Since then, a boba shop has opened in my city, and they use the tea a lot. I love it in drinks with other stuff in it as well, but even just the plain tea was good!
It's true. I have a slytherin mug, an old decorative cloth bag from a pack of berttie bott's every flavor beans, a slytherin jock tshirt somewhere, and a variety pack of hogwarts house socks. I got the bag when I was still a kid, I'm glad I kept it, it makes a great dice bag. In general, harry potter asthetic is on point honestly. Just, you know. Steal it. jkr doesn't deserve royalties.
Well, to be fair to the hair curler, it's not so much of a knock off, rather they're all the exact same and companies can pay to put their logo on it. It's the same as those Laser Hair Removers like Lux skin, Hey Silkly Skin, and other brands. It's the same device, but companies can pay to customize it.
Alternatively: make a batch, chill it, mix half tea with half lemonade, a shot of gin and a shot of lemon juice. Serve with Ice and you have a wobberly unicorn! Enjoy :)
I wish Safiya would do something close to this again but specifically for small businesses ads. most of these are bigger company. especially with the pandemic small bussinesses need more love then ever. (Also more likely to find Bat themed items she would actually want to keep after)
the tea company has an incredibly smart marketing strategy. you get the tea because its so pretty and looks good, but the samples that come with it get you hooked on their probably better-tasting teas
Butterfly pea flowers are great for making simple syrup with and then you can use it in anything from magical lemonade instead of sugar to fancy mocktails to alcoholic beverages. Just add a citrus and it’ll change colours. You can also do it with purple cabbage if anyone wants a cheap duper stead of buying the leaves😉
I really do love that your intro for "the internet made me buy it" videos is still the song the internet made you buy. Got to be the single best purchase from the whole series 😆
I work at an ENT office and I am so horrified by the wax wand thing. That seems like an easy way to mess up your ears: by compacting your ear wax further or possibly bursting your ear drum.
My mom and I bought butterfly pea tea about four years ago and you can actually add lemonade and it has the same effect, it'd probably taste better that way. We also would put ice in it and have it cold which was actually really refreshing :) hope this helps and you can get some use out of all the tea you bought lol
Just as an FYI - I'm pretty sure that having hair in your ears is a good thing! It keeps out dirt, dust, and disease-causing bacteria. So having a lot of ear hair is good, Saf!
Also fun fact, there are hairs further inside your ears (in the eardrum specifically) that are the reason you can hear, and the reason people go deaf in most cases is because of losing those hairs.
@kris1126 yes you are correct! My ears were so itchy/irritated and dry inside and I went to my doctor and she said my ears were “too clean”. I realized it’s from having earbuds on too often. So I stopped wearing them/wear them minimally. And within a week, ears not itchy or irritated anymore.
As someone who's been watching Safiya since the Buzzfeed days, it's so weird to me that I ever saw her as intimidating 🤣 She's such a big dork I love it 🖤
@@jesscunn7632 I could see someone getting a more mature, teacher-y vibe from her speech patterns. Broad vocabulary, clear enunciation, measured pace, deeper voice. Checks out.
They did get the small mystery box. I'd guess that the sellers try to calibrate the value of the items to just above "I got ripped off" level, while diversifying the contents as much as possible (to up the odds that at least one thing will be something the buyer will like). Hence, no chance of a tablet in the little box, possible chance for the larger ones. ...you're not wrong, I just got to overthinking.
Not me just now realizing that she specifically uses this version of her intro song on her "shopping" videos after watching her for literal YEARS. I can now predict exactly which videos have her original intro and this one and I feel incredibly powerful.
For anyone interested in the butterfly pea, 30$USD for that pack of butterfly tea is expensive honestly. I get it at the local asian market for a fraction of that price in CAD. Im sure there are better places to get it online Also, Mix it with lemonade instead of straight lemon juice. It tastes a lot better 🥰
I got some from Amazon a few years ago from a (apparently) family owned business. I think it was a similar quantity but I paid about $13CAD. And yes to the lemonade! The bubble tea shops and some Asian restaurants in my city that sell similar drinks will call them galaxy lemonade or tea.
The butterfly pea flower was meant to be added to your tea, it doesn't do anything except make the color change. The flower itself isn't the tea. If you ever want a real tea, Adagio Tea has "Bella Luna Blue" which has the same flower but also tea; it's very delicious!
Fun Fact: the dried blue pea flowers is native to South East Asia. And in my country which is Malaysia, the flowers is used as a colouring for our delicacies!
Of all of those, the only product I would consider buying would be the tea. Harney & Sons is a very well-known brand (they sell it at Barnes & Noble amongst many other places) and butterfly pea tea has become popular in recent years. I've never had it as a straight-up tea, though I did have it in a cocktail and enjoyed it.
@@elbowsbuns1896 Tbh I think it's also best iced, it's a little overwhelming when it's scorching hot. It's good in cocktails like Aviations/Gin-based cocktails with citrus (side note, that's what Empress gin is, it's infused with butterfly pea flower).
I don’t like butterfly pea flower tea at all, but I do adore Harney & Sons in general. The teas are consistently high-quality. My favorites are Paris (flavored black) and Dragon Pearl Jasmine (scented green).
As someone who has been here for years, this is the first time I've heard Saf call Ty 'baby' (especially considering the circumstances that led to it😂😂) ( at 17:54) and it's the cutest thing ever!! I love you guys so much!
hot tea tip about butterfly pea tea, generally you mix in the flowers with other tea bases for better flavour. the flowers give a pretty colour and the other tea you use as a base provides a better flavour. plus adding honey always helps. butterfly pea tea isn't the tastiest but it is the prettiest. just need to work with it to properly enjoy it's full potential.
About the curling method: I think you just have to insert an upper part of your hair - then it will grab the lengths itself. So it‘s like whereever you choose to insert the tool is the highest part/ starting point of the curl.
Saf using _all_ those leaves, and then being surprised that a concentrated and dried flower had a pungent odor, had me rolling. the lemon water works for many different types of tea, and I'm glad Safiya explained the science behind everything. she's always so thorough when she films, and it's nice to see the effort!
For the Curling thingy, you have to actually feed it in sideways from as close to your scalp as you want your curls to start. It will pull the loose end of the strand in by itself. Saf was pulling it in from mid/bottom which is why it only curled that much.
I'm not sure if it's just a South East Asian thing, but we use Butterfly Pea flowers for naturally dying rice to make desserts and rice dishes blue! You can use it to decorate and colour fabrics too 😊 I do think that using the flower for drinks and consumption (in its actual flower form) has gained popularity in the past 2 years, cos of its pretty colour
My old school made butterfly pea tea with cream and my grandma makes butterfly pea rice! I’ve also eaten butterfly pea nas I lemak and the colour would sometimes seep into the egg which looks gross but was rad
I have had a Babyliss auto curler for a few years and it's actually pretty decent! I have a disability that affects my hands and it's the only curling thing I can use, haha
I have something similar and really like it too! Don't think it really worked for Saf as she was starting at the bottom of the strand rather than the top XD Also, you can change the direction of the curl (left and right) so it curls away from your face
I bought that Babyliss curler back in 2014ish and it stopped working 2015ish. It still spins but it doesn’t heat up. I liked it when it worked but that sucker was major $$$$ (like 200+ range if im remembering right)
I love watching safiya because she does ALL the things we all wish we could and want to do. But we get to watch with no regret if they don't work out 😅😂
My roommate is Thai and she's been making me butterfly pea flower tea since forever! She adds pandan leaf powder to the tea since it doesn't have much flavour on its own. She also drinks it chilled. If you squeeze the lemon on top, the reaction happens much more slowly, and you get this beautiful gradient!
These are BY FAR my fave videos. I’m always so tempted to buy this stuff and these videos either satisfy the craving without me spending my own money or show me that something I want is actually worth it so I don’t have buyers remorse.
With the butterfly pea tea, warm up some milk on the stove with the flowers steeping in it, then add vanilla extract/paste and a little bit of sugar or honey. It's my favourite winter hot drink!
Heya pro tip: if you want to get more use out of the tea its best to put a pinch of it in other teas to make them more fun especially since it makes the taste tasty ^.^. I enjoy adding it to a lavender chamomile and pretending like im drinking a sleep potion. Also as a bartender we use it to make those cool color changing cocktails.
The Harney&Sons tea was wild to me... David's Tea has had a blend called 'Magic Potion' for years now that does the same thing and is not just one kind of flower - it's supposed to be blue raspberry-esque. you might like that better in regards to taste, and still get the look. Less expensive too.
My local cafe has butterfly pea latte. It's a blue soothing drink. Butterfly pea is also considered a sacred plant, so I come and drink it when starting something new - a new university year or anything significant. ❤️
tea blender here! can confirm those are actual butterfly pea flowers, and are typically on the pricer side of ingredients put in tea blends. its typically supposednto be added to a tea (green or herbal usually) as how you metioned, it doesnt smell great. my work pairs it with a blueberry green tea and it turns the tea into bluegreen anime looking water. its kinda just "ooo cool color" and "ooo acidity science" with the lemon juice turning it pink. its also used alot in alcoholic mixed drinks when they dont want to use that one blue alcohol, but want a blue colored drink.
The wireless curler was a knock off of the Unbound Beauty in Motion wireless curler, which works really well. My daughters (ages 7 and 9) are even able to operate it easily without anyone getting burned because the barrel is covered. It's definitely a must try! 😊
@@roshs5619 My grandmother put my 4 year old hair in hot curlers with little regard for how hot they were or whether or not I wanted my hair curled for church or being a flower girl. If they want to do it and its not hurting them, its miles ahead of what I endured as a kid. It's all gonna grow out before they're adults anyways. Let em live a little (funky colors and crazy hairstyles are fun).
I don't think Safiya realizes how often she talks about Tyler's ears in videos. Because when the ear wax remover popped up, I went, "Oh. That's for Tyler."
After watching the tea one I started to think: I put turmeric in my tea, I could probably make it turn purple if I added baking soda... That probably wouldn't be a good idea though. (If you are wondering turmeric also reacts to bases and acids, but adding an acid just makes it turn brighter yellow, while a base turns it a soft purple. I know this because I once tried to get a turmeric stain out of clothing and the internet suggested lemon juice or baking soda, it did not work, but was a cool science experiment! RIP those shorts.)
I'm not much of a TikTok person but I also miss these "Internet Made Me Buy Things" series!!! Absolutely love it and cannot wait to see what TikTok recommends to you 🤩
It is actually good by itself. I personally really love the flavor. If you have ever takes a dried pea and nibbled it then that’s exactly what it tastes like. Mmmm. Though lately I am using all the herbal teas I own to make blends.
That auto-curler would be a great gift for anyone with arthritic hands. I love curling my hair but it’s gotten so painful I almost never do it. Here’s hoping it actually works!
I actually have the earwax thing, because I have a condition that makes me produce an excess earwax, and I need to get regular cleanings, so it’s easier to do it at home rather than go to the doctors. I actually really like it

The Pizza Hut part of this is like a throw-back to the "trying on crazy clothes" videos of years past, which were some of my favorites. I really like this format!
The butterfly pea flower tea is actually really really good, especially with a berry puree (mixed berries and lemon juice blended together). Sooooo good
The only times I've ever seen Pea Flower is in fancy cocktails where it's layered to gradually change, I never thought people would drink it on it's own.
I can’t believe they’re out here selling straight butterflies pea flowers as tea. And at that price…. Yes, it changes colors. Yes, it’s safe to consume. No, it’s not tea. Tea may just be “hot leaf water,” but some leaves are a lot more flavorful than others. Pea flowers are hardly flavorful
I think it's meant to be added to one of their tea blends to change the color. For example, they have a tea called "indigo punch" that includes these flowers to give it a purple color.
I used to sell this as a gimmick at a restaurant I worked at. It was the butterfly pea tea cooled down over ice and then we have a little glass of lemon juice and sugar syrup blended together, once dumped in it would change colors and it was basically making lemonade
"Hairy ear Saf." God Tyler REALLY loves her so much. Forget about "from her head to her toes", more like "from her will to melt everything into franken-somethings, to her ear hair."
I was literally drinking Harney & Sons blackberry tea when she started talking about it, and just kept looking back and forth. ARE YOU TARGETING ME SAFIYA?!
I'd recommend steeping a combo of butterfly pea flowers with another tea you like, since the flowers don't have a strong taste, but the color is very strong, so you don't need a lot to make it work. If you like roasted flavors, barley tea is good, floral teas like jasmine work well, and of course green tea is very compatible with the earthy flavor of the flowers. It's an easy way to make any drink more appealing really, you see it used to make smoothies a pretty purple color or in cakes.
and it’s not just that, she buys/tries them on camera and essentially gives them free promo. i wonder how many brands/services have seen an increase in sales or popularity bc of Saf lol
Don’t know if anyone has said it but the Polaroid box was actually photo paper sheets for the Polaroid Zip printer and you can make little Polaroid sized photos from your phone 🤗 it’s a really cool printer I’ve had mine a few years!
i'm glad the tea mentioned to use lemon juice, cause it actually tastes the best when mixed with lemonade! that's how the cafe i used to work at did it, and it was so pretty! and since the flavor isn't very strong you can use it as a natural dye!
as a tea fiend I had to comment on the pea flower tea. yes it doesn't taste good but you can mix it into other teas for the awesome color changing effect as well as flavor enhancement. also it doesn't have to be lemon juice, any citrus juice will activate the color
I love Harney and Sons tea!! I've never had Tiktok, but that would be the most perfect targeted add in the world 😂😂 I have lots of their tea and butterfly pea tea already, and the HP theme is perfectly on brand. I feel called out by their marketing department
There's a fancy gin in Canada called Empress gin which is made with those same flowers, so when you make a gin and tonic it turns from purple to pink. Stunning, and also very tasty.
You should do a video where you buy the first 5 items from a small Etsy shop/ small business that comes up on your fyp since their way of doing ads is making tik toks
Thank you so much for taking the time to make accurate closed captions! They make such a difference for so many people and it really shows that you guys care about your viewers
I drink Butterfly Pea Tea a lot and those flowers are just supposed to go into the tea mixture, usually you don't just drink the "tea" that comes from the flower themselves haha. Love ya Saf
Explanation for the confused: it's basically a mixer, can add to other teas so it taste good and still turns purple probably would also be good in alcohol like show a bunch of tipsy people magic colour changing drink would probably impress

For the Butterfly Pea Tea: make a batch, chill it, then mix with lavender syrup, lemon juice, and a little honey. Serve over ice. It's delicious :)
Omg, my stupid brain read your comment as "make a bath, chill in it". I just stopped to re-read at the "serve over ice" part. 😂
Alternatively: make a batch, chill it, mix half tea with half lemonade, a shot of gin and a shot of lemon juice. Serve with Ice and you have a wobberly unicorn! Enjoy :)

Also if you have dried galangal you can put that in and steep it with the tea. Then just add lemon juice. It’s so good.

the tea company has an incredibly smart marketing strategy. you get the tea because its so pretty and looks good, but the samples that come with it get you hooked on their probably better-tasting teas

Just as an FYI - I'm pretty sure that having hair in your ears is a good thing! It keeps out dirt, dust, and disease-causing bacteria. So having a lot of ear hair is good, Saf!
Yup! Nothing to feel weird about:)
Wax too! It’s to protect your ear by filtering dirt.
Also fun fact, there are hairs further inside your ears (in the eardrum specifically) that are the reason you can hear, and the reason people go deaf in most cases is because of losing those hairs.
@@thatsanriosoftboy damn that’s crazy
@kris1126 yes you are correct! My ears were so itchy/irritated and dry inside and I went to my doctor and she said my ears were “too clean”. I realized it’s from having earbuds on too often. So I stopped wearing them/wear them minimally. And within a week, ears not itchy or irritated anymore.

For anyone interested in the butterfly pea, 30$USD for that pack of butterfly tea is expensive honestly. I get it at the local asian market for a fraction of that price in CAD. Im sure there are better places to get it online

I got some from Amazon a few years ago from a (apparently) family owned business. I think it was a similar quantity but I paid about $13CAD.

Of all of those, the only product I would consider buying would be the tea. Harney & Sons is a very well-known brand (they sell it at Barnes & Noble amongst many other places) and butterfly pea tea has become popular in recent years. hot tea tip about butterfly pea tea, generally you mix in the flowers with other tea bases for better flavour.
the flowers give a pretty colour and the other tea you use as a base provides a better flavour.
plus adding honey always helps.
butterfly pea tea isn't the tastiest but it is the prettiest. just need to work with it to properly enjoy it's full potential.

I do think that using the flower for drinks and consumption (in its actual flower form) has gained popularity in the past 2 years, cos of its pretty colour
There's an Asian restaurant in my area that does this!
I was about to comment something similar! It's very popular in Taiwan and I wasn't aware of the name until I translated into Mandarin lol
