Mine was a Marowak in FireRed as well. Neither myself or cousin knew what it was so I caught it anyway. Didn't learn about shinies until much later on in life lol
I'd really like to see a houndour run of crystal. It's one of those unfortunate johto pokemon that are locked away in kanto, and it has pretty good stats and moves. It starts with ember and gets bite relatively quickly, later on it naturally learns both flamethrower and crunch. Faint attack is there too for all those annoying evasion strat pokemon. I'm surprised and happy that the channel has grown so fast with just one type of content, great job scott!
@@7deuc2e38 Tyranitar is a beast so delaying it until the final battle feels justified. The other dark type lines probably should have been given to the player sooner though.
1: All you had to do was say “Metronome” and I instantly predicted that you blew yourself up at least once. 2: I have never seen the back Sprites of either Pokémon until now. Very striking due to the color palette. 3: 23:45 I never realized that until you pointed it out. If memory serves, you would have been stuck with wing attack permanently. Mimic can cause you to learn new permanent moves if a pokemon switches out while it's being used.
Scott thank you for your continued dedication and passion for all things pokemon. Every time one of your videos come out its clear how much these games mean to you. I had the worst day of my life yesterday and my life is in total shambles. Watching this video made me forget about all my problems for brief time. Thank you.
The Mimic thing when the opposing trainer switches out is a known glitch, yes - If I remember correctly, it didn't just replace your Psychic with Wings Attack during this fight, it actually would be a permanent change to your moveset. So probably a good thing you reset
Personally I think seeing your first tries and watching you figure out the strategy is my favorite part. I feel like I’m experiencing the game myself. So in that sense I like your other videos more. But still, this is really well done and it’s clear you’re getting even better, always psyched to see a new upload from you, thanks for continuing to put out awesome videos
Thanks for the feedback Ayrton Kinner and Yr Anghenfil, I'll consider this going forward. I'm thinking of live streaming the first playthroughs in the future so people can follow along with me as I figure stuff out and then making a produced video of my results. Trying to find a way that I will be happy with the video months in the future instead of looking back and cringing haha.
I remember playing blue as a kid. I beat the Pokemon League, caught Mewtwo and truely believed after soloing the league that Mewtwo was untouchable. Then my dad is like hey, what's that pokemon you think is unbeatable. Mewtwo why? No reason. How about a battle. Sure dad...sends out Cefable. I laugh my head off not knowing the horror in store for me. He proceeds to mop the floor with me. He only raised Clefable, had it at level 85, Body Slam, Thunderbolt, Bubble beam, Psychic. Holy crap...he swept my team ith little resistance and my Mewtwo was broken that day. He still brings that up and it has been 23 years lol. We didn't have all the information about the attack power, etc so he kept Bubble beam instead of using surf, etc. Crazy power with body slam. Paralyze, tank the psychic from Mewtwo and just chop away. Good memories 😊
Clefable doesn't learn Surf, so Bubblebeam is its best water type option. It's the one "weakness" it has once more TMs become available (though Bubblebeam tends to shred well enough thanks to the 4x damage on most Gen1 Rock types). Still, that's kinda wholesome :)
Can't see a Clefable beating a Mewtwo unless it was underlevelled or you were a kid and played it like I would have as a kid (ie poorly)....? Either way, I am jealous of you for having a dad into pokemon enough to raise a Clefable to 85!
I suffered a Hemiplegic Migraine last night and had to spend my entire day in bed. I was thinking a Pokémon challenge could make my day and saw this was uploaded.
Clefable is well known for being one of the best in-game Pokemon. Early evolution, solid stats, and can learn thunderbolt, icebeam, and psychic. Nidoking and Nidoqueen are also known, for the same reasons.
Seeing you pull apart the code to prove that Double Team and Minimize activate the BBG was awesome! Major props for proving something most of us never thought about.
All hail Clefable, the new queen of yellow! I guess normal typing, fast exp curve, amazing moveset, lots of health, enough speed, and great coverage. I figured it would do well, but I didn't expect it to do quite this well!
The problem with Wigglytuff is that it only has good Hp. It would need Chansey's skill in that it has one other good stat to show how good that hp is. But no, they did Wigglytuff dirty. The only advantage is the wide movepool. And it's hard to take advantage of when you don't have the stats to support it. Love Wiggly, but man it needs something to make it stronger.
I think Wigglytuff got a LOT better after the Special split, making it a weird slow glass cannon with lots of HP but taking lots of damage in return. The increase in Special Attack makes it a lot more reliable and incredibly offensively versatile thanks to its movepool, so when you do play other gens consider giving the fat pink fluff with impeccable hair another shot!
I know for a fact accuracy and evasion moves effect the badge boost glitch. When I was younger, I would max out my Pikachu's evasion with double team, and notice it hit rock pokemon harder. This was years before it was known as the badge boost glitch. I just assumed "more Pikachus must be hitting Onix, so that must be why my attacks are hitting harder." I never assumed other stats would do that too because I never needed to max something out, and if I did, it's usually Amnesia Mewtwo that one-shot everything anyway. Once I saw the jrose videos bringing it up, I remember thinking "... Is that what that was?"
I remember way back when, reading gamefaqs and people talking about an opponent lowering defense and the pokemon hitting a little harder, calling it the revenge factor. I'm sure this was before the glitch was figured out.
Scott, I'd like to thank you for these calming Pokemon run videos. Last year, I was having a rough go of it and needed a colonoscopy to see if I was doing well with my gut health. I was so hungry the day before the liquid diet that I was nauseous, so I ate a bunch of food and had to focus on SOMETHING to keep it all down. Your Gengar v Alakazam video and its long run time did the trick and I was able to make it through the night and find out I'm in good health a couple days later. I always wanted to thank you for helping me through that hour of nausea hunger until I was able to sleep.
For what it's worth, I hadn't thought of Giovanni's name meaning either. I always thought it was just a cool Italian mobster name. As a kid, I remember using Clefairy and Clefable quite a lot. They always seemed very special even before learning they were actually good. I'm glad you're doing these videos and bringing so much out of the Pokemon you feature. It's something I look forward to, and clearly I'm not alone :)

When you say you will never do another run with Wigglytuff, I flash back to one of my first challenges where I used Jigglypuff and was filled with nothing but regret.
Shoutout to Denis. Thinking about you a lot recently. but really Scott this was so well put together. Congrats on 30k! 50k will be here before we know it.
Jigglypuff is one of those Pokémon that's doomed to only be good in series that aren't Pokémon (i.e., Melee). I just about cried when I found it on my LeafGreen nuzlocke lmao
Nice runs, tip: with these diverse move pool types, it's sometimes faster to teach water gun & keep it a bit. After rock tunnel, if available, ice beam is better. More often then not, water gun is sufficient for everything up until celadon. Saving the bubblebeam tm cam prove faster. Using ice beam for Erika, replace with bubblebeam for rock types / Blaine / Giovanni, replace with blizzard after with it's massive power & decent acc. Leaves an open slot for defense curl / rest / reflect throught playthrough. Thanks for your vids. Always a treat to watch.
Wow Scott you were very bold comparing these two! But it was fun anyway, after all Wigglytuff has also, like Clefable, a very good move pool, I guess Wigglytuff could even put up a fight, despites Clefable's special advantage! Great job Scott! Congratulations for one more good job! Clefable really conquered it's place, wow!
The GEOvanni part kinda makes sense when you see it that way, I've never thought about that, although if you assume Giovanni to be italian then 'Gio' would be pronounced like 'Jo' in Joseph
I will be pleasantly surprised if Wigglytuff wins but I'm expecting Clefable... even more so after seeing their stat differences. I didn't realise Clefable had so much Attack and such a big difference in base stat compared to Wigglytuff. Funny and interesting video here; the fact that both these cutesy Pokémon worked best with brute force strategies during a good chunk is hilarious. Your freeze luck was great and the early game Metronome always ensures a good laugh.
I'm new to the channel here, so this may get lost in all the comments, but I wanted to say that you have great content and I really enjoy watching and listening to it. You're extremely thorough and well spoken, but keep the runs fun. All in all I love it, keep them coming!
Hey Zero! Your comment will not be lost! The balance between fun, entertaining, and informative is an aspect of these videos that I put a lot of thought into. I’m glad it’s making them enjoyable for you! (The content will keep coming!)

I reckon that Giovanni being "Geo" as a ground type trainer is as much a coincidence as it is anything... or late 90s Gamefreak might be ingenius and you clever for catching on. As always, great video!
Clefaible is actually rly good, espacially in Gen1 due to its pretty good special. I had a Normal-Type Nuzlocke and thought it was over when after Victory road only Clefaible was left. Then I singlehandedly first-tried the Elite 4 with it and its moveset of STAB Strengh, Icebeam, Sing and Minimize, such a champ
Did you know the pokemon red/blue TAS used to catch Clefable? It was because of how absurd it was its level up and normal STABs and coverage. Then it uses Tauros because of fissure and horn drill.
@@critormiss6084 Indeed it does. It also manipulates RNG for 1/256 misses and only get the desired encounters. Again, Clefable is absurd and he only picked Tauros due to OHKO moves. In short, Clefable always has been at least respectable and it's no wonder why it's a monster now that it has a great hability and defensive typing alongside its signature versatility.
@@N12015 it's actually broken in competitive sometimes even banned because of the stored power strategy, where it sets up n stored power does damage based on how many modifiers you have Also it has magic coat making it immune to hazards

Also excited for the inevitable eeveelutions video and legendary birds
I haven’t started the video yet but dude congratulations on 30k subscribers!! It’s going fast now! You totally deserve it! I’m looking forward how this video will end. My guess is clefable
Petal Dance for the win! That alone should’ve been a hint that Clefable was going to clean house. Wigglytuff becomes a Normal/Fairy type in Gen-6. As for NOT doing a complete Clefable play through with Metronome… I don’t blame you.
I started following you maybe a month ago, and I wanna say your videos are top notch! Your recent ones have really taken a step up in gameplay and production value, and I can't wait for more! 0.+ 6
The biggest thing I took away from this is that Clefable is apparently really good in Gen1, huh. I always thought its claim to fame (and infamy) started when it got the Fairy typing and became a competitive menace, but I guess not. That's really cool. Also, I recently started a Gen2 solo run with Tauros thanks to these videos. It's an interesting time to be sure.
Legit only started watching you because you pick the superior Dome Fossil over every other RUclips who always picks lord helix ugh. I’m impressed with how much effort you put in to these videos. Thank you. You make my week better.
I didn’t expect it to be a sub 1 hour run! I’ve never used any of these two mons ever in a playthrough. Maybe I should give Clefable a try. Great video again as usual! Thanks for your determination and hard work!
Thought I'd mention that in gen 1 OU competitive; Clefable does actually have a unique talent that makes it kinda interesting. It's completely unwallable. You see when running Blizzard and Thunderbolt, as well as Thunderwave you can either Cripple or threaten almost everything, if only Chansey wasn't everywhere to stop you, well that's where MEGA KICK comes in! Mega kick is pretty much the only advantage that Clefable has to Chansey, and it actually enables it to threaten Chansey and Alakazam which usually would wall it! Wigglytuff gets the same move too, but it's special is so low that it doesn't really threaten anything else besides by useing Mega kick.
Instead of “Believe”, you should’ve used “Faith”! “Hope” W.tuff does well vs. having “Faith” Clefable would win! (Plus, “Faith” is close to “Fairy”) Oh well, shoulda, woulda, coulda. Great video like usual!
If I had to take a guess, Wigglytuff was designed to be bad. Clefairy was supposed to be the series mascot, so the Jigglypuff line would be the jealous moon rabbit rival to the moon fairy. Makes sense that Clefairy would evolve into the better of the two.
Clefairy was the original mascot, before they changed it last minute to pikachu. Which makes Jigglypuff the jealous moon rabbit/balloon rival to the moon fairy. As for Chansey, it's different enough in concept to just be inicidentally similiar IMO.
Throw some Mega Punches like our pink pals! You’ll be a champ in no time! Also, don’t worry about trying to Minimize yourself, just do what makes you feel good!
Scott, you seemed to really enjoy Clefable. I would suggest looking up the Clefable speedrun route. You might be able to punch that time even lower! If not, there's a lot of tricks that Speedrunners use that would come as a great use to you!

Wigglytuff's: WHAT THE HECK IS THAT THING.
Clefable is great with cosmic power and stored power in later gens have anyone tried unbound 2.0 insane it was hard
Clefable has a lot of useful sets, my favorite is Unaware wall.
Minimize calm mind stored power moonlight destroys everything that’s not a dark type
I'll be sure to use steel and dark types then
@@derekfung6190 Dark is weak to Fairy
Tried unbound, it's fun but difficult.
Also does the one thing I've wanted, keeping alot of the fun "gimmics" of older games.
BubbleBeam is pretty bad against Blaine… at least that’s been my experience with it. Anything that’s STAB generally does better there.
Lmao porygon vid was up for 10 mins I added it to my watch queue but by the time I got to it it had been taken down, rooting for you Scott!
Soon!
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon well the effort shows and I really hope everyone else is enjoying them as much as I am
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon hey Scott, I purposely chose an old video and an old comment in hopes of you seeing this. But I just wanted to say that I have so much love and so much respect not only for you and your content, but for the fact that I have yet to see a single poketuber put in the effort and dedication you do. I've watched your channel come so far, and I can truly say that you've become my favorite channel. I wish you would live steam to accept donos or take super chats. Thank you so much
I remember thinking that Clefable must have been one of the rarest Pokemon just because of how long it actually took me to find a Clefairy. I actually ran it in my first team up until I caught Snorlax.
Yeah, Snorlax is a beast!
I have offically watched all your gen 1 content twice. Cannot get enough of it. Thank you for the content. These games were a critical part of my childhood, so I deeply appreciate seeing them being played and abused. They deserve it after all.
More gen1 stuff coming soon for you! Krabby tomorrow
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Thank you, for replying. I comment often just for the sake of human interaction. It is deeply appreciated, and I hope somewhere you understand you are making a difference beyond just the videos. I have had one of the worst months of my life, and frankly (to dump in an obsure comment section) your content does more good for my mental health than my therapist. anyway. Cheers Scott.
Red’s mum: Your pink Pokémon are adorable! But do you really think these cute Pokémon will make you a champion?
Red: Yeah, in like an hour. I mean, “…”.
Would be interested in a Vileplume vs Victreebel video :D
“How will they fare against the four strongest trainers and the world’s worst hiker?” - wow, that’s an incredible diss to Bruno 😂
The "Geovanni connection" blew my mind. I never thought of that!
This solo runs really show why pokemon is the most marketable franchise, its just the same thing over and over again with slight changes and its still so entretaining
It's incredible how creative the people of the Pokemon community are. They never seem to run out of ideas to enjoy this game in different ways
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I mean. You could play the newer versions.
I reckon that Giovanni being "Geo" as a ground type trainer is as much a coincidence as it is anything... or late 90s Gamefreak might be ingenius and you clever for catching on. As always, great video!
what a time to be alive where scott slaps brock's snake until his pp is depleted
Bro the Petal Dance on Brock was clutch haha! Epic tale you need to tell you grandchildren!
So true!
I... I totally knew the Geo-vani thing... I definitely did not learn that because you said it in the video...
Did you know the pokemon red/blue TAS used to catch Clefable? It was because of how absurd it was its level up and normal STABs and coverage. Then it uses Tauros because of fissure and horn drill.
I did! So cool. Funnily enough, I watched a video about it while I was working on this video.
I assume as a TAS it manipulates the RNG to ensure the OHKO moves always hit?
@@critormiss6084 Indeed it does. It also manipulates RNG for 1/256 misses and only get the desired encounters. Again, Clefable is absurd and he only picked Tauros due to OHKO moves.
In short, Clefable always has been at least respectable and it's no wonder why it's a monster now that it has a great hability and defensive typing alongside its signature versatility.
@@N12015 it's actually broken in competitive sometimes even banned because of the stored power strategy, where it sets up n stored power does damage based on how many modifiers you have
Also it has magic coat making it immune to hazards
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon I am interested in modern starmie vs cloyster
I got an interesting versus idea
Machamp vs poliwrath (Bruno would actually be decent if he used poliwrath instead of an onix)
Or poliwrath vs tentacruel
Sees Bruno tier with a spaghetti monster
Slapping Brock's Snake is quite the occupation.
Venomoth's typing is hard to remember until your realize that it's the only fairy type in gen 1.
Been binging your videos the past week and a half and absolutely love them! I know in the past, you were looking for something that could go head to head with Primeape, and I think Marowak would be a good fit for that as they both evolve at the same level with one being faster and the other more tanky. Also excited for the inevitable eeveelutions video and legendary birds
I think I want to pair Marowak with Sandslash... but I'm not sure yet. I'll consider it with Primeape.
Thanks for another great comparison video! Love these!
Idea do a umbreon vs espeon in silver, gold, or crystal
Yeah this is a good idea.
Hmm gonna say espeon may be quicker but umbreon has a phenomenal typing in gen 2 and can survive most anything.
Took me over 15 years to think of the Giovanni name thing too lol
I also miss your gen 2 vids a bit, no rush though
Patience is a virture. I have good things planned for gen 2.
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon yay 8D
Clefable is my favorite Pokemon. ♥ Love that you did this. Keep up the awesome content!
I will Ian!
Honestly the way they did Wigglytuff's Stats was an injustice because Clefable barley changes
Great content and videos! Glad to see these challenge videos!
I started following you maybe a month ago, and I wanna say your videos are top notch! Your recent ones have really taken a step up in gameplay and production value, and I can't wait for more!

Can’t wait to show the next step up in production! (It’s coming in a few months!!)
Love watching these just before bed! Thanks Scott ❤️
30k, Scotty 🙌🏼👏🏼 Incredible. I remember back when you had 30 subscribers 😅 Hopefully, more to come.
Me too. I'm humbled Mohammed, I never thought this many people would watch my stuff. Thanks for being there celebrating these milestones with me!
I've never been present right as a video dropped before. Feeling wiggly with anticipation
You forgot to mention that Wiggytuff becomes a dual Normal/Fairy type in gen VI onward
Clefable started being an unremovable pink blob in gen 4
Legit only started watching you because you pick the superior Dome Fossil over every other RUclips who always picks lord helix ugh. I’m impressed with how much effort you put in to these videos. Thank you. You make my week better.
I didn’t expect it to be a sub 1 hour run! I’ve never used any of these two mons ever in a playthrough. Maybe I should give Clefable a try.
Great video again as usual! Thanks for your determination and hard work!
I thought it was going to be like 1:01 or something. Clefable is surprisingly good.
Whenever he says to brute force it he just reminds me of how I played when I was a kid.
That’s really interesting! Thanks for sharing Clefable’s unique competitive niche!
Instead of “Believe”, you should’ve used “Faith”! “Hope” W.tuff does well vs. having “Faith” Clefable would win!
(Plus, “Faith” is close to “Fairy”)
Oh well, shoulda, woulda, coulda.
I legit think Clefable, Wigglytuff and Chansey were the same Pokémon, and they divided It in 3 Pokémon
The hiker joke made me laugh out loud, gotta love those
I have idea for a matchup: Jessie vs James, the legendary rocket grunt Duo face off to see who can become Champion.
If we can't capture pikachu, we'll steal your dream instead!
