    Rules and Explanations
Rules: (1) Only use the one Pokémon in Battle, others for HMs are fine. (2) No Items in battle (3) No Glitches* (4) Set Mode (5) No saving in the Elite Four (6) No evasion moves
Badge Boost "Glitch" Explanation: When you collect odd numbered badges the game boosts a stat by 12.5%. Brock gives ATK, Surge DEF, Koga SPE, and Blaine SPC (in game text is wrong). When any of your stats are modified (even by you using a move like Withdraw, or your opponent using Leer) the badge boosts are re-applied. So If you use Swords Dance, you also gain *an additional 12.5% in Speed/Defence/Special (on top of the 12.5% you were supposed to be getting). When you level up, the game corrects this error, and only the non-glitch 12.5% remains. Because of how difficult it is to avoid, I've allowed for it to be exploited, since opponents will spam Leer/Growl anyways, and this way battles are less random. Red/Blue are extremely buggy, so there's always going to be some glitches present, and because of how unavoidable this one is, it is allowed in runs, and considered more like a special Generation 1 mechanic as opposed to a glitch.

In relation to the dual-Pokémon/single-Pokémon episode question, I much prefer single episodes. The Nidoran double header was fine, but the separate videos for Nidoqueen and Nidoking are the way to go.

I think jrose has it right, the nidos were made to be basically identical and it makes sense to directly compare the small details and I think the mid evos could easily share a vid but the final evos are different enough in approach and moveset that they deserve their own videos

The problem with doing them separately is that whichever one goes second has an advantage. I don't think JRose would've taught Blizzard at the end if it wasn't for the Nidoking run for example. Proteins were also a huge mistake with the King as EQ can one shot almost everything it's used for anyways.

Poliwhirl: Is faster, learns Amnesia and Hydro Pump
Poliwrath: More BST (but sadly a lot of it in Atk and Defense, two less useful stats), has bodyslam from the beginning and not from the S.S. Anne - but doesn't learn any additional TMs because even Poliwhirl learns earthquake and submission.
Poliwrath's additional fighting type gives it:
additional resistances to bug, dark and rock... when you basically never meet rock and bug type moves and dark type moves don't exist. Not to mention you should be able to wash away any rock type move user anyways.
A fighting STAB, a type useful against normal, rock, ice, steel and dark... of which two don't exist yet, one can be dealt with water moves, and ice is solely used by Lorelei, and the fighting type move it can use is submission, which is just horrible.
It also gains 3 weaknesses, flying (which is ok aside from champ's pidgeot), fairy (doesn't exist yet) and... oof, Psychic. Ofc you have the usual suspects just softlocking themselves, but otherwise, being weak against the best type in the game always is crippling.
Fighting type really simply isn't that good in gen 1, and the things Poliwrath gains seem rather small, and the things it loses seem brutal.
Poliwhirl vs. Poliwrath is the one time I am downright sure that the further evo will be worse than the lower one.

@@ArloMathisRhydon does have some very noticeable things going for it. Not only is its physical bulk really good, but it's actually the strongest physical attacker in the game thanks to having STAB on Earthquake and Rock Slide in particular, unlike Dragonite who has no physical STAB moves to make use of.
Now the low speed and special is absolutely going to hold it back, as its solid hp stat isn't going to be enough to save it from something like a 4x super-effective Hydro Pump, but I do think it will perform better than one might expect.

      @Gungho73 Год назад +5

@@MotherBra1n The fighting type is a huge disadvantage in competitive gen 1 moveset wise, because fighting is often terrible but also because of Psychic types and those who can use the move psychic often being rediculously good before the special split. The benefit of a fighting type competitively would be against a Chansey or Tauros typically, or types like Rhydon. But the latter already gets smashed by Polwhirls water/ice based moves which are often better when paired with Amnesia. The former two both can learn thunderbolt and Chansey with physic prior to its special split is just a bad matchup. The boost in speed is not enough in gen 1, with crit chance included. to make up for this. Zapdos is also a matchup nightmare. It's less about the statistical difference, and more about what it "loses" by gaining them.
In gen 2, there are still arguments to be made that Poliwhirl is in fact better compeititvely. I think "Freezai"? Was a RUclipsr with a 2 minute video on the subject in you're interested in that as well. I'm sure Jrose will offer a great discussion on this as well!

@@Gungho73 that makes sense, especially competitively where electric, grass, and psychic would be super effective against Poliwrath with it's mediocre special.
For a solo run however where the AI is awful, the AI hardly ever use any powerful super effective moves, I wonder if Poliwrath's stats would still make it faster. You see Poliwhirl won't learn Amnesia until level 41.
Poliwrath starts with body slam and has a pretty good base attack. The biggest obstacle I see for Poliwrath that Poliwhirl can manage better would be Gyarados as Poliwhirl can badge boost which Poliwrath cannot (or just Amnesia then ice beam) but then Gyarados probably won't be able to do much to Poliwrath either, it has decent defense and should tank a hyper beam then finish it off with Body Slam.
Poliwhirls best move until Mt. Moon is water gun (and we saw how big of an issue this was with starmie) until it gets mega punch (a move with less power than body slam and with a worse base attack).
And whilst fighting types may be awful competitively they have a huge advantage in a solo run: Good AI makes Lance a complete joke. I mean Poliwhirl would probably sweep lance with a single amnesia but Lorelei's Dewgong could lower it's attack both with growl and aurora beam which might make slowbro, Jynx and Lapras kind of annoying.
I could be wrong, I guess we'll wait and see but I feel certain that Poliwrath would outpace Poliwhirl until Poliwhirl learns Amnesia and that might be enough for it to win a solo race.

Between those Nidoking and Nidoqueen, your the real king for making one video a day!
To asnwer your question, for me, I love shorter vidéos since It remove the repetitive of some fights sometimes but your narration is so good that, even if they are longer, I will still watch them!

I think the single combined episode for Nidorans was absolutely appropriate and I think in the spirit of those Pokemon. I also think it made sense at the time given your insane upload schedule then. For middle stage evolutions, I'm really curious how you're going to do them since they are kind of similar to two Pokemon and there's a fair number of them to get through. I also kind of prefer the shorter videos as hour long odyssee's where half the video is the same six battles is fine every now and again, but can be a little much if it's constantly. These short and sharp videos are fun.
I also got a real frenetic energy in this video that was so cute to see.

MAD LAD respect levels here! This must be maddening to be "weezing" this badly to a critical freeze VS exeggutor. Also funny since the Winters approach as well :3
High quality content going for a pokémon at a time instead of putting 2+ mons in parallel

I don't see how not healing saves a ton of time. It takes like 15 seconds of in game time to heal. Being out of PP and taking a lot longer in battles takes much more time.

Vid is kinda old but if you do see this Jrose. I like the long episodes, around an hour. I know its more editing for you and commentary. But its cool to see a lot of what you did; your victory's and loses and how you over came them or the clutch luck, and your insight and comedy that you add to it all. I like seeing how Pokemon I never used fair. I was heavy into Pokemon back in the Gameboy Pocket/Color/Advance/SP days with my friends. So its cool to see someone still smashing on what started it all.

This was indeed an interesting run. I personally always liked Nidoqueen just a bit better than Nidoking since it does have the extra defense and hp which Nidoking doesn't have so I honestly thought it would give it the edge in this Solo run. But anyways! I actually really preferred this style over the Nidoran male/female double video you did in the past. It just feels more focused and more fun to watch even though I liked that video too. Anyways keep up the amazing work as usual Jrose! I can't wait to see more of your awesome content this month!
