Play pokemon crystal clear rom, you can literally catch all pokemon. Or like me use a rom with cheat codes. I just modify which pokemon appears in the grass and can catch any one at any time. Considering the game's troll mechanics it is actually better so and way more enjoyable
They gave up in alola. I'm very dissatisfied that I went and bought Moon and then discovered that there is no National pokedex in it either. FFS, let me trade for the rest of my damned life, I wanna complete a national dex in one region at least!
I completed my Black/Black 2 Pokédex. Unfortunately wifi trading is not enabled for DS/DSi/3DS anymore so if you wanted to complete gen 4 Pokédex you need to find someone local to trade with. :( :(
Yeah I always thought that in the originals getting all of them but mew would mean that the gamefreak guy would give you a mew to top it off but no. At least in the newer games you get a shiny stone, still seems underwhelming when you've gone and caught 720+ pokemon on the 3ds.which I actually did :/
They get better in the later games. In the Ruby/Sapphire Remakes (Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire) You can get a Diploma for completing both the Regional and National Dexes that you can display in your secret base for anyone who visits to see. You also get the Oval Charm (for completing the Regional) and the Shiny Charm (for completing the National). The Oval Charm is a Key Item that increases the rate that Pokémon left in the Daycare will produce an Egg and the Shiny Charm is a Key Item that increases the odds of encountering a Shiny Pokémon. Basically, if there are certain Shiny Pokémon you want to get that you can through breeding Pokémon, completing the Dexes to get the Shiny and Oval Charms will really help. It's how I got my Shiny Charizard.

yeah i mean just think! in pokemon diamond, pearl, and platinum u catch uxie, mesprit, and azelf. and where are they? at lakes. its like “oh my gosh! the time gears are in the sinnoh region! the gaurdians of the time gears have been captured!” and then instead of destroying temporal tower darkrai just steals the time gears without having to fight and destroys the world. darkrai: “well, that was easy. looks like i don’t even have to worry about grovyle and his friends this time.”
dude, pokemon is litterally a world where dog fighting is not only accepted but encouraged, where they have technology but still do pet fighting. it's a world where they have the technology to catch god, trap it a a ball that forces it to like you, they don't give a fuck! some pokemon speak, some look like human so much (some are even said in the pokedex to be past human) but they are still slave, it doesn't matter, even when they die a become "gasly" they are still not free, they must figh for our enjoyment even beyond death !!
It makes sense that he wouldn't care, since earlier in the game it wasn't Elm who gave us the Pokédex. In Johto the player receives the Pokédex by Prof. Oak at Mr. Pokémon's house, so Elm probably doesn't even know that we have it lol
Something interesting to note with every generation there's also a new console to get so its not just the Pokedex to fill but also the Nintendodex that needs to be completed
So basically after spending hundreds of dollars on different version games and consoles and hundreds of hours of your life 'catching them all' your reward is "Good job! Here's a gold star sticker!" That's such a kindergarten award.
You would think that that should be the most important thing in pokemon. "to catch them all" after all it was their fucking slogan. Dam you Game Freak!

I like seeing this video. Not _all_ of it will be relevant to me, but I’m currently building a complete Living Dex of all 905 in Pokémon home, and I have about 75 left to get. Also putting them in National Dex number order, so it’s really cool to scroll through and see them all in the correct line. It’s incredibly satisfying to watch those boxes slowly fill. Anyway, starting with Scarlet and Violet, for every new game that comes out, I’ll be able to catch every _new gen_ Pokémon, then wait for Home support to be added, and drop my Living Dex in, take them out, move them to the other new game, take them out again, and have the National Dex for those games completed. It’s gonna feel so damn good. It’s already worked when I completed the Dex in Sword, then moved them all to Shield, a game in which I’d caught about 30 Pokémon in total, and suddenly had the Dex complete. Point is, seeing Dex completion is really damn cool, I’ve never EVER done it before Let’s Go, only had since with P:LA, and am really looking forward to continuing to do so in the future.
@@zsxavi I am indeed! Well, the actual process of completing the Dex was finished about a month or so after writing the original comment, apart from the gen 9 versions. And when gen 9 support came out, I had all 103 new ones ready to go, popped them into Home, and I’m back to having all of them in Home again! And that’s how I’m going to continue going forward!

That feeling in 1999 when you've convinced your friends to trade you the version exclusives then delete their save files to send you the other two starters so you can fill those first 9 spots in the Dex. You even gave that kid at camp a stack of poorly treated holographic cards from the Base and Fossil sets so he'd trade you the Mew he SWEARS he didn't gameshark into his game. 157 hours played. When I was very young Pokemon just released the first series and after that everybody bought and played the games on their Game Boy. We then started a group to complete our Pokedexes because there were some Pokemon you could only find in Blue/Red and of course you could only choose one starting Pokemon. If somebody of us catched a very rare and difficult to catch Pokemon you can imagine that it was shared with everybody else. To me sadness, the charizard didnt print when I talked to the dev in celadon or oak, so the next logical step was to break open the cartridge and get my charizard. Yeah because its a pretty unattainable goal for most kids lol. So why waste the time making a cool bonus if no one will get it. Also Game Freak is more focused on the story rather than the post-game, where beating the pokedex usually takes place.
You'd have to have a lot of friends with different versions or have the GTS available as a kid to beat the Pokedex. I was too dumb to figure out how to trade for version exclusive Pokemon with the GTS as a kid though, no one ever wanted my wurmple :(

Alola: *Pure nightmare*
Unova is actually the game I enjoyed completing the Pokédex in the most (recently I replayed every generation and completed the regional dex in each one, and no before you ask, I don’t give a shit that I can’t transfer them to sword and shield)
Hoenns dex is way harder than Sinnoh's lol
