  • Playthrough Rules:
    1. Only my starter in battle
    2. No items in battle*
    3. No glitches or exploits*
    4. No Double-Team TM before level 100*
    Other rules:
    -- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
    -- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
    -- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed

    -- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
    -- Skipping the bike is not allowed
    -- Saving between league members is allowed
    -- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
    *Double-Team:
    -- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
    -- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
    -- Using it would centralize the meta
    -- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
    -- It raises evasion
    -- It triggers the badge boost
    -- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
    -- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
    -- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
    -- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
    -- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
    -- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu

    I love the small details of the pokemon getting all busted up on the side when they're in a bad spot in battle. It's almost unnoticeable but adds to the personality of your videos.
    The fact that you basically begin your videos by explaining how much you love the pokemon you're running with / how you initially disliked it and ended up falling in love with it shows how much of yourself you put into these.
    The quality of life of having the in-game time, stats, moveset and movepool on the side is so great as well. Overall very agreable to watch and/or listen to.

You can tank big hits fine, so letting your opponent knock themselves out at the problematic mons so you can worry about only the scrubs on their respective teams would’ve saved turns and HP. Against Surge most of all since it’s one mon with three particularly hard-hitting attacks.

    Koffing leads to my fav pokemon, Weezing. I'm not a pot head, I just like the idea of having a weezing that spews clean air like in it's original dex entries. Then it got a Galar form! Plus James' in the anime was great

      Weezing is also my favorite Pokemon. Not the Galar form, but that one does look really cool though. But OG weezing is SO good with held items - black sludge+levitate+protect+toxic+flamethrower+sludge bomb is so good. Maybe there are more optimized sets, but I enjoy playing it like that.

    I'm pretty sure "Body Slam" is just bad translation, in Japanese, it's called "Lean on", with the full move description as "The user drops onto the target with its full body weight. It may also leave the target with paralysis."
    So apparently Koffing cannot drop onto the opponent with its full body weight I guess, since it's portrayed as constantly floating (it has the levitate ability after all).
    But this doesn't really explain why Drowzee and Hypno can't learn but Rattata and Pikachu can learn.
    Pokemon logic is just weird.
    Also, according to this description, the power of the move should be determined by weight, right? I'm pretty sure it's gonna feel very different to be smacked by a Rattata and a Snorlax.

    • @HighPriestFuneral
      @HighPriestFuneral Год назад +3

      You bring up a good point. Koffing weighs only 2.2 lbs. It's a balloon, basically. filled with noxious gas. Even Pikachu and Rattata can put a force into their slam, but I guess a sentient poisonous balloon can manage is to tackle.

    • @hhjan594
      @hhjan594 Год назад +1

      @@HighPriestFuneral This is actually an issue with some other moves (or abilities) that the meaning easily gets lost in translation, or sometimes there's just not really a cool enough name for it in another language. Body Slam sounds like a very sick and powerful move, but you wouldn't imagine it as slamming your whole body by using your weight on top of your opponent just by looking at this name (which is what exactly you would imagine from its Japanese name).
      Like there's this move called "Assist", it's literally called "Cats paw" in Japanese, hence it's only learned by cat Pokemon. The concept of this move is based on the Japanese slang "You need a cat to lend you a hand (paw)", which means that you are so screwed up that whoever can help you in this situation you will just take it. That's why this move randomly picks a move in your party because you are willing to accept whatever help you can get in this situation. You really can't get the whole picture of this move just by the translated name "Assist". This is a kind of limitation of translation and it's really not easy to avoid in some situations.

    • @dakotashroom5401
      @dakotashroom5401 Год назад +1

      Koffing is full of gas that causes it to float. Since it is full of gas it doesn't have a high weight.

    • @iantaakalla8180
      @iantaakalla8180 Год назад +1

      @@hhjan594 Perhaps the move Assist should be called “Cat’s Pick”, which can play off the capriciousness cats have in general to those that do not know that and is probably a universal experience, and that capriciousness manifest in a random move chosen.
      Of course, that then ruins non-cat Pokémon, but hopefully by then “Cat’s Pick” is ingrained enough to be a metaphor for picking a random move.
      However, Body Slam should stay the same despite it being given to Pikachu specifically because a Body Slam feels more likely to be done by heavy Pokémon or fast, quick Pokémon.

    My first nuzlocke was with Pokémon Blue and it was quite the success with only 2 deaths. Sandman the Hypno absolutely leveled Koga’s gym. My second nuzlocke was with Pokémon Red. Koga did not go quite so smoothly. I lost a fully Amnesiaed Stace the Snorlax to a Psychic crit from the 38 Hypno Juggler and the favorite of the run Sirius the Arcanine to Weezing’s self-destruct… I’m glad you love it Scott because I have a feeling Sirius will get the last laugh when Growlithe gets its play through!

    Didn't use the Koffing line myself ever, but my first copy of Red was used and had a (presumably completed) save file already on it with one of the more peculiar casual teams I've seen. I still remember it nearly twenty years later.
    It was Pidgeot, Haunter, Kadabra, Aerodactyl, Raichu... and Weezing. No starter. More so this inspired my adoration of the Ghastly line and Aerodactyl but I remembered Weezing pretty well too and was in awe as it was one of the first Pokemon I ever used or interacted with.

    As a younger person (14) I really wanted weezing, arbok, or muk on my team. But sandslash is my favourite so that ruled out arbok. I tried a few runs with koffing and grimer on the team, but they never contributed much due to the poor move sets. I really hope arbok gets an upgrade soon, maybe a dual ground or electric typing.

    Boy, this one was painful. There have been some rough runs, but this one just felt icky throughout (maybe appropriate for a poison type named Stinky). In the past even rough runs had some smooth patches but this one just felt like a slog no matter what.

    I've been watching jrose for a little while now and so finding you is such a gem. Your videos have a similar feel to his but are still unique to you. Other youtubers that run through solo challenges just have something about them that makes me not usually like their videos enough to watch through the entirety of it and I still can't put my finger around what it is but I don't have the issue with your vids 👍

    Also, I love the little face change on Koffing during the Brock knockout. That's really neat attention to detail :)
    Back to actually watching the video, thank you for your time \o/
    Edit: KOFFING IS SO HAPPY TO BEAT BROCK, I love it
    Edit 2: To answer the question: Nope, aside from loving how Arcanine looked, I basically went with everything Psychic, because I realized how powerful the typing was. Mewtwo, Jinx, Exeggecutor, Alakazam were the mainstays of my Pokémon Stadium completion. I didn't realize until I was way older, how adorable Grimer looked... And Koffing, because... Look at that smile on the left side of the video :)
