I think it stopped working starting in gen 5 because the capture tutorial since then are just cut scenes, whereas earlier generations it's an actual battle that you don't control. Another interesting thing I found is that in gen 3 or 4 during the capture tutorial, the first Pokémon in your party is temporarily replaced with the Pokémon the person is using (Eg. Wally's Zigzagoon, Lyra's marill, etc)
@@Pixiuchu Im pretty sure the game generate new pokemon for each trainer (minus its pre set levels and skills and what pokemons) so the technically your rival dont have the same starter pokemon as its a new one for each encounter. (practical reason).

Also, what happens after he fails to catch it with the first ball. I don't recall him sending out a Pokemon. He just throws the ball. Could the Weedle attack him? Does he have HP? Can the old man be defeated?

I have some vague memory of him failing to catch it and just using that as a way to tell the player that it doesn't work every time and you should weaken them first for better chances. I don't know if that was on Blue or Yellow though, or if the battle works any different between them.

That happened to me with Wally in Emerald. He killed the Ralts. And I swear it happened naturally. He used tackle twice and on the second one was a critical hit.
I broke the Emerald tutorial in a randomizer on accident before seeing this video and it softlocled the video Edit: It softlocked the fame because wally's zigzagoon got knocked out by a graveler. I had 3 pokemon in my part and it let me "send out" another pokemon but nothing came out, then a bad egg got sent out with the zigzagoon sprite still and when it got attacked, it had 24/255 health
Reason why Wally do has a Ralts after this: he always ditch the already caught Ralts to get another one. That's why in R/S/E if the Ralts he caught was Shiny it isn't Shiny anymore and in ORAS his Gallade is caught in an Ultra Ball, even while he used a regular Ball in the tutorial. Wally was AND is the most awful rival ever.
I want a Pokemon game where, even if it's your first Pokemon game, there's no catching tutorial. The professor says "Too bad, learn to catch Pokemon on your own!" and gives you 5 Poke Balls and 5 Potions.

Unfortunately even if the Ralts Wally finds and catches is shiny, it will still be generic in your next battle with him and onwards. Man scripted events are a real bummer.
Am I misremembering, or was there a small chance in the earlier games that the catching tutorial failed and the mentor was like 'Oops! Well, maybe you'll have better luck!' or something like that?
In gen 1, "absolute accuracy" events had a 1/256 chance of failing because of the way the game was programmed. This includes moves like Swift, of course, but also guaranteed successes like using a Master Ball.
@@modothegreat108 no... no, it did not. the 1/256 glitch is due to an oversight in the way gen1 checks accuracy. moves like swift and the master ball skip accuracy checks altogether. therefore, they also skip over the glitch. edit: the catching tutorial isn't even an "absolute accuracy" event, so i don't even know why you brought that up.
For the Serena catching tutorial, have you tried damaging items like Flame Orb or Sticky Barb? Can you edit her Fletchling to be a different pokemon? Do abilities like Truant take effect?

I was playing an Emerald Randomizer, and during the tutorial, Wally's Pokemon was knocked out and the game asked if I wanted to send in a different Pokemon or run.
It happened to me once, i was playing a randomised version of ruby, and Wally's Pokemon got knocked out and then the game asked if he would like to switch out. Maybe because the game was thinking he has more than one since i had more than one pokemon in my party.

Reason why Wally do has a Ralts after this: he always ditch the already caught Ralts to get another one. That's why in R/S/E if the Ralts he caught was Shiny it isn't Shiny anymore and in ORAS his Gallade is caught in an Ultra Ball, even while he used a regular Ball in the tutorial. Wally was AND is the most awful rival ever.

I want a Pokemon game where, even if it's your first Pokemon game, there's no catching tutorial. The professor says "Too bad, learn to catch Pokemon on your own!" and gives you 5 Poke Balls and 5 Potions.

@@dandyrebellion Yeah, I didn't know it did until I did it. It still gives you the pokeballs that you would get before it and has different dialogue if you do that.

The good thing about the blue and red tutorial is that it's repeatable and as a result can cause glitches
In gen 1, "absolute accuracy" events had a 1/256 chance of failing because of the way the game was programmed. This includes moves like Swift, of course, but also guaranteed successes like using a Master Ball.

the 1/256 glitch is due to an oversight in the way gen1 checks accuracy. moves like swift and the master ball skip accuracy checks altogether. therefore, they also skip over the glitch.
edit: the catching tutorial isn't even an "absolute accuracy" event, so i don't even know why you brought that up.

For the Serena catching tutorial, have you tried damaging items like Flame Orb or Sticky Barb? Can you edit her Fletchling to be a different pokemon? Do abilities like Truant take effect?

The catching tutorial is entirely scripted. You would actually have to modify the script itself to make any changes.

The only way I can think of to make the results more accurate to gameplay is to modify not just the gameplay, but the overworld and cutscenes as well

My Father had an original Pokemon Red Gameboy Cartridge with All Pokedex Entries including Missingno, I had found your RUclips Channel and I learned a lot about Pokémon I didn't even know.
Ever since I was a kid I Admired my Dad, he was the best idol a child could ever dream for. This year I started as a freshman in Highschool and I wanted to tell you I watched your video's every single day, I miss you playing Pokémon Randomizer Nuzlockes. A lot of people do.
I just recently got my dads old Nintendo 64 because he used to have one and he gave it to me as a gift since I'm now in Highschool as it made me very happy, and sad. Since he was giving me his Pride.
P.S if I can meet you in person that would be an honor, as your are a well known individual in the Pokemon Community, and I always wanted to try a Randomizer but my father never allowed me, since he didn't trust them back then.

It happened to me once, i was playing a randomised version of ruby, and Wally's Pokemon got knocked out and then the game asked if he would like to switch out. Maybe because the game was thinking he has more than one since i had more than one pokemon in my party.

I think the reason that the battles did nothing to the overworld is because they are completely unrelated according to the games code.
