I read “horsea” as “horse” and for a second I was fully convinced you somehow made a setup allowing horses to play Pokémon games and didn’t even question it. I’m tired.

gen 1 movepools in a nutshell
@@Laezar1 if you miss this feeling, you should check out BDSP. The movesets are from Sword/Shield, which was balanced based on a ton of reusable TMs and even more TRs.
Movesets in BDSP are *awful* without a lot of work to get egg moves.
@@Laezar1yeah I was gonna say, I think that was the catchphrase of the devs working on Gen 1
I mean. There’s only like three options for what the problem can be
Crazy thing is the rival beat the game faster than even Mewtwo.
The Rival uses a team tho. Mewtwo was a solo run
@@RIPToriyamaDBZNo, the _rival_ beat the game. Not his Pokémon, not his team, just him. If we could get him into a Poké Ball, we'd be UNSTOPPABLE!
@@amberhernandez that is just an untrue statement. We literally see him use his team 7 times or eight depending on the run
@@RIPToriyamaDBZ I was trying to be funny about it :(
@@RIPToriyamaDBZyeah, but we never see him win with that team. He probably wins when he’s not using it
That miraculous moment where you see a Jrose video, ask yourself 'hmm, I don't recall... OH ITS BRAND NEW LETS GO!' - new video!
Ah, the "Wrapping Lass" and the "Status Condition Jr. Trainer" the bane of many slow Water types

Bojack Horsea might be the best reference you’ve ever made
Mr Peanutbutter as the rival was just icing on the cake.

RUclips: "Wake up! New JRose video!"

Kinda disappointed that when you reset, you didn't name it HorseB
I know you've mentioned in a video before how proud you are of the color schemes you come up with for each Pokemon, but this videos it was SO nice to look at! Exceptional job jrose! Just started the video but excited to see how horsea can do, always liked the horsea line
I remember doing a run with Horsea. Technically it can be done on Minimum Battles, but the Bide luck needed for Rival 2, the Oddish Lass, and Misty is what makes it not fun. Once it got Agility, that was when the fun began.
Jrose named the rival "Mr Peanutbutter."
"Erica! You know you're not allowed to use AI!!"
I thought it was a reference to Mr. Poopy Butthole
The fact that Bruno just gets obliterated by a seahorse is amazing
i appreciate the Bojack Horeseman references
Like the suffering
A sort of clutch win, and perfectly hitting that level 69 at the very end.
On the topic of using Lapras as the Surf pokemon: For runs that you have trouble beating Rival Fival, and don't have a pokemon that learns Surf, getting the Celadon City Eevee and evolving it to Vaporeon to teach it Surf could be an option to get more EXP. Helpful especially for when the solo run is a Grass-type or Electric-type as the Swimmers are a very easy source of EXP. Probably a bit late in the series to employ that as a new strategy as I don't know how many earlier pokemon that would have helped.
Always fun when the obscure Pokemon get some love!
Having a Pokemon with essentially only Water and Ice moves is wild.
It had a psychic move as well and psychic is the best move type in Red and Blue (repeat after me, badge boost glitch) XD
I already know we’re getting some top tier puns in this one. Love your videos Jrose! Been watching since your Magikarp video in Red/Blue
I cannot WAIT for Seel. I dont care if it doesn't perform well. It's my favorite gen 1 Pokémon.
Love your content!
You might be the first person I’ve ever seen say Seel is a favorite pokemon of theirs
It's probably going to be a nightmare in early game having only Headbutt until the 30's, but at least it learns ice beam naturally in case you want to forget and relearn it at some point.
"I just kept getting Zubat in Mt. Moon."
*Everyone felt that.*
Vincent Adultman to Bojack "don't be sad. Good horsea :)"
The color palette for this one is PERFECT!
12:15 It's also worth noting that Double Team sets up the badge boost glitch which just makes it completely OP in this game and would make most runs pretty boring
You should just call what you did against Rival Two: "The Groundhog Day Method" 😂
"Rival two! I've come to bargain!"
@@CobaltCruiser NICE!!!!
35:34 You heard of ‘six fucking ground types,’ now get ready for ‘six fucking water types.’
Man when you’re done with all of these a retrospect/FAQ or something would be amazing. Enjoying your end of the video tier list. Thank you so much for the years of content I don’t know how I’d get through so many lonely nights and long drives without your endless entertainment ❤
I am a simple man:
i see a new gen1 run uploaded by jrose, i stop everything i was doing at that moment, take glas of whisky and enjoy the video
"how bad of a move is bubble ACTUALLY?"
oh whoops wrong channel
"Within the top 10, 6 Pokémon right now are of the water type." If you're referring to the list shown, it's actually 7. Maybe it's easy to forget Omanyte is Rock/Water. Or maybe you meant the top 10 post-Gastly.
I think I meant post Gastly or miscounted
Either way it's 7; Poliwag, Tentacool, Staryu, Horsea, Omanyte, Krabby, and Slowpoke are all within the Top 10.
I just assumed you were speaking pre-adding horsea to the list
Meanwhile Squirtle's all the way down at #24 as he's saying that lol
@@qactustick Squirtle is in that weird spot where it's trying to be "bulky" offense, but isn't bulky enough nor offensive enough to pull it off without severe overleveling.
Another reason why (mono) water types are so strong in gen 1 is that water is a special type that is only weak to other special types (electric and grass). They get a high special stat, which covers both attack and defense in gen 1, so they don't really have any big weaknesses - so they end up tanking a lot of hits compared to other types. (Also, there's a LOT of water types, so they're kinda bound to be overrepresented.)
So Horsea did quite well for itself despite some hiccups and ends on a "nice" number level-wise, lol. Anyway, good to see how this went. Wonder if Seadra would be even better or not.
"Forgot to use Amnesia"
>mimic'd Growl instead of Amnesia, which is the real reason you didn't use Amnesia
Yeah. Okay.
I stared watching these about a year ago and they genuinely rekindled my love for pokemon- so much so I went out and bought a switch to play shining pearl and then a randomiser rom on my phone to play emerald run throughs with my own challenges- I'm 30 years old and I haven't enjoyed gaming this much in a while! Thanks for then great content 😁
How often is Blaine the 4th gym leader?! What a funny order with Horseas situation.
I wonder if for ice beam coverage the correct rival pick for water types is squirtle? You'd have had to rely on the gyara freeze if you were facing blastoise at the champion for example
6:30 jrose, you obviously aren't obsseively watching jrose videos like the rest of us, you had this same problem with krabby and I think something else? I'm rooting for you!
Naming your trainer Bojack for this one reminded me of the "Fish Out Of Water" episode.
I was looking for something to watch on RUclips. Jrose has great timing 👏
I love these videos!! Hope everything is going good Jrose, keep doing what you truly enjoy, whether its these types of challenge runs or whatever else fits your fancy.
my cat is dying but at least I have jrose11 horsea video to keep my mind occupied
Summary- Decent-ish stats and water moves. Brock was easy... but this run has Misty and rival 2 as a roadblock instead. It just doesn't have much besides basic water move progression and some annoying stuff like bide and smokescreen. The only real upgrade it ever gets is ice beam.
Mimic and surf, you've won the game
Yay!!!! I’ve been rewatching old runs lately.. needed jrose in my life. Lo and behold a new video! Thank you so much!
Horsea doesn't have a lot of moves, but it has just enough. Surf and Ice Beam are an overwhelming combo in Gen 1. Awesome run.
I have been waiting too long for another Jrose video!
Yes! Right on time to accompany me on the ride back from work! :D Love your videos man
Lovely timing. I'm in a binge of these videos today! Just finished the Tentacool vid. Great run.
horsea what you did there.
ok that was a stretch
Stop horseaing around
@@menderbug1you seadra time saying?
Just found this channel last week and been binging. So happy to catch a fresh video 😊
Please do a Dewgong run! Seal the deal
Single move series! Let's go!
Hello j rose, it's been a while since I watched one of your videos and I just want to say I immediately noticed improved audio quality and even sounds like a more relaxed delivery from you. Nice to hear. Hope you are well
I'm impressed by how well Horsea did, in spite of its shortcomings in the early game! I wonder if Rest would've helped against the Jr. Trainer with two Oddish and two Bellsprout, but even so I can't imagine she'd be easy. Regardless, it was cool seeing one of these live and I've love to tune in to another one (maybe Kadabra live on Twitch someday?)
i was thinking this is shaping up to be a rare restart! then you dropped the "i think im gonna do something i've only done a handful of times.." i started cheering 🙏🏻😂
Jrose is back with the Single Pokémon challenge, let's go!
Ground Pokémon seems to be struggling in these solo runs, but maybe Marowak's Bone Boomerang can bypass the wall :p
I love these videos I watch them before I go to bed such an awesome series
A delicious new entry to the series, thank you for uploading.
ooh! Another one I've been waiting so long for. My favorite water type!
Glad to see another one of those classic runs.
Wow we finally got to my favorite Pokémon. Was waiting patiently since the very beginning man!
The color scheme for this run looks absolutely incredible
Half expected you to name Horsea "Radish"
First time I recall seeing an editing mistake in one of these: the winning Koga fight isn't shown! 17:46 is still a loss
I think I saw one before but it's impressive that there have been this many videos without many mistakes.
*shakes fist*
AJ!!!!!!
Amazing vid once again dude. Keep it up!
One pokémon closer to cubone
The FFVIII soundtrack never goes unappreciated.
Man I wish this series would come out quicker. Water types are pretty good though
Jrose I love the enthusiasm, But the seahorse for king neptune out of all the other options? This video was extremely fun to watch and full of surprises! Your commentary as always comedic and informative with plenty of twists.
Ninetails or Dodrio would be nice. Dodrio get stab for both normal and fly attacks. Ninetails is so elegant, but his best moves are only learned by vulpix (confuse ray, flamethrower) so maybe another pre evolved run?
13:51 the wrapping lass
Great job Jrose and I noticed that water type Pokemon have a unique start their good against Brock, walled by misty and weak to surges electric attacks and keep up the amazing work
A new Jrose11 movie! That tops the weekend! Keep them coming pal!
Been looking forward to this one for a while, last year I finally decided to do one of these myself to see what it was like and I picked Horsea, so was excited to see if you could get as good a run with it as I managed. Makes me wonder how Seadra would fare in the other list
13:37 The Wrapping Lass!
This Horsea run gets the OG Bug Catcher official stamp of approval! 👍
My lovely Horsea, one of my favorite pokemon, that I hated having to wait to catch it when I was a kid playing yellow (how many water types, and better ones you can have until Horsea shows up...)
Loved the video, loved that it ended up performing great despite the move pool limitations ❤
OMG, Horsea finally! Thank you!
Started with the Bulbasaur vid about a month or so ago and I’m finally caught up. Looking forward to future episodes.
Incredible final battle
Damn Jrose11! Back at again with the Pokémon videos! 😂🤣
Ooo love the color scheme for this one. This is a nice blue
i watch the videos when i go to sleep, how long has he had the names as “Bojack” and “Mr. Pb” or is that just because this run is a Horsea run? either way i love it 😭
My day has been terrible so far, had several payments I forgot about leave me nearly broke, coming down with a bad cold, and then I saw Jrose11 posted and honestly life could be worse
14:20 Mr. President, there's been a second junior trainer.
The trainer and rival names are always so much fun and great references to various stuff 😊
8:10 that gives me flashbacks on The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon.
Water/ice combo is devastating to vast majority of gen 1.
Just when the world needs him, Jrose returns 🔥🔥🔥
Great job on the colour scheme again ❤
If only Kingdra existed in this gen...great vid as usual!
“Forgot to use amnesia” means taught growl on accident. 31:58
Yay Horsea! I love that you give all the little weird and wonderful Pokemon some love 🥰
I feel like this is the first time Bide has actually played a roll.
Three little orphans one, two, three
Without a home or a family tree
Until this horse said: Live with me
And now they've got a new family!
We're laughin' and learnin' and lovin' a lot
Every new day is a dream
We were lost and now we're found
And we're hoursin' around

Horsea and Seadra are inspirations from real sea animals.
Horsea is a reverse abbreviation for Seahorse
Seadra is an abbreviation for Sea Dragon
Was...that ever in question? A lot of gen 1 Pokemon, especially the water-types, are based on real animals lol
thats actually not true - shigeru miyamoto invented horsea and seadra in 1989 when, after a long fight with constipation, his poop just looked like them
YESSSS!!!!!! I have watched every video again in anticipation of a new drop, LETS GOOO!!!!
35:36 Minor correction here - within your tier list, *7* of the top 10 are Water Pokemon
