Even if its free, you still get some sort of commission right, I just want you to. Your a RUclipsrs I feel like puts a lot of effort in their videos and I always enjoy watching. So, yes I want you to get paid. I will be checking it out.
Saf, you are missing a lot of important cultural context needed to understand these videos and the reasons/layout behind them and their affiliated websites. Usually, I'm impressed by your video research but some of the things you said come off as disparaging in this video due to your lack of cultural context.
to be that gal; don't forget opera is based on chromium, so if you want to avoid the data-sharing that chrome does, choose firefox instead! works just as fast
As a Chinese person to give reference, these videos are made by Chinese factories and store fronts to sell to middle age women in China. They’re best found in Chinese Temu, pinduoduo. Taobao which is Chinese Amazon and Chinese TikTok shop. In the future Safiya you should just buy them off taobao and save a lot of money since they’re marking up the prices 5-10 times.
Omg was trying so hard to see if someone mentioned Taobao or Pinduoduo! I'd say that there are both advantages and disadvantages~ tbh I've only used Taobao, but I'm pretty sure they only have a Chinese storefront, and the google page translate feature isn't very accurate so it be a struggle to purchase things . However, with that being said, there is also the option to search using photos- so defs a lot easier and cheaper!
The fact that Safiya did lab grade experiments to test the legitimacy of the products made me so happy for some reason! I think other youtubers wouldn't even bother. They'd just show the thing they bought like "here's our haul! We don't know if it's actually working, but the lights are glowing, bubbles are raising, buy at your own risk"
The experiment was not performed correctly. Door handles don't harbour much bacteria because it's not a good environment for growth. They left the plates at 26 degrees for 5 days which, combined with the poor swabbing choice, has only grown satellite colonies. If she wants to do it properly, I would suggest she swabs a part of the human body, preferably a clammy area like armpit or feet. Then grow it at 37 degrees for no more than 2 days. She needs to grow the plates agar facing down to prevent condensation and contamination that she saw. Source: phd in microbiology.
When she pulled out the disinfecting gun, I was like "the only way she could test that is with some petri dishes" and then she PULLED OUT THE PETRI DISHES. I'm absolutely living for Science Saf!
I'd seen this comment before I got to that bit so it didn't surprise me, but when she got to the actual swab and she sprayed the door handle, I was like, "Oh no, don't swab it when it is wet!!" because I'd forgotten at the beginning that it was water and light, not just light! Then Saf talked about waiting for it to dry 😂 Our science queen!
I love the whole premise of the gun, it uses a special blue light that kills bacteria, plus a mist of alcohol. It's like saying "we used a special ritual spell to kill him, the spell includes shooting him with a gun."
I thought the exact same thing! I was like "aw, she could use some petri dishes for that! what a sha... WAIT SHE HAS PETRI DISHES!!" Also the incubator? Wow. Talk about commitment.
And a humidified incubator! And put the dishes in the incubator the right way up (tops down)! Like, how much science equipment is just available to the regular consumer these days?
Safiya I just have to say I love the way you speak. I have an auditory processing disorder and you are the ONLY creator I can watch without subtitles and still understand. The way you emphasize every word is literally a saving grace for me. You are the absolute best ❤❤❤
yes! Many other creators have that content creator accent where their tone goes up at the end of each sentence or phrase, but Safiya just talks like how she talks and it’s nice and clear and easy to listen to instead of the auditory equivalent of jingling keys in front of a baby so they’ll pay attention to you
like she doesn't weirdly peak the end of her sentences to make tension or say it with the weird "youtuber accent" (which funnily enough has resulted in a accent change in gen alpha briitish children, which is only memorably notable in a few studies😮. but she enunciates the ends of her sentences just enough without making it feel clipped and starts perfectly to make it a distinct statement, and someone who struggles telling whether a statement has ended or is connected to the next
like she doesn't weirdly peak the end of her sentences to make tension or say it with the weird "youtuber accent" (which funnily enough has resulted in a accent change in gen alpha briitish children, which is only memorably notable in a few studies but is having a growing effect) and she enunciates the ends of her sentences just enough without making it feel clipped and starts perfectly to make it a distinct statement, and someone who struggles telling whether a statement has ended or is connected to the next
The worst part about cleantok is when you're frantically typing the most descriptive yet unhinged search in an attempt to find the most useless item ever
I'm a student in Asia, they sell those UV sprayers really commonly and they were used a bunch during the pandemic. Key note is that they were filled with disinfecting alcohol, so more like an antiseptic mister with a cool light instead of true UV disinfection with water mister.
This may be a dumb question, but how do you know if it’s human written vs auto generated? I thought the caption when you turn on subtitles would say but it doesn’t
Hi Safiya, Microbiology labs teacher here, nice to see you delving deeper into scientific testing! Did not expect to find agar plates when clicking the video, haha. Just a few tips here (if you ever want to test more), there's an easier method for surface testing; we would usually use Rodac or "contact plates" (where the growth medium can be put directly into contact of a surface). These will pick up a lot more. As for controls. The chlorox wipes were a good positive control (disinfectant effect to be expected), but a normal water spray treatment (no blue light) would have been a good negative control to add as well. Happy to help if you want to know more. Now I'm off to find that window cleaner thing, cause I don't have a balcony and have neglected our 2nd floor windows for way too long!
Glad you came here to confirm what I was thinking. I’m a dental assistant and I had to take microbiology (freaking loved that class) before I entered the program for my training. We did the agar plate tests on different surfaces and found that stainless steel handles and knobs didn’t get nearly as much bacteria as we did on other surfaces since it’s anti microbial. I was afraid she wasn’t going to able to see many colonies
Hi Safiya, Chemistry teacher here. If you use a pH strip in the donlim water it should show a change in the water toward being basic (more alkaline) if its carrying out electrolysis. If your water has impurities such as salts in it, you might also notice a beachy or ozone sort of smell directly above the bowl too.
"My mother in law is fast approaching, and I have no way to clean up these f*cking sunflower seeds" is honestly my favorite ending to any RUclips video ever. Such a well earned callback and got a HUGE laugh from me.
Definitely a missed opportunity to make a little "skit" to attach to the end. Her mother in law leaving and saf stress runs and uses all the gadgets she got before the MIL arrives lmao
The mini washer would work great for those who use period underwear since it's so fast and could clean them quickly if you need to redo them without doing a whole load
Also college students! I had of these in my old dorm, because running a standard load was $2.50, and I’m a really clean person, so I often want to wash my clothes after anytime they are on my body. It not only saved my money, but also saved a lot of my fragile clothing, because it’s more gentle than the normal laundry cycle! I actually highly recommend the little laundry machine, although I got mine on Amazon:)
i have one i got from Amazon too and i love it!! went from an apt with an en suite bathroom where i had a basin to put my reusable menstrual pads after rinsing them to soak to a house with a shared bathroom. i didn't want to leave my basin in the bathroom or laundry room out of respect for my housemates, and was always worried about knocking over the basin onto the carpet in my tiny room. the mini washer is perfect because i can carry it into my room and run a few cycles/let them soak safely there before washing. so handy!!
I'm honestly planning on buying one of these for my last year in college (exchange program), I don't use a lot of clothes and I could probably survive just using these on a daily basis without having to spend too much on laundromats since I'm still unsure where I'll be staying (either in-campus dorms or an apartment) :/
@@nicia1460 they are smaller than they look, so maybe plan on going to the laundromat still every now and then! Like, these would not fit a pair of pants well enough to wash, but a Tshirt or two it can def do!
Watching Hobot continually miss the upper left corner was like watching that old Windows screenshot when you wait for the logo to hit the monitor corner.
I think you meant "graphic" instead of "screenshot." I don't think they even had screenshotting back when that was made lol. A graphic is basically a small .png file that can be scaled up or down, and they're usually in .png format because a lot of logos have transparent backgrounds (so a .jpeg is less likely to be used). Anyway, not that it's a big deal or anything. I was just confused for a second until I realized you probably meant to say "graphic," so I figured this would be a great opportunity to explain why the word "graphic" might have been more appropriate to use there. You learn something new everyday :D
Chinese person living in China here. The vegetable cleaner is actually from a pretty well known brand here, so at least that one is pretty legit, not necessarily the functionality, but it's a proper brand at least. If you need some more info on TikTok and Douyin, and their trends, where these videos are coming from and stuff, I'm more than happy to chat about it with you! And as always, another amazing fun video!!
Fun fact, all of these items come from Taobao! It’s a Chinese retailer that’s pretty comparable to ebay or Amazon, but for the Chinese market. You can buy from there direct from outside of China but it’s rather tricky if you can’t read Chinese, so most people aiming to do that will go through a 3rd party shopping service like Superbuy who will get the items for you and ship internationally. Most all Aliexpress and otherwise drop shipped items originally come from there!
the evolution from bad makeup science to actual science experiments with petri dishes and litmus tests 😭 safiya content will always be investigative yet entertaining (and chaotic) at its core
@Novadestin agreed. I think Saf made herself PLENTY clear that her science shouldn't be relied upon and provide suggestive results at best, but I do kinda wish she'd say it SUPER EXPLICITLY, like she does with bad makeup science, since based on the comments with 10k+ likes about her science, a lot of people are at least a little convinced. Placebo effect is real.
Yeah the hobot is intended for the slow build up of car exhaust, pollen, and rain run off with the occasional bird poo splat. Though depending on the size and diets of the birds in your area... could end up just as smeared and gross as a roomba hitting a fresh gift from a chihuahua. Results will vary. There's also definitely a poor hobot out there that has been bombed by a bird poo... But almost anyone with windows that are exposed to gradual grime build up would benefit from giving the exteriors of the windows a good scrub down every now and then. Since most people don't clean the outside of their windows and have probably not realized just how much small particulate dirt has accumulated on the glass. Clean both sides and you might feel like your home is suddenly brighter. I know this is especially true for any of my windows that face the road
I actually own a Hobot and that's exactly what it does. I love to run it after cleaning the windows just to get it streakfree. I seriously love the thing though ngl
The way they're treating hobert like their little robot baby is so cute. Honestly ive been watching safiya for soo long 😂 and shes always been entertaining.
As a trucker sometimes I can't find a laundry shop to do laundry for some of my smaller clothes. I bought one of those mini washing machines from Amazon and it works awesomely!
i could see the mini washing machine being perfect for washing and drying swim suits when you road trip or go on vacation! as a kid whenever we would go swimming we would leave them in the shower and they’d take days to dry, so swimming the next day meant gingerly sliding a moist swimsuit back on. i could see this being a great idea for that!!
@@ninjaturtles12121 i mean with a swimsuit that you're okay wearing again without actually cleaning each time, the spin drying feature alone is actually perfect if it works very well. this is a legitimate way of getting a decent amount of water out of clothes. the public pool i went to as a kid had machines that did this in the locker room specifically for drying your swimsuit to a pretty reasonable lightly-damp level so you didn't totally soak your bag going home. and in china clothes dryers are not super common, most stuff is hung up to dry, so even in a real washing machine you would likely treat your clothes similarly. even in the US my washing machine that is not new has a spin dry feature, and it greatly reduces the time it takes something to air dry by wicking so much of the water out first. rather than waiting forever for a soaked swimsuit to drip dry, you can do that and overnight it should easily be fully (or almost) dry
@@pancake2700 yeah all pools these days in the US (idk other countries) have that spinning/water wicking machine in the changing rooms so even if you don't use it neoprene is such a moisture wicking fabric that laying it out overnight even in humid weather will dry it out. so I really don't see what this washing machine is useful for.
@@ninjaturtles12121 i think the original commenter meant they've hung their swimsuits to dry in hotels where they didn't have something to spin it, and they can definitely stay wet for a long time in that case. would definitely be a case by case thing on just how useful it is for any individual person but this gives you your own spin dryer
I work in research and do cell culture so things need to be sterile. The hoods we work in do use UV light but they are strong (could give you a sun burn) and it can kill contaminates. But we leave the light on for 10-15 minute. So a normal purple light probably won't do anything. The results where mostly from the water is what I'm thinking
yeah, i think what both that and the vegetable washing part prove is people underestimate the cleaning power of just rinsing stuff. it's good enough for like 90% of things
I also worry if they did the culturing process correctly. In my experience, door handles used by a lot of people should have far more growth on them when incubated properly. Also, their thought process for testing was sound, but I'm not sure the execution methods were done correctly. It would be nice to see this experiment replicated by someone with more culturing experience using the same exact device to see if their results change.
@@hayleyleiberman8491yeah the best negative control would be just water in this case I think. Also wondering how long they incubated because 27C isn't a lot! Our lab does 37C
Seems like the baby washing machine would actually be pretty handy for stuff that legitimately needs to be hand washed. Without legitimately handwashing. 😹
@@jazziered142 I had a mesh bag once, years ago, but I have no idea what happened to it. I’m not actually saying I’m going to buy this thing for my handful of lingerie I can’t throw in the wash. Lolol.
I use it a lot for my work gloves, undies, and other small stuff. Plus, I don't like putting greasy fiberglass covered stuff in with everyone else's stuff.
As someone who has only legit hand-washed on a handful (hah) of occasions it seems like doing it old fashion way would not only be faster and more effective the only sunk cost would be a pair of dishwashing gloves if you hate your fingers getting prune-y. This is from someone who really likes silly gadgets too lol
I wouldn't recommend. If something needs to be hand washed it needs to be done delicately and that little machine looks like a very rough on clothing. Now I wish I had something like that when I was in my apartment and had to pay an arm and a leg to do laundry. I could have done all of the small things that I want to do more often and just save paying for laundry for when I was doing sheets and towels or jeans.
1:18 OMG Mia!!!! Mia made it here! I wish someday you guys could collaborate.. she is such a great person.. Mia Maples for the win!! She tests similar questionable products/websites along with soo much more..❤❤
It truly baffles me how you can make a whole 35 minute long video about something I literally couldn't care less about and have me sit through it with total interest and fascination 😂 I mean, you pulled out a whole fucking petri dish! You never fail to amaze me. Safiya you have such an amazing talent. Your detective skills are immaculate, your personality and weird quirks are unique and quite flattering on you, you spark interest in the most random things and you do it with fierce, determination and love. I cannot express how happy I am that you chose to share yourself with this world, you seem like an amazing human and soul Safiya. I truly am beyond proud of the woman you have become and grown to be after all these years lol I've watched you since Buzzfeed.
Saf takes consumerist content and turns it on its head - promoting financial literacy and critical thinking is so important in a culture which encourages you to buy now, think later! Oh...and does it all in a very satisfying way 😆
The fact that sofia and tyler have put in the effort to get an incubator for pétri dishes (ignore the accent i can't get my phone to stop correcting them in) (despite removing french from my keyboards it has kept far too many accented words) shows the investment they are willing to put into actually showing results rather than just leaving pétri dishes to just develop and risking contamination even though it would likely give more extreme results, at the basic guarantee of contamination from even them walking by
For me the thing about the "blue light" uv cleaning/disinfecting products is that I work in a high school lab-- we have a uv disinfecting chamber for the goggles the students use. It's not aesthetic. It's heavy duty metal with no windows and so so many warnings about not to look at the light inside once turned on because it could do permanent damage to your eyes. The goggles need to be left in the chamber for at minimum five minutes of continuous harsh uv light to be disinfected properly. So any time I see a "uv disinfecting" product with big windows or just out in the open flashlight style I immediately think oh well that's just a blue party light and even if it was actual uv with how quickly they just breeze the light over things, it isn't disinfecting anything.
I'm actually love the idea of the mini washing machine. When I was younger and didn't have the luxury of a washer/dryer in my apartment it would have been so helpful when I needed to quickly wash 1-2 items.
I used it in this exact scenario. My apartment has no washer or dryer and I was too broke to go to a laundry mat so I bought that thing for like $70 and it lasted for around 6 months before breaking
I'm disabled and cleaning is one of the big tasks I struggle with. I have a few cleaning gadgets (mainly my countertop dishwasher and knockoff roomba vacuum) and I'm always looking for ways to optimize my cleaning process so naturally I've gotten served these videos quite a bit. I always thought the purpose was advertising the products since they're so front-and-center, so the fact that the products were difficult to find is surprising to me. I guess they're more like those "organizing ASMR" videos than an advertisement.
@@livwake I say thats almost certainly the case. The products are probably all stuff Chinese viewers of the original videos can find at their local markets/tech stores.
@@chaos4654yeah that is indeed the case. My sister lives in China and since I was in high school in 2008 I would visit her and find her using all sorts of helpful gadgets (she was the first to buy me some vacuum storage bags and I didn’t find any of those in the Western market until at least 5 years later). She has two automatic bag-sealing bins, a collapsable foot bath, and many others… Her home was indeed very clean and tidy (well, less so now that my niece was born in 2022) it set the standard for me. I find myself looking at home gadgets in my spare time now that I have my own place but I’m jealous that 8 can’t buy so many of those gadgets easily in Australia!
Most of the videos are ads targeted towards china but some people just steal these videos from douyin and upload them on TikTok for views 😂 Most of the products they’re showing are quite affordable and can be easily bought if you’re in china
It’s also to sell things. It doesn’t apply to the western market though because of the lack of products and similar pricing. However, with Aliexpress and more prominently Temu, the western market is finally able to get some of these products. There are legit brand name storefronts on both but the reason why SHEIN works so well in the U.S. is the same reason why people assume Temu has bad quality even though Temu doesn’t manufacture anything. Americans (I’m saying this as an American) prefer buying the cheapest alternative. A lot of the stuff bought are stuff a Chinese person wouldn’t even look at due to poor quality. SHEIN would not be a big company within China. Chinese people are much more willing to spend money and waaaaaay more likely to complain so the cheapest quality/price model doesn’t work nearly as well in China.
A fun fact is at the movie theatre I used to work at, we used those spray blue-light cleaners to spray the seats after wiping them down :) We filled the bottle with sanitzer and it ended up corroding the nozzles :(
Yeah I assume all the lines and the nozzle are plastic because of how cheap the item is, so using for its intended purpose (serious disinfecting) will eventually destroy the item…
I actually really like that mini washing machine. I live in a studio apartment, and have to use the building's laundry room. Sometimes on the weekend, the only laundry I really need to do is socks and underwear, which isn't a full load, and a waste of money. I also love that it's collapsible.
I’ve got one, the Xiaomi Moyu and it works well. But if you buy one you have to be careful because there are loads of dupes, scam websites and prices can go crazy. I think I got mine for around $40. Also you might need an adaptator for the plug.
A small note since you mentioned it more than once, a control in an experiment is when a variable isn't being added to a test group. So your controls in your experiments would be the door handle with daily use germs, lettuce before any cleansing happened, etc. The household cleaners such as the Clorox, regular vegetable wash, and apartment washer are different test groups that can be used to compare methods.
Technically you can have two types of controls, negative and positive. In that case, the clorox is already assumed to work and provide for a « positive » control in which it is not a variable. It allows for a good idea of what a « clean « handle is supposed to look like after swabbing on petri dishes.
@@augustlyedits No that's not what @lilaspourmoi was saying. Positive controls are used to determine the effectiveness of your methodology. They're used to confirm the experiment is providing the information it's supposed to provide. A negative control is used to determine the effectiveness of changing a variable to eliminate the chance of results being a regularly occurring phenomenon. In this case, the negative control would be doing nothing and the positive control is using disinfectant
I love that you actually tested the disinfecting gun and produce cleaner!! I feel like a lot of other creators wouldn't have gone so far as to do agar plates and suit up to spray and test pesticides lmao. Good on you for actually doing some preliminary testing on these products! Just FYI though, the "controls" are not true controls. They're additional treatments! A true control is meant to reveal potential confounding variables that may affect your results. For example: with the agar plates, the Clorox wipe is a treatment. You're _doing_ something under the hypothesis that it will affect your results. A true control would be using a dry cotton swab with nothing on it and swiping that over the agar. The purpose of that is to see if the cotton swab itself has any effect on the agar. That way, you can be sure that any results you see from your door handle swabs are actually meaningful and aren't due to your methods/tools. Of course, these were just for fun tests and not for science, so it doesn't really matter, but I thought I'd clarify some terminology!
I worked at a body piercing parlor and that Bluetooth speaker cleaning thing always reminded me of the ultrasound cleaning machine that's supposed to remove any bio dirt from jewelry before sterilization.
But ultrasound is a legitimate way to clean things, while the electrolysis crap from this device makes no sense chemically. It claims to add OH- to the water, but you could just add baking soda to do that
We have something similar in dentistry (it’s an ultrasonic cleaner). We put our bloody and dirty instruments in it when it’s filled with a surfactant and water. It creates basically bubbles that “implode” to break up the solid waste on the instruments before they are rinsed and put in the sterilizer. They little Bluetooth speaker looking thing looks like it’s creating some misty nonsense
Looking at it and how it appeared when working, my first thought was that it was just a portable ultrasonic cleaner. The ultrasonic cleaners with the tubs would probably clean better (portable is limited in the area being affected around it), but it’s a real way to clean hard to remove debris off of stuff.
These products fared better than I expected. Thanks to your robust and reliable testing, we can get a better picture of their effectiveness. So many creators dunk on these products and call them gimmicks. So I figured that they were just that. But your testing proved otherwise! ❤❤
32:25 for the mini washing machine (aside from being useful in a small apartment as you mentioned) you have to know the cultural aspect too: according to my Chinese friends (I live in China) you are supposed to wash your underwear immediately after taking them out. In this scenario, this mini machine is quite handy for a family.😄
yo this is so weird, but I just finished my neuro undergrad on Friday and some stuff happened and I basically don't know where I'm going from here. Do you like being a PhD student? And did you do a graduate degree or skip to the PhD?
I’m so glad someone decided to test these because I’m obsessed with these videos for years and wanted to know if they actually worked. Thank you for doing the lords work and testing them! This is why you are still one of my all time fave RUclipsrs !!!
The smartest device I’ve seen is actually a vintage one. It’s basically a blender, mixer, smoothie maker all built into the bench. So you clip in the bowls or bottles that you need into the part on the bench. It’s soo cool
I always love how Saf doesn't just see if it works, but looks deeper with how it works and puts in effort with an actual experiment and accessible explanation. Great work, Saf!
Oh my gosh you guys went so hard and I'm so here for it. I was impressed by the petri dishes, then the swabbing technique, then the incubator, then the pesticide test strips, safety gear, and applying pesticides?! The semidehydration made me cackle and I laughed so much while it vibrated up a storm. Definitely going to rewatch this one a lot :)
I love how this channel doesn’t do the whole “upload everyday and see what sticks” method for YT. Instead it’s methodical, long form, in depth content that often pulls millions of views. props to safiya and this channel for putting in the work and spending the time
I've noticed that! It does seem like a useful search engine and pretty different than the Opera search engine I remember from High School (even though they are obviously the same, based on the logo). I had forgotten Opera even existed until 3 weeks ago but now lots of people I subscribe to have been sponsored by them. I haven't downloaded it but I probably will eventually. I just end to watch youtube on my phone, so I don't really remember when I get on my laptop.
I really wish Saf would do a perfume video where she goes smelling perfumes, finds one she likes, and goes to a shoppe you can create your own perfume and she can try to recreate her fav scents
Safiya's videos have such a grip on me I dont know how. I normally would not even remotely care about someone trying on the same dress some a bunch of sketchy websites, or melting a bunch of Halloween candy for the ultimate candy bar. But Safiya puts so much dedication and love to the craft I cant help but be enthralled by it
to be fair to hobot, generally I have to clean the windows in two passes too - one to clean it off and the other to get rid of any streaks. that said, I do think this dude would be the most handy for places where you can't really reach the outside of your window, and in that case, I would be paranoid about it falling lol
One of my favorite things about Safiya’s content in comparison to others is where I can replay older videos without seeing a huge drop in quality. I love her style of videos that are really consistent and yet she’s able to experiment without missing the quality. I’d prefer a smaller amount of uploads but of higher quality ❤
The sanitize spray was quite popular during the height of Covid-19, especially for those who were not working from home. A colleague used that thing to clean her office keyboard. The mini, collapsible washing machine is also pretty legit. It was apparently provided to mini apartment renters in Japan because normal-sized washers just don't fit into the closet-sized apartments. The capacity is very, very limited though.
I bought one to wash my bras and it's amazing. I keep it in my bathroom and once a week throw in the bras I used that week, do a wash cycle with a tiny amount of laundry soap, then a rinse cycle and then I hang them up. I don't use the "spin" cycle at all because it's pointless...but for "handwashing" bras it's wonderful and bras that I bought 6 months ago are still fitting like they did when they were brand new, no deterioration of the elastic or bending of the wires. Honestly...if I was going on a trip for longer than a week, I'd likely figure out how to bring it with me so I could wash socks, bras and underpants and shirts as needed.
I just want to say watching your videos really helps me when I feel super depressed. Your voice is just really cheerful and positive. Thank you for making awesome videos!
As someone who has been living in China since 2018, these vids are second nature to me 😂 almost all the vids are from douyin ads and you got up charged probably 10x
Girly I know all the lore and secrets of these Chinese douyin product videos. There's way more going on behind the scenes that people have no idea about. These luxury flats are not actually lived in by these people, product companies rent out spaces and share the cost of the flat with other companies.
I figured this was highly possible! It's so weird watching these videos and seeing, like, insanely rare hypebeast decor in them. With those little details, there is no way that these are made by a smaller creator. Someone is putting legitimate time and resources into the setting of these videos. I am curious to see if there is a website where it is guaranteed to find this kind of stuff and know it's legit and ethically produced though
It is the equivalent to those 5-minute craft videos, these videos are basically part of content-making machine, except there are actual odd products behind them instead of just farming views.
ik they briefly touch on it, but seeing ppl buy aliexpress items from overcharged storefronts always makes me wince. u can literally by all of these for probably 1/4 of the price lol
The glasses cleaner at 9:35 is actually a real thing and it works! I used to be an optical lab tech and we’d use them all the time to clean patients’s glasses. It works by vibrating them in soapy water to dislodge dirt and gunk. So the “smoke” you see is actually dirt, sweat, and oils that have accumulated on that person’s glasses 😭
the shot of "disinfecting my puppies" was so funny to me. one should not have dogs or animals in general if they think they need to be disinfected with uv lamps 😂
Having you two watch Hobert doing his thing felt like proud parents at their son's dance recital 😂😂 "Let me go get my phone!" "Hobert, my love!" "Look at hiiim!"
I can’t believe she is still using the intro video she randomly bought as part of a video. I love it 😂 I clicked on the video and started singing it. I was disappointed when the add started and not the intro.
i love how thorough safiya is when conducting research and experiments! it makes it easier for us consumers to vet products before we buy them, which reduces consumption and our carbon footprint
While I rarely use it, I am also on this side of TikTok, but I truly love, and thoroughly appreciate cleaning product testing videos! Thank you for what I know is going to be a great video, Safiya!
I always appreciate the level of research and testing that goes into these videos! Safiya and Tyler always do such a thorough job when looking into whatever they’re testing and it makes the videos that much better.

@@KawaiiRachii you can search on taobao in English and they deliver internationally
Yes, it seems it's just ads for cheep junk that maybe works, but then breaks after a few weeks.
That's exactly what I expected, its basically just dropshipper content
Do pdd and Taobao ship to the US? interested in buying something from there.
I hope they find more uses for it in future videos
exactly what i was thinking
Yes!! The other one that comes to mind is How To Cook That
No they wouldn't even say "buy at your own risk"
They'd have a link and an affiliate code and tell you it's a "must have"
The experiment was not performed correctly.
O sea si, pero no estuvo bien hecho el experimento por lo que el resultado es inválido. Igual se aprecia el esfuerzo

I’m so glad the captions on Safs videos are human-generated rather than auto, it makes the videos much more accessible!
Agreed! It's also way better for learning English, which I've found Safiya is one of the best RUclipsr to learn while having a lot of fun
I agree too! I’ve needed subtitles before and the AI getting it wrong ruined a lot of videos for me.
This may be a dumb question, but how do you know if it’s human written vs auto generated? I thought the caption when you turn on subtitles would say but it doesn’t
Human captions are better but I rely on auto generated to watch some foreign RUclips videos and I get about 50% of what they say.... Maybe lol
@@Lauren_Cat it usually says (auto-generated) when it is and I've noticed it gives it to you word by word instead of a paragraph that then changes
Now I'm off to find that window cleaner thing, cause I don't have a balcony and have neglected our 2nd floor windows for way too long!
a cheaper option to clean your window are those magnetic window cleaning sponges! Similar to aquarium glass cleaners
I’m so curious if that blue light is safe too

The mini washer would work great for those who use period underwear since it's so fast and could clean them quickly if you need to redo them without doing a whole load
Also college students! I had of these in my old dorm, because running a standard load was $2.50, and I’m a really clean person, so I often want to wash my clothes after anytime they are on my body. It not only saved my money, but also saved a lot of my fragile clothing, because it’s more gentle than the normal laundry cycle! I actually highly recommend the little laundry machine, although I got mine on Amazon:)
Yesss also i think it would be awesome when camping or travelling as well
i have one i got from Amazon too and i love it!! went from an apt with an en suite bathroom where i had a basin to put my reusable menstrual pads after rinsing them to soak to a house with a shared bathroom. i didn't want to leave my basin in the bathroom or laundry room out of respect for my housemates, and was always worried about knocking over the basin onto the carpet in my tiny room. the mini washer is perfect because i can carry it into my room and run a few cycles/let them soak safely there before washing.

@@anaa-kb1fs😂 totally was about to say that!

Fun fact, all of these items come from Taobao! It’s a Chinese retailer that’s pretty comparable to ebay or Amazon, but for the Chinese market. You can buy from there direct from outside of China but it’s rather tricky if you can’t read Chinese, so most people aiming to do that will go through a 3rd party shopping service like Superbuy who will get the items for you and ship internationally. the evolution from bad makeup science to actual science experiments with petri dishes and litmus tests 😭 safiya content will always be investigative yet entertaining (and chaotic) at its core
It was just bad makeup science to bad science in general, unfortunately. People see petri dishes and the placebo effect kicks in.
In defense of Hobot I think it's like a Roomba. It's not for cleaning something dirty; it's for maintaining something that's already cleaned.
Came to say this. IMO if I spilled a pot of dirt on my floor I wouldn’t immediately grab the roomba. I’d sweep first then roomba the tiny bits.

As a trucker sometimes I can't find a laundry shop to do laundry for some of my smaller clothes.
I bought one of those mini washing machines from Amazon and it works awesomely!
Probably was marked up over 10x on amazon tho... Cheap in china
i could see the mini washing machine being perfect for washing and drying swim suits when you road trip or go on vacation! as a kid whenever we would go swimming we would leave them in the shower and they’d take days to dry, so swimming the next day meant gingerly sliding a moist swimsuit back on. i could see this being a great idea for that!!
We used to dry them over the backyard fence... just make sure to check 'em for spiders 😂
but if it won't rinse isn't it just akin to soaking something in detergent in a bucket, rinse and air dry. like what does it add?!?!
I haven’t watched Safiya in a while but the fact that she kept her intro song from that one time she made a video is so great 😭
I work in research and do cell culture so things need to be sterile.
This is very important context. Appreciate you throwing your background in there.
@@amberbydreamsart5467also the "electrolysis" to make the water basic is kinda insane when you can add baking soda.
That's what the gentle cycle and a wash mesh bag is for.

They have been around before, like my grandma used to have one bit longer and made of metal. I think they were popular in the 80’s?
I used it in this exact scenario. My apartment has no washer or dryer and I was too broke to go to a laundry mat so I bought that thing for like $70 and it lasted for around 6 months before breaking
I got one for my parents for their RV. They love it
Why don't you just wash them by hand? You don't have the luxury of space, but are still too lazy to wash things by hand.
Same. I lived in a dorm with a sink in it. It could have saved me lots of quarters and trips to the basement laundry room.
One of my fave recent videos of yours!! So fun seeing you messing around with different gadgets. Gives me ‘we bought five things from wish’ energy!
Perhaps it’s more targeted towards the eastern market?
@@livwake
I say thats almost certainly the case.
A fun fact is at the movie theatre I used to work at, we used those spray blue-light cleaners to spray the seats after wiping them down :) We filled the bottle with sanitzer and it ended up corroding the nozzles :(
this sprayer is very common in Asia, we exclusively use it with alcohol and I've been using mine since I bought it in 2019😅
Yeah I assume all the lines and the nozzle are plastic because of how cheap the item is, so using for its intended purpose (serious disinfecting) will eventually destroy the item…

@@Lilaspourmoi I'm pretty sure you guys are just describing the different between a dependent and an independent variable.

Hobert getting that corner gave me DVD screensaver vibes.
I worked at a body piercing parlor and that Bluetooth speaker cleaning thing always reminded me of the ultrasound cleaning machine that's supposed to remove any bio dirt from jewelry before sterilization.
Probably the same idea behind it. Weird that they claim it is for veggie cleaning tho
In this scenario, this mini machine is quite handy for a family.😄
remembering how Safiya got that intro song still makes me happy inside ☺️
I’m a neuroscience PhD student and the full-on controlled experiments with bacterial cultures made my heart so happy 😂 amazing work!
yo this is so weird, but I just finished my neuro undergrad on Friday and some stuff happened and I basically don't know where I'm going from here. Do you like being a PhD student? And did you do a graduate degree or skip to the PhD?
@@isabellagrover4728 I really love it! And I did a masters first, but I’m doing my PhD in the UK and you kind of need the masters first here.
Honestly safiya be giving us actual science is awesome, still adore your videos and they are so worth the wait.
My MIL used to have that in her kitchen!
Sewrina here on RUclips has some great videos using an original one she had installed into her kitchen!
I always love how Saf doesn't just see if it works, but looks deeper with how it works and puts in effort with an actual experiment and accessible explanation. Great work, Saf!
I love the random Christmas music in the middle of a video from May 😂
Oh my gosh you guys went so hard and I'm so here for it. I was impressed by the petri dishes, then the swabbing technique, then the incubator, then the pesticide test strips, safety gear, and applying pesticides?! The semidehydration made me cackle and I laughed so much while it vibrated up a storm. Definitely going to rewatch this one a lot :)
I really love how Safiya answers questions I never thought to ask, but all the sudden really need the answer to
I love how you put Mia clips in your video and she put clips of you guys in her video both on the same day 😂
OMG, I JUST NOW REALIZED THAT
Literallllly this is insanely coincidental
Collab?
Almost like it was intentional.

I love how this channel doesn’t do the whole “upload everyday and see what sticks” method for YT. Instead it’s methodical, long form, in depth content that often pulls millions of views. props to safiya and this channel for putting in the work and spending the time
Opera is the new Audible or Squarespace their influencer marketing budget for this year lmao
we love opera!!
As someone who uses Opera, it's so good! I prefer it compared to other browsers I've used such as Chrome or Edge.
Or honey
I've noticed that! It does seem like a useful search engine and pretty different than the Opera search engine I remember from High School (even though they are obviously the same, based on the logo). I had forgotten Opera even existed until 3 weeks ago but now lots of people I subscribe to have been sponsored by them. I haven't downloaded it but I probably will eventually. I just end to watch youtube on my phone, so I don't really remember when I get on my laptop.
or nordvpn lol
That window bot is seriously a great product. Everyday a clean window? Yes please. Looks amazing. Worth the $
I really wish Saf would do a perfume video where she goes smelling perfumes, finds one she likes, and goes to a shoppe you can create your own perfume and she can try to recreate her fav scents
Shop*
as a perfume lover, yes!! that would be great
@@Leanne_w both spellings are legitimate lmao
I would love this!!!
or, a frankeinscent!!!
"Disinfect your crabs". 🤣🤣🤣🤣
By the time the Hobot finished one window, I could've finished 4.
Yeah but then you have to do the work.
Sure, but cleaning the outside of a high-rise building isn't easy.
I think with the expense of the windows robot, changing the pads etc I would just clean the window. 😂
Saf & Tyler trying things are some of my favorite videos
I love the idea of the mini washing machine in a mudroom or garden room to quickly wash up dirty socks or gloves!
This showed up in my feed 37 seconds ago so naturally I had to watch immediately
BTS info about content creation is so fascinating. Please spill the oolong tea. What else do you know? 😂
Wtf?! We need the tea!
That seemed likely to me just because the videos have this fake highly off-putting vibe. The stories in them are also obnoxious.
Opera seems like an adhders either worst enemy or best friend 😂😅
ik they briefly touch on it, but seeing ppl buy aliexpress items from overcharged storefronts always makes me wince. u can literally by all of these for probably 1/4 of the price lol
omg literally, the vegetable thing that was supposed to be around 100 dollars you can get on taobao for 20 bucks 🥲
My favourite part was the velociraptor bit. The spraying was so accurate 😂😂😂😂
I usually throw on a youtube video and work, just listening to it..but with Safiyas i sit down and watch completely. ❤
Off topic... but i genuinely love that Safiya still uses the new intro song, thats actually so wholesome 🥹
I hope the guy who did it earned more than 5$ on it
the shot of "disinfecting my puppies" was so funny to me. one should not have dogs or animals in general if they think they need to be disinfected with uv lamps 😂
Maybe it was trying to show it was safe to use on/around animals. At least I hope it is....
I love the fact that Safiya and Mia have referenced each other in their latest videos! Love them both! 💕
the amount of effort put into testing all of these is incredible😱😱😱 thank you for your thoroughness!!!!
I AM SIMPLE MAN I SEE SAF I CLICK!!! ❤
I was just about to say that lol
Man? You're losing that term very loosely....
@@drhannibelle Because it's a joke?
@@wynterphe0nix Wasn't talking to you, filth.

Having you two watch Hobert doing his thing felt like proud parents at their son's dance recital 😂😂
"Let me go get my phone!"
"Hobert, my love!"
"Look at hiiim!"
I can’t believe she is still using the intro video she randomly bought as part of a video. I love it 😂 I clicked on the video and started singing it. I was disappointed when the add started and not the intro.
Glad to see I’m not the only one absolutely obsessed with Chinese & Korean cleaning gadget montage videos
Ugh she's so endearing, I loooove her content and voice
Endearing is the perfect word to describe her ❤️
Is it almost 5am in the uk? Yes. Will i stay up just to watch a new safiya video? YES
Sleep is just a suggestion, right?
You should recreate those Tik Tok videos of 'I must use Smart Cleaning for Mother-in-Law' with the products you bought!
I’m just going to say it , she’s the queen of youtube with her attention to detail and experiments!
i love how thorough safiya is when conducting research and experiments! it makes it easier for us consumers to vet products before we buy them, which reduces consumption and our carbon footprint
