Surf is such a benefit to water pokemon in the early gens. A 95 base power 100 accuracy move with no drawback that hits both opponents in double battles and you can teach it as many times as you want.
Surf is great in doubles especially gen 3 because it doesn't hurt any pokes on your side of the field, only the enemies. Great move for pokemon colleseum and XD. Sadly that changed in gen 4 but still a great move in the main game. "Rise at surf!"
Allowing for Dratini (and Trade Evolutions. And the National Dex), you could have a decently diverse team. Gyarados Dragonite Starmie Poliwrath Kingdra Muk (Fished in the Celadon Pond) Not terrible. Poliwrath to more easily beat Ice types, Muk for Grass types, Dragonite and Kingdra help against Electric... Not amazing, but not terrible.
This might as well have been a Grayados only run. I mean it's possible to do a Magicarp run all the way, albeit grinding all the way to level 100 and using items in battle all the way through, but Gyarados is strong enough to do it without items in battle.
I liked it, interesting idea. Just bare in mind your competition is outputting at the 30-45 mins on average. You got a sub, looking forward to seeing where you go from here.
@@silentbobfan32 that is indeed true, I must admit the brief format was certainly interesting, guess I was just expressing a personal preference. I tend to listen to Pokémon runs in a podcast background style, as they’re easy to follow without the visuals.
Love the short video format, no reason to drag out these kinda vids for an hour.. always seem to lose interest around the 30 min mark. Gained a subscriber 😊
thought i'd clarify tho, the fishlocke was done in a drayano rom hack which gives you the old rod at the start of the game pretty much, then i played the game in traditional nuzlocke fashion (but only fishing encounters)
I got leaf green first then a couple months later got firered and my parents made me give leaf green to my sister. I always felt like I, and everyone else left leaf green behind. Like to see it getting some love
Idk i think actually allowing Dratini could have been interesting. As it is kinda just a mono water run so adding that little bit of type diversity could be fun. Could have also made a cute little story line out of it like Dragonair being an underperformer all game then at the last minute in the league it evolves and finishes the final fight. Overall though fun idea and while it probably wasn't super challenging you made it entertaining, good stuff.
@@testerwulf3357 i mean sure but it would only be for like the last few fights of the entire game. and it's not like this challenge was a struggle at all anyway, would have just been some neat variety to have Dragonair there a few times.
I really liked the video, it was a really interesting idea that not many poketubers would have done. One bit of constructive criticism though, and it's more a personal thing for me which others might not agree with, but I think the video is too short. There is a lot of content you're putting into a 10 minute long video and for a nuzlocke that might not be a good thing.
Kinda obvious yes. Water Pokemon in gen1 are awesome. Gyarados is hard to get but a powerhouse. Starmie has excellent special attack and defense. Cloysteris another powerhouse. Kingler is another hard hitter. You’d have to be an inexperienced player to think this would be remotely hard
Honestly, I appreciate trying to do this legit, but just start with a level 20 Gyardos. You don’t need to waste your life grinding just for the sake of it.
Say he won't use dratini for power creep reason Proceeds to use equally powerful as dragonite pokemon so early in game without the drawbakc of slow growth rate -
Gyarados is still in the slow exp group, but yeah. Though to be fair, his Gyarados was mostly operating off its weaker special attack stat with bite and surf.
@@kyklous3657 yeah but but ain't getting gyara stats with dragonair at the level will be at Sure he has poor options but seriously when you hit them super effective it goes smooth
Why does everyone refer to that guy as "selling an overpriced Magikarp"? Yes, I am aware Magikarp is a joke, both figuratively and I think literally on a certain level, but you know what? That little fish can be evolved fairly early into an absolute monster of a pokemon in Gyarados. So you essentially get a Gyarados for $500 and a little work. I'm aware that in terms of game mechanics, we can normally get a Magikarp every time we turn around by fishing basically anywhere with the most basic of rods. But considering that in terms of the actual Pokemon world, you're essentially getting an early Gyarados within a couple of hours of starting your journey if you want... It just doesn't feel like an overall bad deal to me, certainly not overpriced
It is overpriced as it’s too common of a pokemon to be worth that much..and you have to painfully evolve it yourself, it’s not close to evolving! If it WAS a gyarados I’d agree on the price..but a MAGIKARP? It’s worth more than pokeballs?! You’re also thinking about it as if the man was looking for US to sell it too. He’s selling it to ANYONE! For a new trainer it’s useful but to a higher experienced one?? Nah, they’re catching their own 😂 who paying 500 for it Paying 500 for a magikarp would be like if I tried to sell you a can of worms 🪱 for 300$ 😭
I prefer the shorter format, some other poketubers just drag the whole playthrough out for an hour and its hard to watch - this is much easier to digest
"Can You Beat Pokemon Leaf Green By ONLY Fishing" No you can´t because you A: need to use a starter for the first part and B: need to have other Pokemon for Cut ..... so nice video and nice idea and fun to watch but in theory.... the answer to your title is "no" ^^
It's because the Dragon type is one of the best types prior to Generation Six with the introduction of the Fairy type and would make the challenge too easy, which is why he didn't use it.
@Edwardo111 what if i do it for free i mean i have the skill i just need to gain more experience I'll help you without any pay and even with a minimum pay of 1$ I'm fine with it

Yes, Edwardo, I believe you can. More importantly I believe in YOU.

it might have been better to just mod the game to make your starter be a lvl 5 magikarp so you got to start with that until you get the rods

Honestly shocked yo don’t have more attention
You could beat the entire game with that gyarados that you didn’t even fish for
Not sure if you take video ideas but a Platinum run where you get a random pokemon before each gym would be sick
If comments are good video is going to be good and what that means you deserve a sub
what a great time to have a pokemon hyperfixation
Feels like a rogue water ex-Gym leader do round before retiring...
Nice video i really enjoyed it. RUclips randomly recommended it to me. I will leave a sub
Bro how?! You deserve like 100 k subs
I was hoping that you would have a team of 6 gyrados and just destroy the e4
You can actually teach thunderbolt to starmie
starmie and gyarados are able to learn thunderbolt..... i feel that would have helped
Always wanted to beat this game as a water trainer only
Where is Dratini?? :0
He said in the starting that he will not use dratini bcz it makes the game too easy
