, but that move pool..... more like a move puddle.
This will be interesting to see how you work this playthrough Scott.
Move puddle. That’s perfect.
Nosferatu is very close to it’s french name, which is Nosferalto. I used to live in France at the time RSE and FR/LG came out
Hey Scott, everything for me is starting to get back to normal again. This is the first video I've watched in a while and as always excellent quality, I'm really glad you redid the tier list. I've got a lot to catch up on so you'll see a ton of comments from me coming up soon!!!
Glad to hear everything is getting back to normal for you. I'll look forward to your comments as you catch up!
I had Crobat once and I loved it. Though I do wonder how Golbat will perform here. So watching :)
Of corse the dome fossil is the correct choice for a speedrun. It's 1 character shorter, saving time on those two text boxes which clearly saves more time than the zigzag walk costs.
Ahhh yes. That makes so much sense.
Defensively speaking, Flying/Poison typing has a good set of resistances and immunities to work with.
Not in this game, though.
This was batshit insane
Golbat cool AF, second favorite Mon after hypno
Gotta say, I always thought Golbat's Yellow sprite looks like its either dancing, or drunk. XD
5:57 with the exception of that first attempt, the battle was easy-peasy!
8:21 Who knew this unassuming Nugget Bridge Lass would be such a boss?
10:11 I'm a bit surprised that Golbat managed to streamroll Misty.
14:02 Oh crap, I never noticed that until you pointed it out. I mean, I did notice that the artwork wasn't a Lass, but still. (Besides, Wrapping Lass sounds better) XD
14:40 Maybe the Status Condition Jr. Trainer is secretly a Lass in disguise.
23:28 Congrats on just barely defeating the Tamer! I almost thought you weren't gonna make it.
26:36 Wow, talk about cutting it close there.
32:18 That was super clutch against Arcanine!
52:25 Who would've thought that Golbat could pull off the legendary--OH YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!!
I can't believe you almost made it to zero resets! Of course Lance had to stop you in your tracks... Still, Golbat's run was quite impressive, especially when compared to Zubat. Congrats!
Ooooh this followed by VanMan, should be good should be good!
It's going to be a Golbat filled day!
Whenever I see someone buying coins I'm reminded of a Glitch less Pokedex run Shenanigans did where he did a Pokemon Yellow Any% run as he bought coins for Porygon.
Yup! Takes forever
Gen 1 Golbat will be a very interesting run as it has a bad move pool and poison types are generally bad in Gen 1
I feel like bad is an understatement. It's movepool is terrible.
Missingno run, with Halloween drawing near its now or never! Though you probably already have planned and probably recorded what's cominh next lol.
I feel so judged! Lmao. I watch in the background because I have to study
Don’t feel judged! This is the best way to watch imo :)
Great run scott may i suggest a fun themened race sandslash vs persian ^^
